Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to explore women's experiences of working and returning to work while coping with cancer. METHODS Participants were ten Israeli women with cancer who had an active career at the time of diagnosis. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and thematically analyzed. RESULTS Four themes were generated. The first was "the meaning of work prior to the diagnosis": participants shared their perspective on the significance of work in their life prior to being diagnosed with cancer-work was construed as either time-consuming, a source for socializing, or a source for meaning and self-worth. The second was "the diagnosis of cancer and work": participants held the belief that either the cancer was caused by work or that the cancer halted their careers, in some cases both applied. The third was "the combination of work and cancer treatments": participants described severe physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges they faced, and how these affected their ability to balance work with receiving treatments. The fourth was "returning to work after cancer": participants found themselves having to balance preventative and rehabilitative care with career demands, employer expectations, and general work-life balance adjustments. CONCLUSION Findings suggest that healthcare professionals should assess individual perspectives and capabilities prior to returning to work and elucidate opportunities and challenges that cancer survivors may meet. Findings also reaffirm the need for formal workplace education and policies to combat discrimination and tailored return to work opportunities to survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Women's experiences of working while coping with cancer were thematically analyzed. These women face many challenges in the context of returning to work. Findings suggest that returning to work could be facilitated by healthcare professionals and employers through communication and tailored workplace policies.

Abstract
High rates of employment changes and associated concerns among cancer survivors following diagnosis and treatment suggest a need to examine what employment-related educational resources and support are currently being offered to cancer survivors and what gaps exist in those resources. In 2023, we conducted a content analysis of employment resources described on the websites of the NCI-Designated Cancer Centers that provide clinical care (N = 64) through a systematic review procedure using predetermined search terms and a standardized process to examine the availability and accessibility of such resources. Descriptive analyses were conducted to characterize the employment resources identified. In total, 175 employment resources were identified across 49 cancer center websites; 102 (58%) provided patient-facing education/information, 58 (33%) offered a consultation, 14 (8%) offered support groups/classes, and 1 (1%) was classified as "Other." Most (76%) resources were provided internally by the cancer center, and often, more than one discipline was involved, most commonly social work and medicine. These findings are encouraging as they suggest that most (77%) NCI-Designated Cancer Centers recognize employment support as a component of survivorship care. The multidisciplinary nature of the resources identified is supported by moderate evidence that multidisciplinary interventions appear to have the greatest potential to foster a return to work for cancer survivors and align with suggestions made by recent expert groups and guidelines regarding employment support for cancer survivors. Ongoing work is needed to assess the utilization, impact, and equity of available employment resources to optimize work outcomes among cancer survivors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Return to work after chronic disease is important for workers, employers and society. The process, however, is challenging. This article provides an analytical and theoretical framework for explaining this process informed by the person-environment fit theory. METHODS This article uses a narrative method to (1) review the key concepts, benefits and influencing factors in the literature on return to work after chronic diseases, (2) analyse and critique the most important theoretical models used for explaining return to work after chronic diseases, and (3) review the person-environment fit theory and how it has been used so far. RESULTS The existing models highlight different aspects, but they overlook the relationship between the worker and the employer. An analytical and theoretical framework is proposed to comprehensively explain the worker-employer dynamic. The framework also considers the role of broader factors (policy, labour market) and other stakeholders (health professionals, civil society actors) emphasising the idea that return to work is a phased and cyclical process. DISCUSSION The framework can be used to guide future qualitative and quantitative studies, or as a map for identifying problematic areas related to the worker or the work environment. The model should be empirically tested in future studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Having a job has been associated with better Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) in cancer survivors. However, the sociodemographic and disease-related profiles characterizing the survivors being employed and those having better HRQOL largely overlap. The present study aims to discern the degree to which employment status is independently associated with cancer survivors' HRQOL or if it mainly reflects the impact of other sociodemographic and cancer-related variables. METHODS Cross-sectional study on a heterogeneous sample of 772 working-age survivors of adult-onset cancer. An instrument specifically designed to assess HRQOL in cancer survivors and Multivariate Variance Analysis (MANOVA) were used. RESULTS Survival phase, cancer type, and employment status showed the main effects on cancer survivors' HRQOL. In particular, being employed (vs unemployed) had the greatest positive association with HRQOL, affecting ten of the twelve HRQOL domains considered. Also, interaction effects highlighted the role of age (younger) and marital status (single) as risk factors for a greater negative impact of variables affecting the survivor's HRQOL. CONCLUSIONS The application of a multivariate methodology sheds new light on two relevant issues for the cancer survivor's HRQOL: (i) the existence of differences between diagnostic groups that are not attributed to other variables such as sex, and (ii) the important and independent role that employment status plays. Comprehensive cancer survivorship care should focus more on high-risk groups and include having a job as an essential aspect to consider and prompt. The fact that the employment status is susceptible to change represents a valuable opportunity to care for the wellbeing of this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the return-to-work adaptation experience and coping resources used by cancer patients. METHODS With the help of the Nantong Cancer Friends Association, from June 2019 to January 2020, this study recruited 30 cancer patients who had returned to work using purpose sampling, snowball sampling and theoretical sampling. The researchers analyzed the data using initial-, focusing-, and theoretical coding. RESULTS The adaptation of cancer patients to return-to-work is a rebuilding process by taking advantage of the available personal and external coping resources. The adaptation experience includes: focusing on rehabilitation, rebuilding self-efficacy, and adjusting plans. CONCLUSION Medical staff should help patients mobilize coping resources to adapt to return to work.

Abstract
Background Increasing cancer screening rates among working-age populations and providing employment support for employees with cancer are issues that need to be addressed in Japan. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the situation regarding cancer screening promotion and employment support for employees with cancer at business establishments and the support they seek from medical professionals regarding these issues. Methods This survey covered 1,058 business establishments and included the following items: attributes of the business establishments, cancer screening rate, support for employees to promote cancer screening, support sought by business establishments from medical professionals to promote cancer screening, presence of employees with cancer, support programs for employees with cancer, awareness of the resources available for employment support for employees with cancer, difficulties in supporting employees with cancer in the workplace, and support sought by business establishments from medical professionals in providing employment support for employees with cancer. Data analysis was primarily conducted using summary statistics. Results This study included 153 establishments. The median cancer screening rate ranged from 50.00 to 99.15. Employee support for promoting cancer screening ranged from approximately 30% to 40% for "ensuring time for screening" and from 20% to 30% for "providing full subsidies for cancer screening cost." The median screening rate for breast and cervical cancers was 50.00, and support for promoting screening was less than 30% for each. Business establishments sought support from medical professionals regarding cancer and study sessions on cancer prevention to promote cancer screening. Regarding support systems for employees with cancer, 49.7% of the establishments offered sickness benefits, and 42.5% offered paid leave on an hourly basis. Less than 10% were aware of the websites provided by public organizations regarding employment support for patients with cancer. Approximately 50% of the establishments reported difficulties regarding treatment policies and duration uncertainties. Conclusion Business establishments sought the provision of relevant knowledge and specific information to increase cancer screening rates and provide employment support for employees with cancer. Furthermore, this study suggests that employees with cancer need to manage the information they provide their establishments.

Abstract
The evidence base for interventions that support the employment goals of cancer survivors is growing but inconclusive. As the first step in initiating a community-engaged program of research aimed at developing and testing interventions to support the employment goals of cancer survivors, 23 cancer survivors, 17 healthcare providers, and 5 employers participated in individual interviews to elicit perceptions regarding local challenges and resources related to work maintenance and optimization within the context of cancer treatment. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. A thematic analysis was conducted to identify cross-cutting experiences that were voiced by all three types of participants. Three themes were found in the data: (1) the onus for identifying and articulating work-related issues is upon the cancer survivor; (2) the main support offered to cancer survivors involved time away from work and flexibility with scheduling work and treatment activities; and (3) participants voiced a lack of information regarding one or more aspects related to supporting employment goals of cancer survivors. Supportive resources designed for cancer survivors, employers, and/or healthcare providers are needed to help cancer survivors optimize their employment situations.

Abstract
Promoting the return to work of breast cancer survivors is of major interest to patients, healthcare and occupational health professionals, companies, governments, and researchers worldwide. We previously conducted a French consensus study resulting in a model describing the multifactorial process of the return to work of breast cancer survivors (the REWORK-BC model). Other work has identified the transtheoretical model as a relevant theoretical framework for interventions to promote the return to work of cancer survivors. In this opinion paper, we provide a theoretically-based clinical framework describing how to support breast cancer survivors at each stage of the return-to-work process. This clinical framework considers several essential aspects of supportive care for breast cancer survivors returning to work, such as: (i) helping the patient actively self-manage, by considering her to be the main decision-maker; (ii) respecting and adapting to the patient’s choice of professional project; (iii) respecting the temporality of the patient’s choices; (iv) proposing tailored interventions; (v) implementing simple tools to promote the return to work, shared representation between the patient and a multidisciplinary team, and improvement of working conditions and the knowledge of health and occupational professionals, and managers or employers; and (vi) maintaining certain flexibility aimed at proposing, but never imposing, changes in practices. This clinical framework, specific to breast cancer survivors, could be extrapolated to other tumor types, offering a practical guide for healthcare and occupational health professionals to better understand the return-to-work process of cancer survivors. This clinical framework aims to be a usable tool for any hospital or cancer care center wishing to implement a patient-centered intervention that promotes returning to work, regardless of the country.

Abstract
PURPOSE Interventions to support work participation in cancer survivors (CSs) have shown limited effectiveness. Applying a behavioral change framework (e.g., stages of change) could make work participation interventions for CSs more timely and tailored. We aimed to explore the application of the stages of change framework to work participation support for CSs and to generate stage-specific intervention content. METHODS Eighteen experts (e.g., occupational physicians, reintegration consultants) were individually interviewed, and three focus groups with CSs (n = 6, n = 5, n = 4) were conducted. Data were analyzed along the six work-related behavioral change stages purported by the readiness for return to work framework, which is based on the stages of change. RESULTS The following themes were identified: (1) pre-contemplation: emotional support and staying connected-encourage contact with the employer/colleagues; (2) contemplation: considering return to work is stressful-facilitate the deliberation process; (3) preparation self-evaluative: assess current capabilities-seek guidance from, e.g., occupational physicians; (4) preparation behavioral: planning return to work-allow for personalized solutions and encourage supervised return to work; (5) uncertain maintenance: guard against overload-train self-efficacy strategies and communication tactics; and (6) proactive maintenance: accept and prepare for the long term. CONCLUSIONS Our results support the potential utility of tailoring CSs' work participation support along the stages of change. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS We provided recommendations for intervention content and developed a stage-specific work participation intervention for CSs, the effectiveness of which will be evaluated in an upcoming randomized controlled trial.
