Abstract
Objective China's diverse economic landscape across its regions may contribute to disparities in cancer-related financial toxicity (FT), but empirical evidence is lacking. This study examined regional disparities in cancer-related FT across economically diverse provinces in China. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among adult patients with cancer from six tertiary and six secondary hospitals across three Chinese provinces with varying economic statuses (high-, middle-, and low-income). FT was assessed using the COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity (COST). Hierarchical regression analysis was employed to compare FT among participants from different economic regions, controlling for 13 patient-level sociodemographic and clinical risk factors. Results From February to October 2022, 1208 participants completed the survey (response rate = 97.3%). Mean COST scores were 21.99 ± 6.37 (high-income), 20.38 ± 8.01 (middle-income), and 19.20 ± 5.14 (low-income), showing significant differences (P < 0.001), with lower scores indicating more severe FT. After adjusting for covariates, regional economic level was significantly associated with FT, with more severe FT in middle- (B: -1.515; 95% CI: -2.250, -0.780) and low-income regions (B: -2.159; 95% CI: -2.899, -1.418) than in high-income regions. Conclusions This study reveals significant disparities in cancer-related FT across economically diverse provinces in China. The findings underscore the need for targeted policies and interventions to improve health equity in cancer care, with a focus on not neglecting middle-income regions. Oncology nurses are expected to enhance awareness of FT management, voice the needs of patients, and advocate for policy reforms to address these disparities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with breast cancer experience varying levels of financial toxicity (FT), but the factors contributing to sustained financial toxicity remain poorly understood. METHODS This longitudinal study was conducted from November 2022 to March 2024 in China. Participants were recruited from four Tertiary Level A hospitals using convenient sampling. FT was assessed using the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity (COST) at baseline (T1), 3 months (T2), 6 months (T3), and 12 months (T4) post-surgery. Growth Mixture Modeling was used to identify the different trajectories of the FT. Multivariable logistic regression were employed to explore the predictive factors with different trajectory categories. RESULTS Among 378 participants (all women; median [SD] age, 48.9 [9.97] years), the COST score was lowest at T2. Three distinct FT trajectories were identified: 91 patients (24 %) in the "Severe FT with Gradual Relief" group (trajectory 1), 190 patients (50 %) in the "Persistently Low-Level FT" group (trajectory 2), and 97 patients (26 %) in the "Moderate FT with Gradual Worsening" group (trajectory 3). Using trajectory 2 as the reference, predictors for trajectory 1 included symptom burden, location, cancer stage, cost-related health literacy, resilience, and difficulty affording basic expenses. For trajectory 3, predictors included monthly household income, symptom burden, location, and cancer stage. CONCLUSIONS The FT experienced by breast cancer patients changes over time and follows distinct dynamic trajectories, influenced by multiple factors. In future clinical practice, early identification and intervention for high-risk FT groups should be prioritized.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Breast cancer has become the leading cause of global cancer incidence. With the improvement of treatment methods, financial toxicity among breast cancer patients has been widely studied. OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to summarize the risk factors for and outcomes of financial toxicity among breast cancer patients, to identify populations at risk for financial toxicity, to identify the consequent health impacts, and to provide evidence for subsequent intervention programs. METHODS We searched the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, MEDLINE (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCO), EMBASE (Ovid), ProQuest, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from inception to July 21, 2022. We followed the updated framework for scoping reviews proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. RESULTS A total of 31 studies were included. Risk factors and outcomes of financial toxicity among breast cancer patients were identified and extracted. The risk factors included socioeconomic, demographic, disease and treatment, and psychological and cognitive factors, whereas financial toxicity affected the physical, behavioral, and psychological domains of breast cancer patients, resulting in material loss, coping behaviors, and impaired health-related quality of life. CONCLUSION Financial toxicity among breast cancer patients depends on multiple factors and has profound effects. The findings will be helpful for identifying breast cancer patients at a high risk of financial toxicity and developing intervention programs to reduce financial toxicity and outcomes. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE More high-quality prospective, multicenter studies should be conducted in the future to better understand the trajectory of and risk factors for financial toxicity. Further studies should merge symptom management and psychosocial support into intervention programs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Financial toxicity (FT) of cancer treatment likely affects more patients in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs); however, most of the research on FT comes from high-income countries, which may not apply to LMICs. The causes and consequences of FT in patients with cancer in LMICs remain understudied. METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched MEDLINE, Web of Science, and CINAHL for FT literature in cancer originating from LMICs from inception until the end of 2023, and documented the different definitions used to define FT in LMICs, and the magnitude of FT documented using those definitions. LMIC was defined using the World Bank Country and Lending Group classification. RESULTS Sixty-eight studies met the inclusion criteria. Studies on FT in cancer originating from LMICs have increased in recent years (>75% studies published 2020 onward) and used varying criteria to define FT, broadly categorized into five themes. Majority of the studies defined FT in terms of catastrophic health expenditure (45%) or household impoverishment (10%), while 26% of the studies used the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity tool, developed and validated in US patients, to measure FT in LMIC settings. Twenty-six percent of the studies defined FT in terms of coping mechanisms and 10% in terms of subjective financial burden. The magnitude of FT in patients with cancer was substantial irrespective of the definitions used. CONCLUSION This review synthesizes the different definitions of FT for LMICs that have been used in the literature so far. We conclude that the definitions that capture the coping mechanisms or hardships might reflect the magnitude of FT better than absolute dollar values or relative percentages of expenditures. Future studies can use our results to devise locally tailored definitions of FT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Most women with breast cancer in China have received a mastectomy despite emerging breast-conserving alternatives. Their decision-making relating to mastectomy is unclear. OBJECTIVE To investigate decisional conflict, women's involvement, and psychological factors relating to mastectomy decisions. METHODS Women with breast cancer 18 years and older who had a mastectomy were recruited from 2 hospitals in China. A conceptual framework adapted from the Ottawa Decisional Support Framework was used to guide this study. Data were collected using the 16-item Decisional Conflict Scale, the 9-item Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire, and a 19-item psychological factor list. RESULTS A total of 304 women participated. Overall, they reported a low-level conflict and high-level involvement. "Cancer not return" was rated as the most important psychological factor influencing mastectomy decisions. Lower decisional conflict was predicted by higher involvement. Higher involvement was predicted by younger age and increased family income. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to demonstrate decisional conflict, involvement, and the associated factors specifically in Chinese women undergoing mastectomy. Results determined the importance of several psychological factors influencing mastectomy decisions. Future qualitative studies are required to deepen understanding of women's decision-making experiences regarding this surgery. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Nurses need to provide support to Chinese women in making treatment decisions, especially for older women, and those who are economically disadvantaged. Measures are needed to promote their involvement and improve their understanding of breast cancer and its treatments, which may help reduce decisional conflict, and potentially improve their satisfaction with treatment and quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody for breast cancer, faces global accessibility challenges, primarily due to high costs. This study examines how changes in medical insurance policies and price adjustments influence Trastuzumab utilization in China, focusing on implementation challenges and their impact on drug accessibility and affordability. METHODS This retrospective study investigated Trastuzumab utilization among HER2-positive breast cancer patients at a tertiary hospital from May 2013 to December 2022 in JX, a prefecture-level city in eastern China. Patients were stratified based on their CerbB2 indicator, because those with a 2 + CerbB2 status require further FISH testing to confirm Trastuzumab eligibility. We analyzed the utilization rates of both FISH test and Trastuzumab using logistic regressions, identifying factors that influence their usage. RESULTS 766 patients were included. The utilization rate of Trastuzumab among patients with CerbB2 3+ rose from 40.40 to 77.94% in September 2017 following the expansion of insurance coverage, and further increased to 90.41% after a price reduction in 2020. The FISH test was not covered by health insurance, and it was not available in the local hospital until Trastuzumab became available in JX city. For patients with CerbB2 2+, the proportion undergoing the FISH test increased dramatically from 8.89 to 82.08% after the price reduction in 2020. The mere inclusion into basic medical insurance, regardless of insurance types, significantly increased the utilization of Trastuzumab and the FISH test. However, rural patients in JX city are still facing financial burdens with Trastuzumab's out-of-pocket cost accounting for 62.9% of their annual disposable income in 2020. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate that insurance coverage and price reduction significantly increased Trastuzumab utilization. However, failure to improve the accessibility of the FISH test can pose challenges in enhancing the uptake of Trastuzumab among eligible patients. With the expiration of Trastuzumab's patent and the development of affordable biosimilars, there are now greater opportunities to enhance treatment access globally. These insights can inform policy makers of implementation guidance about providing financial support for breast cancer patients in other LMICs.

Abstract
PURPOSE This article provided a comprehensive scoping review, synthesizing existing literature on the financial distress faced by breast cancer patients. It examined the factors contributing to financial distress, the impact on patients, coping mechanisms employed, and potential alleviation methods. The goal was to organize existing evidence and highlight possible directions for future research. METHODS We followed the scoping review framework proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) to synthesize and report evidence. We searched electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library, for relevant literature. We included English articles that met the following criteria: (a) the research topic was financial distress or financial toxicity, (b) the research subjects were adult breast cancer patients, and (c) the article type was quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research. We then extracted and integrated relevant information for reporting. RESULTS After removing duplicates, 5459 articles were retrieved, and 43 articles were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles addressed four main themes related to financial distress: factors associated with financial distress, impact on breast cancer patients, coping mechanisms, and potential methods for alleviation. The impact of financial distress on patients was observed in six dimensions: financial expenses, financial resources, social-psychological reactions, support seeking, coping care, and coping lifestyle. While some studies reported potential methods for alleviation, few discussed the feasibility of these solutions. CONCLUSIONS Breast cancer patients experience significant financial distress with multidimensional impacts. Comprehensive consideration of possible confounding factors is essential when measuring financial distress. Future research should focus on exploring and validating methods to alleviate or resolve this issue.

Abstract
PURPOSE The rising cost of cancer treatment causes out-of-pocket spending among patients or caregivers in lower-middle-income countries, resulting in acute misery and insolvency. This study aimed to assess the financial toxicity associated with cancer treatment and the coping strategies for cancer treatment adopted among the caregivers of patients with cancer in a tertiary cancer care center. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted among the primary caregivers of patients with cancer undergoing curative treatment from March to June 2023. The estimated sample size was 403 caregivers. The financial toxicity was assessed using a modified Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity-Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy tool, and coping strategies were explored using a validated questionnaire of 20 questions. Univariate and multivariate analyses investigated the associations and factors influencing financial toxicity. RESULTS The caregivers recruited in the study were 403; 83.8% were younger than 50 years, and 66.5% were male. The common cancer types included were breast cancer (27.3%), GI cancer (17.9%), head and neck cancer (12.4%), and gynecological cancer (11.6%). The mean financial toxicity score was 22.32 (standard deviation, 9.55), with 64% experiencing moderate to severe financial toxicity. The most common coping strategies used were spending a portion or all of the savings, borrowing money from others, restructuring their spending habits, seeking financial assistance from the cancer center, and resorting to gold loans. CONCLUSION Screening patients and their primary caregivers using a modified COST tool can help identify families experiencing severe financial toxicity and provide necessary intervention.

Abstract
PURPOSE Financial toxicity has emerged as a prevalent psychosocial problem in cancer patients, but data on non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients receiving chemotherapy remain limited. The present study aims to explore financial toxicity and its influencing factors among non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients. METHODS A total of 236 non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients were enrolled from March to June 2023 in the oncology department of a tertiary grade-A hospital in China. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to analyze potential influences on financial, including general information, symptom burden, family and social support. RESULTS The financial toxicity score for non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients was (19.24 ± 6.97). Among them, 92 participants (38.98%) were classified as experiencing high levels of financial toxicity, with a COST score of ≤17.5 points. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that symptom burden accounting for 11.0% of the variance in financial toxicity, while family functioning and social support explained 5.8% and 4.9%, respectively. CONCLUSION The financial toxicity of non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients needs to be further improved. Patients with low household income, unemployment, high symptom burden, and inadequate family and social support may experience severe financial toxicity. Financial toxicity of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients must be assessed and targeted interventions must be implemented to reduce their financial burden.

Abstract
Objective We assessed financial toxicity (FT) among Chinese patients with cancer and investigated associated risk factors guided by a multilevel conceptual framework. Methods Applying multistage stratified sampling, we selected six tertiary and six secondary hospitals across three economically diverse provinces in China. From February to October 2022, 1208 patients with cancer participated. FT was measured using the COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity (COST), with 28 potential risk factors identified at multilevel. Multiple regression analysis was used for risk factor identification. Results FT prevalence was 82.6% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 80.5%, 84.8%), with high FT (COST score ≤ 18.5) observed in 40.9% of participants (95% CI: 38.1%, 43.7%). Significant risk factors included younger age at cancer diagnosis, unmarried status, low annual household income, negative impact of cancer on participants' or family caregiver's work, advanced cancer stage, longer hospital stay for cancer treatment or treatment-related side effects, high perceived stress, poor emotional/informational support, lack of social medical insurance or having urban and rural resident basic medical insurance, lack of commercial medical insurance, tertiary hospital treatment, and inadequate cost discussions with healthcare providers (all P < 0.05). Conclusions Cancer-related FT is prevalent in China, contributing to disparities in cancer care access and health-related outcomes. The risk factors associated with cancer-related FT encompasses multilevel, including patient/family, provider/practice, and payer/policy levels. There is an urgent need for collective efforts by patients, healthcare providers, policymakers, and insurers to safeguard the financial security and well-being of individuals affected by cancer, promoting health equities in the realm of cancer care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Understanding cancer patients' unmet needs for chemotherapy-related symptom management will assist clinicians in developing tailored intervention programs. Little is known about the association between perceived communication efficacy and unmet care needs for symptom management in patients with lung and colorectal cancer. OBJECTIVES To examine the unmet care needs for symptom management of patients with lung and colorectal cancer and their association with perceived communication efficacy. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a tertiary hospital in China from July to November 2020. A convenience sample of 203 patients with lung and colorectal cancer undergoing chemotherapy completed survey questionnaires, including the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory Scale and the Perceived Efficacy in Patient‒Physician Interactions Scale. RESULTS Approximately 43% of participants had at least one symptom with unmet needs. Fatigue was reported as the symptom with the highest occurrence (66%), the highest demand for supportive care (36%), and the highest prevalence of unmet needs (19%). Low levels of perceived communication efficacy independently predicted participants' unmet needs for symptom management (β=-0.13, p = 0.011). CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the necessity of introducing clinical assessment tools and guidelines to address fatigue and other chemotherapy-induced symptoms in patients with lung and colorectal cancer. Clinical programs designed to actively engage cancer patients to voice their needs and strengthen their communication efficacy are also warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Cancer cachexia is a debilitating condition with widespread negative effects. The heterogeneity of clinical features within patients with cancer cachexia is unclear. The identification and prognostic analysis of diverse phenotypes of cancer cachexia may help develop individualized interventions to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. The aim of this study was to show that the machine learning-based cancer cachexia classification model generalized well on the external validation cohort. METHODS This was a nationwide multicenter observational study conducted from October 2012 to April 2021 in China. Unsupervised consensus clustering analysis was applied based on demographic, anthropometric, nutritional, oncological, and quality-of-life data. Key characteristics of each cluster were identified using the standardized mean difference. We used logistic and Cox regression analysis to evaluate 1-, 3-, 5-y, and overall mortality. RESULTS A consensus clustering algorithm was performed for 4329 patients with cancer cachexia in the discovery cohort, and four clusters with distinct phenotypes were uncovered. From clusters 1 to 4, the clinical characteristics of patients showed a transition from almost unimpaired to mildly, moderately, and severely impaired. Consistently, an increase in mortality from clusters 1 to 4 was observed. The overall mortality rate was 32%, 40%, 54%, and 68%, and the median overall survival time was 21.9, 18, 16.7, and 13.6 mo for patients in clusters 1 to 4, respectively. Our machine learning-based model performed better in predicting mortality than the traditional model. External validation confirmed the above results. CONCLUSIONS Machine learning is valuable for phenotype classifications of patients with cancer cachexia. Detection of clinically distinct clusters among cachexic patients assists in scheduling personalized treatment strategies and in patient selection for clinical trials.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the influence factors of financial toxicity experienced by colorectal cancer patients after surgery. The results will provide deep insights for developing effective intervention strategies to address this common issue of colorectal cancer care. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we recruited 213 postoperative patients with colorectal cancer from February 2023 to July 2023 in two major public hospitals. Patients completed the General Information Questionnaire, Comprehensive Scores for Financial Toxicity (COST), Self-perceived Burden Scale (SPBS), Family Resilience Questionnaire (FaREQ), and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). A multiple linear regression model was used to investigate the influence factors of financial toxicity. RESULTS The mean score of financial toxicity was medium (18.91 ± 7.90) in this study. Financial toxicity score was negatively correlated with self-perceived burden (r = -0.333, P < 0.01) and positively associated with family resilience (r = 0.365, P < 0.01) and social support (r = 0.388, P < 0.01). Via multiple linear regression analysis, we identified seven significant factors associated with financial toxicity, including family income [(95 %CI: 1.075-3.123); P = 0.000], self-perceived burden [(95 %CI: 0.300∼-0.038); P = 0.012], stoma [(95 %CI: 5.309∼-1.682); P = 0.000], social support [(95 %CI:0.058-0.407); P = 0.009], cancer stage [(95 %CI: 2.178∼-0.170); P = 0.022], postoperative duration [(95 %CI: 1.900∼-0.332); P = 0.005], and family resilience [(95 %CI: 0.028-0.203); P = 0.010]. CONCLUSIONS Financial toxicity was prevalent among postoperative colorectal cancer patients. Additional support and early interventions should be given to high-risk patients, including those with stomas, advanced disease stages, or experiencing longer postoperative duration. Apart from demographic factors, we identified that self-perceived burden, family resilience, and social support were also associated with financial toxicity, providing a new perspective for developing effective strategies against financial toxicity.

Abstract
PURPOSE The high cost of cancer treatment exposes patients to financial toxicity during treatment; however, no study has comprehensively analyzed the incidence of financial toxicity using a validated assessment tool. In this study, the objective was to ascertain the incidence of financial toxicity in cancer patients and the factors influencing it. METHODS Nine electronic databases were retrieved to collect cross-sectional studies reporting financial toxicity in cancer patients. A random effects meta-analysis was applied to yield the overall prevalence of financial toxicity. Subgroup analyses were conducted depending on the factors affecting financial toxicity. RESULTS In total, 30 studies met our inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of financial toxicity in cancer patients was 48% (95%CI:38%-58%, I2 = 99.4%, p < 0.001). In the subgroup analysis, a higher prevalence of financial toxicity in patients aged <67 years (47%, 95%CI: 28%-66%, I2 = 97.5%, p < 0.001), female (46%, 95%CI:39%-53%, I2 = 94.9%,p < 0.001), lung cancer(57%, 95%CI:38%-75%, I2 = 96.9%, p < 0.001), developing countries (64%, 95%CI:55%-72%, I2 = 98.1%, p < 0.001), time of investigation following COVID-19 (53%, 95%CI:37%-69%, I2 = 99.4%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Financial toxicity is prevalent in cancer patients and is increasingly evident after COVID-19. Furthermore, the odds of financial toxicity are higher in patients who are female, younger, whose cancer type is lung cancer, and from developing countries. These findings emphasize the significance of evaluating financial toxicity in cancer patients after COVID-19, especially in developing countries. This may play a pivotal role in helping patients cope with financial toxicity.

Abstract
PURPOSE These systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to discuss the financial toxicity (FT) level among breast cancer (BC) patients and the associated demographic and economic factors. METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis of single means were used by following the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and PRISMA guidance. Untransformed means (MRAW) were used to estimate the confidence interval for individual studies, while I2 and tau2 statistics were used to examine heterogeneity among pooled studies. Electronic databases were PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Ovid MEDLINE(R), Science Direct, and Turkish databases were used to find relevant studies published in the last 15 years (between 2008 and 2023). RESULTS A total of 50 studies were reviewed in the systematic review, and 11 were included in the overall and subgroup meta-analyses. The majority of reviewed studies were from the USA (38 studies), while there were four studies from China and eight studies from other countries having different types of health systems. The overall estimated FT level based on 11 pooled studies was 23.19, meaning mild level FT in the range of four categories (no FT score > 25, mild FT score 14-25, moderate FT score 1-13, and severe FT score equal to 0), with a 95% CI of 20.66-25.72. The results of subgroup meta-analyses showed that the estimated FT levels were higher among those patients who were single, with lower education levels, stage 3 patients, younger, lower income, unemployed, and living in other countries compared to those who were married, more educated, and stages 1 and 2 patients, more aged, more income, employed, and patients in the USA. CONCLUSION The cost-effectiveness of the treatment strategies of BC depends on the continuity of care. However, FT is one of the leading factors causing BC patients to use the required care irregularly, and it has a negative effect on adherence to treatment. So, removing the economic barriers by taking appropriate measures to decrease FT will increase the efficiency of already allocated resources to BC treatments and improve the health outcomes of BC patients.

Abstract
In China, older cancer survivors may show heterogeneity in financial toxicity (FT). We aimed to identify FT profiles among older Chinese cancer survivors and examine the association between FT profiles and individual characteristics. We used a latent profile analysis to categorize participants and a multinomial logistic regression to examine the associations. We identified three distinct FT profiles: high, moderate, and low. Participants aged 65-69 years, with a monthly household income ≥ 5,000 CNY and a high school education or above were more likely to be classified into the moderate than high FT profile, a monthly household income ≥ 5,000 CNY increased the likelihood of being in the low FT profile and living alone negatively affected the odds of being in the low FT profile. The findings identified heterogeneity in FT among this population, may help identify high-risk groups, and may enable early intervention.

Abstract
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that confers a substantial financial burden to patients. The aim of the current study was to assess the patient-reported financial impact of HS. Patients presenting to a wound center between 2010 and 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Demographics, comorbidities, and disease characteristics were collected. The financial impact of HS was assessed via the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity - Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (COST-FACIT) version 2 and investigator-generated surveys. Of 199 patients contacted, 27.1% (n = 54) completed the survey. The majority were women (77.8%, n = 42) and had private health insurance (n = 30; 55.6%). Most patients (66.7%, n = 36) had Hurley stage III disease. Mean follow-up was 2.3 + 2.8 years. The overall COST score was 19.7 + 12.4, indicating grade 1 financial toxicity (FT). Grade 0 FT was reported in 31.5% (n = 17) of patients, grade 1 in 37.0% (n = 20), grade 2 in 27.8% (n = 15), and grade 3 in 3.7% (n = 2). The mean self-reported 12-month out-of-pocket cost and credit scores were $2250 + 3269.24 and 674.6 + 95.3, respectively. Patients with private insurance had lower FT compared with Medicaid and Medicare (p = 0.003). Higher out-of-pocket costs were positively correlated with FT (p = 0.042), while higher credit scores were negatively correlated (p = 0.003). Patients with HS lesions in three or more anatomic regions reported the highest FT (p = 0.031). HS is a debilitating skin disorder that affects the livelihood of patients in a multifaceted manner. These patient-reported outcomes highlight the impact that HS has on an individual's financial security, calling for further attention to this vulnerable population.

Abstract
This systematic review examined cancer care costs, the financial burden for patients, and their economic coping strategies in mainland China. We included 38 quantitative studies that reported out-of-pocket payment for cancer care and patients' coping strategies in English or Chinese (PROSPERO: CRD42021273989). We searched PubMed, Embase, Ovid, Web of Science, Cochrane, CNKI, and Wanfang Data from 1 January 2009 to 10 August 2022. We referred to the standards for reporting observational studies to assess the methodological quality and transparent reporting of the included studies and reported the costs narratively. Annual mean medical costs (including inpatient and outpatient costs and fees for self-purchasing drugs) ranged from USD 7421 to USD 10,297 per patient. One study investigated medical costs for 5 years and indicated that inpatient costs accounted for 51.6% of the total medical costs, followed by self-purchasing drugs (43.9%). Annual medical costs as a percentage of annual household income ranged from 36.0% to 63.1% with a metaproportion of 51.0%. The common coping strategies included borrowing money and reduction of household expenses and expenses from basic health services. Costs of inpatient care and self-purchasing drugs are major drivers of medical costs for cancer care, and many affected households shoulder a very heavy financial burden.
