GM-Ledger: Blockchain-Based Certificate Authentication for International Food Trade

Maritime transportation plays a critical role for many Arab countries and their food security and has evolved into a complex system that involves a plethora of supply chain stakeholders spread around the globe. This inherent complexity brings huge security challenges, including cargo loss and high burdens in cargo document inspection. The emerging blockchain technology provides a promising tool to build a unified maritime cargo tracking system critical for cargo security. This is because blockchains are a tamper-proof distributed ledger technology that can store and track data in a secure and transparent manner. Using the State of Qatar as a case study, this research introduces the Global Maritime Ledger (GM-Ledger), which will aid authorities in verifying, signing and transacting food certificates in an efficient manner. The methodology of this research includes reviewing past publications, identifying the requirements of various players in the Qatari food import-export industry and then creating a smart contract framework that will efficiently manage the work with necessary human intervention as and when required. The result of this work is the formation of a solid framework that can be employed in future works. This work realized that employing web3 solutions for the food import sector is highly viable and that with the right social, economic and policy reforms, it is possible to transform the entire food system to bear healthy transparency and power balance in global supply chains. In conclusion, this study argues that BCT has the ability to assist the government and other players to minimize fraud and maximize food supply chain stakeholder participation.

A Comprehensive Survey on Pandemic Patient Monitoring System: Enabling Technologies, Opportunities, and Research Challenges

Sporadic occurrences of transmissible diseases have severe and long-lasting effects on humankind throughout history. These outbreaks have molded the political, economic, and social aspects of human life. Pandemics have redefined some of the basic beliefs of modern healthcare, pushing researchers and scientists to develop innovative solutions to be better equipped for future emergencies. Numerous attempts have been made to fight Covid-19-like pandemics using technologies such as the Internet of Things, wireless body area network, blockchain, and machine learning. Since the disease is highly contagious, novel research in patients' health monitoring system is essential for the constant monitoring of pandemic patients with minimal or no human intervention. With the ongoing pandemic of SARS-CoV-2, popularly known as Covid-19, innovations for monitoring of patients' vitals and storing them securely have risen more than ever. Analyzing the stored patients' data can further assist healthcare workers in their decision-making process. In this paper, we surveyed the research works on remote monitoring of pandemic patients admitted in hospitals or quarantined at home. First, an overview of pandemic patient monitoring is given followed by a brief introduction of enabling technologies i.e. Internet of Things, blockchain, and machine learning to implement the system. The reviewed works have been classified into three categories; remote monitoring of pandemic patients using IoT, blockchain-based storage or sharing platforms for patients' data, and processing/analyzing the stored patients' data using machine learning for prognosis and diagnosis. We also identified several open research issues to set directions for future research.

Vaccine supply chain coordination using blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies

Currently, the global spread of COVID-19 is taking a heavy toll on the lives of the global population. There is an urgent need to improve and strengthen the coordination of vaccine supply chains in response to this severe pandemic. In this study, we consider a vaccine supply chain based on a combination of artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies and model the supply chain as a two-player dynamic game with inventory level as the dynamic equation of the system. The study focuses on the applicability and effectiveness of the two technologies in the vaccine supply chain and provides management insights. The impact of the application of the technologies on environmental performance is also considered in the model. We also examine factors such as the number of people vaccinated, positive and side effects of vaccines, vaccine decay rate, revenue-sharing/cost-sharing ratio, and commission ratio. The results are as follows: the correlation between the difficulty in obtaining certified vaccines and the profit of a vaccine manufacturer is not monotonous; the vaccine manufacturer is more sensitive to changes in the vaccine attenuation rate. The study's major conclusions are as follows: First, the vaccine supply chain should estimate the level of consumers' difficulty in obtaining a certified vaccine source and the magnitude of the production planning and demand forecasting error terms before adopting the two technologies. Second, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is meaningful in the vaccine supply chain when the error terms satisfy a particular interval condition.

Trust based COVID-19 vaccine distribution using blockchain technology

The COVID-19 outbreak has impacted huge number of individuals all around the world and has caused a great economic loss all over the world. Vaccination is most effective solution to prevent this disease. It helps in protecting the whole community. It improves the human immune system and fights against corona virus reducing the death rate. This paper deals with the different types of COVID-19 vaccine and their related distribution, it includes measures to ensure safe and secured distribution of the vaccine through block chain technology with the help of supply chain. Any malfunction in the chain is identified by the trust value of the function point method and the value of the Markov Chain.

How a Blockchain Approach Can Improve Data Reliability in the COVID-19 Pandemic

The rapid spread of COVID-19 made it necessary to quickly collect and share viral genomic sequences, sometimes making quantity prevail over the quality of information. Can research pay this price? A Comprehensive Review of the Technological Solutions to Analyse the Effects of Pandemic Outbreak on Human Lives

A coronavirus outbreak caused by a novel virus known as SARS-CoV-2 originated towards the latter half of 2019. COVID-19's abrupt emergence and unchecked global expansion highlight the inability of the current healthcare services to respond to public health emergencies promptly. This paper reviews the different aspects of human life comprehensively affected by COVID-19. It then discusses various tools and technologies from the leading domains and their integration into people's lives to overcome issues resulting from pandemics. This paper further focuses on providing a detailed review of existing and probable Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Blockchain-based solutions. The COVID-19 pandemic brings several challenges from the viewpoint of the nation's healthcare, security, privacy, and economy. AI offers different predictive services and intelligent strategies for detecting coronavirus signs, promoting drug development, remote healthcare, classifying fake news detection, and security attacks. The incorporation of AI in the COVID-19 outbreak brings robust and reliable solutions to enhance the healthcare systems, increases user's life expectancy, and boosts the nation's economy. Furthermore, AR/VR helps in distance learning, factory automation, and setting up an environment of work from home. Blockchain helps in protecting consumer's privacy, and securing the medical supply chain operations. IoT is helpful in remote patient monitoring, distant sanitising via drones, managing social distancing (using IoT cameras), and many more in combating the pandemic. This study covers an up-to-date analysis on the use of blockchain technology, AI, AR/VR, and IoT for combating COVID-19 pandemic considering various applications. These technologies provide new emerging initiatives and use cases to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, we discuss challenges and potential research paths that will promote further research into future pandemic outbreaks.
