Electrochemical determination of vanillin using 2D/2D heterostructure based on ZnCr-layered double hydroxide and g-CN

Neodymium niobate nanospheres on functionalized carbon nanofibers: a nanoengineering approach for highly sensitive vanillin detection

Vanillin (VAN), the primary aroma compound in vanilla, contributes significantly to sensory delight; however, its unrestrained presence poses notable health risks. In response to the demanding concern regarding food safety, researchers have directed their efforts towards the detection of VAN, seeking sustainable strategies for contamination prevention. A groundbreaking solution has emerged in the form of a novel sensing platform, whose core lies on a finely tuned electrode, crafted through the incorporation of nano-sized NdNbO4 spheres onto carbon nanofibers (CNFs). This incorporation serves to augment the capabilities of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), transforming it into a highly sensitive detector primed for vanillin detection. The NdNbO4/f-CNF nanocomposite embodies a paradigm of synergistic collaboration, wherein the nonlinear cumulative effects of synergism and quantum confinement impart exceptional performance characteristics. Notably, the sensor achieves a low detection limit of 6.3 nmol L-1, indicative of its remarkable sensitivity of 2.3 μA μ(mol L-1)-1 cm-2 and precision of 1.519 and 4.72%. Moreover, the sensor boasts a wide linear range spanning from 0.001 to 63.101 μmol L-1. These attributes, coupled with its discerning selectivity and robust stability, underscore its efficacy as a versatile tool for vanillin detection. Indeed, its successful deployment in monitoring food samples underscores its applicability across diverse culinary contexts, further cementing its status as a pivotal asset in safeguarding food quality and consumer well-being.

Synchronous activation of praseodymium vanadate/graphitic carbon nitride nanocomposite: A promising electrode material for detection of flavonoid- Quercetin

Flavonoids or phenolic compounds are part of the daily intake of every human being. Though they are positive traders for metabolism, excessive intakes bring about detrimental impacts on human health. Herein, the anti-cancer capacitive nature quercetin (Qc) was electrochemically detected through the rare earth metal-based sphere like praseodymium vanadate (PrVO4) entrapped graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) as electrode modifiers. The nanocomposite was prepared by the one-pot hydrothermal method and characterized by phase compositional and morphology-based techniques. The existing synergistic nature between the PrV@g-CN (praseodymium vanadate@graphitic carbon nitride) makes them have an enhanced electrochemical response towards the Qc than the individual material. The obtained cyclic voltammogram and differential pulse voltammogram profile show one major oxidation peak which is attributed to the conversion of quercetin to quercetin-o-quinone. The PrV@g-CN/GCE (GCE- glassy carbon electrode) shows a good electrochemical active surface area (A = 110 cm2) and linear range between 0.05 and 252.00 μM with a LOD (limit of detection) of 0.002 µM. Moreover, the PrV@g-CN/GCE exhibits good current retention (94.76 %) around 14 days and appreciable repeatability (RSD- 0.5 %) and reproducibility (RSD- 1.3 %) towards the Qc. The real-time implementation of the proposed sensor exhibits a good recovery range towards the black tea (95.00-98.10 %) and green tea (97.80-99.60 %).

Progress of charge carrier dynamics and regulation strategies in 2D CxNy-based heterojunctions

Two-dimensional carbon nitrides (CxNy) have gained significant attention in various fields including hydrogen energy development, environmental remediation, optoelectronic devices, and energy storage owing to their extensive surface area, abundant raw materials, high chemical stability, and distinctive physical and chemical characteristics. One effective approach to address the challenges of limited visible light utilization and elevated carrier recombination rates is to establish heterojunctions for CxNy-based single materials (e.g. C2N3, g-C3N4, C3N4, C4N3, C2N, and C3N). The carrier generation, migration, and recombination of heterojunctions with different band alignments have been analyzed starting from the application of CxNy with metal oxides, transition metal sulfides (selenides), conductive carbon, and Cx'Ny' heterojunctions. Additionally, we have explored diverse strategies to enhance heterojunction performance from the perspective of carrier dynamics. In conclusion, we present some overarching observations and insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with the development of advanced CxNy-based heterojunctions.
