Abstract
BACKGROUND A few studies have described an increased prevalence of skin infections in individuals with hyperhidrosis compared to others. However, it remains uncertain whether hyperhidrosis is an independent risk factor for skin infections. OBJECTIVE To compare the risk of skin infections in individuals with and without hyperhidrosis. METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, data on hyperhidrosis were collected from the Danish Blood Donor Study. Blood donors included in 2010-2019 were followed from inclusion until December 2019. Data on redeemed prescriptions against skin infections were collected from the National Prescription Register. The intensity of prescription-use by hyperhidrosis status was assessed in Andersen-Gill models. RESULTS Overall, 4,176 (9.6%) of 43,477 blood donors had self-reported hyperhidrosis and 437 (0.34%) of 127,823 blood donors had hospital diagnosed hyperhidrosis. Self-reported hyperhidrosis was associated with the use of antibiotic prescriptions (adjusted hazard ratio = 1.21; 95% confidence interval 1.00-1.45, p = 0.047). Hospital diagnosed hyperhidrosis was associated with the use of antibiotic (adjusted hazard ratio = 1.33; 95% confidence interval 1.03-1.68, p = 0.028) and topical antifungal prescriptions (adjusted hazard ratio = 1.43; 95% confidence interval 1.04-1.97, p = 0.027). CONCLUSIONS Hyperhidrosis is associated with the use of prescriptions for antibiotics and topical antifungals. This suggests a clinically relevant association between hyperhidrosis and skin infections.

[Influence of nutrition, common autoimmune diseases and smoking on the incidence of foot mycoses]. Hautarzt 2019; 70:581-593. Abstract
BACKGROUND Foot mycoses, including onychomycoses, are worldwide infectious diseases. As part of a regional survey using randomly selected residents of in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we investigated the impact of dietary habits, the presence of most frequent autoimmune diseases and current smoking on fungal skin infections in order to reveal potential new risk factors to elucidate potential preventive interventions. OBJECTIVES The identification of potential new factors that influence the development of mycosis was performed in order to derive possible preventive measures. METHODS In the Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP) in Mecklengburg-Western Pomerania, 2523 inhabitants were examined for mycotic lesions and asked about nutritional habits, the presence of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, psoriasis and smoking habits. RESULTS In all, 8% of probands were diagnosed with mycosis, 6.5% onychomycosis, 3.7% tinea pedis and 0.2% tinea corporis. Psoriasis, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis and frequent consumption of cooked potatoes, oatmeal and corn flakes, cereals, pasta and rice were significantly associated with tinea pedis. Onychomycosis was positively associated with consumption of cooked potatoes. Cigarette consumption proved protective for tinea pedis and dermatophyte colonization. CONCLUSIONS The autoimmune disorders psoriasis and atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis seem to predispose to foot mycosis. Recalcitrant mycosis should raise the question of diets high in carbohydrates. Nicotine abuse seems to protect against skin mycosis and colonization.

Abstract
Plantar hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating on the soles of feet, can have a significant impact on patients' quality of life and emotional well-being. Hyperhidrosis is divided into primary and secondary categories, depending on the cause of the sweating, with plantar hyperhidrosis typically being primary and idiopathic. There is an overall increased risk of cutaneous infection in the presence of hyperhidrosis, including fungal, bacterial, and viral infections. This article discusses a range of treatment options including topical aluminum chloride, iontophoresis, injectable botulinum toxin A, glycopyrrolate, oxybutynin, laser, and endoscopic lumbar sympathectomy. Lifestyle changes regarding hygiene, shoe gear, insoles, and socks are also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary focal hyperhidrosis plantaris can cause impairment in social, physical, leisure and occupational activities. Topical treatment with aluminium chloride is the first-line treatment. The aim of this trial was to evaluate efficacy and safety of two different concentrations of aluminium chloride hexa-hydrate (12.5%, 30%) for 6 weeks. PATIENTS AND METHODS 20 volunteers with hyperhidrosis plantaris were included. Efficacy was evaluated using a clinical rating scale of the hyperhidrosis level and qualitative assessments including Minor's (iodine-starch) test and a standardized sniff test. Furthermore a patient questionnaire and measurements of skin surface pH were done to evaluate the subjective assessments and side effects. RESULTS The hyperhidrosis level significantly decreased in both concentrations. There were no differences in tolerability regarding the skin surface pH and the patient questionnaires. In addition the hidrotic areas decreased after application of both products and the sniff test improved. CONCLUSION Topical application of an antiperspirant containing aluminium chloride reduced sweat production in plantar hyperhidrosis significantly. As both 12.5% and 30% were efficacious and safe, we would recommend 12.5% for outpatient treatment.
