Abstract
Under the combined action of trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) and triflic acid (TfOH), tertiary sulfonamides are efficiently activated, leading to the in situ generation of electrophilic sulfonamide salts. These electrophilic salts subsequently undergo nucleophilic substitution by alcohols, resulting in the formation of sulfonate esters under mild conditions. Other advantages of this method include the absence of transition-metal catalysts, broad substrate applicability, and high functional-group tolerance.

Abstract
We designed and successfully synthesized highly substituted electron-deficient nonplanar Ni(II) porphyrins and their derivatives (1-7) in moderate to good yields. These derivatives were comprehensively characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. SCXRD analysis confirmed the structures of compounds 2, 4, and 7, adopting saddle-shape geometry. These nonplanar porphyrins demonstrated significant bathochromic shifts in their absorption spectra compared to parent NiTPP, attributed to the influence of bulky β-substituents and/or peripheral fusion. π-Extended porphyrins 6 and 7 displayed panchromatic absorption spectra extending into the NIR region. Porphyrins 6 and 7 demonstrated a profound anodic shift (∼400 mV) in their first reduction peak potentials compared to precursor NiTPP(NO2)Br6. The experimental absorption spectral pattern matches the simulated absorption spectra obtained from TD-DFT studies. The femtosecond laser intensity-dependent third-order nonlinear optical studies revealed that NiDFP(VCN)2Br6 (6) and NiDFP(VCN)2(PE)6 (7) displayed giant optical nonlinearities compared to the other porphyrins. Among all, NiDFP(VCN)2Br6 (6) possessed the highest two-photon absorption coefficient (β) and cross-section (σTPA) values in the range of 22-33 × 10-10 m/W and 3.77-6.95 × 106 GM, respectively. These findings suggest that the investigated nonplanar π-extended porphyrins are promising candidates for future optoelectronic applications.

Abstract
Dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN) is an emerging disinfection by-product (DBP) that is widespread in drinking water. However, the pathway for DCAN formation from aromatic amino acids remains unclear, leading to a lack of an understanding of its explicit fate during chloramination. In this study, we investigated the specific formation mechanism of DCAN during the chloramination of phenylalanine based on reaction kinetics and chemical thermodynamics. The reason for differences between aldehyde and decarboxylation pathways was explained, and kinetic parameters of the pathways were obtained through quantum chemistry calculations. The results showed that the reaction rate constant of the rate-limiting step of the aldehyde pathway with 1.9 × 10-11 s-1 was significantly higher than that of decarboxylation (3.6 × 10-16 s-1 M-1), suggesting that the aldehyde pathway is the main reaction pathway for DCAN formation during the chloramination of phenylalanine to produce DCAN. Subsequently, theoretical calculations were performed to elucidate the effect of pH on the formation mechanism, which aligned well with the experimental results. Dehydrohalogenation was found to be the rate-limiting step under acidic conditions with reaction rate constants higher than those of the rate-limiting step (expulsion of amines) under neutral conditions, increasing the rate of DCAN formation. This study highlights the differences in DCAN formation between the decarboxylation and aldehyde pathways during the chloramination of precursors at both molecular and kinetic levels, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the reaction mechanisms by which aromatic free amino acids generate DCAN.

Abstract
The crystal structures of three S-(pyridin-2-yl) benzo-thio-esters with varying para-phenyl substituents are presented, namely, S-(pyridin-2-yl) 4-nitro-benzo-thio-ate (1, C12H8N2O3S), S-(pyridin-2-yl) 4-methyl-benzo-thio-ate (2, C13H11NO2S) and S-(pyridin-2-yl) 4-meth-oxy-benzo-thio-ate (3, C13H11NO2S). This class of compounds are used in the mono-acyl-ation of pyrrolic species to yield multifunctional tetra-pyrroles. The structures presented herein are the first of their compound class. The dominant inter-actions present in this series are π-π stacking and C-H⋯O inter-actions, and as the para-phenyl motif changes from electron withdrawing (NO2, 1) to electron donating (OCH3, 3), changes are observed in the inter-actions present in the crystal packing, from predominant π-π stacking in 1 to exclusively C-H⋯O/N inter-actions (Car-yl-H⋯Ocarbon-yl, C-H⋯Ometh-oxy and Car-yl-H⋯Npyridine) in 3.

Abstract
Nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SN Ar) chemistry has been applied to develop many functionalized pentafluorobenzene derivatives. Those compounds are highly specific at the para position of the fluorinated ring. Therefore, they are typical adducts for the preparation of antioxidant molecular systems. In this context, we report the use of SN Ar chemistry as a suitable and simple approach for the synthesis of fluorescent antioxidant perfluorinated materials bearing ether bonds in various para-substituted alkoxy chains and with high purity and excellent yields. The fluoroterphenyl core was prepared via alkylation, Cu(I)-assisted decarboxylation, and cross-coupling using the potassium salt of fluorobenzoate, followed by the reaction with different alcohols. The structures of the synthesized fluoroterphenyl adducts were investigated using FT-IR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and 19 F NMR spectroscopy. The emission spectra and absorption spectra showed solvatochromism. The newly prepared tetrafluoroterphenyl analogues were investigated by antioxidant examination using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay. Results were compared with ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxytoluene as references, and revealed that the tetrafluoroterphenyl analogues containing a decyl chain had the highest activity, with an IC50 value of 22.36 ± 0.19 g/ml. The produced tetrafluoroterphenyl analogues were used in molecular docking strategies with a Protein Data Bank protein ID 5IKQ. The antioxidant investigations and docking results were convergent.

Abstract
Details on the unexpected formation of two new (dimethylamino)methyl corrole isomers from the reaction of 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrolatogallium(III) with sarcosine and paraformaldehyde are presented. Semi-empirical calculations on possible mechanism pathways seem to indicate that the new compounds are probably formed through a Mannich-type reaction. The extension of the protocol to the free-base 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrole afforded an unexpected new seven-membered ring corrole derivative, confirming the peculiar behavior of corroles towards known reactions when compared to the well-behaved porphyrin counterparts.

Abstract
The equilibrium solution adsorption of perfluorinated metal phthalocyanines FXPcZn (x = 16, 64) on titania was investigated. This method was explored as an alternative to the frequently used vapor deposition technique for the preparation of solid-supported phthalocyanines for applications such as sensitizers, catalysts, and sensors. According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-vis, and water contact angles, the adsorption of phthalocyanines from acetone solution occurred readily at room temperature resulting in the formation of hydrophobic surfaces of the solid-supported phthalocyanines. The adsorption isotherms (298 K) were of the Langmuir-type with saturation plateau. The effective thickness of the adsorbed layers at the plateau regions was estimated at 0.17 nm (F16PcZn) and 0.47 nm (F64PcZn), which, assuming the face-down orientation of phthalocyanines, corresponded to ∼52 and ∼77% of the complete monolayers, respectively. In the case of F64PcZn, the state of the adsorbed molecules was similar to that of bulk F64PcZn, suggesting only weak adsorption interactions of dispersive type. In contrast, F16PcZn showed strong interactions with the surface of titania including the dissociation of C-F bonds, i.e., chemisorption. The difference in the adsorption interactions of F16PcZn vs F64PcZn was attributed to the presence of eight i-C3F7 groups decorating the perimeter of the F64PcZn molecule. These bulky substituents in the peripheral positions sterically protected the nonperipheral fluorine atoms, thereby preventing their substitution and any other specific interactions between the macrocycle and the surface OH groups.

Abstract
Porphyrins are variously substituted tetrapyrrolic macrocycles, with wide-ranging biological and chemical applications derived from metal chelation in the core and the 18π aromatic surface. Under suitable conditions, the porphyrin framework can deform significantly from regular planar shape, owing to steric overload on the porphyrin periphery or steric repulsion in the core, among other structure modulation strategies. Adopting this nonplanar porphyrin architecture allows guest molecules to interact directly with an exposed core, with guest-responsive and photoactive electronic states of the porphyrin allowing energy, information, atom and electron transfer within and between these species. This functionality can be incorporated and tuned by decoration of functional groups and electronic modifications, with individual deformation profiles adapted to specific key sensing and catalysis applications. Nonplanar porphyrins are assisting breakthroughs in molecular recognition, organo- and photoredox catalysis; simultaneously bio-inspired and distinctly synthetic, these molecules offer a new dimension in shape-responsive host-guest chemistry. In this review, we have summarized the synthetic methods and design aspects of nonplanar porphyrin formation, key properties, structure and functionality of the nonplanar aromatic framework, and the scope and utility of this emerging class towards outstanding scientific, industrial and environmental issues.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of zinc(II) meso-pyridin-2-ylthio-porphyrins are presented in this manuscript. The (electro)chemical oxidation of [5-(pyridin-2-ylthio)-10,20-bis(p-tolyl)-15-phenylporphyrinato] zinc(II) or [5,15-bis(pyridin-2-ylthio)-10,20-bis(p-tolyl)porphyrinato] zinc(II) leads to the formation of one or two C-N bond(s) by intramolecular nucleophilic attack of the peripheral thiopyridinyl fragment(s) on the neighboring β-pyrrolic position(s) (C-N fusion reaction). In addition, the chemical oxidation of [5-(pyridin-2-ylthio)-10,20-bis(p-tolyl)porphyrinato] zinc(II), i.e., bearing one free meso position, mainly affords the meso,meso-dimer. Further stepwise electrochemical oxidation selectively produces the mono and bis C-N fused meso,meso-dimer. The resulting pyridinium derivatives exhibit important changes in their physicochemical properties (NMR, UV-vis, CV) as compared to their initial unfused precursors. Also, the X-ray crystallographic structures of three unfused monomers, one unfused meso,meso-dimer, and two C-N fused monomers are presented.

Abstract
This review summarizes the data on the stereochemical structure of functionalized azoles (pyrazoles, imidazoles, triazoles, thiazoles, and benzazoles) and related compounds obtained by multipulse and multinuclear 1H, 13C, 15N NMR spectroscopy and quantum chemistry. The stereochemistry of functionalized azoles is a challenging topic of theoretical research, as the correct interpretation of their chemical behavior and biological activity depends on understanding the factors that determine the stereochemical features and relative stability of their tautomers. NMR spectroscopy, in combination with quantum chemical calculations, is the most convenient and reliable approach to the evaluation of the stereochemical behavior of, in particular, nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic and heterocyclic compounds. Over the last decade, 15N NMR spectroscopy has become almost an express method for the determination of the structure of nitrogen-containing heterocycles.

Abstract
Confusion is a novel concept of isomerism in porphyrin chemistry, delivering a steady stream of new chemistry since the discovery of N-confused porphyrin, a porphyrin mutant, in 1994. These days, the number of confused porphyrinoids is increasing, and confusion and associated fusion are found in various fields such as supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry, biological chemistry, and catalysts. In this review, the birth and growth of confused porphyrinoids in the last three decades are described.

Abstract
Tetraphyrins(1.1.1.1) (Porphyrins) were merged with amino acids forming a direct bond between a meso-position of macrocycle and a nitrogen available in the side chain of the amino acid. The following intramolecular fusion observed for a free base porphyrin forms a structure with extended [Formula: see text]-delocalisation on the additional carbocyclic fragment, that substantially modifies the observed absorption and emission. A further modulation of electron behaviour has been observed for a deprotonated form of the fused system. A nitrogen atom introduced into the system can be treated as a switching factor that controls the delocalisation significantly influencing the emission by shifting between the available amine and imine tautomeric forms.

Abstract
In contrast to the extensive development of meso functionalization of porphyrins, that of corroles has been only rarely explored until the development of practical synthetic methods of meso -free corroles in 2015. Ready availability of meso -free corroles opened up meso -functionalization chemistry of corroles, giving rise to successful synthesis of various meso-substituted corroles such as meso -halogen, meso -nitro, meso -amino, meso -oxo, and meso iminocorroles as well as meso-meso linked corrole dimers and corrole tapes. In some cases, 2NH corroles existed as stable or transient radical species. The impacts of meso -functionalization on the structures, electronic properties, optical characteristics, and aromaticity are highlighted in this Minireview.

Abstract
Porphyrins and related macrocycles have been studied broadly for their applications in medicine and materials because of their tunable physicochemical, optoelectronic and magnetic properties. In this review article, we focused on the applications of fluorinated porphyrinoids and their supramolecular systems and summarized the reports published on these chromophores in the past 5-6 years. The commercially available fluorinated porphyrinoids: meso-perfluorophenylporphyrin (TPPF20 ) perfluorophthalocyanine (PcF16 ) and meso-perfluorophenylcorrole (CorF15 ) have increased photo and oxidative stability due to the presence of fluoro groups. Because of their tunable properties and robustness toward oxidative damage these porphyrinoid-based chromophores continue to gain attention of researchers developing advanced functional materials for applications such as sensors, photonic devices, component for solar cells, biomedical imaging, theranostics and catalysts.
