Abstract
This study aimed to examine the perfusion characteristics of benign and malignant soft-tissue tumors (STT) using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and to correlate STT micro-perfusion with malignancy. Findings were compared with patient characteristics, clinical presentations, MRI findings, and histopathological outcomes.This prospective single-center study involved patients with unclear STTs who were scheduled for STT biopsy. Clinical assessments and preoperative MRI were conducted along with CEUS. Perfusion quantification was performed, and perfusion parameters (peak enhancement [PE], rise time, wash-in perfusion index, and washout rate) were calculated. Perfusion characteristics of different STTs were compared.187 patients were included in the final analysis. Significant differences in CEUS perfusion between benign and non-benign STTs were demonstrated. Non-benign tumors showed significantly higher tumor perfusion and differences were also significant when comparing semi-malignant, malignant, and metastatic STTs. (PE-benign 107.74 [34.65-345.62]; PE-semi-malignant 166.06 [60.14-374.47]; PE-malignant 1042.24 [358.15-4917.74]; PE-metastasis 2632.37 [2249.46-3788.94]. ROC analysis demonstrated a sensitivity of 80% and a PPV of 69% for malignant tumor detection using a cut-off value for peak enhancement of 137 [a.u.].CEUS appears to be a promising tool for primary STT evaluation in addition to MRI. Furthermore, it can detect vital areas within the tumor tissue and could be utilized to increase biopsy accuracy.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to quantitatively assess subchondral bone microcirculation perfusion in adults with early osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and to evaluate its correlation with the Association Research Circulation Osseous (ARCO) stage. We investigated 97 adult patients with definite ONFH by imaging a total of 155 hips, performing CEUS, storing images of CEUS processes at different ARCO stages and generating CEUS time-intensity curves (TICs) to obtain perfusion parameters. Differences in CEUS parameters at different ARCO stages were analyzed, and correlations were explored. A logistic regression model was constructed by incorporating the meaningful CEUS indicators. The CEUS parameters time to peak (TTP), peak intensity (PI), enhanced intensity (EI), ascending slope (AS), descending slope (DS) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were significantly different in ARCO stage Ⅰ compared with stage ⅢA, and the same results were obtained in stage Ⅱ compared with stage ⅢA. However, there were no significant differences between stages Ⅰ and Ⅱ. The MTT (mean transit time) assay was not significantly different between the different stages. The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of TTP, PI, EI, AS, DS and AUC in stages Ⅰ and ⅢA had a certain diagnostic efficacy, similar to the results in stages Ⅱ and ⅢA. The diagnostic performance of DS was less accurate in stages Ⅰ and ⅢA, while the diagnostic performance of TTP was less accurate in stages Ⅱ and ⅢA. ARCO stage was independently and negatively correlated with TTP and DS and independently and positively correlated with PI, EI, AS and AUC. The MTT assay was not correlated with ARCO stage. Logistic regression models containing statistically significant TTP, EI and AUC values were constructed, and all three values were closely related to the ARCO stage. In patients with different ARCO stages of ONFH, CEUS can effectively assess subchondral bone perfusion of the femoral head and is expected to become an effective imaging method for the diagnosis of early ONFH.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in quantitatively evaluating angiogenesis during patellar tendon healing in rats. Methods A total of 40 Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this study. The patellar tendons of 30 rats (60 limbs) that underwent incision and suture were treated as the operation group and monitored after 7, 14, and 28 days. The normal patellar tendons of 10 rats (20 limbs) were treated as the control group and monitored on day 0. The ultrasound examination was used to evaluate the structure and blood perfusion of the patellar tendon. Immunohistochemistry was used to assess angiogenesis, and the biomechanical test was used to verify functional recovery of the patellar tendon. Results The tendons in the operation group were significantly thickened compared with those in the control group (p < 0.01). The peak intensity (PI) in CEUS of the tendons showed a clear difference at each time point after the surgery (p < 0.01). PI increased in the operation group with a maximum on day 7, and then gradually decreased until day 28 when PI was close to the basic intensity (BI) in the control group (p > 0.05). It was consistent with the change of the CD31-positive staining areas representing angiogenesis of the injured patellar tendons. The PI was positively correlated with the CD31-positive staining area fraction (R = 0.849, p < 0.001). The failure load and tensile strength of the repaired patellar tendons in the operation group increased over time. The PI showed negative correlations with the failure load (R = -0.787, p < 0.001) and tensile strength (R = -0.714, p < 0.001). Conclusion The PI in CEUS could quantitatively reflect the time-dependent change in the blood supply of the healing site, and the PI correlated with histologic and biomechanical properties of the healing tendon. Quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound could be a useful method to evaluate angiogenesis in healing tendons.

Abstract
Simple Summary Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a noninvasive imaging technique that has become a reliable tool for identifying and monitoring lesions in both human and animals. In the last decade, its use in veterinary diagnostic imaging has gained increasing importance, and it can be reliable in everyday clinical practice. However, there is a lack of reviews describing existing CEUS results in the study of splenic lesions, which is of particular importance in dogs and cats. This information is important for validating its efficacy, to facilitate decision making related to sampling procedures and diagnosis, or even as a means to select CEUS as an alternative diagnostic tool in specific cases. Our goal was to review the existing studies of CEUS applications for splenic ultrasound studies in cats and dogs, present these results in a systematic manner, and combine this information into practical guidelines that can be used to help diagnosis and interpretation in both clinical cases and research. Abstract Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is an emerging technology in veterinary medicine involving the administration of intravenous contrast agents, and it is increasingly recognized for its high potential as a diagnostic imaging tool for small animals. This exam is easy and quick to perform, safe and reliable, and allows for the differentiation of lesions. It permits the identification of lesions that may require more invasive procedures, from those that can be safely dismissed to those that can be followed-up with ultrasound imaging. Although it has been extensively reviewed for use in human medicine, there is an overall lack of information about the application of this technique for cats and dogs, particularly in splenic studies, which can be particularly important for small animals. The present review describes and summarizes the CEUS applications used for splenic analysis in cats and dogs, providing a basic overview of CEUS technology with examples of common and uncommon features of focal splenic lesions. It also systematically gathers the results obtained for benign and malignant splenic lesions described in the literature, whilst providing guidelines for their interpretation. Furthermore, it presents the advantages of using CEUS for splenic analysis in cats and dogs and the main factors that may influence the quality of the imaging and the accuracy of the diagnosis. This type of knowledge can be used to provide a framework to help veterinarians make informed decisions regarding the use of this emerging technique for splenic lesions, guiding their interpretation of CEUS findings in the splenic ultrasounds of cats and dogs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Apart from the immunohistochemical Ki-67 labeling index (LI), clinicians need a non-invasive and convenient way to predict the prognosis of patients with soft-tissue sarcoma (STS). PURPOSE To investigate the correlation between quantitative parameters of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and Ki-67 LI in STS. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 25 patients diagnosed with STS who underwent CEUS examination using SonoVue®, between January 2019 to November 2020, were included in the study. They were then divided into a high-proliferation group and low-proliferation group according to 30% Ki-67 positive tumor cells. The quantitative parameters in the semi-automatic time intensity curve analysis software, including arrival time, time to peak, peak intensity, rise time (RT), rise slope, 50% wash-out time, and 50% wash-out intensity, were extracted from the time intensity curve of CEUS by two independent observers. Statistical evaluation of the correlation and difference between CEUS quantitative parameters and Ki-67 LI between the two groups was performed. According to the area under the curve (AUC) analysis, optimal cutoff points of parameters with significant difference were determined. RESULTS CEUS RT of the high-proliferation group in STS was significantly higher than that of the low-proliferation group (ρ = 0.509, P = 0.01). The most reasonable cutoff to distinguish between low- and high-proliferation groups was 10.84 s. The sensitivity, specificity, and the AUC were 86.7%, 80%, and 0.80, respectively. CONCLUSION CEUS RT was correlated with Ki-67 LI of STS, which can be used as a minimally invasive auxiliary tool to predict the prognosis of STS in clinical practice.

Abstract
The current study investigates if contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) or cytokine expression analysis (CEA) evaluating vascularization are capable of predicting the outcome of non-union therapy. Patients with tibial non-unions were surgically treated and participated in our follow-up program including perioperative collection of blood as well as CEUS analysis. Two groups were formed: Responders in group 1 (G1, N = 8) and Non-Responders in group 2 (G2, N = 5). Serum cytokine expression and local microperfusion were compared and correlated to the radiologic outcome. Evaluation of TNF-α expression revealed significantly lower values prior to first surgery in G1 (G1: 9.66 ± 0.96 pg/mL versus G2: 12.63 ± 1.2 pg/mL; p = 0.045); whereas after treatment both CEA and CEUS indicated a higher potential for angiogenesis in Responders. Logistic regression modelling revealed the highest predictive power regarding eventual osseous consolidation for the combination of both CEUS and serum CEA. The results provide first evidence regarding a link between changes in the serum expression of distinct pro-angiogenic cytokines and alterations in the local microperfusion assessed via both non-invasive and radiation-free diagnostic modalities. In addition, a combination of CEUS and CEA is a promising novel tool in early prediction of the outcome of non-union therapy.
