Abstract
ABSTRACT Gallbladder polypoid lesions (GPLs) refer to any elevated lesion of the mucosal surface of the gallbladder wall, and the prevalence is estimated to be between 0.9% and 12.1%. GPLs include benign polyps and malignant polyps. Benign polyps are further classified as non-neoplastic polyps and neoplastic polyps. Cholesterol polyps are the most common benign polyps and adenocarcinoma is the main type of malignant polyp. Hepatitis B virus infection, liver function abnormalities, dyslipidemia, and obesity are the main risk factors for GPLs. Studies of biological mechanisms have focused on malignant gallbladder polyps, the development of which is regulated by hormone levels in vivo , gut microbiota, inflammation, oxidative stress, Salmonella typhimurium , and related molecules. Diagnostic modalities include chemical examination and imaging examination, with imaging examination currently being the mainstay. Treatment of patients with GPLs is based on the presence or absence of symptoms, age, size of the polyps, tendency of the polyp to increase, and risk factors for symptomatic malignancy to determine whether surgery should be performed.

Abstract
Little has been documented in existing literature regarding incidentally found gallbladder (GB) polyps. These clinically asymptomatic lesions are mostly benign, with only 5% progressing to malignancy. GB cancer, although rare, presents as an end-stage incurable disease. According to the current guidelines, cholecystectomy is recommended for polyps >10 mm in size for a better outcome. Thus, it is essential to know the clinical picture, surveillance, and treatment of these polyps earlier in the course of the disease to avoid the advancement of polyps to malignancy. This paper discusses the signs and symptoms, surveillance, treatment, and prognosis of GB polyps.

Abstract
Gallbladder polyps are protuberances of the gallbladder wall projecting into the lumen. They are usually incidentally found during abdominal sonography or diagnosed on histopathology of a surgery specimen, with an estimated prevalence of up to 9.5% of patients. Gallbladder polyps are not mobile and do not demonstrate posterior acoustic shadowing; they may be sessile or pedunculated. Gallbladder polyps may be divided into pseudopolyps and true polyps. Pseudopolyps are benign and include cholesterolosis, cholesterinic polyps, inflammatory polyps, and localised adenomyomatosis. True gallbladder polyps can be benign or malignant. Benign polyps are most commonly adenomas, while malignant polyps are adenocarcinomas and metastases. There are also rare types of benign and malignant true gallbladder polyps, including mesenchymal tumours and lymphomas. Ultrasound is the first-choice imaging method for the diagnosis of gallbladder polyps, representing an indispensable tool for ensuring appropriate management. It enables limitation of secondary level investigations and avoidance of unnecessary cholecystectomies.

Abstract
PURPOSE The evaluation of the potential clinical benefit of four-dimensional ultrasound (4D-US) in the assessment of bladder cancer (BC). MATERIAL AND METHODS 20 patients with indication for cystoscopy for suspicion of bladder cancer were prospectively included in this study. All patients underwent two-dimensional ultrasound (2D-US), contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and real-time four-dimensional ultrasound (4D-US). All acquisitions were compared to each other in regard to image quality. This assessment was done using a 6 point scale (1 = best). All patients underwent subsequently cystoscopy with resection of the tumor (TURB), due a histopathological analysis was possible. RESULTS All examinations were performed successfully and no patient had to be excluded from the study. Patients acceptance of 4D-US was consistently good. No adverse events occurred. Image quality of real time 4D-US (score: 1.27±0.46) was significantly superior (p < 0.001) to both, conventional 2D-US (score: 2.33±0.62) and also to 2D-CEUS (score: 2.00±0.53). In terms of tumor detection no superiority was evident for 4D-US compared to 2D-US or in utilization of CEUS (sensitivity = 0.89; specificity = 1.00; positive predictive value = 1.00; negative predictive value = 0.50; AUC = 0.944; (95% CI: 07.43-0.998)). CONCLUSION The assessment of bladder cancer using real time 4D-US is feasible and improves the image quality and therefore also the precise anatomical consistency of intravesical tumor masses.

Abstract
A gallbladder polyp is an elevation of the gallbladder mucosa that protrudes into the gallbladder lumen. Gallbladder polyps have an estimated prevalence in adults of between 0.3%-12.3%. However, only 5% of polyps are considered to be "true" gallbladder polyps, meaning that they are malignant or have malignant potential. The main radiological modality used for diagnosing and surveilling gallbladder polyps is transabdominal ultrasonography. However, evidence shows that other modalities such as endoscopic ultrasound may improve diagnostic accuracy. These are discussed in turn during the course of this review. Current guidelines recommend cholecystectomy for gallbladder polyps sized 10 mm and greater, although this threshold is lowered when other risk factors are identified. The evidence behind this practice is relatively low quality. This review identifies current gaps in the available evidence and highlights the necessity for further research to enable better decision making regarding which patients should undergo cholecystectomy, and/or radiological follow-up.

Abstract
Gallbladder polypoid-lesions (GPs) are found in 5-10% of the general population. Although the majority of GPs are asymptomatic and benign in nature, some of them can develop into cancer, which carries a poor prognosis. Currently, the risk factors, natural history and classification of GPs remain unclear, differentiation of benign from malignant or premalignant GPs based on available diagnostic modalities and/or features of patients and GPs remain difficult, and there are still no evidence-based guidelines to dictate when and how GPs of varying sizes and subtypes should be managed. All of these facts have left GPs in uncertainty. Areas covered: A literature search was performed using the terms 'gallbladder polyps' AND 'polypoid lesion of gallbladder' in the PubMed database from January 2000 to September 2016. Original and review articles on almost all aspects of GPs in humans, especially diagnosis, treatment and surveillance, were reviewed and analyzed. Reference lists of reviews and original articles were also examined for relevant publications. Expert commentary: The present article summarizes almost all aspects of GPs, analyzes the controversies, and outlines our data and comments. It is the authors' purpose that this article be beneficial for scientific, accurate and appropriate management of GPs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Vascular complications are one of the most common causes of early kidney transplant dysfunction. Contrast enhanced ultrasound increases sensitivity to vascular changes. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and size of vascular abnormalities in early renal transplants using 3D CEUS and the significance of perfusion defects on renal function. METHODS Ninety-nine renal transplant patients underwent 3D CEUS after surgery to quantify perfusion defects as percentage total renal volume (TRV). Serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were recorded up to 3 months post-surgery. RESULTS Twenty participants had focal perfusion defects (0.2-43%TRV). There was a meaningful difference in patients with perfusion defects in eGFR at 1 month (90% CI 2.7-19.2 mL/min/1.73 m2) and 3 months (90% CI 1.9-19.6 mL/min/1.73 m2) and creatinine at 3 months (90% CI -56 - -8 μmol/L) using a predetermined clinical threshold. Perfusion defect size correlated well with both serum creatinine and eGFR at 3 months (R = 0.80, p ≤ 0.000 and 0.58, p = 0.038). No correlation was seen prior to 3 months. CONCLUSIONS Perfusion defects in kidney transplants were more common than expected and were highly likely to reduce renal function at 1-3 months, and the size of the defect affected the degree of functional change at 3 months. KEY POINTS • Perfusion defects were more common than previously thought. • Perfusion defects could be quantified using 3D CEUS. • The presence of even small perfusion defects may affect kidney function. • Size of perfusion defects correlated with subsequent kidney function at 3 months. • Potentially useful in informing clinician expectations of kidney function post-surgery.

Abstract
In this pictorial essay, we review the 3-dimensional sonographic appearance of the normal gallbladder and biliary tree, as well as the appearance of congenital and acquired biliary tract disorders. Using examples, we demonstrate the advantage of 3-dimensional scanning compared with 2-dimensional sonography and, even in certain cases, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography has been shown to be an accurate and appropriate
tool for measurement of gallbladder volume in humans. Therefore, we applied this novel
technique for the first time to study fasting and postprandial gallbladder volume in 10
healthy dogs and compared the results with those of 2-dimensional (2D) ultrasonography.
Fasting gallbladder volumes determined by 3D ultrasonography were significantly higher
than corresponding volumes determined by 2D ultrasonography (P<0.01).
Additionally, gallbladder volumes were significantly decreased in the postprandial state
compared with the fasting state using 3D ultrasonography (P<0.001),
but 2D ultrasonography showed no significant difference (P=0.189). The
Gallbladder contraction index was higher in 3D ultrasonography than 2D ultrasonography;
however, it did not reach statistical significance (P=0.25). In
conclusion, 3D ultrasonography was able to measure gallbladder volume in healthy dogs in
this study. It is suggested that 3D ultrasonography can be used to accurately estimate
gallbladder volume and contractility.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the value of near-isovoxel ultrasound (ISUS) using xMATRIX technology in assessment of ductal communications with pancreatic cystic lesions. Twenty patients with pancreatic cystic lesions (n = 21) on magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), underwent 2-D ultrasound (US) and subsequent ISUS using a matrix probe. Two observers assessed the presence of ductal communications with pancreatic cystic lesions for all MRCP, 2-D US, and ISUS images with multi-planar reformation, using a 5-point confidence scale. Weighted-κ statistics and intra-class correlation coefficients were calculated. Inter-observer agreement for MRCP, 2-D US and ISUS was moderate, fair and moderate (0.475, 0.222 and 0.472), respectively. The intra-class correlation coefficients between ISUS and MRCP was higher than that between 2-D US and MRCP (0.8706 vs. 0.5353, observer 1; 0.7206 vs. 0.4818, observer 2, respectively). Correlation and inter-observer agreement were better with MRCP than with 2-D US. We conclude that ISUS may be useful in evaluating ductal communications with pancreatic cystic lesions.

Abstract
If a renal mass is suspected on clinical examination or ultrasound the finding has to be confirmed by cross-sectional imaging. Methods that are used include multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Also contrast-enhanced ultrasound has been successfully implemented in renal imaging and now plays a major role in the differentiation of benign from malignant renal masses. In expert hands it can be used to show very faint vascularization and subtle enhancement. The MDCT technique benefits from the recently introduced dual energy technology that allows superior characterization of renal masses in a single-phase examination, thereby greatly reducing radiation exposure. For young patients and persons allergic to iodine MRI should be used and it provides excellent soft tissue contrast and visualizes contrast enhancement kinetics in multiphase examinations.This article aims at giving a comprehensive overview of these different imaging modalities, their clinical indications and contraindications, as well as a description of imaging findings of various renal masses.

Abstract
Gallbladder cancer is a rather uncommon disease, when it gives symptoms it has usually reached an incurable stage. Therefore, every attempt must be made to find the asymptomatic stages and look for premalignant gallbladder polyps. Even if gallbladder cancer is a rare disease, gallbladder polyps are common, only a few polyps develop to cancer. This makes gallbladder polyps another problem: which are the polyps that must be surgically removed, which shall be followed-up, or for how long? The author used the keyword “gallbladder polypsn” in PubMed and reviewed the scientific literatures published from January 2000 to December 2011. The present review article has summarized almost all respects of gallbladder polyp, including the risk factors, clinical diagnosis and management, and comments made from the author, in which clinical treatments are recommended. It is author's purpose that the 11-year-knowledge about gallbladder polyps summarized from all worlds’ literatures is enough to know how clinicians will handle the next patient with gallbladder polyp.

Abstract
Abdominal ultrasound (US) is often the first-line imaging modality used to assess focal liver lesions. Due to various new gray-scaled US techniques, such as tissue harmonic imaging (THI), spatial compounding technique and speckle reduction technique, as well as contrast-enhanced techniques, abdominal ultrasound nowadays has great potential regarding detection and characterization of focal liver lesions. Furthermore, image fusion with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 3D ultrasound will most likely help to improve clinical management before and after interventional procedures. This article illustrates the principles and clinical impact of recently developed techniques in the field of ultrasound.
