Growth and characterization of semiorganic nonlinear optical tetrakis thiourea nickel chloride single crystals

Deep eutectic solvent-assisted in-situ synthesis of nanosheet-packed Ni3S2 porous spheres on Ni foam for high-performance supercapacitors

Herein, self-supported Ni₃S₂ spherical clusters packed with well-defined nanosheets developed on Ni foam (NF) were rationally fabricated via a novel low-temperature solvothermal sulfurization approach in a choline chloride/ethylene glycol (Ethaline)-based deep eutectic solvent (DES). The DES-based sulfurization process drove an interesting time-dependent surface restructuring and phase transformation that occurred on the Ni substrate, leading to the in-situ formation of a Ni₃S₂ layer with controllable architecture. Pre-deposition of a Ni interlayer on the NF substrate provides more assessable electrochemical surface area and reaction sites, which favored fast crystal nucleation/growth and structural reconstruction. Benefiting from the integrated design and unique 3D interdigital architecture, the optimized Ni₃S₂_5/Ni/NF with a sulfurization time of 5 h exhibits a high specific capacitance (specific capacity) of 5,633 mF cm^-2 (860.6 μAh cm^-2) at a current density of 10 mA cm^-2, and maintains 87.7% of initial specific capacitance after 1,000 charge-discharge process at a current density of 20 mA cm^-2. This facile DES-driven solvothermal sulfurization strategy for the fabrication of integrated metal sulfides-based electrode materials could be promising for practical applications in high-performance electrochemical devices.

Crystal growth, characterization and theoretical studies of alkaline earth metal-doped tetrakis(thiourea)nickel(II) chloride

The influence of Sr(II)-doping on the properties of tetrakis(thiourea)nickel(II) chloride (TTNC) has been described. The reduction in the intensity observed in powder X-ray diffraction of doped specimen and slight shifts in vibrational frequencies of doped specimens confirm the lattice stress as a result of doping. Surface morphological changes due to doping of the Sr(II) are observed by scanning electron microscopy. The incorporation of metal into the host crystal lattice was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Lattice parameters are determined by single crystal XRD analysis. The thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis studies reveal the purity of the materials and no decomposition is observed up to the melting point. The nonlinear optical properties of the doped and undoped specimens were studied. Theoretical calculations were performed using the Density functional theory (DFT) method with B3LYP/LANL2DZ as the basis set. The molecular geometry and vibrational frequencies of TTNC in the ground state were calculated and the observed structural parameters of TTNC are compared with parameters obtained from single crystal X-ray studies. The atomic charge distributions are obtained by Mulliken charge population analysis. The first-order molecular hyperpolarizability, polarizability and dipole moment were derived.

Facile synthesis and optical properties of pure and Ni2+, Co2+, Bi3+, Sb3+ substituted Cu3SnS4

Reacting thiourea precursors of the respective metals in ethyleneglycol for few hours, orthorhombic Cu₃SnS₄ and Ni²⁺, Co²⁺ and Sb³⁺ substituted quaternary compositions has been synthesised and characterized thoroughly.

Structural, Linear, and Nonlinear Optical and Mechanical Properties of New Organic L-Serine Crystal

Nonlinear optical single crystal of organic amino acid L-Serine (LS) was grown by slow evaporation technique. Solubility study of the compound was measured and metastable zone width was found. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study was carried out for the grown crystal. The linear and nonlinear optical properties of the crystal were confirmed by UV-Vis analysis and powder SHG tester. FT-IR spectrum was recorded and functional groups were analyzed. Vickers’ microhardness studies showed the mechanical strength of the grown crystal. Laser damage threshold value of the crystal was calculated. Photoconductivity studies reveal the conductivity of the crystal.

Studies on growth, spectral, optical and mechanical properties of new organic NLO crystal: guanidinium L-glutamate (GuGL)

Good optical quality single crystal of guanidinium l-glutamate is grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique. The cell parameters and crystallinity are determined from the single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The formation of synthesized compound was confirmed by FT-IR and FT-Raman spectroscopic analysis. Wide band gap of 4.98eV with high transmittance up to 2000 nm is observed for the grown crystal in UV-Vis-NIR spectral analysis. The optical constants such as refractive index and extinction coefficient of the grown crystal are obtained as 2.1 and 8.64×10(-6) respectively. The nonlinear optical study reveals that the second harmonic generation efficiency of guanidinium l-glutamate is 2.8 times that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP). The mechanical stability of the grown crystal was analyzed by Vickers microhardness test and the results are discussed.

Hexa-kis-(thio-urea-κS)nickel(II) nitrate: a redetermination

A preliminary X-ray study of the title mol­ecular salt, [Ni(CH₄N₂S)₆](NO₃)₂, has been reported twice previously, by Maďar [Acta Cryst. (1961), 14, 894] and Rodriguez, Cubero, Vega, Morente & Vazquez [Acta Cryst. (1961), 14, 1101], using film methods. We confirm the previous studies, but to modern standards of precision and with all H atoms located. The central Ni atom (site symmetry ) of the dication is octa­hedrally coordinated by six S-bound thio­urea mol­ecules. The crystal structure is stabilized by intra- and inter­molecular N—H⋯S and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
