Abstract
The one-pot terpolymerization of epoxide (EP), anhydride (AH), and CO2 to synthesize polyester-polycarbonate copolymers with precise sequences remains a significant challenge in polymer chemistry. In this study, promising progress was achieved by utilizing a cyclic trimeric phosphazene base (CTPB) and triethylboron (TEB) as a binary catalyst, enabling the synthesis of both well-defined block and truly random poly(ester-carbonate) copolymers through the one-pot terpolymerization of EP/AH/CO2. By adjusting the molar ratio of CTPB/TEB to 1/0.5, remarkable chemoselectivity for ring-opening alternating copolymerization (ROAC) of propylene oxide (PO) and phthalic anhydride (PA) was achieved, followed by the ROAC of PO/CO2. This sequential control allowed for the synthesis of well-defined block poly(ester-carbonate) copolymers, containing three possible sequences, ester-ester sequence (EE)/ester-carbonate sequence (EC)/carbonate-carbonate sequence (CC) = 59/4/37, from a mixture of PO, PA, and CO2. Moreover, the versatility of this CTPB/TEB catalyst in regulating chemoselectivity was demonstrated, with a ratio of 1/3 facilitating the simultaneous ROAC of PO/PA and PO/CO2 with compatible rates, resulting in the production of random poly(ester-carbonate) copolymers, in which three possible sequences (EE/EC/CC = 26/50/24) are very close to theoretical values. This metal-free catalytic system and its flexible chemoselectivity regulation strategy proved to be applicable to a wide range of epoxides (PO, cyclohexene oxide (CHO)) and anhydrides (PA, diglycolic anhydride (DGA), and succinic anhydride (SA)), enabling the successful synthesis of poly(ester-carbonate) copolymers with diverse sequences and compositions.

Abstract
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer with versatile applications in packaging and medicine. It is derived from lactic acid and thus represents an eco-friendly option sourced from renewable raw materials. Despite its advantages, PLA exhibits few drawbacks, such as brittleness and relatively high melting and glass transition temperatures. However, these limitations can be addressed through copolymerization with other monomers like ε-caprolactone (ε-CL), resulting in a composite material with improved physical properties. This paper comprehensively reviews achievements in PLA-PCL copolymerization using organometallic catalysts, discussing scientific findings and various copolymer architectures obtained, including random or block configurations. It also demonstrates various sustainable catalysts for achieving the required microstructure under mild reaction conditions without the aid of any external initiator.

Abstract
A series of novel lanthanum amido complexes, supported by ligands designed around the salan framework (salan = N,N'-bis(o-hydroxy, m-di-tert-butylbenzyl)-1,2-diaminoethane) were synthesized and fully characterized in the solid and solution states. The ligands incorporate benzyl or 2-pyridyl substituents at each tertiary amine center. The complexes were investigated as catalysts in the ring-opening homopolymerization of lactide (LA) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and copolymerization of equimolar amounts of LA and ε-CL at ambient temperature. Solvent (THF or toluene) and the number of 2-pyridyl groups in the complex were found to influence the reactivity of the catalysts in copolymerization reactions. In all cases, complete conversion of LA to PLA was observed. The use of THF, a coordinating solvent, suppressed ε-CL polymerization, while the presence of one or more 2-pyridyl groups promoted ε-CL polymerization. Each copolymer gave a monomodal trace in gel permeation chromatography-size-exclusion chromatography (GPC-SEC) experiments, indicative of copolymer formation over homopolymerization. Copolymer microstructure was found to be dependent on catalyst structure and reaction solvent, ranging from blocky to close to alternating. Experiments revealed rapid conversion of LA in the initial stages of the reaction, followed by incorporation of ε-CL into the copolymer by either transesterification or propagation reactions. Significantly, the mode of transesterification (TI or TII) that occurs is determined by the structure of the metal complex and the reaction solvent, leading to the possibility of controlling copolymer microstructure through catalyst design.

Abstract
The combination of inexpensive Fe(ii) acetate with low molecular weight aliphatic carboxamides in situ generates an effective catalyst system for the ring opening polymerisation of lactones. PLLAs were produced in melt conditions with molar masses of up to 15 kg mol-1, narrow dispersity (Đ = 1.03), and without racemisation. The catalytic system was investigated in detail with regard to Fe(ii) source, and steric and electronic effects of the amide's substituents. Furthermore, the synthesis of PLLA-PCL block copolymers of very low randomness was achieved. This commercially available, inexpensive, modular, and user-friendly catalyst mixture may be suitable for polymers with biomedical applications.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) simulations of ring-opening copolymerization of ε-caprolactone (CL) and L-lactide (LA) in presence of novel gallium complex on aminobis (phenolate) ligand are conducted. The initial steps of polymerization of CL and LA as well as the first steps of propagation which led to LGa-LA-LA-OMe, LGa-LA-CL-OMe, LGa-CL-LA-OMe, or LGa-CL-CL-OMe derivatives have been analyzed in detail. According to these data, the studied catalyst is a rare example of a catalyst in which, during copolymerization, the polymerization of CL should proceed faster than LA. Thus, we predict the formation of a mainly block copolymer poly(CL-block-LA) using this catalyst.

Abstract
Homogeneity of copolymers is a general problem of catalytic coordination polymerization. In ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters, the rational design of the catalyst is generally applied to solve this problem by the equalization of the reactivities of comonomers-however, it often leads to a reduction of catalytic activity. In the present paper, we studied the catalytic behavior of BnOH-activated complexes (ВНТ)Mg(THF)2nBu (1), (ВНТ)2AlMe (2) and [(ВНТ)ZnEt]2 (3), based on 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT-H) in homo- and copolymerization of L-lactide (lLA) and ε-caprolactone (εCL). Even at 1:5 lLA/εCL ratio Mg complex 1 catalyzed homopolymerization of lLA without involving εCL to the formation of the polymer backbone. On the contrary, Zn complex 3 efficiently catalyzed random lLA/εCL copolymerization; the presence of mono-lactate subunits in the copolymer chain clearly pointed to the transesterification mechanism of copolymer formation. Both epimerization and transesterification side processes were analyzed using the density functional theory (DFT) modeling that confirmed the qualitative difference in catalytic behavior of 1 and 3: Mg and Zn complexes demonstrated different types of preferable coordination on the PLA chain (k2 and k3, respectively) with the result that complex 3 catalyzed controlled εCL ROP/PLA transesterification, providing the formation of lLA/εCL copolymers that contain mono-lactate fragments separated by short oligo(εCL) chains. The best results in the synthesis of random lLA/εCL copolymers were obtained during experiments on transesterification of commercially available PLLA, the applicability of 3/BnOH catalyst in the synthesis of random copolymers of εCL with methyl glycolide, ethyl ethylene phosphonate and ethyl ethylene phosphate was also demonstrated.

Abstract
Catalytic ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters (lactides, lactones) and cyclic ethylene phosphates is an effective way to process materials with regulated hydrophilicity and controlled biodegradability. Random copolymers of cyclic monomers of different chemical nature are highly attractive due to their high variability of characteristics. Aryloxy-alkoxy complexes of non-toxic metals such as derivatives of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenoxy magnesium (BHT-Mg) complexes are effective coordination catalysts for homopolymerization of all types of traditional ROP monomers. In the present paper, we report the results of density functional theory (DFT) modeling of BHT-Mg-catalyzed copolymerization for lactone/lactide, lactone/ethylene phosphate and lactide/ethylene phosphate mixtures. ε-Caprolactone (ε-CL), l-lactide (l-LA) and methyl ethylene phosphate (MeOEP) were used as examples of monomers in DFT simulations by the Gaussian-09 program package with the B3PW91/DGTZVP basis set. Both binuclear and mononuclear reaction mechanistic concepts have been applied for the calculations of the reaction profiles. The results of calculations predict the possibility of the formation of random copolymers based on l-LA/MeOEP, and substantial hindrance of copolymerization for ε-CL/l-LA and ε-CL/MeOEP pairs. From the mechanistic point of view, the formation of highly stable five-membered chelate by the products of l-LA ring-opening and high donor properties of phosphates are the key factors that rule the reactions. The results of DFT modeling have been confirmed by copolymerization experiments.

Abstract
The development of synthetic strategies to produce statistical copolymers based on l-lactide (l-LA) and ε-caprolactone (CL), denoted as P(LA- stat-CL), remains highly challenging in polymer chemistry. This is due to the differing reactivity of the two monomers during their ring-opening copolymerization (ROcP). Yet, P(LA- stat-CL) materials are highly sought after as they combine the properties of both polylactide (PLA) and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL). Here, benzoic acid (BA), a naturally occurring, cheap, readily recyclable, and thermally stable weak acid, is shown to trigger the organocatalyzed ring-opening copolymerization (OROcP) of l-LA and CL under solvent-free conditions at 155 °C, in presence of various alcohols as initiators, with good control over molar masses and dispersities (1.11 < Đ < 1.35) of the resulting copolyesters. Various compositions can be achieved, and the formation of statistical compounds is shown through characterization by 1H, 13C, and diffusion ordered spectroscopy NMR spectroscopies and by differential scanning calorimetry, as well as through the determination of reactivity ratios ( rLA = 0.86, rCL = 0.86), using the visualization of the sum of squared residuals space method. Furthermore, this BA-OROcP process can be exploited to access metal-free PLA- b-P(LA- stat-CL)- b-PLA triblock copolymers, using a diol as an initiator. Finally, residual traces of BA remaining in P(LA- stat-CL) copolymers (<0.125 mol %) do not show any cytotoxicity toward hepatocyte-like HepaRG cells, demonstrating the safety of this organic catalyst.

Abstract
Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters/lactones by efficient catalysts is a powerful method for synthesis of biodegradable and biocompatible polyesters with well-defined structures. To develop catalytic systems that are fast, selective and controlled is a persistent effort of chemists. In this contribution, we report a binary urea/alkoxide catalytic system that could catalyze ROP of rac-LA in a fast (over 90% conversion within 1-2 min), stereoselective (P i up to 0.93) and controlled manner, indicated by narrow MW distributions, linear relationship between the monomer conversions and M ns, end-group fidelity, and chain extension experiments. Remarkably, the catalytic system described here is simple, easily prepared, and structurally tunable and thus has versatile catalytic performances.

Abstract
Chromium-based complexes are among the most important catalysts in the field of ethylene polymerization and oligomerization. Heterogeneous Cr Phillips catalysts account for more than one-third of the commercialized high density polyethylene (HDPE). In this contribution, chromium complexes, LCrCl3 (Cr1-Cr4: L = 2,6-R1-4-R2-C6H2-N[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-C6H4-2-PPh2; Cr1: R1 = H, R2 = H; Cr2: R1 = Me, R2 = H; Cr3: R1 = iPr, R2 = H; Cr4: R1 = Ph2CH, R2 = iPr), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, ESI and IR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of Cr3 and Cr4 are defined by X-ray diffraction, revealing a distorted octahedral geometry around the chromium center in both structures. In the presence of an aluminum cocatalyst, complexes Cr1-Cr4 show moderate to high activities toward ethylene polymerization. The nature of the catalysts and various reaction conditions, such as the nature and the amount of cocatalyst, reaction time and temperature, are investigated in detail. The results show that the title complexes have good thermal stability and the substituents on the ligands significantly affect the catalytic properties. Particularly, complex Cr4 can produce HDPE with a high molecular weight up to 68.3 × 104 g mol-1 due to the suppression of the chain transfer/termination by the introduction of bulky Ph2CH groups.

Abstract
Six examples of aluminum 5,6-dihydro-7,7-dimethylquinolin-8-olates, [{2-R¹-7,7-Me₂-8-R²C₉H₆N-8-O}AlR³₂]₂ (R¹ = R² = H, R³ = Me C1; R¹ = R² = H, R³ = Et C2; R¹ = R² = H, R³ = i-Bu C3; R¹ = Cl, R² = H, R³ = Me C4; R¹ = H, R² = R³ = Me C5; R¹ = Cl, R² = R³ = Me C6), have been prepared by treating the corresponding pro-ligand (L1⁻L4) with either AlMe₃, AlEt₃ or Al(i-Bu)₃. All complexes have been characterized by ¹H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and in the case of C1 and C4 by single crystal X-ray diffraction; dimeric species are a feature of their molecular structures. In the presence of PhCH₂OH (BnOH), C1⁻C6 displayed good control and efficiency for the ROP of ε-CL with almost 100% conversion achievable in 10 min at 90 °C; the chloro-substituted C4 and C6 notably exhibited the lowest activity of the series. However, in the absence of BnOH, C1 showed only low activity with 15% conversion achieved in 30 min forming a linear polymer capped with either a methyl or a L1 group. By contrast, when one or more equivalents of BnOH was employed in combination with C1, the resulting catalyst was not only more active but gave linear polymers capped with BnO end-groups. By using ¹H and 27Al NMR spectroscopy to monitor solutions of C1, C1/BnOH and C1/BnOH/10 ε-CL over a range of temperatures, some support for a monomeric species being the active initiator at the operational temperature is presented.

Abstract
A series of alkyl aluminium complexes based on heteroscorpionate ligands were designed as catalysts for the ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic esters and ring-opening copolymerisation of epoxides and anhydrides. Treatment of AlX3 (X = Me, Et) with ligands bpzbeH [bpzbe = 1,1-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)-3,3-dimethyl-2-butoxide], bpzteH [bpzte = 2,2-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)-1-para-tolylethoxide], and (R,R)-bpzmmH [(R,R)-bpzmm = (1R)-1-{(1R)-6,6-dimethyl-bicyclo[3.1.1]-2-hepten-2-yl}-2,2-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)ethoxide] for 2 hours at 0 °C afforded the mononuclear dialkyl aluminium complexes [AlMe2{κ2-bpzbe}] (1), [AlEt2{κ2-bpzbe}] (2), [AlMe2{κ2-(R,R)-bpzmm}] (3) and [AlEt2{κ2-(R,R)-bpzmm}] (4), and the dinuclear dialkyl complexes [AlMe2{κ2-bpzte}]2 (5) and [AlEt2{κ2-bpzte}]2 (6). The molecular structures of the new complexes were determined by spectroscopic methods and confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The alkyl-containing aluminium complexes can act as highly efficient single-component initiators for the ring-opening polymerisation of ε-caprolactone and l-lactide and for the ring-opening copolymerisation of cyclohexene oxide and phthalic anhydride to give a range of biodegradable polyesters.
