Abstract
A detailed theoretical study delving into the molecular mechanisms of the Ullmann-type O-arylation reactions catalyzed by manganese and zinc metal ions has been investigated with the aid of the density functional theory (DFT) method. In contrast to the redox-active mechanisms proposed for classical Ullmann-type condensation reaction, a redox-neutral mechanism involving σ-bond metathesis emerged as the most appealing pathway for the investigated high-valent Mn(II) and Zn(II)-catalyzed O-arylation reactions. The mechanism remains invariant with respect to the nature of the central metal, ligand, base, etc. This unusuality in the mechanism has been dissected by considering three cases: ligand-free and ligand-assisted Mn(II)-catalyzed O-arylation reaction and ligand-assisted Zn(II)-catalyzed O-arylation reactions. In each class, a metal phenoxide species was identified as the active catalyst. The unusual mechanistic trends observed in these C-O cross-coupling reactions could be attributed to the stable electronic configurations (d5, d10) combined with the higher oxidation states of the catalytic metal centers (Mn(II), Zn(II)). The exploration into the electronic effects of functional groups in controlling the reaction feasibility within each metal variant disclosed a consistent trend irrespective of the transition metal catalyst involved in the reaction. It was found that the introduction of electron-withdrawing groups at the para-position of organic halide lowers the energy of their lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMO), thereby lowering the HOMO-LUMO gap between the coupling partners. This study thereby revealed a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental mechanisms exhibited by high-valent first-row transition metal catalysts that could foster the development of eco-friendly protocols for preparing biaryl ether moieties.

Abstract
A set of heteroleptic ethyl zinc β-amidoenoates (1, 2) and β-ketoiminates (3) of the form [LZnEt]2 with varying steric bulk have been synthesised via the reaction of diethylzinc with β-aminoenoate ligands HL1 and HL2 and β-ketoimine HL3. These complexes have been characterised via 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectrometry and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which unambiguously determined all three structures as dimeric species in the solid state. We observe the unusual dimerisation of 1 and 2 through coordination of the central zinc atom to the methine carbon of the second monomer, which gives these complexes high reactivity. The thermal properties of complex 3 are explored via thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), to investigate their potential as single-source precursors to zinc oxide, which shows that 3 has a significantly lower decomposition temperature as compared to its bis-ligated counterpart [Zn(L3)2], which gives 3 promise as a single-source precursor to zinc oxide.

Abstract
In this paper, we have used two N,O-ketiminato ligands (L1 and L2) with biphenyl and terphenyl substituent on the nitrogen atom. Deprotonation of L1 with KN(SiMe3 )2 and subsequent reaction with MgI2 led to a homoleptic dinuclear magnesium complex (1) with a Mg2 O2 four-membered ring. Deprotonation with nBuLi and subsequent reaction with MgI2 afforded a unusual dinuclear magnesium complex (2) with a Mg2 O2 ring. Extension of the ligand for calcium resulted in a trinuclear calcium complex (3) with six four-membered Ca2 O2 rings. We could not isolate any chelating complex when L2 was used as a ligand, and only oxygen bound magnesium (4) and calcium (5) adducts were isolated. DFT studies were performed to understand this dissimilar behavior. More diverse results were obtained when lithiated L1 and L2 were treated with germanium dichloride. We were able to stabilize a monomeric germylene monochloride (7) with L1. However, with L2, an unusual ligand scrambling, and a C-C coupling take place, leading to the formation of a secondary carbocation with GeCl3 - as a counter-anion (8). Besides, a germanium dichloride adduct (9) bound to the oxygen center of the ligand was obtained as the minor product.

Abstract
In this study, the selective 1,2-addition of diethylzinc to the ketone functionality of BMdiPhIK [bis(1-methyl-4,5-diphenylimidazolyl)ketone] is shown. The reaction product is isolated in a dimeric form with a planar Zn2(µ-O)2-motif keeping the two monomers together. This compound can serve as a model for reactive intermediates in the catalytic alkylation of ketones with diorganozinc reagents. Hydrolysis of this binuclear zinc compound leads to isolation of the C-alkylated product in 89 % yield. A reaction pathway is proposed in which BMdiPhIK initially coordinates to diethylzinc as a bidentate bis(nitrogen) ligand. This is followed by the homolytic cleavage of the Zn-Et bond and in-cage recombination of the Et-radical and the Zn-coordinated ligand-centered radical, which is mainly localized on the carbonyl moiety of the ligand.

Abstract
Treatment of the lithium salt of β-ketimine with FeCl2(THF)1.5 in the presence of LiN(SiMe3)2 and water affords the multimetallic iron(ii)-lithium complex 1, [(LMe)2Fe]3Li2O [where LMe = MeC(O)CHC(NMe)Me]. In complex 1 three separated (LMe)2Fe units are bound together by one Li2O species, which leads to the formation of an interesting {Fe3Li2O} core structure. Complex 1 can be used as a single-component initiator for the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone at room temperature, achieving a monomer conversion of 98% within 100 min, and a narrow molecular weight distribution (PDI = 1.28) of the resulting polymer.

Abstract
Five transition metal complexes NiL(1)2 (1), CuL(1)2 (2), ZnL(1)2 (3), [MnL(1)2(N3)]n·nCH2Cl2 (4), CuL(2)2 (5) {HL(1)=3-{[2-(2-hydroxy-ethoxy)-ethylimino]-methyl}-naphthalen-2-ol, HL(2)=2-{[2-(2-hydroxy-ethoxy)-ethylimino]-methyl}-phenol} have been synthesized and fully characterized. In all of the complexes, the ligands coordinated to the metal ion in a negative fashion via O and N donor atoms. The X-ray structures of nickel complex 1 and copper complexes 2 and 5 are four-coordinated monomers and show slightly distorted square-planar geometry in the vicinity of the central metal atom. Zinc complex 3 exhibits a four-coordinated tetrahedral structure. Differently, manganese complex 4 reveals a six-coordinated octahedral structure, one-dimensional chain is linked by azide in the end-to-end mode. In vitro cytotoxicity of these complexes to various tumor cell lines was assayed by the MTT method. The results showed that most of these metal-Schiff base complexes exhibited enhanced cytotoxicity than Schiff base ligands, which clearly implied a positive synergistic effect. Moreover, these complexes appeared to be selectively active against certain cell lines. The interactions of these metal complexes with CT-DNA were investigated by UV-vis, fluorescence and CD spectroscopy, the results indicated that these complexes are metallointercalators and can interact with CT-DNA. The study of interaction between complexes and BSA indicated that all of the complexes could quench the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA in a static quenching process.

Abstract
Eight bis-ligated, homoleptic, zinc complexes were synthesized through the reaction of NNO Schiff base ketoimines bearing varying substituents with diethyl zinc in an inert atmosphere glovebox at room temperature and isolated in 62-95% yield. The complexes were characterized with (1)H, (13)C, and (19)F nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, absorbance spectroscopy, high resolution mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The complexes were shown to adopt distorted octahedral coordination geometry around zinc. The (1)H and (19)F NMR spectra of complexes 1-7 showed stable zinc coordination at 300 K while the effect of steric encumbrance and two trifluoromethyl groups in complex 8 was investigated with variable temperature NMR. The bis-ligated zinc complexes were effective initiators for the ring opening polymerization of L-lactide into poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). With [L-lac]/[Zn complex] = 50, the bis-ligated zinc complexes yielded percentage conversion of 14-98% with polymerization times varying from 15-1440 min, where the longest reaction times were required when two trifluoromethyl groups were present. The addition of 4-fluorophenol co-catalyst resulted in up to a 5-fold increase in the percentage conversion in toluene solution and up to a 14-fold increase in bulk melt polymerization with reductions in the poly-dispersity index values for the isolated PLLA. Addition of 4-fluorophenol to complex 1 was studied with (1)H and (19)F NMR and appeared to yield an in situ generated zinc alkoxide complex.
