Abstract
Central nervous system (CNS) malignancies (i.e. brain and spine tumors) and their treatments can result in a multitude of neurologic deficits. Patients with CNS malignancies experience physical, cognitive, and psychosocial sequelae that can impact their mobility and quality of life. Neurorehabilitation can play a critical role in maintaining independence, preventing disability, and optimizing safety with activities of daily living. This review provides an overview of the neurorehabilitation approaches for patients with CNS malignancies, neurologic impairments frequently treated, and rehabilitation interventions in various health care settings. In addition, we will highlight rehabilitative outcomes between patients with nononcologic neurologic conditions compared to brain and spine tumors. Finally, we address medical challenges that may impact rehabilitation care in these medically complex cancer patients.

Abstract
Background Patients with a chronic disease may have an increased risk of non-adherence to prescribed home-based exercise therapy. We performed a systematic review with the aim to identify variables associated with adherence to home-based exercise therapy in patients with chronic diseases and to grade the quality of evidence for the association between these prognostic factors and adherence. Methods Cohort studies, cross-sectional studies and the experimental arm of randomized trials were identified using a search strategy applied to PubMed, Embase, PsychINFO and CINAHL from inception until August 1, 2022. We included studies with participants ≥18 years with a chronic disease as an indication for home-based exercise therapy and providing data on prognostic factors of adherence to home-based exercise. To structure the data, we categorized the identified prognostic factors into the five WHO-domains; (1) Patient-related, (2) Social/economic, (3) Therapy-related, (4) Condition-related, and (5) Health system factors. Risk of bias was assessed using the Quality in Prognostic Studies (QUIPS) tool. Prognostic factors of adherence were identified and the quality of the evidence between the prognostic factors and adherence were graded using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework for predictor studies. We performed a meta-analysis of the obtained information. Results A total of 57 studies were included. Within patient-related factors moderate- and high-quality evidence suggested that more self-efficacy, exercise history, motivation and perceived behavioral control predicted higher adherence. Within social-economic factors moderate-quality evidence suggested more education and physical health to be predictive of higher adherence and within condition-related factors moderate- and low-quality evidence suggested that less comorbidities, depression and fatigue predicted higher adherence. For the domains therapy-related and health-system factors there was not enough information to determine the quality evidence of the prognostic factors. Conclusion These findings might aid the development of future home-based exercise programs as well as the identification of individuals who may require extra support to benefit from prescribed home-based exercise therapy. Abstract
INTRODUCTION The number of diagnosed brain tumors (BT) has increased in recent years. The results of treatment of patients with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are also improving and their survival rate has increased significantly. Symptoms of the disease and side effects of oncological treatment may reduce the functional performance of patients. It is so important to conduct rehabilitation in this group of patients. The aim of this systematic review is to identify predictors of effective rehabilitation in aspects of physical functioning of BT patients. The study was registered with health and social care, welfare, public health, education, crime, justice and international development departments, where there is a health-related interest outcome PROSPERO. We have received registration number is: CRD42021269398. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION To find relevant publications, the algorithm of keywords ("brain tumor") AND (rehabilitation OR "physical activity" OR exercise OR "physical therapy") was used. The search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, PEDro, ClinicalTrials.gov and Cochrane Library. Information was extracted using the PICO format (i.e., participants, intervention, comparison, outcomes). EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS the initial search identified a total of 1122 results, and 21 articles met the criteria and were selected for analysis. CONCLUSIONS The results present that rehabilitation is an important and safe cancer encouraging therapy, brings functional benefits. The type of rehabilitation program, especially in BT patients, depends on many factors such as time and type of oncological treatment, general conditions which is strongly related to the general functioning of the patient. It still is a need for clinical research into the safety and effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions already during radio or chemotherapy in this group of cancer patients.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to establish preliminary quantitative evidence for the longitudinal change in family function, perceived support, and caregiver burden, acknowledging that physical and emotional symptoms are important variables for quality of life in families affected by a brain cancer diagnosis. This longitudinal quantitative study measured patient-reported and family member-reported outcomes at four different time points in 1 year. The patients reported that the symptom burden hindered their relationships with other people. Furthermore, the generally high level of strain due to the caregiver burden had an especially negative impact on close social relationships. Data indicate that family functioning was continually negatively affected as perceived by both patients and family caregivers. No significant changes over time were identified. The results underline the importance of providing systematic and ongoing support to the whole family that acknowledges their contribution as a valuable social support system for the individual experiencing high-grade glioma.

Abstract
Background Patients with glioma often suffer from cognitive deficits. Physical exercise has been effective in ameliorating cognitive deficits in older adults and neurological patients. This pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) explored the possible impact of an exercise intervention, designed to improve cognitive functioning in glioma patients, regarding cognitive test performance and patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Methods Thirty-four clinically stable patients with World Health Organization grades II/III glioma were randomized to a home-based remotely coached exercise group or an active control group. Patients exercised 3 times per week for 20–45 minutes, with moderate to vigorous intensity, during 6 months. At baseline and immediate follow-up, cognitive performance and PROs were assessed with neuropsychological tests and questionnaires, respectively. Linear regression analyses were used to estimate effect sizes of potential between-group differences in cognitive performance and PROs at 6 months. Results The exercise group (n = 21) had small- to medium-sized better follow-up scores than the control group (n = 11) on several measures of attention and information processing speed, verbal memory, and executive function, whereas the control group showed a slightly better score on a measure of sustained selective attention. The exercise group also demonstrated small- to medium-sized better outcomes on measures of self-reported cognitive symptoms, fatigue, sleep, mood, and mental health–related quality of life. Conclusions This small exploratory RCT in glioma patients provides a proof of concept with respect to improvement of cognitive functioning and PROs after aerobic exercise, and warrants larger exercise trials in brain tumor patients.

Abstract
Exercise is a well-established factor which improves outcomes of oncological patients during curative treatment as well as in cancer survivors. However, the role of physical activity in metastatic disease, due to the deficiency of high-level evidence from prospective clinical trials, remains a partially unexplored field of research. Additionally, no specific guidelines related to exercise for persons with advanced cancer have been developed so far. Unfortunately, this research deficit may effectively prevent physicians from prescribing adequate and safe recommendations on physical activity to their patients. In an attempt to fill this gap in clinical practice, we present here an up-to-date review of potential benefits of exercise interventions in relation to the survival, quality of life and supportive care for patients with metastatic cancer. We also review the data on the safety of physical activity with special emphasis on elderly populations or individuals with bone metastases. Finally, we discuss the most relevant clinical factors that should be considered during exercise qualification. In conclusion, physical activity is an important tool for improving the outcomes of people undergoing anticancer therapy for metastatic disease. However, the training should be tailored individually to the patient's functional status, comorbidities and preferences. Physical activity should become a standard component of every metastatic cancer care plan.

Abstract
Increased life expectancy in brain tumour patients had led to the need for strategies that preserve and improve cognitive functioning, as many patients suffer from cognitive deficits. The tumour itself, as well as antitumor treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, supportive treatment and individual patient factors are associated with cognitive problems. Here, we review the recent literature on approaches that preserve and improve cognitive functioning, including pharmacological agents and rehabilitation programs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Many patients with brain cancer experience cognitive problems. In this narrative review, we comprehensively evaluated empirical studies on various intervention approaches for cognitive problems in these patients. METHODS Intervention studies that reported effects on cognitive functioning (either objectively tested or subjectively reported) in adult patients with primary and/or secondary brain tumours were identified through online searches in PubMed (MEDLINE) and Web of Science up to 13 March 2019. RESULTS Of the 364 identified records, 10 pharmacological (including five randomised placebo-controlled trials), 10 cognitive rehabilitation (including five [pilot] RCTs) and two multiple-group exercise studies matched the inclusion criteria. Seventeen of 22 studies had final sample sizes smaller than 40. Several cognitive rehabilitation studies and some pharmacological approaches (donepezil and memantine) showed (at least partial) benefits for cognitive problems in adults with brain cancer. The effects of other pharmacological and exercise interventions were inconclusive and/or preliminary. CONCLUSION Overall, drawing firm conclusions is complicated due to various methodological shortcomings, including the absence of a (placebo) control group and small sample sizes. Promising effects have been reported for cognitive rehabilitation and some pharmacological approaches. Suggestions for more thorough research with respect to the various approaches are provided.

Abstract
Cognitive dysfunction is common among patients with intracranial tumors. Most cognitive deficits are subtle, lack specificity, may mimic depression or other neurological disorders and may be recognized in retrospect by the physician. In certain cases, distinguishing between tumor recurrence and cognitive deficits that arise as a consequence of the treatment becomes challenging. Late treatment effects have also become an area of focus as the overall survival and prognosis of patients with brain tumors increases. New data has highlighted the importance of less toxic adjuvant therapies owing to their positive impact on prognosis and quality of life. Various experimental therapies and genetic influences on individual sensitivity towards injury are promising steps towards a better management strategy for cognitive dysfunction. In this literature review, we discuss cognitive dysfunction as a manifestation of intracranial tumors, treatment modalities such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery and their impact on cognition and patients' quality of life. We also discuss management options for cognitive dysfunction and emerging therapies.
