Abstract
Introduction Exogenous and endogenous sex hormones, especially Progesterone agonists, may be causally linked to meningioma progression. Cessation of treatment leads to stabilization or regression of Progestin-induced meningioma. In many cases, avoiding sex hormone therapy may be possible in the context of meningioma treatment. However, hormonal treatment is not always easily replaceable and concise real-world recommendations regarding sex hormones and meningioma are lacking. Material and methods A combined effort was initiated between Neurosurgical, Gynaecological and Endocrinological societies of Belgium to gather relevant information regarding sex hormone therapies and meningioma. After complete literature review, consensual recommendations were established. Results Collegial recommendations regarding sex hormones therapies and meningioma in the context of oral contraceptives, menopause hormonal treatment, fertility treatment, pregnancy and gender-affirming therapies are emitted and nuanced. Discussion and conclusion Withdrawal and monitoring of sex hormone therapies are discussed in detail.A decision tree regarding Meningioma and Combined contraception, Progestin Contraception, Menopause Hormonal treatment, Progestin and Gender-affirming therapy is suggested.

Abstract
The role of prior head trauma in stimulating brain tumor development has been previously described in the literature but continues to be debated. The goal of this study was to conduct a systematic review interrogating the contemporary literature to delineate any possible relationship between traumatic brain injury and brain tumor development. A systematic review exploring development of post-TBI brain tumor was conducted by searching electronic databases. Abstracts from articles were read and selected for full-text review according to criteria previously established in the scientific literature. Relevant full-text articles were divided into case reports and single-arm studies and epidemiological studies. Of 1070 resultant articles, 18 case reports and single-arm studies (level of evidence of IV and V) with 45 patients were included. The most common cause of TBI was traffic accidents. The average period between TBI and subsequent tumor diagnosis was 12.8 years. Meningiomas represented the largest share of tumors, followed by gliomas. Most post-TBI brain tumors developed in the frontal and temporal lobes. Fifteen epidemiological studies were also interrogated from a variety of countries (level of evidence of III). Case-control studies were more common than cohort studies. There were 9 of 15 studies proposed a possible relationship between history of head trauma and development of brain tumor. The relationship between head trauma and neoplastic growth continues to be heavily debated. There are certainly case reports and epidemiological studies in the literature that suggest a correlational relationship between the two. However, there is no concrete evidence of a causal relationship between TBI and brain tumors. More research is needed to definitively delineate the extent of any such relationship.

Abstract
Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been reported as a risk factor for brain cancer development. However, the magnitude of the impact of TBI on systemic cancer development has not been clarified. Methods A retrospective longitudinal cohort study was conducted using the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database between January 2000 and December 2011. A total of 35,306 patients were initially enrolled, and 14,795 patients with mild TBI and 14,795 patients with moderate/severe TBI were matched using the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. The Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) of TBI adjusted for potential confounding factors. Results After matching, the results showed that patients with moderate/severe TBI had a high mortality rate (17.7% vs. 10.4%) and shorter time interval from TBI to death (mean 3.6 years vs. 5.8 years). No differences were observed in cancer incidence (4.1% vs. 4.1%) or risk factors for mortality between mild and moderate/severe TBI patients. However, patients aged between 46 and 55 years, female patients, and patients with pre-existing renal disease had a significant higher cancer incidence risk in moderate/severe TBI compared with mild TBI patients. The top 15 most common cancers showed that mild TBI patients had a higher percentage of head and neck cancer. The overall mortality rate in all TBI patients diagnosed with cancer was about 50%, and the cancer-specific mortality is approximately 85% in death of TBI patients with cancer. Conclusions We concluded that the incidence risk of a new cancer diagnosis and mortality risk of TBI patients with cancer between the mild TBI and moderate/severe TBI patients were not significantly different. Abstract
Background: Most meningiomas related to head trauma have been reported to show intradural lesions; however, they can also occur as primary extradural meningiomas (PEMs) and have often been reported to histologically demonstrate atypical or malignant subtypes. Therefore, early detection and complete resection of related tissues are required; however, to date, only a few PEM cases related to trauma or injury have been reported. Herein, we present a patient with a rapidly growing posttraumatic PEM, in which echosonography is efficient not only for early diagnosis but also for intraoperative strategies. Case Description: A 62-year-old male presented to a nearby clinic with a complaint of a painless head bump that gradually grew larger in relation to trauma 6 weeks earlier. He underwent echosonography and pointed out the possibility of a cranial tumor and consulted our hospital. Although preoperative imaging studies, such as computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, did not provide reliable information on dura mater invasion, echosonography demonstrated dural invasion and intradural lesions in which large vessels passed the surface of the lesion. Based on these findings, we could safely resect the lesion within a sufficient range. Conclusion: Echosonography may not only be a cue for an early diagnosis but also provide important information for the treatment strategy of PEM that is related to head trauma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pediatric meningiomas are rare, and only a few cases attributed to trauma and characterized by development at the site of bone fracture have been reported. Both pediatric and traumatic meningiomas have aggressive characteristics. OBSERVATIONS An 11-year-old boy who sustained a head injury resulting from a left frontal skull fracture 8 years previously experienced a convulsive attack. Imaging revealed a meningioma in the left frontal convexity. Total removal of the tumor with a hyperostotic section was successfully achieved. Intraoperative investigation showed tumor invasion into the adjacent frontal cortex. Histologically, the surgical specimen revealed a transitional meningioma with brain invasion and a small cluster of rhabdoid cells. This led to a final pathological diagnosis of an atypical meningioma with rhabdoid features. The postoperative course was uneventful, and no recurrence of the tumor was found after 2 years without adjuvant therapy. LESSONS This is the first report of a pediatric meningioma with rhabdoid features occurring at the site of a skull fracture. Meningiomas that contain rhabdoid cells without malignant features are not considered to be as aggressive as rhabdoid meningiomas. However, the clinical course must be carefully observed for possible long-term tumor recurrence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been reported as a risk factor for the development of brain tumors. However, whether TBI affects systemic cancer remains to be determined. We investigated the incidence and factors associated with cancer development in patients with TBI. METHODS A propensity score (age, gender, and comorbidity)-matched longitudinal cohort study of 34,556 patients with pre-existing TBI and 69,112 patients without TBI from January 2000 to December 2015 was presented using the Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database. The Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to estimate the hazard ratio of developing cancer adjusted by the potential confounding factors. The stratified analysis of age, gender, and comorbidities for each cancer type was evaluated using forest plot analysis. RESULTS The cancer incidence rate in the patients with TBI (4.38%) was greater than that in patients without TBI (3.88%). The interval to cancer development in those with TBI (5.65 ± 3.58 years) was shorter than that in those without TBI (6.02 ± 3.65 years). The cancer risk in those with TBI was increased 1.27-fold compared with that in the general population. Of the patients with TBI, age <55 years and male gender indicated a greater incidence of cancer than that of the general population. The patients with TBI had greater cancer frequencies in the head and neck structures compared with those in the general population. CONCLUSIONS TBI is a risk factor for cancer development, especially in males and those aged <55 years. We hope this information will remind physicians to consider the long-term effects of TBI on cancer development.

Abstract
Several radiation-related professional societies have concluded that carcinogenic risks associated with doses below 50-100 mSv are either too small to be detected, or are nonexistent. This is especially important in the context of doses from medical imaging. Radiation exposure to the public from medical imaging procedures is rising around the world, primarily due to increased utilization of computed tomography. Professional societies and advisory bodies consistently recommend against multiplying small doses by large populations to predict excess radiation-induced cancers, in large part because of the potential for sensational claims of health impacts which do not adequately take the associated uncertainties into account. Nonetheless, numerous articles have predicted thousands of future cancers as a result of CT scanning, and this has generated considerable concern among patients and parents. In addition, some authors claim that we now have direct epidemiological evidence of carcinogenic risks from medical imaging. This paper critically examines such claims, and concludes that the evidence cited does not provide direct evidence of low-dose carcinogenicity. These claims themselves have adverse public health impacts by frightening the public away from medically justified exams. It is time for the medical and scientific communities to be more assertive in responding to sensational claims of health risks.
