Abstract
A new selective fluorogenic chemosensor for Hg2+, which combines a calixarene derivative with a BODIPY core as a fluorescent reporter, is described. The remarkable change in its fluorogenic properties in DMSO and CHCl3 has been analyzed. A study of its spectral properties on dilution, along with molecular modeling studies, allowed us to explain that this behavior involves the formation of a J-dimer, as well as how the sensing mechanism of Hg2+ proceeds.

Abstract
This work deals with the study of the interaction between 2-cyano-6-hydroxy benzothiazole (CHBT) and p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene (SCX6) at different pH values in aqueous medium by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy. The results demonstrate the strong influence of SCX6 on the fluorescence properties of CHBT. The steady-state emission of CHBT shows strong sensitivity to its environment. The mode of inclusion complexation of CHBT and SCX6 has also been investigated using HR-MS, FT-IR, NMR, 2D NMR, and FESEM analysis. With the increase in SCX6 concentration, absorbance decreased with an isosbestic point at 305 nm. The binding constant is calculated by a spectrofluorimetric method and stoichiometry by Job's method. The formation of an inclusion complex has been confirmed by 2D NMR NOESY, COSY, ROESY, HMBC, and HSQC spectroscopic methods. The complex is seen to be stabilized by electrostatic interactions between CHBT and the nanocavity of SCX6. Studies with cellular systems support that the CHBT-SCX6 complex is more effective in killing cancerous cells and hence, SCX6 may prove to be an effective carrier for drug molecules like CHBT.

Abstract
We report in this paper an unusual β-cyclodextrin mediated-aluminum (III) ion sensing based on augmented quenching of fluorescence. The fluorescent sensing of metal ions by a new ligand prepared (L = 4-[{4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]imino}methyl]piperazine-1-carboxaldehyde) has been investigated as well as the effect of the supramolecular complex formation with β-CD. In aqueous solution, L shows an increase of fluorescence due to the interaction with β-cyclodextrin with a formation constant of 77 (± 12) M-1. The ROESY NMR spectrum clearly indicates that L is encapsulated by β-CD. Theoretical calculations show the possible structure both of the L-β-CD adduct and of the coordination mode of Al3+ ion to L. In the presence of β-CD, the piperazine adopts a distorted conformation. It leads to an enhanced Al3+ sensing by the compound in its supramolecular complexed form. The lower limit of detection of Al3+ ions is 6.00 × 10-8 mol L-1. This detection limit slightly expands for L in the presence of β-CD.
