Abstract
Copper-based compounds have attracted increasing attention as electrode materials for rechargeable devices, but their poor conductivity and insufficient stability inhibit their further development. Herein, an effective method has been proposed to improve the electrochemical properties of the copper-based electrodes by coating carbon materials and generating unique micro/nanostructures. The prepared Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC with hierarchical hollow structure possesses excellent electrochemical performance, attributing to the composition and structure optimization. The superior charge storage performance has been assessed by theoretical and experimental research. Specifically, the Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC exhibits remarkably higher electrical conductivity and lower adsorption-free energy for O* and OH* than those of Cu2O. Moreover, the Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC delivers a high specific capacitance of 1261.3 F·g-1 at the current density of 1 A·g-1 and also has great rate performance at higher current densities, which are much better than those of the Cu2O nanocubes. In addition, the assembled hybrid supercapacitor using Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC as the anode exhibits great energy density, power density, and cycling stability. This study has proposed a novel and feasible method for the synthesis of high-performance copper-based electrodes and their electrochemical performance regulation, which is of great significance for the advancement of high-quality electrode materials and rechargeable devices.

Abstract
Preparing high-performance electrode materials from metal-organic framework precursors is currently a hot research topic in the field of energy storage materials. Improving the conductivity of such electrode materials and further increasing their specific capacitance are key issues that must be addressed. In this work, we prepared phosphoric acid-functionalized UiO-66 material as a precursor for carbonization, and after carbonization, it was combined with activated carbon to obtain nitrogen-/phosphorus-codoped carbonized UiO-66 composite material (N/P-C-UiO-66@AC). This material exhibits excellent conductivity. In addition, the carbonized product ZrO2 and the nitrogen-/phosphorus-codoped structure evidently improve the pseudocapacitance of the material. Electrochemical test results show that the material has a good electrochemical performance. The specific capacitance of the supercapacitor made from this material at 1.0 A/g is 140 F/g. After 5000 charge-discharge cycles at 10 A/g, its specific capacitance still remains at 88.5%, indicating that the composite material has good cycling stability. The symmetric supercapacitor assembled with this electrode material also has a high energy density of 11.0 W h/kg and a power density of 600 W/kg.

Abstract
In the modern civilized world, energy scarcity and associated environmental pollution are the center of focus in the search for reliable energy storage and harvesting devices. The need to develop cheaper and more competent binder-free electrodes for high-performance supercapacitors has attracted considerable research attention. In this study, two different procedures are followed to enhance the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNT-E and CNT-NF) directly coated on a Ni-foam substrate by a well-functioning chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. Thus, directly grown optimized CNT electrodes are used as electrodes for electrochemical devices. Furthermore, solid-state symmetric supercapacitors are fabricated using CNT-NF//CNT-NF, and fruitful results are obtained with maximum specific capacitance (250.51 F/g), energy density (68.19 Wh/kg), and power density (2799.77 W/kg) at 1 A/g current density. The device exhibited good cyclic stability, with 92.42% capacitive retention and 99.68% Coulombic efficiency at 10 000 cycles, indicating the suitability of the electrodes for practical applications. This study emphasizes the importance of studying the direct growth of binder-free CNT electrodes to understand the actual behavior of electrodes and the proper storage mechanism.

Abstract
Although graphene has exceptional properties, they are not enough to solve the extensive list of pressing world problems. The substitutional doping of graphene using heteroatoms is one of the preferred methods to adjust the physicochemical properties of graphene. Much effort has been made to dope graphene using a single dopant. However, in recent years, substantial efforts have been made to dope graphene using two or more dopants. This review summarizes all the hard work done to synthesize, characterize, and develop new technologies using codoped, tridoped, and quaternary doped graphene. First, I discuss a simple question that has a complicated answer: When can an atom be considered a dopant? Then, I briefly discuss the single atom doped graphene as a starting point for this review's primary objective: codoped or dual-doped graphene. I extend the discussion to include tridoped and quaternary doped graphene. I review most of the systems that have been synthesized or studied theoretically and the areas in which they have been used to develop new technologies. Finally, I discuss the challenges and prospects that will shape the future of this fascinating field. It will be shown that most of the graphene systems that have been reported involve the use of nitrogen, and much effort is needed to develop codoped graphene systems that do not rely on the stabilizing effects of nitrogen. I expect that this review will contribute to introducing more researchers to this fascinating field and enlarge the list of codoped graphene systems that have been synthesized.

Abstract
Biomass-derived activated carbon is a widely used electrode material for supercapacitors. One of the keys to preparing high-performance activated carbon is the selection of appropriate precursors. Daylily is a common edible herb and is widely planted in Asia. It is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, so it can be used as a precursor of heteroatom-doped activated carbon. Herein, a daylily-derived porous carbon with a large specific surface area and high content of heteroatoms has been successfully prepared by a simple carbonization method. The as-prepared carbon materials showed a remarkable specific capacitance of 299.1 F/g at 0.5 A/g and excellent cycling stability of 99.6% after 4000 cycles at a current density of 1 A/g. Moreover, the assembled symmetric supercapacitor showed a high energy density of 21.6 Wh/kg at a power density of 598.2 W/kg in 6 M KOH electrolyte. These results demonstrate that the daylily-derived porous carbon is an excellent material for high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract
Herein, a facile ratiometric electrochemical method was developed for sensitive sensing of riboflavin (RF) based on hierarchical porous biochar (HPB) modified electrode. In this sensing system, the reference paracetamol (PA) was directly added into electrolyte solution without the requirement of complex immobilization process. HPB derived from KOH-activated Soulangeana sepals displays hierarchical porous structure, high specific surface area and rich oxygen-containing functional groups, which is favorable for RF adsorption and enrichment. Besides, the excellent electronic conductivity and superior electrocatalytic activity of HPB can effectively promote the electrooxidation of RF. Moreover, the dual-signal strategy greatly improves the reproducibility and reliability of electrochemical detection. Based on the proposed ratiometric sensing platform, the sensor exhibits a wider linear range of 0.0007-10μM and a lower limit of detection of 0.2 nM. The method also presents good selectivity and has been applied to the determination of RF in milk samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract
The development of supercapacitors with a high energy density and power density is of great importance for the promotion of energy storage technology. In this study, we designed and prepared petal-like CoMoO4 clusters combined with carbon cloth as an excellent self-standing and binder-free electrode for asymmetric supercapacitors. Due to the abundant electrochemical active sites, the promising electron conduction, and ion diffusion rate, the CoMoO4@carbon cloth (CoMoO4@CC) electrode exhibits an excellent electrochemical performance. The results show that the CoMoO4@CC material exhibits a high specific capacitance (664 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g) and an excellent cycle stability (capacitance remains at 84.0% after 1000 cycles). The assembled symmetrical supercapacitor has an energy density of 27 Wh/kg when the power density is 600 W/kg. Even at a higher power density (6022 W/kg), it still maintains a good energy density (18.4 Wh/kg).

Abstract
Carbonaceous materials are promising electrode materials for enzymatic biofuel cells (EBFCs) due to their excellent electrical conductivity, chemical and physical stability and biocompatibility. Design and preparation of carbon materials with a hollow structure and a rough surface are of great significance for immobilization of enzymes both inside and outside the carbon materials for EBFC applications. We report herein the synthesis of novel carbonaceous materials consisting of bamboo-shaped hollow N-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) and C3N4 nanosheets (denoted as N-CNTs@C3N4) as electrode materials for dual-capture of enzymes in glucose/O2 EBFCs. The combination of one-dimensional N-CNTs with an open structure and two-dimensional C3N4 nanosheets forms a three-dimensional crosslinking network that significantly enhances the immobilization of enzymes, electrode stability, and mass transfer of substrates, thus boosting the EBFC performance. As a result, EBFCs equipped with N-CNTs@C3N4 can generate a high open circuit potential of 0.93 V and output a maximum power density of 0.57 mW cm-2 at 0.47 V. Additionally, the as-fabricated glucose/O2 EBFCs are capable of directly harvesting energy from various soft drinks, which indicates the promising applications of the N-CNTs@C3N4 nanocomposite as an electrode material for EBFCs.

Abstract
A three-dimensionally interconnected molybdenum trioxide (MoO3)/polypyrrole (PPy)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite was synthesized via an eco-friendly three-step method. The as-obtained electrode shows a high specific capacity of 412.3 F g-1 at a current density of 0.5 A g-1 and a good cycling stability (85.1% of the initial specific capacitance after 6000 cycles at 2 A g-1 is retained), and these excellent electrochemical performances can be attributed to the unique structure, remarkable electrical conductivity, and the synergetic effects between MoO3, PPy, and rGO. Furthermore, a symmetric supercapacitor based on a MoO3/PPy/rGO electrode was assembled to investigate the practical application performance of this material. The results demonstrate a high energy density of 19.8 W h kg-1 at a power density of 301 W kg-1. These findings shine a light on the rational design of electrode materials with multicomponents for high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract
Tellurium-doped mesoporous carbon composite materials (Te/NMC) have been prepared by a facile intercalation method in the presence of nitrogen-doped mesoporous carbon (NMC) with tellurium powder, for the first time. The effects of the co-doped N and Te in the mesoporous carbon matrix on the physical/chemical properties and capacitance performances were investigated via the use of various characterization methods and electrochemical studies. The as-prepared NMC and Te/NMC materials were found to mainly be composed of mesopores and maintained the 3D hierarchical graphite-like structure with lots of defect sites. By intercalation of Te atoms into the NMC materials, 2.12 at% (atom%) of Te was doped into NMC and the specific surface area of Te/NMC (261.07 m2 g-1) decreased by about 1.5 times compared to that of NMC (437.96 m2 g-1). In electrochemical measurements as a supercapacitor (SC) electrode, the Te/NMC based electrode, even with its lower porosity parameters, exhibited a higher capacitive performance compared to the NMC-based electrode. These results for Te/NMC arise due to the pseudo-capacitive effect of doped Te and the increase in the capacitive area available from the formation of interconnections in the mesoporous carbons through Te-O bonds. As a result, the synergetic effect of the Te and N atoms enables Te/NMC to exhibit the highest specific capacitance of 197 F g-1 at a current density of 0.5 A g-1. Moreover, remarkable long-term cycling stability with the retention of more than 95% of the initial capacitance is observed for Te/NMC at a current density of 5 A g-1 and also for 1000 charge-discharge cycles.

Abstract
In the present study, SWCNH-COOH and SWCNH-TETA were fabricated using single-walled carbon nanohorns (SWCNHs) via carboxylation and grafting with triethylenetetramine (TETA) for uranium (VI) ion [U(VI)] removal. The morpho-structural characterization of as-prepared adsorbing materials was performed by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Several parameters including the pH value of the aqueous solutions, contact time, temperature, and U(VI) concentration were used to evaluate the sorption efficiency of SWCNH-COOH and SWCNH-TETA. The Langmuir isotherm model could well represent the as-obtained adsorption isotherms, and the kinetics was successfully modeled by pseudo-second-order kinetics in the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of SWCNH-TETA was calculated as 333.13 mg/g considering the Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic studies showed that adsorption proved to be a spontaneous endothermic process. Moreover, SWCNH-TETA exhibited excellent recycling performance and selective adsorption of uranium. Furthermore, the possible mechanism was investigated by XPS and density functional theory calculations, indicating that the excellent adsorption was attributed to the cooperation capability between uranium ions and nitrogen atoms in SWCNH-TETA. This efficient approach can provide a strategy for developing high-performance adsorbents for U(VI) removal from wastewater.
