Abstract
Patient-centered care is a model in which, by bringing the patient's perspective to the design and delivery of health care, we can better meet patients' needs, enhancing the quality of care. Patient-centered care requires finding ways to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population that has various levels of health literacy, cultural backgrounds, and unique needs and preferences. Moreover, multimedia resources have the potential to inform and educate patients promoting greater independence. In this review, we discuss the fundamentals of communication with the different modes used in radiology and the key elements of effective communication. Then, we highlight five opportunities along the continuum of care in the radiology practice in which we can improve communications to empower our patients and families and strengthen this partnership. Lastly, we discuss the importance on communication training of the workforce, optimizing and seamlessly integrating technology solutions into our workflows, and the need for patient feedback in the design and delivery of care.

Abstract
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES The treatment of locally advanced lung cancer (LALC) with radiotherapy (RT) can be challenging. Multidisciplinary collaboration between radiologists and radiation oncologists (ROs) may optimize RT planning, reduce uncertainty in follow-up imaging interpretation, and improve outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this prospective clinical treatment trial (clinicaltrials.gov NCT04844736), 37 patients receiving definitive RT for LALC, six attending ROs, and three thoracic radiologists were consented and enrolled across four treatment centers. Prior to RT plan finalization, representative computed tomography (CT) slices with overlaid outlines of preliminary irradiation targets were shared with the team of radiologists. The primary endpoint was to assess feasibility of receiving feedback no later than 4 business days of RT simulation on at least 50% of plans. RESULTS Thirty-seven patients with lung cancer were enrolled, and 35 of 37 RT plans were reviewed. Of the 35 patients reviewed, mean age was 69 years. For 27 of 37 plans (73%), feedback was received within 4 or fewer days (interquartile range 3-4 days). Thirteen of 35 cases (37%) received feedback that the delineated target potentially did not include all sites suspicious for tumor involvement. In total, changes to the RT plan were recommended for over- or undercoverage in 16 of 35 cases (46%) and implemented in all cases. Radiology review resulted in no treatment delays and substantial changes to irradiated volumes: gross tumor volume, -1.9 to +96.1%; planning target volume, -37.5 to +116.5%. CONCLUSION Interdisciplinary collaborative RT planning using a simplified workflow was feasible, produced no treatment delays, and prompted substantial changes in RT targets.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The radiological report is the cornerstone of communication between radiologists and referring physicians and patients, respectively. The report is comprised of image interpretation on the one hand and communication of this interpretation on the other hand. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS To outline different types of radiological reports (regarding content as well as structure) and their communication. To this end, current guidelines are summarized and clinical examples are presented. RESULTS The radiological report is typically a written piece of free text prose and highly individualized regarding its quality, precision, and structure. In order to improve the understanding of the written report, additional material (e.g., annotations, images, tables) can be supplemented (multimedia-enhanced reporting). In terms of standardization, national and international radiological associations promote structured reporting in radiology. However, this is not without issues. CONCLUSION Effective communication should improve patient care and it should be clear and provided in a timely manner. As communication in clinical reality is often hampered by various factors, internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) should be developed to improve communication workflows. to improve communication procedures.

Abstract
The job of the diagnostic radiologist is two-fold: identifying and interpreting the information available from diagnostic imaging studies and communicating that interpretation meaningfully to the referring clinician. However skilled our interpretive abilities, our patients are not well served if we fail to convey our conclusions effectively. Despite the central importance of communication skills to the work of radiologists, trainees rarely receive significant formal training in reporting skills, and much of the training given simply reflects the trainer's personal preferences. Studies have shown a preference among referrers for reports in a structured form, with findings given in a standard manner, followed by a conclusion. The technical competence to incorporate structured report templates into PACS/RIS systems is growing, "...and radiology societies (including the European Society of Radiology (ESR)) are active in producing and validating templates for a wide range of modalities and clinical circumstances. While some radiologists may prefer prose format reports, and much literature has been produced addressing "dos and don'ts" for such prose reports, it seems likely that structured reporting will become the norm in the near future. Benefits will include homogenisation and standardisation of reports, certainty that significant information has not been omitted, and capacity for data-mining of structured reports for research and teaching purposes. TEACHING POINTS • The radiologist's job includes interpretation of imaging studies AND communication. • Traditionally, communication has taken the form of a prose report. • Referrers have been shown to prefer reports in a structured format. • Structured reports have many advantages over traditional prose reports. • It is likely that structured reports represent the future standard.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study explored interaction processes in conveying messages about the results of diagnostic imaging investigations in a public hospital complex in South Africa from the perspective of health care providers and patients. METHODS The study was part of a qualitative inquiry into the interaction and communication processes relating to diagnostic imaging investigations in the public health care system. Data collection included individual interviews with 24 patients and 62 health care providers (ie, medical practitioners, specialists, radiologists, registrars, radiographers, and nurses). In addition, 12 focus group interviews were conducted with health care providers. The transcribed data were coded and analysed to identify categories and themes. RESULTS Three main themes emerged from the study. The first theme deals with the medical territory, specifically who should interpret and convey the diagnostic results to the patient. The second theme highlights the role of radiographers and nurses in communicating parts of the diagnostic results. The last theme focuses on patient experience, interpretation, and comprehension in the provider-patient communication process. CONCLUSIONS The findings provide a multidimensional view about the disclosure of imaging results to patients by medical and nonmedical health care providers. Further research is needed on the role of nonmedical providers in the context of ethical and moral obligation toward patients and the professional restrictions inherent in their scope of practice.
