Chitosan supported ionic liquid, a multifaceted catalyst for streamlined and efficient synthesis of carboxylic, amino acid and carbohydrate esters

This work presents a sustainable approach for synthesizing esters from carboxylic acids, amino acids and carbohydrates using a robust and eco-friendly chitosan-incorporated ionic liquid under solvent-free conditions. Ionic liquids with carbon chain lengths ranging from 3 to 8 were integrated into the chitosan molecule, resulting in a heterogeneous catalyst optimized for esterification reactions. Among these, the 6-carbon chain ionic liquid demonstrated superior catalytic activity and substrate tolerance. The catalyst's effectiveness was confirmed using advanced analytical techniques. The acidity of the ionic liquid was assessed by observing the interaction between the synthesized IL6 (1,4-bis(5-carboxypentyl)pyrazine-1,4-diium ([BCPPD][Br])) and p-nitroaniline via UV-Vis studies. Chitosan-IL6, an ionic liquid supported on chitosan, functions as a heterogeneous catalytic system that can be easily removed from reaction mixtures through simple filtration. It also exhibits excellent reusability, maintaining high catalytic activity and structural integrity over 10 catalytic cycles. Moreover, the methodology was successfully scaled up for the gram-scale synthesis of key compounds such as diisopropyl azodicarboxylate, methyl nicotinate, methyl cysteinate, and glucose pentaacetate, highlighting its practical viability.

Emerging trends in the development and applications of triazine-based covalent organic polymers: a comprehensive review

Owing to unique structural features, triazine-based covalent organic polymers (COPs) have attracted significant attention and emerged as novel catalysts or support materials for an array of applications. Typically formed by reacting triazine-based monomers or the in situ creation of triazine rings from nitrile monomers, these COPs possess 2D/3D meso/microporous structures held together via strong covalent linkages. The quest for efficient, stable and recyclable catalytic systems globally necessitates the need for a well-structured and comprehensive review summarizing the synthetic methodologies and applications of triazine-based COPs. This review explores the various synthetic routes and applications of these COPs in photocatalysis, heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, adsorption and sensing. By exploring the latest advancements and future directions, this review offers valuable insights into the synthesis and applications of triazine-based COPs.

Copper nanoparticles supported on highly nitrogen-rich covalent organic polymers as heterogeneous catalysts for the ipso-hydroxylation of phenyl boronic acid to phenol

Here, we report the synthesis of highly nitrogen-rich covalent organic polymers as a solid heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidation of phenylboronic acid under atmospheric conditions in an aqueous medium to achieve very good yields up to 99%.

Ordered Porous Poly(ionic liquid) Crystallines: Spacing Confined Ionic Surface Enhancing Selective CO2 Capture and Fixation

Porous poly(ionic liquid)s (PPILs) combine the features of porous materials, polymers, and ionic liquids (ILs) or their derivatives, but they are normally of amorphous structure with disordered pores. Here, we report the facile synthesis of ordered porous poly(ionic liquid) crystallines (OPICs, specialized as a kind of PPIL analogues) with diverse and adjustable framework IL moieties through the Schiff base condensation of IL-derived ionic salts and neutral monomers. Ternary monomer mixtures are employed to artistically control the chemical composition and pore configurations. Compact atomic packing was achieved to give spacing confined ionic surface with strong CO₂ affinity. Through monomer control, OPICs exhibit high CO₂ uptakes with excellent CO₂/N₂(CH₄) selectivities and efficiently implement CO₂ fixation through catalyzing epoxides cycloaddition under down to ambient conditions.
