Abstract
The development of synthetic strategies enabling the stereo- and regio-selective synthesis of organic molecules is indispensable in the pharmaceutical industry. This work describes a stereo- and regioselective synthesis of (E)/(Z)-1,1-disubstituted-3-(1-arylalkylidene)-1,3-dihydroisobenzofurans catalyzed by palladium. The DHIBFs are achieved from readily available aryl bromides and ortho-alkyne tertiary alcohols via intermolecular aryl Heck coupling and intramolecular oxo-cyclization of the suitably situated hydroxyl group. Significantly, it was demonstrated that a Z-isomer was formed as a substantial isomer at 80 °C for 6 h, whereas the stable E-isomer was the predominant one at slightly vigorous conditions (100 °C for 12 h). In addition, careful observation has also led to the realization that this double isomerization from Z- to E-isomer was triggered in the NMR tube itself in CDCl3 at room temperature. Significantly, this protocol, for the first time, enabled the synthesis of heavily substituted dihydroisobenzofurans, especially, bearing a tetra-substituted double bond.

Abstract
Supported catalysts are important tools for developing green-economy-based processes. Palladium nanoparticles (NPs) that are immobilized on two fibers developed as metal scavengers (i.e., Smopex®-234 and Smopex®-111, 1% w/w) have been prepared and tested in copper-free cyclocarbonylative Sonogashira reactions. Their catalytic activity has been compared with that of a homogeneous catalyst (i.e., PdCl2(PPh3)2). Pd/Smopex®-234 showed high activity and selectivity in the synthesis of functionalized heterocycles, such as phthalans and isochromans, even when working with a very low amount of palladium (0.2–0.5 mol%). The extension of Pd/Smopex®-234 promoted cyclocarbonylative reactions to propargyl and homopropargyl amides afforded the corresponding isoindoline and dihydrobenzazepine derivatives. A preliminary test on Pd NPs leaching into the solution (1.7 × 10−3 mg) seems to indicate that, at the end of the reaction, almost all of the active metal is present on the fiber surface.

Abstract
An efficient gold-catalyzed formation of indenylidene-derived 1H-isochromene-4-carbaldehydes from substituted 1,5,10-triyne-O-silanes was developed under mild reaction conditions. In this reaction, gold-catalyzed selective oxidation, 1,2-migration, nucleophilic addition and then 5-endo-dig cyclization took place regioselectively. The indenylidene-derived isochromene-4-carbaldehydes were synthesized in moderate to very good yields via the formation of new C-C and C-O bonds in one pot.

Abstract
Cu(I)-catalyzed intramolecular annulation of o-ethynylquinoline-3-carbaldehydes leads to the synthesis of alkoxy/imidazole-substituted 1,3-dihydrofuro[3,4-b]quinolines via C-O and C-N bond formation. The scope of the reaction was further extended to o-ethynylquinoline-3-carbonitriles for the synthesis of alkoxy-substituted 3H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]quinolines using alcohols as nucleophiles. These reactions are regioselectively favoring the 5-exo-dig cyclizations in all the annulation processes.

Abstract
In this account, we review our efforts in the field of carbonylation reactions promoted by palladium iodide-based catalysts, which have proven to be particularly efficient in diverse kinds of carbonylation processes (oxidative carbonylations as well as additive and substitutive carbonylations). Particularly in the case of oxidative carbonylations, more emphasis has been given to the most recent results and applications.

Abstract
In this study we used sequential catalysis-PPh(3)--catalyzed nucleophilic addition followed by Pd(0)-catalyzed Heck cyclization--to construct complex functionalized alkylidene phthalans rapidly, in high yields, and with good stereoselectivities (E/Z ratios of up to 1:22). The scope of this Michael-Heck reaction includes substrates bearing various substituents around the alkylidene phthalan backbone. Applying this efficient sequential catalysis, we accomplished concise total syntheses of 3-deoxyisoochacinic acid, isoochracinic acid, and isoochracinol.

Abstract
We present a general, practical, and efficient approach to 5- and 6-membered organic carbonates by palladium-catalyzed direct oxidative carbonylation of 1,2- and 1,3-diols, respectively. Reactions were carried out at 100 °C in N,N-dimethylacetamide as the solvent under 20 atm (at 25 °C; 1 atm=101.3 kPa) of a 4:1 v/v CO/air mixture in the presence of 0.5-2 mol % of PdI(2) and KI (KI/PdI(2) molar ratio=10). Excess dehydrating agent, such as trimethyl orthoacetate, was necessary in several cases to obtain appreciable results. The method could also be applied to the synthesis of a high-value-added glycerol carbonate from glycerol, a readily available raw material. When applied to α-D-glucose, a double carbonylation process took place, with direct formation of α-D-glucofuranose 1,2:5,6-dicarbonate.

Abstract
Fluoride-based deprotection of silylated 2-alkynylbenzyl alcohol derivatives featuring carbonyl-substituted alkynes results in the direct synthesis of alkylidenephthalan vinylogous esters. The reaction is selective for the Z alkylidenephthalans in a thermodynamically controlled process. Similar compounds are also produced in the coupling of Fischer carbene complexes with 2-alkynylbenzoyl derivatives in an aqueous solvent system. Subsequent acid-catalyzed inter- or intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions lead to hydronaphthalene or hydrophenanthrene derivatives.
