Abstract
Here we report the first synthesis of sequence-defined polytriazoles, in which different side groups are sequentially anchored to the C-5 position of 1,2,3-triazole rings. By using efficient synthetic strategies based on IrAAC and CuAAC, different monodispersed polytriazoles with up to ∼5.3 kDa and 31-mer were constructed. Structural characterization via NMR, SEC, MALDI-TOF-MS, tandem MS and FTICR-MS evidenced the formation of polytriazoles with the desired specified sequences and exact chain lengths.

Abstract
Thiol-yne click polymerization (TYCP) is one of the most significant synthetic techniques for artificial polymers, due to its simplicity, efficiency, and functionality tolerance. In nature, it is a classic nucleophilic addition reaction and a step-growth polymerization, which can be initiated or accelerated in the presence of free-radicals, amines, and transition metals, respectively. Its rate is greatly influenced by the structures (i.e., their electrophilicity and steric hindrance) of the used thiols and/or alkynes. With aliphatic monomers being used as feeding materials, the topological architectures (such as linear, branching, and cross-linked network, etc.) and available functional groups (such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, amino, and epoxy groups, and so on) can be facilely tailored via altering the chemical structure and feeding order. In contrast, for aromatic monomers, mono-addition occurs only during the process of thiol-yne click reaction, leading exclusively to linear poly(vinyl thioether)s. These sulfur-containing polymers synthesized by TYCP are promising to be widely utilized as high refractive index materials, photovoltaic materials, drug-delivery vehicles, biomaterials, and hybrid materials, etc.

Although well-known and studied for centuries, sulfur continues to be at the center of an extensive array of scientific research topics. As one of the most abundant elements in the Universe, a major by-product of oil refinery processes, and as a common reaction site within biological systems, research involving sulfur is both broad in scope and incredibly important to our daily lives. Indeed, there has been renewed interest in sulfur-based reactions in just the past ten years. Sulfur research spans the spectrum of topics within the physical sciences including research on improving energy efficiency, environmentally friendly uses for oil refinery waste products, development of polymers with unique optical and mechanical properties, and materials produced for biological applications. This Review focuses on some of the latest exciting ways in which sulfur and sulfur-based reactions are being utilized to produce materials for application in energy, environmental, and other practical areas.

Abstract

The ortho-deprotonation
of halide-substituted
ferrocenes by treatment with lithium tetramethylpiperidide (LiTMP)
has been investigated. Iodo-, bromo-, and chloro-substituted ferrocenes
were easily deprotonated adjacent to the halide substituents. The
synthetic applicability of this reaction was, however, limited by
the fact that, depending on the temperature and the degree of halide
substitution, scrambling of both iodo and bromo substituents at the
ferrocene core took place. Iodoferrocenes could not be transformed
selectively into ortho-substituted iodoferrocenes
since, in the presence of LiTMP, the iodo substituents scrambled efficiently
even at −78 °C, and this process had occurred before electrophiles
had been added. Bromoferrocene and certain monobromo-substituted derivatives,
however, could be efficiently ortho-deprotonated
at low temperature and reacted with a number of electrophiles to afford
1,2- and 1,2,3-substituted ferrocene derivatives. For example, 2-bromo-1-iodoferrocene
was synthesized by ortho-deprotonation of bromoferrocene
and reaction with the electrophiles diiodoethane and diiodotetrafluoroethane,
respectively. In this and related cases the iodide scrambling process
and further product deprotonation due to the excess LiTMP could be
suppressed efficiently by running the reaction at low temperature
and in inverse mode. In contrast to the low-temperature process, at
room temperature bromo substituents in bromoferrocenes scrambled in
the presence of LiTMP. Chloro- and 1,2-dichloroferrocene could be ortho-deprotonated selectively, but in neither case was
scrambling of a chloro substituent observed. As a further application
of this ortho-deprotonation reaction, a route for
the synthesis of 1,3-disubstituted ferrocenes was developed. 1,3-Diiodoferrocene
was accessible from bromoferrocene in four steps. On a multigram scale
an overall yield of 41% was achieved. 1,3-Diiodoferrocene was further
transformed into symmetrically 1,3-disubstituted ferrocenes (1,3-R2Fc; R = CHO, COOEt, CN, CH=CH2).

Abstract
Abstract
The numerous merits of conjugated polymers (CPs) have encouraged scientists to develop a variety of synthetic routes to CPs with diverse structures and functionalities. Among the large scope of substrates, alkyne plays an important role in constructing polymers with conjugated backbones. In addition to some well-developed reactions including Glaser–Hay and Sonogashira coupling, azide/thiol-yne click reaction and cyclotrimerization, some novel alkyne-based reactions have also been explored such as oxidative polycoupling, decarbonylative polycoupling and multicomponent tandem polymerizations. This review focuses on the recent progress on the synthetic methodology of CPs in the last five years using monomers with two or more triple bonds and some of their high-technological applications. Selected examples of materials properties of these CPs are given in this review, such as fluorescence response to chemical or physical stimuli, magnetism, white light emission, cell imaging and bioprobing. Finally, a short perspective is raised in regard to the outlook of the preparation methodologies, functionalities as well as potential applications of CPs in the future.
