A colorimetric immunoassay for determination of Escherichia coli O157:H7 based on oxidase-like activity of cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework

Cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework nanosheets (ZIF-67) with oxidase-like catalytic activities as an immunoprobe were employed to enhance the sensitivity of an immunoassay. ZIF-67 was synthesized via the solvothermal method using 2-methylimidazole and cobalt dichloride as substrates. A colorimetric immunoassay for Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 was designed. Preparation of the immunoprobe involved self-polymerized dopamine being applied for the surface modification of ZIF-67 nanosheets in order to bind to the antibody, which was used to identify E. coli O157:H7. ZIF-67 catalyze the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbiphenyl (TMB) and produced a color change from colorless to blue. Upon reaction termination, the absorbance was measured at 450 nm. By combining ZIF-67@PDA catalyzed chromogenic reaction with antibody recognition and magnetic separation, the limit of determination is 12 CFU mL^-1 and the linear range is 30 to 3.0 × 10⁸ CFU mL^-1. Mesoporous Metal-Organic Frameworks: Synthetic Strategies and Emerging Applications

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted much attention over the past two decades due to their highly promising applications not only in the fields of gas storage, separation, catalysis, drug delivery, and sensors, but also in relatively new fields such as electric, magnetic, and optical materials resulting from their extremely high surface areas, open channels and large pore cavities compared with traditional porous materials like carbon and inorganic zeolites. Particularly, MOFs involving pores within the mesoscopic scale possess unique textural properties, leading to a series of research in the design and applications of mesoporous MOFs. Unlike previous Reviews, apart from focusing on recent advances in the synthetic routes, unique characteristics and applications of mesoporous MOFs, this Review also mentions the derivatives, composites, and hierarchical MOF-based systems that contain mesoporosity, and technical boundaries and challenges brought by the drawbacks of mesoporosity. Moreover, this Review subsequently reveals promising perspectives of how recently discovered approaches to different morphologies of MOFs (not necessarily entirely mesoporous) and their corresponding performances can be extended to minimize the shortcomings of mesoporosity, thus providing a wider and brighter scope of future research into mesoporous MOFs, but not just limited to the finite progress in the target substances alone.

Tuning the porosity through interpenetration of azobenzene-4,4′-dicarboxylate-based metal–organic frameworks

Pore size is tuned in a series of azobenzene-4,4′-dicarboxylate/3,6-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine/Zn or Cd based MOFs through a variable interpenetration degree. These structural features promote subtle shifts in the blue emission of the compounds.
