Abstract
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. This review conducts a thorough analysis of AML, addressing its genetic modification. The examination extends to the current therapeutic approaches employed for AML, shedding light on their efficacy and the notable side effects experienced by patients undergoing these treatments, leading to a low overall survival rate. Therefore, exploring alternative treatments, such as phytochemicals, is necessary. Furthermore, the review explores the complex landscape of phytochemicals, categorizing them based on their diverse properties, which include alkaloids, phenols, terpenoids, organo-sulfur compounds, and other compounds, including quinones, and elucidating their mechanisms of action. Special emphasis is placed on their involvement in critical signaling pathways, with a particular focus on how these phytochemicals impact AML when evaluated across a spectrum of cell lines. This in-depth exploration aims to uncover potential targets within the molecular landscape of AML where phytochemicals can exert their therapeutic effects. The review investigates the potential role of plant-derived phytochemicals as adjunctive therapies for AML. This exploration encompasses the identification of specific phytochemicals that exhibit promising anti-leukemic properties and evaluates their potential in clinical settings. Beyond conventional treatments, the review explores the integration of complementary and alternative medicine as a holistic approach to managing AML. The examination encompasses the synergy between conventional therapies and alternative interventions, exploring how these combined strategies may enhance overall therapeutic outcomes and mitigate side effects. From a forward-looking perspective, the overarching goal is to contribute to the evolving landscape of AML treatment by considering innovative approaches that harness the therapeutic potential of phytochemicals, both independently and in conjunction with established medical interventions.

Abstract
This systematic review identified various bioactive compounds which have the potential to serve as novel drugs or leads against acute myeloid leukemia. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous hematopoietic malignancy that arises from the dysregulation of cell differentiation, proliferation, and cell death. The risk factors associated with the onset of AML include long-term exposure to radiation and chemicals such as benzene, smoking, genetic disorders, blood disorders, advancement in age, and others. Although novel strategies to manage AML, including a refinement of the conventional chemotherapy regimens, hypomethylating agents, and molecular targeted drugs, have been developed in recent years, resistance and relapse remain the main clinical problems. In this study, three databases, PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, were systematically searched to identify various bioactive compounds with antileukemic properties. A total of 518 articles were identified, out of which 59 were viewed as eligible for the current report. From the data extracted, over 60 bioactive compounds were identified and divided into five major groups: flavonoids, alkaloids, organosulfur compounds, terpenes, and terpenoids, and other known and emerging bioactive compounds. The mechanism of actions of the analyzed individual bioactive molecules differs remarkably and includes disrupting chromatin structure, upregulating the synthesis of certain DNA repair proteins, inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and inhibiting/regulating Hsp90 activities, DNA methyltransferase 1, and histone deacetylase 1.

Abstract
Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (pALL), a malignancy of the lymphoid line of blood cells, accounts for a large percentage of all childhood leukemia cases. Although the 5-year survival rate for children with ALL has greatly improved over years, using chemotherapeutics as its first-line treatment still causes short- and long-term side effects. Furthermore, induction of toxicity and resistance, as well as the high cost, limit their application. Phytochemicals, with remarkable cancer preventive and chemotherapeutic characteristics, may serve as old solutions to new challenges. Bioactive plant secondary metabolites have exhibited promising antileukemic and adjunctive effects by targeting various molecular processes, including autophagy, cell cycle, angiogenesis, and extrinsic/intrinsic apoptotic pathways. Although numerous reports have shown that numerous plant secondary metabolites can interfere with the progression of malignancies, including leukemia, there was no comprehensive review article on the effect of phytochemicals on pALL. This systematic review aims to provide critical and cohesive analysis of the potential of various naturally-occurring metabolites in the management of pALL with the understanding of underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms of action.

Abstract
There exists an urgent need for the development of new drugs for the treatment of lymphoid neoplasms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of the marine plastoquinone 9'-hydroxysargaquinone (9'-HSQ), focusing on investigation of the mechanism by which it causes death in lymphoid neoplastic cells. This particular plastoquinone reduced the cell viability of different hematological tumor cell lines in a time-dependent and concentration-dependent manner. Intrinsic apoptosis occurred with time-dependent reduction of mitochondrial membrane potential (42.3 ± 1.1% of Daudi cells and 18.6 ± 5.6% of Jurkat cells maintained mitochondrial membrane integrity) and apoptosis-inducing factor release (Daudi: 133.3 ± 8.1%, Jurkat: 125.7 ± 6.9%). Extrinsic apoptosis also occurred, as reflected by increased FasR expression (Daudi: 139.5 ± 7.1%, Jurkat: 126.0 ± 1.0%). Decreases were observed in the expression of Ki-67 proliferation marker (Daudi: 67.5 ± 2.5%, Jurkat: 84.3 ± 3.8%), survivin (Daudi: 66.0 ± 9.9%, Jurkat: 63.1 ± 6.0%), and NF-κB (0.7 ± 0.04% in Jurkat cells). Finally, 9'-HSQ was cytotoxic to neoplastic cells from patients with different lymphoid neoplasms (IC50: 4.9 ± 0.6 to 34.2 ± 0.4 µmol/L). These results provide new information on the apoptotic mechanisms of 9'-HSQ and suggest that it might be a promising alternative for the treatment of lymphoid neoplasms.

Abstract
In the past decade, more cancer researchers have begun to understand the significance of cancer prevention, which has prompted a shift in the increasing body of scientific literature. An area of fascination and great potential is the human microbiome. Recent studies suggest that the gut microbiota has significant roles in an individual's ability to avoid cancer, with considerable focus on the gut microbiome and colorectal cancer. That in mind, racial disparities with regard to colorectal cancer treatment and prevention are generally understudied despite higher incidence and mortality rates among Non-Hispanic Blacks compared to other racial and ethnic groups in the United States. A comprehension of ethnic differences with relation to colorectal cancer, dietary habits and the microbiome is a meritorious area of investigation. This review highlights literature that identifies and bridges the gap in understanding the role of the human microbiome in racial disparities across colorectal cancer. Herein, we explore the differences in the gut microbiota, common short chain fatty acids produced in abundance by microbes, and their association with racial differences in cancer acquisition.
