The Association Between Individualised Religiosity and Health Behaviour in Denmark: Are Social Networks a Mediating Factor?

The Interplay Between Workplace Incivility, Religiosity and Well-Being: Insights from Jordan and the United Arab Emirates

Drawing on the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory, this study examines the relationship between workplace incivility and workers' psychological well-being. A related aim is to examine the link between workers' religiosity and their well-being, with workplace incivility moderating this nexus. Data were collected from 247 employees identified from private sectors (in Jordan and the UAE) via online-survey questionnaire. Factor analysis and hierarchical moderated multiple regression models were used to test the hypotheses. Study results show that workers' religiosity is positively and significantly associated with their psychological well-being, while workplace incivility is negatively (but insignificantly) associated with workers' psychological well-being. In addition, and contrary to our expectations and prior studies, our results suggest that workplace incivility strengthens the direct relationship between religiosity and well-being. The mechanism of this intersection may propose that rude and uncivil treatments positively predict self-blame, something that may lead the targets to become more religious to get recovery from different types of incivility and stressful life events. This study highlights the contextual applicability and possible extension of the JD-R theory through extending its model to religiosity and well-being of employees in a diverse cultural context in the Middle East.

The mediating role of healthy lifestyle behavior in the relationship between religious practice and academic achievement in university students

BACKGROUND

The issues of religious practice, healthy lifestyle behavior and academic achievement are global agendas. Most previous research has focused on either one or two of the variables, not three of them (e.g. just the relationship between religious practice and healthy lifestyle behavior). And addressing these three issues, by and large, demands a systemic approach to re-thinking the current level and improving it.

OBJECTIVE

To examine the causal relationship between religious practice, healthy lifestyle behavior, and academic achievement in the case of Debre Markos University (DMU) and Injibara University (IU), Ethiopia.

METHODS

Four hundred forty students are participated voluntarily using random sampling techniques. To attain this objective, a cross-sectional research method design was used.

RESULTS

The mean scores of students' healthy lifestyle behavior is more than average in all aspects. MANOVA results revealed that batch, ethnicity (region), and the university did not display a statistically significant difference among the composite (or combined) scores of both students' healthy lifestyles and religious practice. However, religious affiliation and gender religious practice and have an effect on religious practice and healthy lifestyle behavior respectively. The correlation output informs that religious practice and healthy lifestyle behavior are positively and significantly correlated with each other. Religious practice also significantly predicted students' healthy lifestyle behavior. Despite this, the academic achievement of students didn't have any relationship with their religious practice and healthy lifestyle behavior.

CONCLUSION

University students' healthy lifestyle behavior doesn't play an intervening variable in the effect of religious practice on academic achievement. Possible practical implications and recommendations have been forwarded.

Slight religiosity associated with a lower incidence of any fracture among healthy people in a multireligious country

BACKGROUND

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the degree of religiosity and subsequent fractures and a decrease in bone mineral density in a Japanese population.

METHODS

We conducted a retrospective longitudinal study at St. Luke's International Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, from 2005 to 2018. All participants who underwent voluntary health check-ups were included. Our outcomes were any fractures and the change in T-score from baseline to each visit. We compared these outcomes by the self-reported degree of religiosity (not at all; slightly; somewhat; very) and adjusted for potential confounders.

RESULTS

A total of 65,898 participants were included in our study. Their mean age was 46.2(SD:12.2) years, and 33,014(50.1%) were male. During a median follow-up of 2,500 days (interquartile range (IQR):987-3,970), 2,753(4.2%) experienced fractures, and their mean delta T-score was -0.03%(SD:18.3). In multivariable longitudinal analyses, the slightly religious group had a statistically lower adjusted odds ratio (AOR) for a fracture than the nonreligious group(AOR:0.81,95% confidence interval(CI):0.71 to 0.92).

CONCLUSIONS

We demonstrated that slightly religious people, but not somewhat or very religious people, had a lower incidence of fracture than nonreligious individuals, although the T-scores were similar regardless of the degree of religiosity.
