Abstract
Cobalt sulfide (CoS) is a promising battery-type material for electrochemical energy storage. However, the poor conductivity and slow charge transfer kinetics as well as the deficiency of electrochemically active sites seriously limit their applications. Herein, a class of the P-doping induced hexagonal CoS nanosheets with S defects (P-CoS1-x) derived from Co-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) supported on carbon nanotube film (CNT) is designed and prepared. The density functional theory (DFT) simulations show the higher conductivity of the P-CoS1-x electrode than CoS. Taking advantage of the synergistic effects of the high conductive P-CoS nanosheets with rich S defects and the flexible CNT, the P-CoS1-x/CNT electrode exhibits a high reversible capacity of 4.3F cm-2, remarkable rate capability, and outstanding long-term cyclability. Impressively, the flexible asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) based on P-CoS1-x//CoS@PPy achieves a satisfying energy density of 0.18 mWh cm-2 and high bending stability. The electrocatalytic result suggests that the P-CoS1-x possesses the lowest overpotential and the smallest Tafel slope. This vacancy engineering strategy also provides a new insight into active materials and should be beneficial for the design of the next generation of energy storage devices.

Abstract
Copper-silver and cobalt-silver alloy nanoparticles deposited on reduced graphene oxide (CuAg/rGO and CoAg/rGO) were synthesized and examined as electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen peroxide reduction reaction (HPRR) in alkaline media. Characterization of the prepared samples was done by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy with integrated energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). CuAg/rGO and CoAg/rGO nanoparticles diameter ranged from 0.4 to 9.2 nm. The Ag loading was ca. 40 wt.% for both electrocatalysts, with that for Cu and Co being 35 and 17 wt.%, respectively. CoAg/rGO electrocatalyst showed a Tafel slope of 109 mV dec−1, significantly lower than that for CuAg/rGO (184 mV dec−1), suggesting faster ORR kinetics. Additionally, a higher diffusion current density was obtained for CoAg/rGO (−2.63 mA cm−2) than for CuAg/rGO (−1.74 mA cm−2). The average value of the number of electrons transferred during ORR was 2.8 for CuAg/rGO and 3.3 for CoAg/rGO electrocatalyst, further confirming the higher ORR activity of the latter. On the other hand, CuAg/rGO showed higher peak current densities (−3.96 mA cm−2) for HPRR compared to those recorded for CoAg/rGO electrocatalyst (−1.96 mA cm−2).

Abstract
Improving the stability of electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) through materials design has received less attention than improving their catalytic activity. We explored the effects of Mn addition to a cobalt oxide for stabilizing the catalyst by comparing single phase CoOx and (Co0.7Mn0.3)Ox films electrodeposited in alkaline solution. The obtained disordered films were classified as layered oxides using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The CoOx films showed a constant decrease in the catalytic activity during cycling, confirmed by oxygen detection, while that of (Co0.7Mn0.3)Ox remained constant within error as measured by electrochemical metrics. These trends were rationalized based on XAS analysis of the metal oxidation states, which were Co2.7+ and Mn3.7+ in the bulk and similar near the surface of (Co0.7Mn0.3)Ox, before and after cycling. Thus, Mn in (Co0.7Mn0.3)Ox successfully stabilized the bulk catalyst material and its surface activity during OER cycling. The development of stabilization approaches is essential to extend the durability of OER catalysts.

Abstract
High-entropy nanoparticles have received notable attention due to their tunable properties and broad material space. However, these nanoparticles are not suitable for certain applications (e.g., battery electrodes), where their microparticle (submicron to micron) counterparts are more preferred. Conventional methods used for synthesizing high-entropy nanoparticles often involve various ultrafast shock processes. To increase the size thereby achieving high-entropy microparticles, longer reaction time (e.g., heating duration) is usually used, which may also lead to undesired particle overgrowth or even densified microstructures. In this work, an approach based on Joule heating for synthesizing high-entropy oxide (HEO) microparticles with uniform elemental distribution is reported. In particular, two key synthesis conditions are identified to achieve high-quality HEO microparticles: 1) the precursors need to be loosely packed to avoid densification; 2) the heating time needs to be accurately controlled to tens of seconds instead of using milliseconds (thermal shock) that leads to nanoparticles or longer heating duration that forms bulk structures. The utility of the synthesized HEO microparticles for a range of applications, including high-performance Li-ion battery anode and water oxidation catalyst. This study opens up a new door toward synthesizing high-entropy microparticles with high quality and broad material space.

Abstract
Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has arisen as an outstanding technology for energy generation, conversion, and storage. Herein, we investigated the synthesis of nickel-based hybrid metal oxides (Ni x M1-x O y ) and their catalytic performance towards OER. Ni x M1-x O y catalysts were synthesized by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) using the metal nitrates as oxidizer and glycine as fuel. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrographs display a porous morphology for the hybrid binary Ni x M1-x O y , the common feature of combusted materials. X-ray diffraction (XRD) of Ni x M1-x O y depicted well-defined diffraction peaks, which confirms the crystalline nature of synthesized catalysts. The particle size of as-synthesized materials ranges between 20 and 30 nm with a mesoporous nature as revealed by N2-physisorption. The electrocatalytic performance of the as-prepared materials was evaluated towards OER in alkaline medium. Among them, Ni x Co1-x O y showed the best catalytic performance. For instance, it exhibited the lowest overpotential at a current density of 10 mA cm-2 (404 mV), onset potential (1.605 V), and Tafel slope (52.7 mV dec-1). The enhanced electrocatalytic performance of Ni x Co1-x O y was attributed to the synergism between cobalt and nickel and the alteration of the electronic structure of nickel. Also, Ni x Co1-x O y afforded the highest Ni3+/Ni2+ when compared to other electrocatalysts. This leads to higher oxidation states of Ni species, which promote and improve the electrocatalytic activity.
