Abstract
PURPOSE Intraoral hair growth is a debilitating side effect of flap or graft-based oropharyngeal reconstruction. There is no standardized treatment, but groups have successfully eradicated unwanted hair growth with intraoral laser hair removal. This scoping review assesses the utility of laser therapy in managing this condition. METHODS This scoping review followed PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Ovid Medline, Embase (Ovid) and Scopus were queried using index terms and keywords. Resulting articles were reviewed for inclusion by two independent reviewers against inclusion criteria and relevant data were extracted. RESULTS The literature search yielded 297 articles, 22 of which met inclusion criteria. In total, 77 patients were treated: 38 patients with an Alexandrite laser, 19 with an Nd:YAG laser, 18 with a diode laser, and two with a CO2 laser. Complete response defined as 80% or more reduction in hair count was achieved in 70 patients (90%) and six patients (8%) achieved a partial response (10%-79% reduction in hair count). One patient (1%) with gray hair saw less than a 10% reduction in hair count. On average, 3.84 treatment sessions were needed, spaced 5.4 weeks apart. Treatments were well tolerated without major side effects. CONCLUSIONS This is the first scoping review assessing the utility of intraoral laser hair therapy and suggests it may be a safe and effective treatment. However, surgeons should advise preoperative hair removal when clinically feasible to mitigate this side effect as much as possible.

Abstract
A postextraction socket becomes a clinical challenge due to the fact that a series of changes associated with bone remodelling and resorption of the socket that occur after extraction, which limits the aesthetic and functional prognosis of implant-supported rehabilitations. It has been studied that the use of the autologous tooth-derived graft (ATDG) has regenerative properties and could therefore be useful for solving this type of problem. There is no consensus in the scientific literature on a standardized protocol for the use of the autologous tooth. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the most relevant parameters to achieve the best properties of ground ATDG using three methods, namely Gouge forceps, electric grinder, and manual, that made up the study group (SG) and compared with the control group (CG) consisting of Bio-Oss®. The sample obtained by the electric grinder had the highest value of specific surface area (2.4025 ± 0.0218 m2/g), while the particle size as average diameter (751.9 µm) was the lowest and most homogeneous of the three groups. Therefore, the electric grinder allowed for obtaining ATDG with more regenerative properties due to its specific surface-area value and particle size in accordance with the xenograft with the greatest bibliographical support (Bio-Oss®). The higher specific surface increases the reaction with the physiological media, producing faster biological mechanisms.

Abstract
Importance: Laser hair removal is a noninvasive technique that has been used for patients with oropharyngolaryngeal hair growth related to surgical flap reconstruction after head and neck cancer resection. The purpose of this work was to perform a rapid review of the literature to determine the therapeutic relevance of laser hair removal and identify laser parameters. Observations: A total of 10 publications addressing depilation of the head and neck sphere were selected and analyzed. Conclusions and Relevance: Laser therapy appears to be a promising treatment for hair removal from flaps with few side effects. However, there is no scientific basis for a standardized protocol or determination of the superiority of laser hair removal over another treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For decades, regenerative medicine and dentistry have been improved with new therapies and innovative clinical protocols. The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate through a critical review the recent innovations in the field of bone regeneration with a focus on the healing potentials and clinical protocols of bone substitutes combined with engineered constructs, growth factors and photobiomodulation applications. METHODS A Boolean systematic search was conducted by PubMed/Medline, PubMed/Central, Web of Science and Google scholar databases according to the PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS After the initial screening, a total of 304 papers were considered eligible for the qualitative synthesis. The articles included were categorized according to the main topics: alloplastic bone substitutes, autologous teeth derived substitutes, xenografts, platelet-derived concentrates, laser therapy, microbiota and bone metabolism and mesenchymal cells construct. CONCLUSIONS The effectiveness of the present investigation showed that the use of biocompatible and bio-resorbable bone substitutes are related to the high-predictability of the bone regeneration protocols, while the oral microbiota and systemic health of the patient produce a clinical advantage for the long-term success of the regeneration procedures and implant-supported restorations. The use of growth factors is able to reduce the co-morbidity of the regenerative procedure ameliorating the post-operative healing phase. The LLLT is an adjuvant protocol to improve the soft and hard tissues response for bone regeneration treatment protocols.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thermography is a diagnostic method based on the ability to record infrared radiation emitted by the skin and is unique in its ability to accurately show physiological and/or pathological cutaneous temperature changes in a non-invasive way. This method can be used to indirectly assess changes or impairments in cutaneous perfusion. Significant technological advancements have allowed thermography to be more commonly utilized by clinicians, yet a basic consensus of patient characteristics that may affect temperature recordings is not established. MATERIALS AND METHODS We evaluated cutaneous temperature in a cohort of outpatients to understand what factors, including tobacco use and other high-risk characteristics, contribute to cutaneous tissue perfusion as measured by thermography. Participants were prospectively enrolled if they were a combustible cigarette smoker, an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) user, or a never smoker. Standardized thermographic images of the subject's facial profiles, forearms, and calves were taken and demographic characteristics, medical comorbidities, and tobacco product use were assessed. These variables were statistically tested for associations with temperature at each anatomic site. RESULTS We found that gender had a significant effect on thermographic temperature that differed by anatomic site, and we found a lack of significant difference in thermographic temperature by race. Our regression analysis did not support significant differences in thermographic temperatures across smoking groups, while there was a trend for decreased perfusion in smokers relative to non-smokers and e-cigarette users relative to non-smokers. CONCLUSION Thermographic imaging is a useful tool for clinical and research use with consideration of sex and other perfusion-affecting characteristics.

Abstract
Background: marijuana, the common name for cannabis sativa preparations, is one of the most consumed drug all over the world, both at therapeutical and recreational levels. With the legalization of medical uses of cannabis in many countries, and even its recreational use in most of these, the prevalence of marijuana use has markedly risen over the last decade. At the same time, there is also a higher prevalence in the health concerns related to cannabis use and abuse. Thus, it is mandatory for oral healthcare operators to know and deal with the consequences and effects of cannabis use on oral cavity health. This review will briefly summarize the components of cannabis and the endocannabinoid system, as well as the cellular and molecular mechanisms of biological cannabis action in human cells and biologic activities on tissues. We will also look into oropharyngeal tissue expression of cannabinoid receptors, together with a putative association of cannabis to several oral diseases. Therefore, this review will elaborate the basic biology and physiology of cannabinoids in human oral tissues with the aim of providing a better comprehension of the effects of its use and abuse on oral health, in order to include cannabinoid usage into dental patient health records as well as good medicinal practice. Methods: the paper selection was performed by PubMed/Medline and EMBASE electronic databases, and reported according to the PRISMA guidelines. The scientific products were included for qualitative analysis. Results: the paper search screened a total of 276 papers. After the initial screening and the eligibility assessment, a total of 32 articles were considered for the qualitative analysis. Conclusions: today, cannabis consumption has been correlated to a higher risk of gingival and periodontal disease, oral infection and cancer of the oral cavity, while the physico-chemical activity has not been completely clarified. Further investigations are necessary to evaluate a therapeutic efficacy of this class of drugs for the promising treatment of several different diseases of the salivary glands and oral diseases.

Abstract
NIR-II fluorescence imaging-guided photothermal therapy is a potential tumor therapeutic that has exhibited accurate diagnosis and noninvasive therapy of tumors. Here, we developed an organic macromolecular nanoparticle (PFD) by encapsulating a fluorophore with an amphiphilic polypeptide. The PFD nanoparticle presented a uniform size of 70 nm with a slightly negative charge and exhibited superior photothermal conversion efficiency (40.69%), thermal imaging ability, and considerable photothermal stability. The PFD nanoparticle could accumulate at the tumor site by an enhanced penetration and retention effect and exhibited satisfactory fluorescence imaging and prominent photothermal inhibition effect. In vivo experiments demonstrated that PFD nanoparticles exhibited a prominent photothermal inhibition effect against the tumor. Meanwhile, the therapeutic procedure was monitored by both NIR-II fluorescence and infrared thermal imaging, which demonstrated that the PFD nanoparticles have a potential application in imaging-guided photothermal therapy of tumors.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to describe the successful epilation of intraoral grafts using the diode laser system. METHODS AND RESULTS Two male patients at a 12-month follow-up - who underwent radical resection of oral cancer located in the mouth floor and tongue followed by reconstruction with cutaneous flap - showed hypertrichosis in the graft region, leading to dysphagia and dysphonia. The diode (980 nm) laser was performed for both cases in order to remove the ectopic hair. Excellent aesthetic and functional outcomes with total hair removal and alteration of the tissue surface were achieved. CONCLUSIONS There is no currently standard protocol for the laser epilation use on hairy grafts because each graft required a different number of sessions for total epilation. The diode laser system appears to be a successful therapeutic option for patients suffering from hypertrichrosis in the oral cavity.

Abstract
PURPOSE Wound healing of postextraction sockets is a complex process that permits to reach the bone reformation in about 3 months, and that could be characterized by the presence of some complications, mainly dependent on the duration of the surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of photobiomodulation (PBMT) on the healing processes of mucosa overlying postextraction alveolus and on related complications. METHODS Twenty systemically healthy patients who needed to extract both lower third molars were selected in a private clinic and included in this prospective split-mouth randomized clinical trial. Inclusion criteria were no smokers subjects with the necessity to extract both lower third molars with surgeries overlapping for duration and difficulty. A computer-based randomization procedure was permitted to choose the side, subject to PBMT, by means of a neodymium-doped YAG (Nd: YAG) laser (test) and controls. Both surgeries were performed by the same operator with a gap of 40 days. Twenty-two days after each surgery, a biopsy in correspondence to the alveolar mucosa of the socket was obtained from both sites and observed with an optical microscope and analyzed with histomorphometric analysis and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS Each of the 20 participants included in this study (11 women and 9 men, nonsmokers, mean age 16 years in the range of 15 to 17 years) were subjected to the extraction of both lower third molars, and a side was treated as control, the other, as the test. The histomorphometric analysis and immunohistochemistry showed that the tested sites, contrary to controls, were characterized by a lower presence of inflammatory cells, a more mature epithelium and myofibroblasts incorporated in a network of fibers parallel to the basal membrane, with little positivity to alpha-SMA antibodies and anti-myosin but positivity to anti-desmin. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, PBMT accelerates the healing process of postextraction alveolus after third molar extraction.

Abstract
Individual respiratory protective devices and face masks represent critical tools in protecting health care workers in hospitals and clinics, and play a central role in decreasing the spread of the high-risk pandemic infection of 2019, coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The aim of the present study was to compare the facial skin temperature and the heat flow when wearing medical surgical masks to the same factors when wearing N95 respirators. A total of 20 subjects were recruited and during the evaluation, each subject was invited to wear a surgical mask or respirator for 1 h. The next day in the morning at the same hour, the same subject wore a N95 mask for 1 h with the same protocol. Infrared thermal evaluation was performed to measure the facial temperature of the perioral region and the perception ratings related to the humidity, heat, breathing difficulty, and discomfort were recorded. A significant difference in heat flow and perioral region temperature was recorded between the surgical mask and the N95 respirator (p < 0.05). A statistically significant difference in humidity, heat, breathing difficulty, and discomfort was present between the groups. The study results suggest that N95 respirators are able to induce an increased facial skin temperature, greater discomfort and lower wearing adherence when compared to the medical surgical masks.
