Abstract
Highly functionalized 5-trifluoromethyl-2-isoxazoline derivatives featuring a triflyl (SO2CF3) group at the 4-position were successfully synthesized via diastereoselective trifluoromethylation and halogenation of isoxazole triflones using the Ruppert- Prakash reagent. The trifluoromethylation is quite general in terms of the substrates including 3,5-diaryl isoxazole triflones and 3-aryl-5-styrylisoxazole triflones to provide products in high yields with excellent diastereoselectivities. The highly functionalized 5-trifluoromethyl-2-isoxazoline derivatives are expected to be a new class of antiparasiticides. Thus the triflyl group both activates isoxazoles and the 4-postion of CF3 adducts, and has a potential biological function.

Abstract
2-styrylbenzothiazole (1) and cinnamic acid (2) derivatives containing 15-crown-5 ether moieties form a supramolecular assembly in the presence of Ba(2+) cations in acetonitrile. The assembly is stabilized by hydrogen bonding between the heterocyclic N atom of 1 and the proton of the carboxylic group of 2, by sandwich Ba(2+) complex formation between the crown ether moieties of 1 and 2, and by pi-pi stacking interactions. Irradiation of solutions containing these supramolecular complexes leads to highly specific formation of an unsymmetrical cycloadduct. This investigation provides an interesting example of supramolecular control of [2 + 2]-photocyclization in solution.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A novel oxidative photodehydrocyclization of indolinylphenylethenes to a polycyclic heteroaromatic cation with good yields was described. Starting from the trans derivative, the phototransformation is a multistep process. The process includes two photochemical reactions and a trans-cis isomerization reaction, followed by an 1-aza-1,3,5-hexatrienic electrocyclic reaction involving the formation of a C-N bond. The cyclized product gives the stable heteroaromatic cations from hydride elimination with oxygen from air or iodine.
