Abstract
The [(p-cymene)RuCl(κ2C,N-{CNHC-NH})]+X- (CNHC = thiazol-2-ylidene) complexes with a bidentate ligand (2: X = Cl and 3: X = PF6) were prepared by a one-pot reaction of vitamin B1 (VB1, 1), Ag2O and [(p-cymene)RuCl2]2. In the complexes, VB1 coordinates through C2 and the exocyclic N in the imino form with the κ2-(C,N) coordination mode. The complexes 2 and 3 are stable in the solid state, but slowly release p-cymene in solution. Furthermore, upon heating in polar solvents, 2 or 3 can be converted by ligand exchange reactions to produce [(L)3RuCl(κ2C,N-{CNHC-NH})]+PF6- (4: L = py).Robustness was improved remarkably for 4. The complex 4 is stable in the solid state and in solution. The complexes 2-4 have been identified by 1H and 13C{1H} 2D NMR spectroscopy and 2 and 4 were studied by X-ray crystallography. In an effort to develop a recyclable catalyst in water, 2-4 were evaluated for TH of ketones and aldehydes with an azeotropic mixture of HCOOH/Et3N in water. The complexes 3 and 4 exhibited very good catalytic activity and 4 could be reused nine times without significant loss of activity, giving a high turnover frequency (TOF50%(h-1) = 1286).

Abstract
A detailed electronic study of the N-phosphine oxide functionalized imidazolin-2-ylidenes (PoxIms) and imidazolidin-2-ylidenes (SPoxIms) has been performed experimentally using IR, 13C, and 77Se NMR spectroscopies. While the net donor/acceptor properties of the (S)PoxIms could not be differentiated via IR spectroscopy (TEP), NMR spectroscopic methods (HEP, Se) reveal that the (S)PoxIms are slightly weaker σ-donors but stronger π-acceptors compared to common NHCs. Moreover, backbone and substituent-effects could also be resolved by the latter, allowing for a ranking of their electronic properties. Finally, the donicities of these well-designed NHC ligands in their bidentate κ2-C,O modes were evaluated using HEP2 and compared to those of classical chelators.

Abstract
A novel three-dimensional (3D) cyclophane molecule 1 was synthesized and fully characterized. Cyclophane 1, which can form a N heterocyclic carbene, was tested for conversion of certain epoxides (3-6) [scheme 2] to cyclic carbonates in the presence of CO2. Propylene oxide (3) was found to have more reactivity with cyclophane 1 compared to the other epoxides. The theoretical calculations based on N,N'-disubstituted imidazol(in)ium-2-carboxylates derived from N,N' disubstituted imidazole as the source of N-heterocyclic carbene show lower activation energy in the case of the reactivity of epoxides 5 and 6 as compared to 3 and 4. However, cyclophane 1, which possesses a 3D geometry, can form the open intermediate with CO2 and propylene oxide more feasibly than the other three epoxides, which have larger sizes as compared to propylene oxide. Hence, the reaction of propylene oxide, CO2, and cyclophane 1 can follow the mechanistic path 1, whereas the epoxides 4-6 can follow a different mechanistic path 2. Cyclophane 1 is the first example of a cyclophane to act as an organocatalyst for the conversion of CO2 and epoxide to cyclic carbonate via the N heterocyclic carbene pathway.

Abstract
A series of nitrile-modified N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of Ir(III) (2a-e) and Ru(II) (3a-d) have been prepared by transmetallation of [IrCp*Cl2]2 and [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 forming an in situ NHC-Ag complex. The structures of all complexes were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopies. And the structures were clearly elucidated by performing X-ray diffraction studies on 2b, 3a, and 3c single crystals. The complexes of NHC-Ir(III) (2a-e) and NHC-Ru(II) (3a-d) were investigated in the N-alkylation reaction of aniline derivatives with benzyl alcohols to form N-benzyl amines and in the N-methylation reaction of aniline derivatives with methanol. Both reactions were performed in solvent-free media. The Ir(III) complexes (2a-e) were found to perform essentially better than similar Ru(II) complexes (3a-d) in the N-alkylation and N-methylation reactions. Among the Ir(III) complexes (2a-e), the best results were obtained with 2b. The catalytic mechanisms of both reactions were revealed by 1H NMR study. Formation of Ir-hydride species was observed for both reactions. This new report provides useful information to evaluate the activity of complexes and the differences in sensitivity between the NHCs.

Abstract
Ruthenium complexes are by far the most studied compounds that catalyze hydrogen transfer reactions. In this review, we describe the use in this field of ruthenium complexes bearing bidentate donor-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene ligands. The review specifically covers the application in transfer hydrogenations of (κ2-CNHC,Y)-ruthenacyclic compounds where the Y donor atom is a N, P, O, or S atom, and where the N-heterocyclic carbene ligand is a classical imidazol-2-ylidene, a benzimidazol-2-ylidene, a mesoionic 1,2,3-triazolylidene, or an imidazol-4-ylidene ligand. Tridentate donor-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene complexes thus fall outside the scope of the review. Applications in (asymmetric) transfer hydrogenation of ketones, aldehydes, imines, alkenes, and nitrobenzene are discussed.

Abstract
In the past few decades, chemistry of cyclometalated species has gained momentum with increased applications in several areas of scientific developments. Cyclometalation reactions result in the formation of stable metallacycles through the generation of metal-carbon covalent bonds by activating the unreactive Csp2 -H or Csp3 -H bonds. The extra stability gained by the formation of metallacycles enhances their applicability scopes especially in the area of homogeneous catalysis. In the recent research development in this area, NHC ligands (strong σ-donor and generally, weak π-acceptor) have been found to be one of the most suitable candidates for the intramolecular C-H activation process which leads to the cyclometalated species. The growth in the area of cyclometalation chemistry that started in the late 20th century is still continuing and in the past few decades, various examples of NHC derived transition metal-based cyclometalated complexes came into the picture. As covering all the reported literatures in this area (includes mainly late transition metals) will exceed the limits of minireview, we restricted ourselves to the recent (2015 - May 2021) examples of the most common Ru-, Rh-, and Ir-based CNHC ^C cyclometalated complexes and their applications in various homogeneous catalytic conversions such as transfer hydrogenation, amidation, oxidation of alcohols, annulations, and so forth.

Abstract
A set of iridium(i) complexes of formula IrCl(κC,η2-IRCouR')(cod) or IrCl(κC, η2-BzIRCouR')(cod) (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene; Cou = coumarin; I = imidazolin-2-carbene; BzI = benzimidazolin-2-carbene) have beeen prepared from the corresponding azolium salt and [Ir(μ-OMe)(cod)]2 in THF at room temperature. The crystalline structures of 4b and 5b show a distorted trigonal bipyramidal configuration in the solid state with a coordinated coumarin moiety. In contrast, an equilibrium between this pentacoordinated structure and the related square planar isomer is observed in solution as a consequence of the hemilability of the pyrone ring. Characterization of both species by NMR was achieved at the low and high temperature limits, respectively. In addition, the thermodynamic parameters of the equilibrium, ΔHR and ΔSR, were obtained by VT 1H NMR spectroscopy and fall in the range 22-33 kJ mol-1 and 72-113 J mol-1 K-1, respectively. Carbonylation of IrCl(κC,η2-BzITolCou7,8-Me2)(cod) resulted in the formation of a bis-CO derivative showing no hemilabile behaviour. The newly synthesised complexes efficiently catalyze the hydrosilylation of alkynes at room temperature with a preference for the β-(Z) vinylsilane isomer.

Pyridine-Chelated Imidazo[1,5-a]Pyridine N-Heterocyclic Carbene Nickel(II) Complexes for Acrylate Synthesis from Ethylene and CO2. Catalysts 2020. Abstract
Nickel(II) dichloride complexes with a pyridine-chelated imidazo[1,5-a]pyridin-3-ylidene py-ImPy ligand were developed as novel catalyst precursors for acrylate synthesis reaction from ethylene and carbon dioxide (CO2), a highly promising sustainable process in terms of carbon capture and utilization (CCU). Two types of ImPy salts were prepared as new C,N-bidentate ligand precursors; py-ImPy salts (3, 4a–4e) having a pyridine group at C(5) on ImPy and a N-picolyl-ImPy salt (10) having a picolyl group at N atom on ImPy. Nickel(II) complexes such as py-ImPyNi(II)Cl2 (7, 8a–8e) and N-picolyl-ImPyNi(II)Cl2 (12) were synthesized via transmetalation protocol from silver(I) complexes, py-ImPyAgCl (5, 6a–6e) and N-picolyl-ImPyAgCl (11). X-ray diffraction analysis of nickel(II) complexes (7, 8b, 12) showed a monomeric distorted tetrahedral geometry and a six-membered chelate ring structure. py-ImPy ligands formed a more planar six-membered chelate with the nickel center than did N-picolyl-ImPy ligand. py-ImPyNi(II)Cl2 complexes (8a–8e) with tert-butyl substituents exhibited noticeable catalytic activity in acrylate synthesis from ethylene and CO2 (up to 108% acrylate). Interestingly, the use of additional additives including monodentate phosphines increased catalytic activity up to 845% acrylate (TON 8).

Abstract
A series of cationic Ru(ii)(η6-p-cymene) complexes with thioether-functionalised N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been prepared and fully characterized. Steric and electronic influence of the R thioether substituent on the coordination of the sulfur atom was investigated. The molecular structure of three of them has been determined by means of X-ray diffractrometry and confirmed the bidentate (κ2-C,S) coordination mode of the ligand. Interestingly, only a single diastereomer, as an enantiomeric couple, was observed in the solid state for complexes 1c, 1i and 1j. DFT calculations established a low energy inversion barrier between the two diastereomers through a sulfur pyramidal inversion pathway with R donating group while a dissociative/associative mechanism is more likely with R substituents that contain electron withdrawing group, thus suggesting that the only species observed by the 1H-NMR correspond to an average resonance position of a fluxional mixtures of isomers. All these complexes were found to catalyse the oxydant-free double dehydrogenation of primary amine into nitrile. Ru complex bearing NHC-functionalised S-tBu group was further investigated in a wide range of amines and was found more selective for alkyl amine substrates than for benzylamine derivatives. Finally, preliminary results of the biological effects on various human cancer cells of four selected Ru complexes are reported.

Abstract
We present a new class of dicationic palladium NHC complexes with two carbene ligands bearing different aryl substituents and a hemilabile pyrimidyl group. They can either be synthesized from the imidazolium salts via the silver transmetalation route to a halide-free palladium(ii) precursor or by direct deprotonation by palladium acetate. For four complexes we could determine their solid-state structures by X-ray diffraction experiments. Insight gained by NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations revealed that in solution the two potentially bidentate ligands interchange between chelating and non-chelating coordination modes. The preference of these coordination modes is governed by the steric influence of the different ligands. The complexes were shown to be active catalysts for the hydroarylation of alkynes, and their performance was rationalized by DFT calculations.

Abstract
In the cation of the title mol-ecular salt, C18H24N3O+·Cl-, an intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond stabilizes the almost coplanar orientation of the aromatic ring of the indane unit and the amide plane. In the crystal, the packing is dominated by inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions that result in the formation of slab-like structures propagating along [010]. The slabs are linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming layers lying parallel to (100). The methyl-ene carbon atom of the indanyl substituent is disordered over two positions with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.84 (2):0.16 (2). The crystal studied was refined as a twin with matrix [1 0 0.9, 0 0, 0 0 ]; the resulting BASF value is 0.30.

Abstract
A series of half-sandwich iridium(III) benzimidazole-appended imidazolium-based N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) antitumor complexes [(η5 -Cpx )Ir(C^N)Cl]Cl, where Cpx is pentamethylcyclopentadienyl (Cp*) or its biphenyl derivative (Cpxbiph ) and C^N is a NHC chelating ligand, were successfully synthesized and characterized. The IrIII complexes showed potential antitumor activity against A549 cells, at most three times more potent than cis-platin under the same conditions. Complexes could bind to BSA by a static quenching mode, catalyzing the change of NADH to NAD+ and inducing the production of reactive oxygen species (maximum turnover number, 9.8), which play an important role in regulating cell apoptosis. Confocal microscopy showed that the complexes could specifically target lysosomes in cells with a Pearson's co-localization coefficient 0.76 and 0.72 after 1 h and 6 h, respectively, followed an energy-dependent cellular uptake mechanism and damaged the integrity of lysosomes. At the same time, complexes caused a marked loss of mitochondrial membrane potential.
