Abstract
Biomolecule isolation is a crucial process in diverse biomedical and biochemical applications, including diagnostics, therapeutics, research, and manufacturing. Recently, MXenes, a novel class of two-dimensional nanomaterials, have emerged as promising adsorbents for this purpose due to their unique physicochemical properties. These biocompatible and antibacterial nanomaterials feature a high aspect ratio, excellent conductivity, and versatile surface chemistry. This timely review explores the potential of MXenes for isolating a wide range of biomolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, and small molecules, while highlighting key future research trends and innovative applications poised to transform the field. This review provides an in-depth discussion of various synthesis methods and functionalization techniques that enhance the specificity and efficiency of MXenes in biomolecule isolation. In addition, the mechanisms by which MXenes interact with biomolecules are elucidated, offering insights into their selective adsorption and customized separation capabilities. This review also addresses recent advancements, identifies existing challenges, and examines emerging trends that may drive the next wave of innovation in this rapidly evolving area.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The secretion and direct capture of proteins from the extracellular medium is a promising approach for purification, thus enabling integrated bioprocesses. MAJOR RESULTS We demonstrate the secretion of a nanobody (VHH) to the extracellular medium (EM) and its direct capture by bare, non-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). An ompA signal peptide for periplasmic localization, a polyglutamate-tag (E8 ) for selective MNP binding, and a factor Xa protease cleavage site were fused N-terminally to the nanobody. The extracellular production of the E8 -VHH (36 mg L-1 ) was enabled using a growth-decoupled Escherichia coli-based expression system. The direct binding of E8 -VHH to the bare magnetic nanoparticles was possible and could be drastically improved up to a yield of 88% by adding polyethylene glycol (PEG). The selectivity of the polyglutamate-tag enabled a selective elution of the E8 -VHH from the bare MNPs while raising the concentration factor (5x) and purification factor (4x) significantly. CONCLUSION Our studies clearly show that the unique combination of a growth-decoupled E. coli secretion system, the polyglutamate affinity tag, non-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles, and affinity magnetic precipitation is an innovative and novel way to capture and concentrate nanobodies. Highly efficient porous magnetic polydopamine/copper phosphate with three-dimensional hierarchical nanoflower morphology as a selective platform for recombinant proteins separation. Abstract
The separation and purification of recombinant pharmaceutical proteins is a fundamental and challenging step in the biotechnology industry. Hierarchical nanostructures with unique features and high stability can be used as efficient adsorbents. In this study, hierarchical magnetic polydopamine-copper phosphate nanoflowers (Cu-PDA MNFs) were synthesized as high-performance magnetic adsorbents in a simple and low-cost method based on green chemistry. The prepared hybrid Cu-PDA MNFs revealed great performance for separating pure recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) and the rhGH acquired from recombinant Pichia pastoris yeast fermentation. The analysis confirmed that Cu-PDA MNFs exhibited a high adsorption capacity of 257.4 mg rhGH g-1 Cu-PDA MNFs and a fast adsorption rate for approaching the adsorption equilibrium within less than 30 min with a recovery efficiency of 74% of rhGH from the real sample. In addition, recycling tests demonstrated the stability and recyclability of Cu-PDA MNFs for at least six cycles with almost constant adsorption capacity and no toxicity. Based on these results, Cu-PDA MNFs could be considered as a promising candidate for separation and purification of rhGH. This work presents a new approach to using organic-inorganic nanoflowers as the hierarchical nanostructure for purification of pharmaceutical proteins with high performance.

Abstract
Recently protein has gained eminence due to awareness and demand for healthy food. Potato proteins are extracted from potato fruit juice and industrial potato waste; its nutritional and functional values have been found more significant than other vegetables and cereal proteins. Potato proteins can be easily extracted by various separation techniques, including an ion exchange (IEX) and expanded bed adsorption (EBA), and their functional properties can be modified for desire purposes. It contains many essential amino acids necessary for the human body, with an amino acid score (AAS) of 65%. Recent research on potato proteins resulted in several descriptions of new technologies to produce food-grade potato protein. It has recently drawn more attention as a protein source for human consumption, especially as an allergy free protein source and selective activity against cancer cells. Growing shreds of evidence have highlighted that potato protein can be used in many upcoming nutraceuticals and allergy-free food products. Therefore it is gaining more attention from nutritionists and food scientists. This review has summarized the recent knowledge on the nutritional and functional aspects of potato proteins, especially its non-allergic properties, enhancement in functional properties, and possible future-based products.
