Abstract
We report the triply selective and sequential diversification of a single Csp 3 carbon carrying Cl, Bpin and GeEt3 for the modular and programmable construction of sp3-rich molecules. Various functionalizations of Csp 3-Cl and Csp 3-BPin (e.g. alkylation, arylation, homologation, amination, hydroxylation) were tolerated by the Csp 3-GeEt3 group. Moreover, the methodological repertoire of alkyl germane functionalization was significantly expanded beyond the hitherto known Giese addition and arylation to alkynylation, alkenylation, cyanation, halogenation, azidation, C-S bond formation as well as the first demonstration of stereo-selective functionalization of a Csp 3-[Ge] bond.

Abstract
Density functional theory calculations have been performed to investigate the mechanism for the BINOL-catalyzed asymmetric homologation of alkenylboronic acids with CF3-diazomethane. The reaction proceeds via a chiral BINOL ester of the alkenylboronic acid substrate. The calculations reveal a complex scenario for the formation of the chiral BINOL-alkenylboronate species, which is the key intermediate in the catalytic process. The aliphatic alcohol additive plays an important role in the reaction. This study provides a rationalization of the stereoinduction step of the reaction, and the enantioselectivity is mainly attributed to the steric repulsion between the CF3 group of the diazomethane reagent and the γ-substituent of the BINOL catalyst. The complex potential energy surface obtained by the calculations is analyzed by means of microkinetic simulations.

Abstract
The wide applications of alpha-boryl carbanions in selective coupling with organohalides, imines/carbonyls and conjugated unsaturated substrates has become an interesting tool for organic synthesis. Strategically, the inclusion of heteroatoms, such as Si, S, N, F, Cl, Br and I in the alpha position opens a new venue towards multifunctionalities in molecular design. Here, a conceptual and practical view on powerful carbanions, containing α-silicoboron, α-thioboron, α-haloboron and α-aminoboron is given, as well as a prespective on their efficient application for selective electrophilic trapping.

Abstract
The highly stereoselective synthesis of a series of tetrasubstituted mono- as well as disilylated vinylboronates is reported by using the boron-Wittig approach. The condensation between acylsilanes and gem-diborylalkanes gave the desired tetrasubstituted olefins in good to excellent yield and high stereoselectivity. Also, a series of trisubstituted silylated vinyl MIDA-boronates was synthesized by using the boron-Wittig reaction followed by a transesterification reaction. This methodology allows direct incorporation of B(pin) and TMS groups in the anti-position of the olefin in a highly stereoselective manner. Further, sequential Suzuki coupling reaction with the silylated vinyl boronic esters generated all-carbon tetrasubstituted alkenes, which have been applied in the total synthesis of the anticancer drug Tamoxifen and aggregation-induced luminogen agent TPE-TF17.

Abstract
The stereoselective formation of tetrasubstituted alkenes remains one of the key goals of modern organic synthesis. In addition to other methods, the stereoselective synthesis of tetrasubstituted alkenes can be achieved by means of cross-coupling reactions of electrophilic and nucleophilic alkene templates. The use of electrophilic templates for the stereoselective synthesis of tetrasubstituted alkenes has previously been described. Therefore, the present review summarizes the procedures available for the stereoselective preparation of tetrasubstituted alkenes using stable and isolable nucleophilic templates.

Abstract
Stereoselective preparation of highly substituted olefins is still a severe challenge that requires well defined elimination precursors. Organoboron chemistry is particularly suited for the preparation of molecules with adjacent stereocenters. As organo boron substrates with leaving groups in β‐position can undergo stereospecific syn‐ or anti‐elimination, this chemistry harbors great potential for the synthesis of complex olefins. In recent years three main strategies emerged, which differ in their approach to the β‐functionalized organoboron elimination precursor. (i) Stereoselective preparation of such elimination precursor can be achieved by addition of a boron‐stabilized anion (d1) to an aldehyde or ketone (a1) or diastereoselective 1,3‐rearrangement of suitable boron‐ate‐complexes. Stereospecific methods rely either on (ii) diastereospecific 1,2‐metalate rearrangement of boron‐ate‐complexes that involve opening of appropriate heterocycles or (iii) addition of chiral carbenoids (d1*) to chiral boronates (a1*) with a leaving group in α‐position.

Abstract
The first α-boryl diazo compound that is capable of engaging in classic synthetic organic diazo reaction chemistry is described. The diazomethyl-1,2-azaborine 1, which is a BN isostere of phenyldiazomethane, is significantly more stable than phenyldiazomethane; its reaction chemistry ranges from C-H activation, O-H activation, [3+2] cycloaddition, and halogenation, to Ru-catalyzed carbonyl olefination. The demonstrated broad range of reactivity of diazomethyl-1,2-azaborine 1 makes it an exceptionally versatile synthetic building block for the 1,2-azaborine heterocyclic motif.

Abstract
Recent years have witnessed an increase in the popularity of α-boryl organometallic reagents as versatile nucleophiles in asymmetric synthesis. These compounds have been adopted in chemo- and stereoselective coupling reactions with a number of different electrophiles. The resulting enantioenriched boronic esters can be applied in stereospecific carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bond construction reactions, enabling a two-step strategy for the construction of complex structures with high efficiency and functional group compatibility. Due to these reasons, tremendous effort has been devoted to the preparation of enantiomerically enriched α-boryl organometallic reagents and to the development of stereoselective reactions of related racemic or prochiral materials. In this review, we describe the enantio- or diastereoselective reactions that involve α-boryl organometallic reagents as starting materials or products and we showcase their synthetic utility.

Abstract
A stepwise build-up of multi-substituted Csp3 carbon centers is an attractive, conceptually simple, but often synthetically challenging type of disconnection. To this end, this report describes how gem-α,α-dimetalloid-substituted benzylic reagents bearing boron/silicon or boron/tin substituent sets are an excellent stepping stone towards diverse substitution patterns. These gem-dimetalloids were readily accessed, either by known carbenoid insertion into C-B bonds or by the newly developed scalable deprotonation/metallation approach. Highly chemoselective transformations of either the C-Si (or C-Sn) or the C-B bonds in the newly formed gem-Csp3 centers have been achieved through a set of approaches, with a particular focus on exploiting the synthetically versatile polarity reversal in organometalloids by λ3-aryliodanes. Of particular note is the metal-free arylation of the C-Si (or C-Sn) bonds in such gem-dimetalloids via the iodane-guided C-H coupling approach. DFT calculations show that this transfer of the (α-Bpin)benzyl group proceeds via unusual [5,5]-sigmatropic rearrangement and is driven by the high-energy iodine(iii) center. As a complementary tool, the gem-dimetalloid C-B bond is shown to undergo a potent and chemoselective Suzuki-Miyaura arylation with diverse Ar-Cl, thanks to the development of the reactive gem-α,α-silyl/BF3K building blocks.

Abstract
We describe the preparation of densely functionalised 1,1-silylborylated trisubstituted alkenes, via a boron-Wittig reaction, between LiC(Bpin)2(SiMe3) and aliphatic or aromatic aldehydes. The condensation of diborylsilylmethide lithium salts with α,β-unsaturated aldehydes provides a direct pathway to synthesize 1,1-silylborylated conjugated dienes and diynes.

Abstract
An intramolecular 1,2‐boryl‐anion migration from boron to carbon has been achieved by selective activation of the π system in [(vinyl)B2Pin2)]− using “soft” BR3 electrophiles (BR3=BPh3 or 9‐aryl‐BBN). The soft character is key to ensure 1,2‐migration proceeds instead of oxygen coordination/B−O activation. The BR3‐induced 1,2‐boryl‐anion migration represents a triple borylation of a vinyl Grignard reagent using only B2Pin2 and BR3 and forms differentially protected 1,1,2‐triborylated alkanes. Notably, by increasing the steric bulk at the β position of the vinyl Grignard reagent used to activate B2Pin2, 1,2‐boryl‐anion migration can be suppressed in favor of intermolecular {BPin}− transfer to BPh3, thus enabling simple access to unsymmetrical sp2−sp3 diboranes.

Abstract
A highly stereocontrolled synthesis of tetrasubstituted acyclic all-carbon olefins has been developed via a stereoselective enolization and tosylate formation, followed by a palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of the tosylates and pinacol boronic esters in the presence of a Pd(OAc)2/RuPhos catalytic system. Both the enol tosylation and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions tolerate an array of electronically and sterically diverse substituents and generate high yield and stereoselectivity of the olefin products. Judicious choice of substrate and coupling partner provides access to either the E- or Z-olefin with excellent yield and stereochemical fidelity. Olefin isomerization was observed during the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling. However, under the optimized cross-coupling reaction conditions, the isomerization was suppressed to <5% in most cases. Mechanistic probes indicate that the olefin isomerization occurs via an intermediate, possibly a zwitterionic palladium carbenoid species.

Abstract
By means of computational and experimental mechanistic studies the fundamental role of boroxines in the reaction between diazo compounds and boronic acids was elucidated.
By means of computational and experimental mechanistic studies the fundamental role of boroxines in the reaction between diazo compounds and boronic acids was elucidated. Consequently, a selective metal-free carbon–carbon homologation of aryl and vinyl boroxines using TMSCHN2, giving access to TMS-pinacol boronic ester products, was developed.
