Abstract
Objective This study aimed to translate the Edmonton-33 scale (E-33) into Chinese and evaluate its reliability and validity in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). Methods In Phase 1, the E-33 was translated from English to Chinese using the Brislin double-back translation method. Content validity was evaluated by a panel of experts, and a pilot test was conducted with a small sample of HNC patients. In Phase 2, a cohort of 510 patients from Henan and Hubei provinces was recruited. Psychometric properties were assessed through item analysis; and reliability testing (including Cronbach's alpha, test-retest reliability, and split-half reliability), as well as construct validity (using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis). Results The item-level content validity index (I-CVI) ranged from 0.833 to 1.000, and the scale-level content validity index (S-CVI/Ave) was 0.965. The Cronbach's alpha, the test-retest reliability coefficient, and the split-half reliability values were 0.922, 0.973, and 0.971, respectively. Four main factors were identified using exploratory factor analysis, explaining 77.07% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis showed good fit indices: χ2/df = 1.626, RMSEA = 0.048, NFI = 0.936, RFI = 0.930, IFI = 0.974, TLI = 0.972, and CFI = 0.974. Conclusions The Chinese version of the Edmonton-33 scale (CE-33) demonstrated high reliability and validity, suggesting its potential as a valuable self-report tool for assessing functional outcomes in Chinese-speaking HNC patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW An overview of research exploring communication rehabilitation published between 2022 and 2024. There is limited research in the field so this timely review offers the clinician an insight into the available literature and the gaps that exist. RECENT FINDINGS The review identified four main themes related to communication and speech rehabilitation; articulation and intelligibility, measures of function following surgical interventions, therapeutic interventions and their variability and quality of life outcomes. SUMMARY Clinicians may benefit from identifying organizational, institutional, cultural, practical and data driven influences on their clinical interventions and capacity to provide person-centred communication rehabilitation. There is an ongoing need to move beyond measurement of compromise and impairment-based interventions, to explore how enhancing communicative competence using multiple rehabilitative interventions from the Speech and Language Therapist may improve holistic outcomes for people with head and neck cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Lymphedema is one of the most common side effects following oncological treatment. This systematic review analyzed the latest literature concerning the efficacy of physical therapy interventions in treating secondary lymphedema in patients with head and neck cancer. METHODS Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library were searched for studies published before August 2023. Randomized controlled trials in which physical therapy was applied to treat lymphedema in head and neck cancer were included. Reviewers blinded screened the articles retrieved, scored methodological quality, and extracted data. The review was conducted according to the PRISMA statement and registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023439643). Risk of bias assessment was performed using the Cochrane tools. RESULTS A total of four randomized controlled trials were included. They comprise 167 patients, and only one of the studies achieved a low risk of bias. Interventions were kinesio taping, compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage and/or exercise applied in combination with skin care and self-management. Some adverse effects related to intervention were mild and transitory. CONCLUSION The findings shown by this review were that an exercise program plus manual lymphatic drainage supplemented with kinesio taping or compression therapy could be beneficial for external lymphedema. Neither therapy achieved an improvement in internal lymphedema.

Abstract
Ophthalmic rehabilitation refers to the multidisciplinary approach to restoring, maximizing, and preserving the visual function and quality of life for patients affected by ocular manifestations of cancer or its treatments. Besides its approach to low vision, ophthalmic rehabilitation also encompasses a series of reconstructive interventions to mitigate anatomic deficits that may interplay with visual impairment. A gamut of oncologic conditions may result in ocular disabilities, including primary intraocular tumours, secondary metastases, or adverse effects of systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Methods of ophthalmic rehabilitation are evolving constantly and involve the prescription of optical aids and adaptive technologies to enhance remaining vision, as well as supportive training and counselling to address psychosocial effects. Although studies in low vision have mostly covered aspects of rehabilitation in inherited and degenerative eye conditions, ophthalmic rehabilitation within the context of cancer carries specificities that have been poorly explored in the literature on ophthalmology and oncology. This review aims to build on the trends of low vision management, ocular oncology treatments, orbital reconstructive surgery, and visual therapy to revise the published rationale behind evaluating and managing patients facing debilitating ocular sequelae as the result of cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patients living with head and neck lymphoedema (HNL) after completion of head and neck cancer (HNC) often can experience long-term functional challenges and overall poorer health-related quality of life (HRQOL). This systematic review aims to explore components of effective HNL interventions through identification and synthesising literature on existing HNL management interventions. METHODS Five electronic databases (MEDLINE via Ovid and PubMed, CINAHL, CENTRAL, and Scopus) were systematically searched using Medical Subject Headings and free text, as well as citation tracking and Google Scholar for grey literature. RESULTS A total of 1910 studies were screened, with 12 studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Findings indicated vast heterogeneity within HNL interventions. Patients' adherence to intervention strategies was reported as low and partially adhered to, particularly at home. This impacted on function domains and overall HRQOL during the post-treatment HNC phase, as well as further increasing the demands placed on healthcare professionals. CONCLUSIONS Synthesis of the research findings highlighted a need to provide and educate patients with individualised HNL self-management intervention strategies. Promoting adherence was reported as being essential, with self-efficacy and behaviour change techniques being emphasised as a critical element to enhance motivation and therefore effective intervention delivery. Further work is important to address barriers to adherence and promote both motivation and behaviour change, to develop individualised self-management interventions for this cancer population. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS The findings from this systematic review will provide guidance in the development and delivery of individualised self-management HNL interventions for patients who have completed HNC treatment.

Abstract
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) constitutes a significant global cancer burden, given its high prevalence and associated mortality. Despite substantial progress in survival rates due to the enhanced multidisciplinary approach to treatment, these methods often lead to severe tissue damage, compromised function, and potential toxicity. Thus, there is an imperative need for novel, effective, and minimally damaging treatment modalities. Neoadjuvant treatment, an emerging therapeutic strategy, is designed to reduce tumor size and curtail distant metastasis prior to definitive intervention. Currently, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) has optimized the treatment approach for a subset of HNSCC patients, yet it has not produced a noticeable enhancement in overall survival (OS). In the contemporary cancer therapeutics landscape, immunotherapy is gaining traction at an accelerated pace. Notably, neoadjuvant immunotherapy (NAIT) has shown promising radiological and pathological responses, coupled with encouraging efficacy in several clinical trials. This potentially paves the way for a myriad of possibilities in treatment de-escalation of HNSCC, which warrants further exploration. This paper reviews the existing strategies and efficacies of neoadjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), along with potential de-escalation strategies. Furthermore, the challenges encountered in the context of the de-escalation strategies of NAIT are explored. The aim is to inform future research directions that strive to improve the quality of life (QoL) for patients battling HNSCC.

Abstract
Dysphagia is a common symptom in patients with head and neck cancer that can significantly impact health outcomes and quality of life. The origin of dysphagia in these patients is often multifactorial, making diagnosis and management especially complex. The evaluating otolaryngologist should be well versed with the patient's neoplasm, comorbidities, and treatment history alongside dysphagia-specific imaging modalities. Management is often dynamic, requiring frequent monitoring, interprofessional collaboration, and a variety of supportive and invasive measures to achieve optimal outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Higher physical activity (PA) levels are associated with better quality of life in people with head and neck cancer (HNC). Despite this positive association, most individuals with these cancer types have a sedentary or low-activity lifestyle. Limited knowledge exists regarding the factors that influence PA in this group. Therefore, we reviewed and mapped the available literature on factors that may influence PA in people with HNC. DESIGN We conducted a scoping review based on the framework of Arksey and O'Malley and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guideline extension for scoping reviews. DATA SOURCES CINHAL, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PsycINFO, MEDLINE and Scopus were searched from inception to July 2023. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA We included qualitative and quantitative studies that stated factors such as barriers, facilitators, beliefs, perceptions and views influencing PA in individuals with HNC. Furthermore, views and recommendations of healthcare professionals involved in the care of people affected by HNC and researchers in this domain were eligible for data extraction. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS Data were extracted and synthesised by one reviewer according to the predefined items including characteristics, barriers, facilitators, beliefs, perceptions and views of people being affected and views and recommendations of experts. Quantitative data were charted descriptively, and qualitative data were analysed and summarised using a basic content analysis approach. RESULTS Of the 1351 publications, we included 19 in our review. Publications mainly focused on barriers to PA, with some studies reporting facilitators and collecting data on patients' and healthcare professionals' views on PA. Most research teams made recommendations for promoting PA in people with HNC.Characteristics associated with activity levels included age, cancer type and stage, morbidity level and attitude towards being active. Prevalent barriers consisted of health-related factors, including fatigue, pain and nutritional issues, alongside personal and environmental impediments such as time constraints, lack of interest or motivation. Facilitating factors for PA included perceived or experienced mental and health-related benefits. Consensus among patients, healthcare professionals and researchers highlighted the necessity for enhanced information and education, emphasising individualised approaches to promote PA throughout the cancer continuum. CONCLUSIONS Numerous factors affect PA in individuals with HNC. Future research should concentrate on screening and addressing risk factors for sedentary behaviour and activity barriers and on optimal design and delivery of interventions to incorporate PA promotion into the care pathway.

Purpose of Review
Shoulder dysfunction widely affects function and quality of life of cancer survivors. This paper discusses the etiology, identification, evaluation, and management of the common shoulder impairments seen in cancer survivors, particularly those with breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and Hodgkin lymphoma.
Recent Findings
Shoulder dysfunction can be caused by a wide range of sources, often as a sequelae of cancer treatments including surgery, systemic therapy, and radiation therapy. These can change the shoulder biomechanics leading to musculoskeletal disorders such as rotator cuff disease and adhesive capsulitis. Other etiologies include neuromuscular complications, such as post-breast surgery pain syndrome and radiation fibrosis syndrome, and lymphovascular disorders such as lymphedema and axillary web syndrome. Metastatic bone disease and primary bone cancer should be considered for those with intense shoulder pain. Detailed history and physical exam, and in some cases, imaging can assist with evaluation of shoulder issues. Exercise, physical and occupation therapy are essential in managing shoulder dysfunction.
Summary
Shoulder dysfunction can limit function and quality of life for cancer survivors. It is important to consider the possible etiologies as accurate diagnosis is critical for optimal treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Head and neck cancer (HNC) treatment often leads to physical and psychosocial impairments. Rehabilitation can overcome these limitations and improve quality of life. The aim of this study is to obtain an overview of rehabilitation care for HNC, and to investigate factors influencing rehabilitation provision, in Dutch HNC centers, and to some extent compare it to other countries. METHODS An online survey, covering five themes: organizational structure; rehabilitation interventions; financing; barriers and facilitators; satisfaction and future improvements, among HNC healthcare- and financial professionals of Dutch HNC centers. RESULTS Most centers (86%) applied some type of rehabilitation care, with variations in organizational structure. A speech language therapist, physiotherapist and dietitian were available in all centers, but other rehabilitation healthcare professionals in less than 60%. Facilitators for providing rehabilitation services included availability of a contact person, and positive attitude, motivation, and expertise of healthcare professionals. Barriers were lack of reimbursement, and patient related barriers including comorbidity, travel (time), low health literacy, limited financial capacity, and poor motivation. CONCLUSION Although all HNC centers included offer rehabilitation services, there is substantial practice variation, both nationally and internationally. Factors influencing rehabilitation are related to the motivation and expertise of the treatment team, but also to reimbursement aspects and patient related factors. More research is needed to investigate the extent to which practice variation impacts individual patient outcomes and how to integrate HNC rehabilitation into routine clinical pathways.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study is to identify and appraise current evidence for rehabilitation interventions in head and neck cancer. DESIGN A previously published scoping review spanning 1990 through April 2017 was updated through January 11, 2023 and narrowed to include only interventional studies (Arch Phys Med Rehabil. 2019;100(12):2381-2388). Included studies had a majority head and neck cancer population and rehabilitation-specific interventions. Pairs of authors extracted data and evaluated study quality using the PEDro tool. Results were organized by intervention type. RESULTS Of 1338 unique citations, 83 studies with 87 citations met inclusion criteria. The median study sample size was 49 (range = 9-399). The most common interventions focused on swallow (16 studies), jaw (11), or both (6), followed by whole-body exercise (14) and voice (10). Most interventions took place in the outpatient setting (77) and were restorative in intent (65 articles). The overall study quality was fair (median PEDro score 5, range 0-8); none were of excellent quality (PEDro >9). CONCLUSIONS Most head and neck cancer rehabilitation interventions have focused on restorative swallow and jaw exercises and whole-body exercise to address dysphagia, trismus, and deconditioning. More high-quality evidence for head and neck cancer rehabilitation interventions that address a wider range of impairments and activity and social participation limitations during various cancer care phases is urgently needed to reduce head and neck cancer-associated morbidity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND Patients living with and after head and neck cancer often experience treatment-related consequences. Head and neck lymphoedema can be described as a common chronic side effect of head and neck cancer and recognised as a contributing factor to impairment of functional status, symptom burden and health-related quality of life. The effects of head and neck lymphoedema can limit patients' involvement in daily activities and alter their appearance, increasing symptom burden and negatively affecting health-related quality of life. OBJECTIVE The protocol outlines the rationale and aims for the systematic review. The main aim of the systematic review is to identify and systematically synthesise the literature on the effectiveness of head and neck lymphoedema management strategies, on both function status and health-related quality of life for head and neck cancer patients. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This protocol will be conducted according to the PRISMA-P guidelines. Electronic databases will be systematically searched using MEDLINE via Ovid and PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Scopus. Inclusion criteria will involve intervention studies for head and neck lymphoedema management, English language, and adult human participants following head and neck cancer. The software Covidence will be used to export, manage, and screen results. Risk of bias and quality will be assessed in included studies using the Cochrane Handbook of Systematic Reviews of Intervention risk of bias and GRADE tools. A meta-analysis will be performed if there are sufficient homogenous studies. Alternatively, a narrative synthesis will be completed on study findings. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION No ethical approval is required as the study does not involve patient and public involvement. The findings of the review will be disseminated in conferences and submitted for approval to be published in a peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42022378417. (S1 Appendix).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) often experience various types and degrees of complications and functional impairment following surgery or radiotherapy. Consequently, these patients require extensive postdischarge rehabilitation, either at home or in the community. Numerous studies have shown the advantages of mobile Health (mHealth) technology in assisting patients with cancer with self-management and rehabilitation during the postdischarge period. However, few reviews have focused on the intervention, management, and evaluation of mHealth technology in postdischarge patients with HNC. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to conduct a scoping review of mHealth technology apps and interventions currently available to patients discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment for HNC. This study sought to identify and summarize the types and effectiveness of existing mHealth interventions as well as the differences in their outcome assessments. METHODS The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CINAHL databases were used to identify studies with no publication time limits. The keywords "mobile health technology" and "head and neck cancer" were combined to address the main concepts of the research questions. RESULTS Of the 1625 papers identified, 13 (0.8%) met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Most studies (n=8, 61.5%) were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies. These studies were conducted in 6 countries. The main aims of the mHealth interventions in these studies are as follows: (1) symptom monitoring and assessment, (2) rehabilitation training, (3) access to medical health information, (4) telehealth advisers, (5) peer communication and support, and (6) follow-up/review reminders. The outcome evaluations of the 13 included studies were grouped into 4 categories: (1) technology usability and patient satisfaction, (2) self-management of symptoms and patient-reported outcome-related indicators, (3) adherence, and (4) health-related quality of life. CONCLUSIONS A limited number of studies have investigated the use of mHealth technology in the postdischarge self-management of patients with HNC. The existing literature suggests that mHealth technology can effectively assist patients with HNC in self-management and postdischarge interventions. It plays an important role in addressing patients' health information needs, reducing both their somatic and psychological burdens, and improving their overall quality of life. Future research should prioritize conducting additional high-quality RCTs to evaluate the usability and analyze the cost-effectiveness of mHealth technology.

Abstract
Importance Head and neck cancer-associated lymphedema (HNCaL) affects up to 90% of survivors of head and neck cancer and is a substantial contributor to disability following head and neck cancer treatment. Despite the prevalence and morbidity associated with HNCaL, rehabilitation interventions are not well studied. Objective To identify and appraise the current evidence for rehabilitation interventions in HNCaL. Evidence Review Five electronic databases were searched systematically from inception to January 3, 2023, for studies on HNCaL rehabilitation interventions. Study screening, data extraction, quality rating, and risk of bias assessment were performed by 2 independent reviewers. Findings Of 1642 citations identified, 23 studies (1.4%; n = 2147 patients) were eligible for inclusion. Six studies (26.1%) were randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and 17 (73.9%) were observational studies. Five of the 6 RCTs were published during 2020 to 2022. Most studies had fewer than 50 participants (5 of 6 RCTs; 13 of 17 observational studies). Studies were categorized by intervention type, including standard lymphedema therapy (11 studies [47.8%]) and adjunct therapy (12 studies [52.2%]). Lymphedema therapy interventions included standard complete decongestive therapy (CDT) (2 RCTs, 5 observational studies), modified CDT (3 observational studies), therapy setting (1 RCT, 2 observational studies), adherence (2 observational studies), early manual lymphatic drainage (1 RCT), and inclusion of focused exercise (1 RCT). Adjunct therapy interventions included advanced pneumatic compression devices (APCDs) (1 RCT, 5 observational studies), kinesio taping (1 RCT), photobiomodulation (1 observational study), acupuncture/moxibustion (1 observational study), and sodium selenite (1 RCT, 2 observational studies). Serious adverse events were either not found (9 [39.1%]) or not reported (14 [60.9%]). Low-quality evidence suggested the benefit of standard lymphedema therapy, particularly in the outpatient setting and with at least partial adherence. High-quality evidence was found for adjunct therapy with kinesio taping. Low-quality evidence also suggested that APCDs may be beneficial. Conclusions and Relevance The results of this systematic review suggest that rehabilitation interventions for HNCaL, including standard lymphedema therapy with kinesio taping and APCDs, appear to be safe and beneficial. However, more prospective, controlled, and adequately powered studies are needed to clarify the ideal type, timing, duration, and intensity of lymphedema therapy components before treatment guidelines can be established.

Abstract
PURPOSE Head and neck cancer (HNC) will be diagnosed in approximately 54,000 Americans in 2022 with more than 11,000 dying as a result. The treatment of HNC often involves aggressive multimodal therapy including surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy. HNC and its treatments are associated with multiple painful and function-limiting neuromusculoskeletal and visceral long-term and late effects. Among these is head and neck lymphedema (HNL), the abnormal accumulation of protein rich fluid, in as many as 90% of survivors. Though HNL is common and potentially contributory to other function-limiting issues in this population, it is notoriously understudied, underrecognized, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. This study seeks to determine the incidence of HNC-related lymphedema diagnosis and treatment in a large US healthcare claims repository database. METHODS A retrospective observational cohort design and data from an integrated US healthcare claims repository-the IBM MarketScan Commercial Claims and Encounters (CCAE) and Medicare Supplemental and Coordination of Benefits (MDCR) Databases spanning the period April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2020. RESULTS Of the 16,654 HNC patients eligible for evaluation, 1,082 (6.5%) with a diagnosis of lymphedema were identified based on eligibility criteria. Of the 521 HNC patients evaluated for lymphedema treatment, 417 (80.0%) patients received 1.5 courses of MLD, 71 (13.6%) patients were prescribed compression garments, and 45 (8.6%) patients received an advanced pneumatic compression device. CONCLUSION HNL in this population of HNC survivors was underdiagnosed and treated compared with contemporary assessments HNL incidence.

Abstract
Purpose of Review Despite more than 6 decades of growth and transformation, the field of cancer rehabilitation has considerable room to evolve if it is to live up to its full potential. This article will discuss the importance of this evolution in the context of radiation late effects and serve as a call for the clinical and operational expansion of the field so that it can become a key component of comprehensive cancer care. Recent Findings The clinical and operational challenges inherent in cancer survivors with radiation late effects necessitate different thinking with respect to how rehabilitation professionals evaluate and manage patients as well as how our institutions equip these professionals to practice at the highest possible level. Summary To achieve its promise, the field of cancer rehabilitation must evolve to embrace fully the scope, scale, and complexity of issues faced by cancer survivors with radiation late effects. Better engagement and coordination of the care team are needed to deliver this care and ensure our programs are robust, sustainable, and flexible.

Abstract
Background: Extensive research revealed copper and lncRNA can regulate tumor progression. Additionally, cuproptosis has been proven can cause cell death that may affect the development of tumor. However, there is little research focused on the potential prognostic and therapeutic role of cuproptosis-related lncRNA in OSCC patients.Methods: Data used were for bioinformatics analyses were downloaded from both the TCGA database and GEO database. The R software were used for statistical analysis. Mapping was done using the tool of FigureYa.Results: The signature consist of 7 cuproptosis-related lncRNA was identified through lasso and Cox regression analysis and a nomogram was developed. In addition, we performed genomic analyses including pathway enrichment analysis and mutation analysis between two groups. It was found that OSCC patients were prone to TP53, TTN, FAT1 and NOTCH1 mutations and a difference of mutation analysis between the two groups was significant. Results of TIDE analysis indicating that patients in low risk group were more susceptible to immunotherapy. Accordingly, results of subclass mapping analysis confirmed our findings, which revealed that patients with low riskscore were more likely to respond to immunotherapy.Conclusion: We have successfully identified and validated a novel prognostic signature with a strong independent predictive capacity. And we have found that patients with low riskscore were more susceptible to immunotherapy, especially PD-1 inhibitor therapy.
