Abstract
Three imines have been prepared by condensation of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde and 4-haloanilines (halo = Cl, Br, and I) with functionalities that enabled them to act as both halogen and pnictogen bond donors; however, both interactions were found to be absent in the solid state. The prepared imines were further cocrystallized with 1,3-diiodotetrafluorobenzene and 1,3,5-triiodotetrafluorobenzene as halogen bond donors. Six novel cocrystals were prepared by means of liquid-assisted mechanochemical synthesis and by crystallization from solution. All six cocrystals were of 1:1 stoichiometry and comprised a N···I halogen bond between an iodine atom of the perhalogenated halogen bond donor and the imino nitrogen atom of the imine acting as an acceptor. Additionally, in all six cocrystals, the imine molecules were interconnected by NO2···NO2 pnictogen bonding interactions. Computational analysis has shown that the NO2···NO2 exhibits bond critical point electron densities in the region (4.897-8.306) × 10-3 e Å-3 and interaction energies of 23.6-27.7 kJ mol-1, whereas the N···I halogen bonds generally have higher critical point electron densities ((1.795-1.937) × 10-2 e Å-3), but the corresponding total interaction energies are lower (19.4-20.4 kJ mol-1). Statistical analysis of the appearance of NO2···NO2 contacts concomitantly with halogen or hydrogen bonds seems to indicate that there is a positive correlation between the presence of NO2···NO2 pnictogen bonding interactions and other directional interactions in crystal structures.

Abstract
The term "wolfium bond" has been recently introduced to describe the noncovalent attraction between an atom of group 6 and a nucleophile via a σ-hole binding site. Crystal structures commonly contain a motif wherein two MX4Y units are arranged in close proximity, where M represents either Mo or W, and X and Y refer to halogen and chalcogen atoms respectively. DFT calculations were thus applied to a wide range of homodimers of these molecules so as to assess their preferred arrangements, and to characterize the types of bonding that are present in each in a systematic manner. The most stable Dual-X configuration is symmetric and contains a pair of equivalent M⋯X bonds. The interaction energies range from -8 to -29 kcal mol-1, and are largest for X = F, Y = O, and M = W. The X electron donor is replaced by Y, and the two wolfium bonds are reduced to one, in the less stable Mono-Y structure, with interaction energies between -2 and -10 kcal mol-1. There is some question as to whether the weaker bonds of this type constitute true wolfium bonds.

Abstract
The novel triel bonds of BX3 (X=H, F, Cl, Br, and I) and C5 H5 B as electron acceptors and AuR2 (R=Cl and CH3 ) as an electron donor were explored. The triel bond is a primary driving force for most complexes, while the contribution from a halogen-chlorine interaction in BX3 -AuCl2 (X=Cl, Br, and I) and an iodine-Au interaction in BI3 -Au(CH3 )3 is also very important. Interestingly, the positively charged Au atom of AuCl2 can attractively bind with the holes of BX3 and C5 H5 B. The interaction energy lies in the range of 1 and 80 kcal/mol, in the order X=F<H<Cl<Br<I. In most cases, the triel bond of C5 H5 B is stronger than the triel bond of BX3 . In the formation of B-Au triel bond, electrostatic energy is not dominant, while polarization energy including orbital interaction has the largest contribution for the strongly bonded complexes and dispersion energy for the weak triel bond.

Abstract
In this compendium, the wide scope of all intermolecular interactions ever known has been revisited, in particular giving emphasis the capability of much of the elements of the periodic table to form non-covalent contacts. Either hydrogen bonds, dihydrogen bonds, halogen bonds, pnictogen bonds, chalcogen bonds, triel bonds, tetrel bonds, regium bonds, spodium bonds or even the aerogen bond interactions may be cited. Obviously that experimental techniques have been used in some works, but it was through the theoretical methods that these interactions were validate, wherein the QTAIM integrations and SAPT energy partitions have been useful in this regard. Therefore, the great goal concerns to elucidate the interaction strength and if the intermolecular system shall be total, partial or non-covalently bonded, wherein this last one encompasses the most majority of the intermolecular interactions what leading to affirm that chemistry is debatably non-bonded.

Abstract
For the first time, long range substituent effects in regium bonding interactions involving Au(I) linear complexes are investigated. The Au(I) atom is coordinated to two para -substituted pyridine ligands. The interaction energy (RI-MP2/def2-TZVP level of theory) of the π-hole regium bonding assemblies is affected by the pyridine substitution. The Hammett's plot representations for several sets of Lewis bases have been carried out and, in all cases, good regression plots have been obtained (interaction energies vs. Hammett's σ parameter). The Bader's theory of "atoms-in-molecules" has been used to evidence that the electron density computed at the bond critical point that connects the Au-atom to the electron donor can be used as a measure of bond order in regium bonding. Several X-ray structures retrieved from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) provide some experimental support to the existence of regium π-hole bonding in [Au(Py) 2 ] + derivatives.

Malonaldehyde-like Systems: BeF2 Clusters—A Subtle Balance between Hydrogen Bonds, Beryllium Bonds, and Resonance. SCI 2022. Abstract
The stability of malonaldehyde is governed by intramolecular hydrogen bonds (IMHBs) as well as in malonaldehyde-like systems where oxygen is replaced by N or S at any of the basic sites. As beryllium bonds have been shown to strongly cooperate with hydrogen bonds, this work explores at the high level ab initio G4 level of theory the effect of including this non-covalent interaction in the system through its association with BeF2. Although malonaldehyde follows the expected trends, where the formation of a pseudocyclic form is favored also when IMHB and Be bonds are present, the subtle balance between both non-covalent interactions leads to some surprising results when other heteroatoms are involved, to the point that interaction energies can be much larger than expected or even cyclization is not favored. A complete analysis using different computational tools gives an answer to those cases escaping the predictable trends.

Abstract
The formation of molecular hydrogen as well as the possibility of using coinage metal hydrides as a prospective complex to produce hydrogen was presented in this work. Therefore, the reactions involving the interaction between two coinage metal hydrides, MH (M=Cu, Ag and Au, homo and heterodimers), were studied. The free energy profiles corresponding to aforementioned complexation were analysed by means of ab initio methods of quantum chemistry. The characteristics of these intermediates, final complexes and the electron density properties of the established interactions were discussed.

Abstract
Non-additive effects in hydrogen bonds (HB) take place as a consequence of electronic charge transfers. Therefore, it is natural to expect cooperativity and anticooperativity in ion-water interactions. Nevertheless, investigations on this matter are scarce. This paper addresses the interactions of (i) the cations Li+ , Na+ , K+ , Be2+ , Mg2+ , and Ca2+ together with (ii) the anions F- , Cl- , Br- , NO3 - and SO4 2- with water clusters (H2 O)n , n=1-8, and the effects of these ions on the HBs within the complete molecular adducts. We used quantum chemical topology tools, specifically the quantum theory of atoms in molecules and the interacting quantum atoms energy partition to investigate non-additive effects among the interactions studied herein. Our results show a decrease on the interaction energy between ions and the first neighbouring water molecules with an increment of the coordination number. We also found strong cooperative effects in the interplay between HBs and ion-dipole interactions within the studied systems. Such cooperativity affects considerably the interactions among ions with their first and second solvation shells in aqueous environments. Overall, we believe this article provides valuable information about how ion-dipole contacts interact with each other and how they relate to other interactions, such as HBs, in the framework of non-additive effects in aqueous media.

Abstract
In the present paper, we report the quantitative evaluation of the electron density shift (EDS) maps within different complexes. Values associated with the total EDS maps exhibited good correlation with different quantities such as interaction energies, Eint, intermolecular distances, bond critical points, and LMOEDA energy decomposition terms. Besides, EDS maps at different cutoffs were also evaluated and related with the interaction energies values. Finally, EDS maps and their corresponding values are found to correlate with Eint within systems with cooperative effects. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the EDS has been quanitatively evaluated.

Abstract
In this study, the non-covalent interactions between gold cluster and benzene have been evaluated at the PBE0-D3/def2-TZVP level of theory. Gold clusters Aun (n = 2-8) were used as σ-hole and σ-lump donors, and benzene was the corresponding electron-donating and -accepting molecule. The molecular electrostatic potential of Au clusters was analyzed, and the optimized structures and interaction energies of the Aun (n = 2-8) Bz complexes with σ-hole or σ-lump interaction were studied. Strong σ-hole and relative weak σ-lump interactions exist between Au cluster and benzene. With the help of atoms-in-molecules analysis and plotting of non-covalent interaction map, the interaction zones of the complexes were found out. The nature of these interactions was revealed through energy decomposition analysis by using the symmetry-adapted perturbation theory. σ-Hole interactions are dominated by electrostatic interaction, while σ-lump interactions are mainly driven by dispersion. This study can enrich the knowledge of interaction between Au cluster and π-systems and design of new materials based on coinage metal of σ-hole and σ-lump interactions.

Abstract
The aim of this article is to present results of theoretical study on the properties of C⋯M bonds, where C is either a carbene or carbodiphosphorane carbon atom and M is an acidic center of MX2 (M = Be, Mg, Zn). Due to the rarity of theoretical data regarding the C⋯Zn bond (i.e., the zinc bond), the main focus is placed on comparing the characteristics of this interaction with C⋯Be (beryllium bond) and C⋯Mg (magnesium bond). For this purpose, theoretical studies (ωB97X-D/6-311++G(2df,2p)) have been performed for a large group of dimers formed by MX2 (X = H, F, Cl, Br, Me) and either a carbene ((NH2)2C, imidazol-2-ylidene, imidazolidin-2-ylidene, tetrahydropyrymid-2-ylidene, cyclopropenylidene) or carbodiphosphorane ((PH3)2C, (NH3)2C) molecule. The investigated dimers are characterized by a very strong charge transfer effect from either the carbene or carbodiphosphorane molecule to the MX2 one. This may even be over six times as strong as in the water dimer. According to the QTAIM and NCI method, the zinc bond is not very different than the beryllium bond, with both featuring a significant covalent contribution. However, the zinc bond should be definitely stronger if delocalization index is considered.

Abstract
Over the last years, scientific interest in noncovalent interactions based on the presence of electron-depleted regions called σ-holes or π-holes has markedly accelerated. Their high directionality and strength, comparable to hydrogen bonds, has been documented in many fields of modern chemistry. The current review gathers and digests recent results concerning these bonds, with a focus on those systems where both σ and π-holes are present on the same molecule. The underlying principles guiding the bonding in both sorts of interactions are discussed, and the trends that emerge from recent work offer a guide as to how one might design systems that allow multiple noncovalent bonds to occur simultaneously, or that prefer one bond type over another.

Abstract
The equilibrium geometry and two measures (the equilibrium dissociation energy in the complete basis set limit, De(CBS) and the intermolecular stretching force constant kσ) of the strength of the non-covalent interaction of each of six Lewis acids M–X (M = Cu, Ag, Au) with each of nine simple Lewis bases B (B = N2, CO, HCCH, CH2CH2, H2S, PH3, HCN, H2O, and NH3) have been calculated at the CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory in a systematic investigation of the coinage–metal bond. Unlike the corresponding series of hydrogen-bonded B⋯HX and halogen-bonded B⋯XY complexes (and other series involving non-covalent interactions), De is not directly proportional to kσ. Nevertheless, as for the other series, it has been possible to express De in terms of the equation De = cNB.EMX, where NB and EMX are the nucleophilicities of the Lewis bases B and the electrophilicities of the Lewis acids M–X, respectively. The order of the EMX is determined to be EAuF > EAuCl > ECuF > ECuCl > EAgF ≈ EAgCl. A reduced electrophilicity defined as (EMX/σmax) is introduced, where σmax is the maximum positive value of the molecular electrostatic surface potential on the 0.001 e/bohr3 iso-surface. This quantity is, in good approximation, independent of whether F or Cl is attached to M.

Abstract
In order to explore the angular strain role on the ability of Be to form strong beryllium bonds, a theoretical study of the complexes of four beryllium derivatives of orthocloso-carboranes with eight molecules (CO, N2, NCH, CNH, OH2, SH2, NH3, and PH3) acting as Lewis bases has been carried out at the G4 computational level. The results for these complexes, which contain besides Be other electron-deficient elements, such as B, have been compared with the analogous ones formed by three beryllium salts (BeCl2, CO3Be and SO4Be) with the same set of Lewis bases. The results show the presence of large and positive values of the electrostatic potential associated to the beryllium atoms in the isolated four beryllium derivatives of ortho-carboranes, evidencing an intrinsically strong acidic nature. In addition, the LUMO orbital in these systems is also associated to the beryllium atom. These features led to short intermolecular distances and large dissociation energies in the complexes of the beryllium derivatives of ortho-carboranes with the Lewis bases. Notably, as a consequence of the special framework provided by the ortho-carboranes, some of these dissociation energies are larger than the corresponding beryllium bonds in the already strongly bound SO4Be complexes, in particular for N2 and CO bases. The localized molecular orbital energy decomposition analysis (LMOEDA) shows that among the attractive terms associated with the dissociation energy, the electrostatic term is the most important one, except for the complexes with the two previously mentioned weakest bases (N2 and CO), where the polarization term dominates. Hence, these results contribute to further confirm the importance of bending on the beryllium environment leading to strong interactions through the formation of beryllium bonds.

Abstract
The structures reported in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) for neutral metallacycles formed by coinage metals in their valence (I) (cations) and pyrazolate anions were examined. Depending on the metal, dimers and trimers are the most common but some larger rings have also been reported, although some of the larger structures are not devoid of ambiguity. M06-2x calculations were carried out on simplified structures (without C-substituents on the pyrazolate rings) in order to facilitate a comparison with the reported X-ray structures (geometries and energies). The problems of stability of the different ring sizes were also analyzed.

Abstract
The geometry, energy and electron density properties of the 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 complexes between cyclic (Py-M)3 (M = Au, Ag and Cu) and halide ions (F-, Cl- and Br-) were studied using Møller Plesset (MP2) computational methods. Three different configurations were explored. In two of them, the anions interact with the metal atoms in planar and apical dispositions, while in the last configuration, the anions interact with the CH(4) group of the pyrazole. The energetic results for the 1:2 and 1:3 complexes are a combination of the specific strength of the interaction plus a repulsive component due to the charge:charge coulombic term. However, stable minima structures with dissociation barriers for the anions indicate that those complexes are stable and (Py-M)3 can hold up to three anions simultaneously. A search in the CSD confirmed the presence of (Pyrazole-Cu)3 systems with two anions interacting in apical disposition.

Abstract
A theoretical study of the complexes formed by Ag2 and Cu2 with different molecules, XH (FH, ClH, OH2 , SH2 , HCN, HNC, HCCH, NH3 and PH3 ) that can act as hydrogen-bond donors (Lewis acids) or regium-bond acceptors (Lewis bases) was carried out at the CCSD(T)/CBS computational level. The heteronuclear diatomic coinage molecules (AuAg, AuCu, and AgCu) have also been considered. With the exception of some of the hydrogen-bonded complexes with FH, the regium-bonded binary complexes are more stable. The AuAg and AuCu molecules show large dipole moments that weaken the regium bond (RB) with Au and favour those through the Ag and Cu atoms, respectively.

Abstract
The regium-π interaction is an attractive noncovalent force between group 11 elements (Cu, Ag, and Au) acting as Lewis acids and aromatic surfaces. Herein, we report for the first time experimental (Protein Data Bank analysis) and theoretical (RI-MP2/def2-TZVP level of theory) evidence of regium-π bonds involving Au(I) and aromatic amino acids (Phe, Tyr, Trp, and His). These findings might be important in the field of drug design and for retrospectively understanding the role of gold in proteins.

Abstract
Albeit the first account of hypervalentπ interactions has been reported with halogenπ interactions, the feasibility of their extension to other hypervalent atoms as possible Lewis acids is still open. In this work, the role of phosphorus as an acceptor from the π electron cloud (Pπ pnicogen or phosphorus bonding) in PCl3-C2H2 and PCl3-C2H4 heterodimers is explored, by combining matrix isolation infrared spectroscopy with ab initio and DFT computational methodologies. The respective potential energy surfaces of the PCl3-C2H2 and PCl3-C2H4 heterodimers reveal unique minima stabilized by a concert of reasonably strong to weak interactions, of which Pπ phosphorus bonding was energetically dominant. Heterodimers, trimers and tetramers bound primarily by this unique phosphorus bond were generated at low temperatures. The dominance of phosphorus bonding in the PCl3-C2H2 and PCl3-C2H4 heterodimers over other interactions (such as Hπ, HCl, HP, Clπ and lone pair-π interactions) was confirmed and substantiated using extended quantum theory of atoms in molecules, natural bond orbital, electrostatic potential mapping and energy decomposition analyses. The following inferences in correlation with results from non-covalent-interaction analysis offer a complete understanding of the nature of the Pπ phosphorus bonding interactions. The significance of electrostatic forces kinetically favoring the formation of phosphorus bonded heterodimers, in addition to thermodynamic stabilization, is demonstrated experimentally.

Abstract
Excimers and exciplexes are defined as assemblies of atoms or molecules A/A' where interatomic/intermolecular bonding appears only in excited states such as [A2 ]* (for excimers) and [AA']* (for exciplexes). Their formation has become widely known because of their role in gas-phase laser technologies, but their significance in general chemistry terms has been given little attention. Recent investigations in gold chemistry have opened up a new field of excimer and exciplex chemistry that relies largely on the preorganization of gold(I) compounds (electronic configuration AuI (5d10 )) through aurophilic contacts. In the corresponding excimers, a new type of Au⋅⋅⋅Au bonding arises, with bond energies and lengths approaching those of ground-state Au-Au bonds between metal atoms in the Au0 (5d10 6s1 ) and AuII (5d9 ) configurations. Excimer formation gives rise to a broad range of photophysical effects, for which some of the relaxation dynamics have recently been clarified. Excimers have also been shown to play an important role in photoredox binuclear gold catalysis.

Abstract
Nowadays, the use of sulfur-based ligands to modify gold-based materials has become a common trend. Here, we present a theoretical exploration of the modulation of the chalcogenides-gold interaction strength, using sulfur, selenium, and tellurium as anchor atoms. To characterize the chalcogenide-gold interaction, we designed a nanocluster of 42 gold atoms (Au42) to model a gold surface (111) and a series of 60 functionalized phenyl-chalcogenolate ligands to determine the ability of electron-donor and -withdrawing groups to modulate the interaction. The analysis of the interaction was performed by using energy decomposition analysis (EDA), non-covalent interactions index (NCI), and natural population analysis (NPA) to describe the charge transfer processes and to determine data correlation analyses. The results revealed that the magnitudes of the interaction energies increase following the order S < Se < Te, where this interaction strength can be augmented by electron-donor groups, under the donor-acceptor character the chalcogen-gold interaction. We also found that the functionalization in meta position leads to better control of the interaction strength than the ortho substitution due to the steric and inductive effects involved when functionalized in this position.

Abstract
In this review, we provide a consistent description of noncovalent interactions, covering most groups of the Periodic Table. Different types of bonds are discussed using their trivial names. Moreover, the new name “Spodium bonds” is proposed for group 12 since noncovalent interactions involving this group of elements as electron acceptors have not yet been named. Excluding hydrogen bonds, the following noncovalent interactions will be discussed: alkali, alkaline earth, regium, spodium, triel, tetrel, pnictogen, chalcogen, halogen, and aerogen, which almost covers the Periodic Table entirely. Other interactions, such as orthogonal interactions and π-π stacking, will also be considered. Research and applications of σ-hole and π-hole interactions involving the p-block element is growing exponentially. The important applications include supramolecular chemistry, crystal engineering, catalysis, enzymatic chemistry molecular machines, membrane ion transport, etc. Despite the fact that this review is not intended to be comprehensive, a number of representative works for each type of interaction is provided. The possibility of modeling the dissociation energies of the complexes using different models (HSAB, ECW, Alkorta-Legon) was analyzed. Finally, the extension of Cahn-Ingold-Prelog priority rules to noncovalent is proposed.

Abstract
A theoretical study and Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) search of dinuclear Ag(I) pyrazolates interactions with Lewis bases were carried out and the effect of the substituents and ligands on the structure and on the aromaticity were analyzed. A relationship between the intramolecular Ag–Ag distance and stability was found in the unsubstituted system, which indicates a destabilization at longer distances compensated by ligands upon complexation. It was also observed that the asymmetrical interaction with phosphines as ligands increases the Ag–Ag distance. This increase is dramatically higher when two simultaneous PH3 ligands are taken into account. The calculated 109Ag chemical shielding shows variation up to 1200 ppm due to the complexation. Calculations showed that six-membered rings possessed non-aromatic character while pyrazole rings do not change their aromatic character significantly upon complexation.
