Abstract
In peritoneal dialysis, the appearance of effluent with an abnormal appearance or color is usually a sign of a serious complication such as peritonitis. In other cases, it may be a specific event that lacks clinical importance. Even in these mild cases, the alarm and concern of patients and professionals can be high.

Abstract
Hyperpigmentation of the visceral peritoneum (HVP) is a hereditary trait that significantly affects the carcass quality in bearded chickens, yet its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study utilized data-independent acquisition proteomics to analyze the protein expression profiles of black peritoneum (B), faded peritoneum (F), and normal peritoneum (N) in bearded chickens at 40 and 120 d of age. Combined with histopathological and functional enrichment analyses, we revealed the regulatory network underlying HVP formation. Results indicated that the melanin content was significantly elevated in HVP samples, without accompanying inflammatory responses or tumor characteristics, suggesting that its formation is driven by developmental abnormalities. A total of 9,375 high-confidence proteins were identified through proteomics, with differentially abundant proteins at 40 d of age (219 proteins) primarily enriched in ribosomal function, tyrosine metabolism, and melanin synthesis pathways. In comparison, at 120 d of age (246 proteins), they were enriched in transcription regulation and chromatin remodeling pathways. The abnormal expression of key co-expressed proteins DHRS3 and DACT1 suggests that the dysregulation of retinoic acid (RA) and the Wnt signaling pathway may promote the directed differentiation of melanocytes by regulating neural crest cells (NCCs). The reduced abundance of the chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, VCAN, weakened the peritoneal barrier function, whereas estradiol accelerated melanin synthesis via hormonal microenvironmental regulation. Furthermore, the formation of HVP led to a reprogramming of energy metabolism, reduced fat deposition, and a downregulation of immune-related molecules, implying that pigment deposition may weaken the chicken immune response. This study systematically elucidates the molecular mechanisms of HVP and provides potential targets for molecular breeding of HVP.

Abstract
Endoscopic tattooing plays a pivotal role in modern endoscopic localization of gastrointestinal lesions, facilitating further surgical intervention and aiding in the postoperative identification and repositioning of lesions. However, traditional endoscopic tattoo dyes often suffer from drawbacks such as side effects, short tattoo duration, and high overall costs. In this study, we developed polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-modified polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles by oxidizing pyrrole in a PVP aqueous solution to create a PPy/PVP nanoparticle solution. This innovation aims to enhance endoscopic tattooing efficiency and mitigate the limitations associated with current tattooing methods. Both in vitro and in vivo evaluations confirmed the biosafety of PPy/PVP nanoparticles. Endoscopic tattooing experiments conducted in a pig model demonstrated the dye's stability within the digestive tract. Similarly, subcutaneous tissue tattooing experiments performed in a mouse model revealed the sustained stability of the PPy/PVP tattoo dye for at least 180 days. With its robust stability, safety, and longevity, PPy/PVP nanoparticles hold promise as novel tattoo dyes for marking intestinal lesion sites. This advancement has the potential to enhance the accuracy of lesion localization and long-term tracking.

Abstract
PURPOSE Identifying tumor location is important in colorectal tumor resection. Preoperative endoscopic India ink marking is a widespread practice, but local injection of ink is an unstable procedure. Although it is often invisible, the ink may be sprayed into the peritoneal cavity and contaminate the surgical field. At our hospital, we introduced fluorescent clip marking (FCM) using the Zeoclip FS®, an endoscopic clip developed using near-infrared fluorescent resin. We tested the usefulness of FCM by retrospectively comparing cases in which FCM was used with cases in which conventional ink marking was used. METHODS We enrolled 305 patients with colorectal tumors who underwent colorectal surgery after preoperative marking from January 2017 to April 2022. We classified the patients into the FCM group (86 patients) and the India ink tattoo group (219 patients). Endoscopic marking was completed in the FCM group by the day before surgery, and fluorescence was evaluated during surgery with a fluorescent laparoscopic system. Patient backgrounds, marking visibility, adverse effects, and early postoperative results were retrospectively compared between groups. RESULTS Marking was visually confirmed in 80 patients in the FCM group (93.02%) and in 166 patients in the India ink tattoo group (75.80%) (p = 0.0006). In the group with India ink tattoos, contamination of the surgical field was observed in seven cases (3.20%). No adverse events were observed in the FCM group. CONCLUSION In colorectal surgery, FCM provides better visibility than the conventional India ink tattooing method and is a simple and safe marking method. Abstract
Retrieval of lesions after endoscopic polypectomy enables histopathologic analysis and guides future surgical management and endoscopic surveillance intervals. Various techniques and devices have been described with distinct advantages and disadvantages to accomplish retrieval. Appropriate histopathologic analysis depends on lesion handling and preparation. How lesions are handled further depends on size, endoscopic appearance, and removal technique. Endoscopic marking or tattooing is a well-described process that uses dye mediums to leave longstanding marks in the colon. Techniques, dye mediums, and locations within the colon influence tattoo approach.

Abstract
PURPOSE We report a case in which pigmented peritoneal deposits were found during laparoscopic surgery following preoperative endoscopic tattooing for sigmoid colon cancer. METHODS The patient's clinical, endoscopic, and histological data from the Niigata City General Hospital were reviewed, as well as the literature on laparoscopic surgery involving the preoperative endoscopic tattoo, with a focus on the relevance of peritoneal deposits and tattooing ink. RESULTS A 71-year-old man presented to our hospital complaining of vomiting and abdominal distention. Abdominal computed tomography revealed obstructive sigmoid colon cancer. An emergency endoscopic colon stenting procedure and injection of 0.2 ml India ink to the submucosal layer of the tumor's anal side were performed. Laparoscopic-assisted sigmoid colectomy was done 14 days after stenting. At surgery, seven small peritoneal deposits were seen in the rectovesical pouch and at the site adjacent to the tumor. All peritoneal deposits were stained by the ink. Gross leakage of the ink into extraintestinal sites was seen. The seven peritoneal deposits were resected under laparoscope. Histological findings revealed that the seven peritoneal deposits were composed of adenocarcinoma and carbon pigments. Immunohistochemical staining for cluster of differentiation 163 showed that the carbon pigments in the peritoneal deposits were within macrophages. CONCLUSIONS The possibility of the tattooing procedure causing peritoneal dissemination cannot be completely denied, but it can be hypothesized that the carbon pigmentation was transferred to peritoneal deposits by macrophages. In the future, we hope that this phenomenon becomes a keystone for diagnoses and treatments for peritoneal dissemination.

Abstract
Endoscopic tattooing is a simple and effective technique for marking small lesions, so they can be localized during surgery or in later endoscopies. Various agents can be used such as India ink or a solution of purified carbon particles. The number of complications from tattooing is relatively small, but not rare. The majority of the literature on the subject refers to complications in the colon. We present a case of gastric bleeding secondary to a laceration following tattooing with purified carbon, and a literature review.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accurate tumor localization is essential for minimally invasive surgery. This study describes the development of a novel endoscopic fluorescent band ligation method for the rapid and accurate identification of tumor sites during surgery. METHODS AND MATERIALS The method utilized a fluorescent rubber band, made of indocyanine green (ICG) and a liquid rubber solution mixture, as well as a near-infrared fluorescence laparoscopic system with a dual light source using a high-powered light-emitting diode (LED) and a 785-nm laser diode. The fluorescent rubber bands were endoscopically placed on the mucosae of porcine stomachs and colons. During subsequent conventional laparoscopic stomach and colon surgery, the fluorescent bands were assayed using the near-infrared fluorescence laparoscopy system. RESULTS The locations of the fluorescent clips were clearly identified on the fluorescence images in real time. The system was able to distinguish the two or three bands marked on the mucosal surfaces of the stomach and colon. Resection margins around the fluorescent bands were sufficient in the resected specimens obtained during stomach and colon surgery. CONCLUSION These novel endoscopic fluorescent bands could be rapidly and accurately localized during stomach and colon surgery. Use of these bands may make possible the excision of exact target sites during minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery.

Abstract
Rare adverse effects of India ink injection spillage during colonoscopy have been reported. We present a case report in which prior colonoscopic India ink tattooing was found to mimic intraperitoneal endometriosis in a 48 year-old woman undergoing laparoscopic sterilization. Multiple black lesions suspicious for endometriosis involving the anterior and posterior cul-de-sac, left ovary, and omentum were found. A pathological assessment showed peritoneal tissue with focal dark pigment associated with mild chronic inflammation and deposition of tattoo pigment; there was no evidence of endometriosis in the specimens. Surgical recognition of tattoo ink spillage in the peritoneum is very important to prevent misinterpretation of peritoneal findings.

Abstract
Endoscopic tattooing is one of the most useful tools for the localization of small colorectal lesions especially in the laparoscopic setting. This is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure without risk of major complications. However, many studies have revealed complications resulting from this procedure. In this article, several topics are reviewed including the accuracy, substance preparation, injected techniques and complications related to this procedure.
