Abstract
Endodontic treatment comprises the overall management of pre-, intra- and post-operative symptoms, including post-operative endodontic pain, considered as a complication susceptible of chronicization. Post-operative pain is very common and highly unpreventable and has a multi-factorial etiology and a potential pathogenic link to the acute inflammation of the periapical area, secondary to localized chemical, mechanical, host and/or microbial damage occurring during endodontic treatment. Considering the multitude of heterogeneous technical and pharmacological approaches proposed to control post-operative endodontic pain, the present study primarily comprised an overview of systematic reviews of systematic reviews of randomized clinical trials, summarizing findings on post-operatively administered oral medications for post-operative endodontic pain control, in order to note the most effective type and dosage of such drugs. Secondarily, a narrative review of the current evidence on technical solutions to be observed during endodontic treatment procedures, to control post-operative pain, was conducted to provide integrated evidence-based clinical recommendations for optimal post-operative endodontic pain management.

Abstract
Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have become known to present with different oral symptoms. However, xerostomia remains poorly recognized compared with taste dysfunction. For better understanding of COVID-19 symptomatology, xerostomia associated withCOVID-19 was characterized and its possible pathogenesis was speculated by a narrative literature review. Scientific articles were retrieved by searching PubMed, LitCovid, ProQuest, Google Scholar, medRxiv and bioRxiv from 1 April 2020 with a cutoff date of 30 September 2021. Results of the literature search indicated that xerostomia is one of prevalent and persistent oral symptoms associated with COVID-19. In contrast to taste dysfunction, the prevalence and persistence of xerostomia do not necessarily depend on ethnicity, age, gender and disease severity of patients. COVID-19 xerostomia is pathogenically related to viral cellular entry-relevant protein expression, renin-angiotensin system disturbance, salivary gland inflammation, zinc deficiency, cranial neuropathy, intercurrent taste dysfunction, comorbidities and medications. Despite a close association with COVID-19, xerostomia, dry mouth and hyposalivation tend to be overlooked unlike ageusia, dysgeusia and hypogeusia. Although mouth dryness per se is not life-threating, it has an impact on the oral health-related quality of life. More attention should be paid to xerostomia in COVID-19 patients and survivors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the association between dental implant therapy and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) in osteoporotic patients and the relationship between tooth extraction, dental implantation, and ONJ. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective cohort study used the Customized Health Information Data from the National Health Insurance Corporation in South Korea. The study population included patients older than 70 years with a history of osteoporosis; the cases included patients who had undergone dental implant surgery between July 2014 and July 2016 with specific procedure codes. The case and control cohorts were stratified by tooth extraction because it was the strongest risk factor to consider in this study. Each group of patients was matched using the propensity score. To investigate the relationship between dental implants and ONJ, a Cox proportional hazard model was applied to socio-economic factors, comorbidities, and bisphosphonates (BPs). All analyses were conducted using SAS statistical software. RESULTS Based on the fully adjusted model, the propensity score-matched osteoporosis patients with dental implants had a 0.51 times hazard ratio of osteonecrosis. On the contrary, tooth extraction was associated with a higher risk of ONJ (HR = 5.89). The patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and those using BPs had a higher HR, respectively, 6.80 and 4.09 HR (p < .001). CONCLUSIONS Dental implantation was not a risk factor and patients with implants show rather lower ratios. However, older osteoporotic Korean patients who had undergone tooth extraction had higher risks of ONJ. A significantly higher risk of ONJ was associated with RA and BPs as well.

Abstract
PURPOSE The association between the tumor subsites of the oral cavity and the risk of osteoradionecrosis of the jaw (ORNJ) remains unclear. We study the correlation between oral cavity tumor subsites and the risk of ORNJ in a nationwide population-based database. METHODS We enrolled 16,701 adult patients with oral cavity cancers who were treated with radiotherapy between 2000 and 2013. The subsites of the oral tumor, treatments of oral cavity cancers, and the timing of tooth extraction were examined for their association with ORNJ in oral cancer patients. RESULTS 903 patients (5.40%) developed ORNJ. Of the relevant variables, pre-RT mandible surgery, tooth extraction either before or after RT, and tumor sites were associated with the risk of ORNJ. The adjusted HRs for ORNJ in the mouth floor, gums, retromolar, and buccal cancer were 2.056 (1.490-2.837), 1.909 (1.552-2.349), 1.683 (1.105-2.562), and 1.303 (1.111-1.528), respectively, compared with the risk of tongue cancer. There was no significant difference in the risk of ORNJ between the pre-RT extraction group, the during-RT extraction group, and the post-RT extraction (less than 6 months) group; the post-RT extraction (more than 6 months) group had a significantly higher risk of ORNJ. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that oral cavity tumor subsite is an independent risk factor of ORNJ after RT. Post-RT extraction (less than 6 months) group did not carry a significantly higher risk of ORNJ compared with pre-RT extraction group or during RT extraction group.
