Background

The emergence of the green supply chain represents a natural evolution from the traditional model. However, this transition has created trust concerns in operational processes. Fortunately, blockchain technology offers a promising solution to address this issue and help businesses overcome related obstacles. As artificial intelligence and blockchain continue to advance, enterprises are increasingly exploring opportunities for green innovation investments, although the optimal timing for successful product innovation can be difficult to predict.

Methods

The effects of successful innovation on eco-friendly supply chains are analyzed through various factors such as optimal investment strategy, level of blockchain technology, and overall system profit. Differential game theory is used to determine the most effective approach across three alliance modes: horizontal cooperative, non-cooperative, and vertical cooperative. Additionally, the impact of innovation uncertainty on member strategies and alliance selection is thoroughly examined.

Results

According to the results, predicting the likelihood of innovation realization can influence decision makers to prioritize current profits. Both horizontal and vertical cooperative alliance models can lead to Pareto improvements in total system profit, both before and after innovation success. However, the vertical cooperative alliance model proves to be more effective, especially at higher realization rates. Green suppliers stand to benefit from the vertical cooperative alliance model, as it can enhance their innovative investment strategy, while platform cooperation does not significantly affect their strategy. Platforms, on the other hand, can benefit from the vertical cooperative alliance model, as it can promote their innovative investment strategy and level of blockchain technology.

Does structural social capital lead to proactive green innovation? a three-part serial mediation model

Enhancing green innovation for business sustainability represents a pressing global challenge. In the context of the manufacturing industry, the relationship between proactive green innovation (PGI) and structural social capital (SSC) remains a profoundly under-researched area. Drawing upon the theories of social capital and dynamic capability (DC), this study investigated the relationship between SSC and PGI within manufacturing enterprises via three individual and sequential mediating factors, namely cognitive social capital (CSC), relational social capital (RSC), and DC. Adopting a cross-sectional quantitative design, this study collected survey data from 485 manufacturing sector employees in China using purposive sampling. Structural equation modeling analysis of the data revealed no significant direct impact of SSC on PGI, but a strong indirect impact through the sequential mediating influences of CSC, RSC, and DC. The findings suggests that PGI within manufacturing enterprises is not wholly shaped by SSC; rather, firm-level dynamic capabilities, characterized by a sequential mechanism, plays a crucial role in achieving PGI within these enterprises. This paper offers both theoretical and practical contributions and provides recommendations for future research based on its limitations.

Responsible innovation in emerging markets’ SMEs: The role of alliance learning and absorptive capacity

This paper presents an examination of the role played by alliance learning in enabling emerging market small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop responsible innovation. SMEs based in emerging markets face significant challenges due to their weak resource base and the limited support they receive from formal institutions. In such a context, we argued that alliance learning takes a more prominent role in enabling these firms to develop responsible innovation via their absorptive capacity and sense-making competency. Drawn from 176 survey responses from SMEs originating from Pakistan, our findings shed light on the vital role played by alliance learning in enhancing SMEs’ responsible innovation. Specifically, the findings indicate that absorptive capacity acts as an important mechanism between alliance learning and responsible innovation. In addition, sense-making competency emerges as an important boundary condition and as a vital dynamic capability under which the effects of alliance learning on responsible innovation are stronger through the mediating mechanisms of absorptive capacity. These moderating-mediating findings contribute to the literature on dynamic capabilities and responsible innovation and provide important insights into the mechanisms and boundary conditions of responsible innovation in the context of emerging Asian markets.

Business analysts' contributions to the dynamic capabilities of agile software development teams

Purpose

Literature reveals ongoing debates around the role of business analysts in agile software development (ASD) teams. This can be attributed, in part, to a knowledge gap concerning how business analysts contribute to overall team capabilities, particularly those which are essential in enabling teams to respond to fast-paced environmental changes. The purpose of this study was to address this gap by investigating how business analysts (BAs) contribute to the dynamic capabilities of ASD teams.

Design/methodology/approach

Through a deductive approach, this study adapted and applied a research model based on the team dynamic capabilities (DC) theory to explore the contributions of BAs in agile teams. The study was executed using a qualitative, single case study research strategy directed at an ASD team in the financial services industry. Moreover, data were collected through face-to-face, semi-structured interviews; a focus group; non-participant observation and physical artefacts review. The thematic analysis technique was used to analyse the data.

Findings

The study contributes to teams DC theory through four theoretical propositions centred on the role of BAs. The proposition highlights how BAs relationship management, tacit knowledge sharing, task mental models and transactive memory are key contributors of ASD teams' DC. The study also found that BAs contribute to ASD teams' ability to embrace agile principles 2, 4, 6 and 12. This study can inform the design of capacity development programmes for individual team members and BAs and thus help managers curate teams that will best promote DC.

Originality/value

This study builds on the relatively few studies which focus on DC within software development (SD) teams and ASD project teams. Moreover, the study explores how an individual (i.e. a BA) can contribute to the DC of a team.
