Abstract
It is shown that the operating temperature of pellistors for the detection of methane can be reduced to 300 °C by using Au-Pd nanoparticles on mesoporous cobalt oxide (Au-Pd@meso-Co3O4). The aim is to reduce possible catalyst poisoning that occurs during the high-temperature operation of conventional Pd-based pellistors, which are usually operated at 450 °C or higher. The individual role of Au-Pd as well as Co3O4 in terms of their catalytic activity has been investigated. Above 300 °C, Au-Pd bimetallic particles are mainly responsible for the catalytic combustion of methane. However, below 300 °C, only the Co3O4 has a catalytic effect. In contrast to methane, the sensor response and the temperature increase of the sensor under propane exposure is much larger than for methane due to the larger heat of combustion of propane. Due to its lower activation energy requirement, propane exhibits a higher propensity for oxidation compared to methane. As a result, the detection of propane can be achieved at even lower temperatures due to its enhanced reactivity.

Abstract
5-Hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) is an intermediate produced by dehydrating sugars, such as fructose, sucrose, and glucose, in an acidic medium or during the Maillard reaction. It also occurs due to the storage of sugary foods at inappropriate temperatures. In addition, HMF is seen as a quality criterion in products. In this study, a novel molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on graphene quantum dots incorporated NiAl2O4 (GQDs-NiAl2O4) nanocomposite was presented for the selective determination of HMF in coffee samples. Various microscopic, spectroscopic, and electrochemical methods were carried out for the structural characterizations of GQDs-NiAl2O4 nanocomposite. The molecularly imprinted sensor was prepared by multi-scanning using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in the presence of 100.0 mM pyrrole monomer and 25.0 mM HMF. After method optimization, the sensor revealed linearity towards HMF in the range of 1.0-10.0 ng L-1 with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.30 ng L-1. The developed MIP sensor's high repeatability, selectivity, stability, and fast response ability can provide reliable HMF detection in beverages, such as coffee, which is heavily consumed.

Abstract
MoS2-GO composites were fabricated by an ultrasonication method at room temperature. Raman spectra, emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images were used to study the structural characteristics, morphologies, and sizes of the synthesized materials. An MoS2-GO/SPE (screen-printed electrode) was prepared by a facile dropping method and acted as an effective electrochemical sensor toward clenbuterol (CLB) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) detection. Based on the obtained results, the influence of analyte molecular structure on the adsorption ability and electronic interoperability between the targeted analyte and electrode surface were investigated in detail and discussed as well, through some electrochemical kinetic parameters (electron/proton-transfer number, electron transfer rate constant (ks), charge transfer coefficient, and adsorption capacity (Γ)). In particular, it should be stressed that 4-NP molecules possess a simple molecular structure with many positive effects (electronic, conjugation, and small steric effects) and flexible functional groups, resulting in fast electron transport/charge diffusion and effective adsorption process as well as strong interactions with the electrode surface. Therefore, 4-NP molecules have been facilitated better in electrochemical reactions at the electrode surface and electrode-electrolyte interfaces, leading to improved current response and electrochemical sensing performance, compared with those of CLB.

Abstract
Prostatic specific antigen (PSA) is known as a biomarker of prostate cancer. In males, prostate cancer is ranked second as leading cause of death out of more than 200 different cancer types1. As a result, early detection of cancer can cause a significant reduction in mortality. PSA concentration directly is related to prostate cancer, so normal serum concentrations in healthy means are 4 ng and above 10 ng as abnormal concentration. Therefore, PSA determination is important to cancer progression. In this study, a free label electrochemical immunosensor was prepared based on a new green platform for the quantitative detection of the PSA. The used platform was formed from quince seed mucilage containing green gold and silver nanoparticles and synthesized by the green method (using Calendula officinalis L. extract). The quince mucilage biopolymer was used as a sub layer to assemble nanoparticles and increase the electrochemical performance. This nanocomposite was used to increase the antibody loading and accelerate the electron transfer, which can increase the biosensor sensitivity. The antibodies of the PSA biomarker were successfully incubated on the green platform. Under the optimal conditions, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was proportional to the PSA biomarker concentration from 0.1 pg mL-1 to 100 ng mL-1 with low limit of detection (0.078 pg mL-1). The proposed green immunosensor exhibited high stability and reproducibility, which can be used for the quantitative assay of the PSA biomarker in clinical analyses. The results of real sample analysis presented another tool for the PSA biomarker detection in physiologic models.

Abstract
In direct methanol fuel cell technology, highly stable electrochemical catalysts are critically important for their practical utilization at the commercial scale. In this study, sub ~10 nm hollow Pt-Ni (1:1 at. ratio) nanoboxes supported on functionalized Vulcan carbon (Pt-Ni/C-R2) were synthesized through a facile method for the efficient electrooxidation of methanol. Two reaction procedures, namely, a simultaneous reduction and a modified sequential reduction method using a reverse microemulsion (RME) method, were adopted to synthesize solid Pt-Ni NPs and hollow nanoboxes, respectively. To correlate the alloy composition and surface structure with the enhanced catalytic activity, the results were compared with the nanocatalyst synthesized using a conventional NaBH4 reduction method. The calculated electroactive surface area for the Pt-Ni/C-R2 nanoboxes was 190.8 m2.g-1, which is significantly higher compared to that of the Pt-Ni nanocatalyst (96.4 m2.g-1) synthesized by a conventional reduction method. Hollow nanoboxes showed 34% and 44% increases in mass activity and rate of methanol oxidation reaction, respectively, compared to solid NPs. These results support the nanoreactor confinement effect of the hollow nanoboxes. The experimental results were supported by Density Functional Theory (DFT) studies, which revealed that the lowest CO poisoning of the Pt1Ni1 catalyst among all Ptm-Nin mixing ratios may account for the enhanced methanol oxidation. The synthesized hollow Pt-Ni/C (R2) nanoboxes may prove to be a valuable and highly efficient catalysts for the electrochemical oxidation of methanol due to their low cost, numerous catalytically active sites, low carbon monoxide poisoning, large electroactive surface area and long-term stability.

Abstract
Hierarchically structured 3-dimensional electrodes based on branched carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are prepared on a glassy carbon (GC) substrate in a sequence of electrodeposition and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) steps as follows: Primary CNTs are grown over electrodeposited iron by CVD followed by a second Fe deposition and finally the CVD growth of secondary CNTs. The prepared 3-dimensional CNT structures (CNT/CNT/GC) exhibit enhanced double-layer capacitance and thus larger surface area compared to CNT/GC. Pt electrodeposition onto both types of electrodes yields a uniform and homogeneous Pt nanoparticle distribution. Each preparation step is followed by scanning electron microscopy, while the CNTs were additionally characterized by Raman spectroscopy. In this way it is demonstrated that by varying the parameters during the electrodeposition and CVD steps, a tuning of the structural parameters of the hierarchical electrodes is possible. The suitability of the hierarchical electrodes for electrocatalytic applications is demonstrated using the methanol electro-oxidation as a test reaction. The Pt mass specific activity towards methanol oxidation of Pt-CNT/CNT/GC is approximately 2.5 times higher than that of Pt-CNT/GC, and the hierarchical electrode exhibits a more negative onset potential. Both structures demonstrate an exceptionally high poisoning tolerance.

Abstract
Cheap and high-performance electrocatalysts are required for fuel cells. Herein, we present the application of three-dimensional (3D) catalyst systems for electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid and methanol. These systems consist of cost-effective boron-doped expanded graphite (B-EG) as the support and palladium nanoparticles (NPs) or platinum/palladium bimetal NPs as the catalysts. The characterization of these 3D catalyst systems using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, and electrochemical techniques reveals that stable and efficient electrocatalytic methanol oxidation, achieved in a 3D catalyst system of B-EG and PdPt bimetal NPs (with a mass ratio of 1 : 1), is due to its big surface area, high conductivity, and an enhanced amount of exposed active sites from bimetal NPs. This price-reduced, stable, and efficient 3D catalyst system is thus promising to be employed for a large scale production of industrial direct methanol fuel cells.

Abstract
In this study, the proposed adsorbent composed of graphene oxide (GO) functionalized by magnetic nanoparticles of iron oxide (α-γ-Fe2O3) was obtained by a simple ultrasonication process. This new material was used for the removal of glyphosate in water. The nanoparticulated iron oxide used was synthesized by means of a modified sol-gel method, which does not use organic solvents. The adsorbent material (GO-α-γ-Fe2O3) obtained was characterized by magnetic measurements, and it can be proved that it has superparamagnetic properties, allowing fast and efficient magnetic separation. The equilibrium time for the adsorption of glyphosate when using GO-α-γ-Fe2O3 was 2 hours and the maximum removal was 92% at 15°C, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 46.8 mg g-1. Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model correlated satisfactorily to the experimental data. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of glyphosate on GO-α-γ-Fe2O3 was spontaneous, exothermic and thermodynamically favorable at temperature of 15-45°C. Thus the adsorbent material GO-α-γ-Fe2O3 proposed in this study is considered a good candidate to be used in the removal of glyphosate from aqueous solutions, presenting high adsorption capacity, low cost and magnetic properties that facilitate the separation of the adsorbent material.

Abstract
In this study, chemical vapor deposition-synthesized heteroatom graphene (HGr) bioelectronic interfaces have been developed for ultrafast, all-electronic detection and analysis of molecules by driving them through tiny holes-or atompores-in a thin lattice of the graphene sheet, including the efforts toward facilitating enhanced electrocatalytic and mapping electron transport activities. The presence of chlorine, nitrogen, and oxygen in the crystalline graphitic layers (<7) has been confirmed using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. We report a swift bioelectrocatalytic response to step-by-step additions of the substrate with the achievement of a steady current within a few seconds. The response limit was 2.07 μM with a dynamic range of sensing from 2.07 μM to 2.97 mM. The electronic properties and adsorption energies of hydroquinone and p-benzophenone molecule adsorption on pristine, O-, N-, and Cl-doped graphene nanosheet surfaces were systematically investigated using first-principles calculations. The results revealed that the adsorption capacity was improved upon doping graphene nanosheets with O, N, and Cl atoms. Hence, Cl-doped graphene nanosheets were shown as a promising adsorbent toward hydroquinone and p-benzophenone detection.

Abstract
The simultaneous electrochemical determination of myricetin and rutin remains a challenge due to their indistinguishable potentials. To solve this problem, we constructed a ternary platinum nanoparticle, reduced graphene oxide, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Pt@r-GO@MWCNTs) nanocomposite via a facile one-pot synthetic method. Under the optimized conditions, the ternary Pt@r-GO@MWCNTs nanocomposite exhibited good electrocatalytic activity toward myricetin and rutin via solid phase extraction and excellent performance for the simultaneous determination of myricetin and rutin. The oxidation peak current of myricetin was proportional to its concentrations in the range of 0.05–50 μM with a detection limit of 0.01 μM (S/N = 3). The linear range for rutin was 0.05–50 μM with a detection limit of 0.005 μM (S/N = 3). The ternary nanocomposite sensor also exhibited good reproducibility and stability, and was successfully used for the simultaneous determination of myricetin and rutin in real orange juice samples with recoveries ranging between 100.57% and 108.46%.

Abstract
Background:
Until now, several methods such as spectroscopic methods and chromatographic
techniques have been developed for the determination of biomolecules, drug or heavy metals.
Nevertheless, the crucial interference problems are present in these methods. Due to these reasons,
more sensitive, favorable portability, low-cost, simple and selective sensors based on nanocomposites
are needed in terms of health safety. In the development of electrochemical nanosensor, the nanomaterials
such as graphene/graphene oxide, carbon and carbon nitride nanotubes are utilized to improve
the sensitivity.
Objective:
The nanomaterials such as graphene/graphene oxide, carbon and carbon nitride nanotubes
have important advantages such as high surface area, electrical conductivity, thermal and mechanical
stability. Hence, we presented the highly selective methods for sensitive sensor applications by molecular
imprinting technology in literature. This technology is a polymerization method around target
molecule. This method provides the specific cavities to analyte molecule on the polymer surface.
Hence, the selective sensor is easily created for biomedical and other applications. Novel electrochemical
sensors based on nanocomposite whose surface is coated with Molecular Imprinting Polymer
(MIP) are developed and then applied to the selective and sensitive detection in this study. Until now,
we have presented several reports about nanocomposite based sensor with MIP.

Abstract
β-Agonists are illegally consumed in various products such as food and animal and effect the nutrition distribution owing to change of body fat. In addition, they result in acute poisoning and several symptoms such as muscular tremors and nervousness. A new electrochemical approach based on two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (2D-hBN) nanosheets decorated functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) was presented for simultaneous determination of β-agonists such as phenylethanolamine A (PEA), clenbuterol (CLE), ractopamine (RAC) and salbutamol (SAL) in urine samples. X-ray diffraction (XRD) method, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used characterizations of nanomaterials. After that, 2D-hBN/f-MWCNTs nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was prepared for simultaneous determination of β-agonists. 1.0 × 10-12-1.0 × 10-8 M and 1.0 × 10-13 M were founded as the linearity range and the detection limit (LOD) for PEA, CLE, RAC and SAL. Finally, the prepared electrochemical sensor was used for urine sample analysis in presence of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA).

Abstract
The cardiac Troponin-I (cTnI) is one of the subunits of cardiac troponin complexes and a pivotal biochemical marker of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Due to its myocardial specificity, cTnI is widely used for the diagnosis of AMI diseases. In this study, a novel imprinted biosensor approach based on boron nitride quantum dots (BNQDs) was presented for cTnI detection in plasma samples. Various characterization methods such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used for all characterizations of nanomaterials. After the characterization analysis, cTnI imprinted electrode was developed in the presence of 100.0 mM pyrrole containing 25.0 mM cTnI. After that, the analytical studies of cTnI in plasma samples were performed by using cTnI imprinted biosensor. The results of the study have revealed that 0.01-5.00 ng mL-1 and 0.0005 ng mL-1 were found as the linearity range and the detection limit (LOD). Moreover, the selectivity of cTnI imprinted glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was investigated for plasma sample analysis in the presence of other nonspecific and specific proteins including cardiac myoglobin (MYG), bovine serum albumin (BSA) and cardiac troponin T (cTnT), respectively. Furthermore, the prepared biosensor was examined in terms of stability, repeatability, reproducibility and reusability. Finally, the imprinted biosensor was applied to the plasma samples having high recovery.

Abstract
The colorimetric biosensors have attracted intensive interest; however, their relatively low sensitivity limits their applications in clinic detection. Herein, we develop an effective colorimetric biosensor based on highly catalytic active Au nanoparticle-decorated Bi2Se3 (Au/Bi2Se3) nanosheets. Au/Bi2Se3 nanosheets are facilely synthesized by simply sonicating Au precursor with the as-synthesized Bi2Se3 nanosheets in aqueous solution. Because of the low redox potential and typical topological insulating properties, Bi2Se3 nanosheets is capable of providing and accumulating electrons on its surface. Such unique properties of Bi2Se3 nanosheets contribute to strong synergistic catalytic effects with Au nanoparticles, particularly when Au/Bi2Se3 nanosheets are utilized for catalyzing the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) by NaBH4 (K = 386.67 s-1g-1). The excellent catalytic activity of Au/Bi2Se3 nanosheets can be "switched off" upon treatment of antibody of cancer biomarker such as anticarcinoembryonic antibody (anti-CEA). Addition of the corresponding antigen such as cancer biomarker carcinoembryonic antibody (CEA) can successively help "switch on" the catalytic activity of Au/Bi2Se3 nanosheets, where the resuming degree however depends on the antigen concentration. This cancer biomarker depended catalytic behavior therefore allows Au/Bi2Se3 nanosheets to be employed as a colorimetric sensor for detection of a particular cancer biomarker, for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) by NaBH4 itself involves apparent color change. The sensor shows high sensitivity and selectivity for the cancer biomarker, even for a concentration as low as 160 pg/mL for CEA, which fully satisfies the requirement for real clinical applications. The developed colorimetric sensor shows good generality for detection of different types of cancer biomarkers, such as α-fetoprotein (AFP) and prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Furthermore, real clinic sample analyzing result shows that the prepared biosensor is efficient for detection of CEA, providing an alternative method in cancer diagnosis.

Abstract
Nanocomposite of gold nanocages and chemically modified graphene oxide (GNCs/CMG) was synthesized in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) for sensitive detection of dopamine (DA). DA is widely spread in central nervous system which can regulates essential body functions like movement and emotional behaviour. In this regard sensitive and fast detection of DA level in human body is still challenging considering its interference with other biomolecules in biological samples. CMG was synthesized through amine modification of graphene oxide (GO) with DMF at relatively high temperature followed by attachment of GNCs, fabricated using a galvanic replacement between silver nanocubes and HAuCl4 solution in the DMF. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of GNCs/CMG nanocomposite revealed high crystallization of GNCs attached to the graphene nanosheets and microscopic images revealed relatively uniform decoration of GNCs on the surface of CMG. Nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode (GNCs/CMG/GCE) was used to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of DA with cyclic voltammetry and amperometry techniques. The linear range for dopamine was between 0.1 and 80μM with a low detection limit of 0.02μM. Furthermore, GNCs/CMG/GCE exhibited satisfying reproducibility, long-term stability and high selectivity for DA detection in large amount of ascorbic acid with good results for determination in human serum samples.
