Recent Advances in the Synthesis and Optical Applications of Acridine-based Hybrid Fluorescent Dyes

Acridine-based hybrid fluorescent dyes represent a category of dyes that integrate the acridine chromophore with other functional groups or materials to enhance their fluorescence properties. These dyes have garnered substantial attention across various domains, encompassing bioimaging, sensing, and optoelectronics. In recent years, researchers have directed their efforts toward fabricating acridine-based hybrid fluorescent dyes with improved water solubility, biocompatibility, and targeting capabilities. These advancements have facilitated their utilization in biological imaging applications, such as monitoring cellular processes, investigating protein-protein interactions, and detecting specific biomolecules. This review delineates the recent progress in synthesizing acridine-based hybrid fluorescent dyes and their applications in optical properties over the past decade. This review is anticipated to catalyze the development of innovative fluorescent materials featuring heightened properties and functionalities.

An overview on the synthesis of carbohydrate-based molecules with biological activity related to neurodegenerative diseases

In the context of the search for multitarget drugs with improved efficacy against neurodegenerative disorders, carbohydrate derivatives have emerged as promising candidates for Alzheimer's therapy. Herein we describe the synthesis and biological evaluation of several classes of sugar-based compounds, where most of them contain heterocyclic aromatic moieties that bear known biological properties and high affinity for the cholinesterase active site. This general idea led to the synthesis of compounds with high inhibitory potency against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE), enzymatic selectivity and combined properties such as antioxidant and neuroprotection, in addition to the absence of toxicity.

Syntheses of 12H-benzo[a]xanthen-12-ones and benzo[a]acridin-12(7H)-ones through Au(i)-catalyzed Michael addition/6-endo-trig cyclization/aromatization cascade annulation

A multifaceted gold(i)-catalyzed aromaticity-driven double 6-endo cascade cyclization strategy to synthesize both 12H-benzo[a]xanthen-12-ones and benzo[a]acridin-12(7H)-ones, whose core motifs xanthone and acridone both exist as important scaffolds in an immense number of bioactive compounds, was developed. The scopes of this strategy were examined by using a batch of synthetic 1,3-diphenylprop-2-yn-1-one substrates. To probe the mechanism of this cyclization a control experiment for synthesizing intermediates was performed. Thus, a putative mechanism was determined according to this experiment and previous studies.

Novel Pyrazole-Hydrazone Derivatives Containing an Isoxazole Moiety: Design, Synthesis, and Antiviral Activity

In this study, a series of novel pyrazole-hydrazone derivatives containing an isoxazole moiety were synthesized. Antiviral bioassays indicated that some of the title compounds exhibited better in vivo antiviral activities against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). In particular, compounds 6a, 6c and 6q exhibited the best curative activity, protection activity, and inactivation activity against TMV, respectively, which were superior to those of Ningnanmycin. This study demonstrated that this series of novel pyrazole-hydrazone derivatives containing an isoxazole amide moiety could effectively control TMV.
