Osteochondromata of tendon - sheaths. A case arising from the flexor sheath of the index finger

[Tenosynovial osteochondromatosis of the hand. A case report]

A 14 year old boy presented with swelling of the middle finger. X-rays showed calcifications of the palmar surface of the head of the third metacarpal and over the first and second phalanges. The natural course was followed over a period of two years with a diagnosis of calcifying peritendonitis. Due to the increased volume of the calcification deforming the proximal phalanx, the masses were resected revealing a diagnosis of chondroma. The discovery of free foreign bodies in the synovial sheath of the flexors and histological examination established the diagnosis of tenosynovial osteochondromatosis, which is rarely located in the hand. No recurrence has been observed after 8 years of follow-up.

Extraarticular chondromatosis of the hand. A case report

We present an uncommon case of large nonarticular chondromatosis of the hand. Some of the foci were found to cause compression of the median nerve, the ulnar artery, and also triggering of the third finger. The fourth lumbrical muscle was involved as well. A thorough, but not complete, excision with preservation of the median nerve and ulnar artery was performed. No recurrence was found during 5 years of follow-up.

Tenosynovial osteochondromatosis of the extensor tendon of a digit: case report and review of the literature

Extra-articular tenosynovial osteochondromatosis in the hand rarely occurs. A case of tenosynovial osteochondromatosis of the extensor tendon of the digit is reported. None of the cases reported in the literature have involved the extensor aspect of the digits. A possible explanation for the paucity of this lesion in relation to the extensor tendons of the digits is the absence of a tendon sheath on the dorsum of the digits.
