Abstract
OBJECTIVE To improve treatment options for acute kidney injury (AKI) after microwave ablation (MWA) of hepatic hemangioma (HH). METHODS From January 1, 2021, to October 28, 2024, 117 patients with HH were treated by MWA at our center, and 2 of them occurred AKI after operation. The preoperative and postoperative data of 2 patients were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS During the MWA for patients with HH, hemoglobinuria may occur during and after surgery, which may even lead to AKI. A sequential treatment consisting of sodium bicarbonate alkalization, rapid fluid replacement, diuresis and dialysis treatment were given to the patient as early and timely. And their renal function returned to normal. CONCLUSION Patients with AKI after MWA of HH can fully recover. It suggested that MWA is an effective and safe treatment for HH patients.

Abstract
A bronchobiliary fistula (BBF) is a rare condition that occurs from an abnormal communication between the biliary tree and bronchial airway. Historically, BBFs resulted as complications from certain traumas, malignancy, or infection; however, iatrogenic etiology is becoming more common in the setting of advancing therapeutics. We present two such cases of patients with bronchobiliary fistulas and subsequent treatment that arose after medical treatment for underlying malignancies. Due to there being no current guidelines on the treatment approach for bronchobiliary fistulas, a literature review spanning over forty years was performed to identify treatment modalities and etiologies documented in the past. The review showed that regardless of the underlying cause of the BBF, a dual therapy approach or multi-modal therapy approach had a higher rate of success than a single intervention approach.

Abstract
Tissue adhesives have emerged as an effective method for wound closure and hemostasis in recent decades, due to their ability to bond tissues together, preventing separation from one tissue to another. However, existing tissue adhesives still have several limitations. Tremendous efforts have been invested into developing new tissue adhesives by improving upon existing adhesives through different strategies. Therefore, highlighting and analyzing these design strategies are essential for developing the next generation of advanced adhesives. To this end, we reviewed the available strategies for modifying traditional adhesives (including cyanoacrylate glues, fibrin sealants and BioGlue), as well as design of emerging adhesives (including gelatin sealants, methacrylated sealants and bioinspired adhesives), focusing on their structures, adhesive mechanisms, advantages, limitations, and current applications. The bioinspired adhesives have numerous advantages over traditional adhesives, which will be a wise direction for achieving tissue adhesives with superior properties.

Abstract
Background Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is one of the definitive treatment modalities for liver cancer and has been increasingly used in the scenario of small-sized liver cancer. It is generally believed that RFA is minimally invasive and associated with a favorable safety profile in liver cancer patients. However, this interventional technique is subject to some morbidity in high-risk patients, such as those with complicating cirrhosis or a liver cancer located at a refractory segment. Methods Herein, we report the case of a middle-aged woman who developed acute liver failure with a complicating respiratory failure after RFA of recurrent intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Results A diagnosis of hepatopulmonary syndrome was established. The patient was hospitalized in the intensive care unit for mechanical ventilation. Finally, the patient recovered from an eventful clinical course and survived free of recurrence until the last follow-up visit at 1 year after the discharge. Conclusion Our case report warns that hepatopulmonary syndrome, a less common morbidity secondary to liver cancer RFA, should require timely identification and appropriate management due to its life-threatening outcome.

Abstract
RATIONALE Bronchobiliary fistula (BBF) is a rare clinical condition which is characterized by a channel between biliary tract and bronchial tree. BBF can present with fever, dyspnea, and cough. However, it can be easily misdiagnosed as biliary vomiting, dyspnea, or even severe pneumonia. PATIENT CONCERNS A 53-year-old woman was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2011 and underwent radical mastectomy and lymph node dissection, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Unfortunately, the patient suffered from bone metastasis during the 1st year and liver metastasis during the 2nd year after radical mastectomy. In 2013, the patient underwent transcatheter arterial chemoembolization therapy twice for liver metastasis. The patient was then treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in 2016. Unfortunately, the patient developed a cough with bitter-tasting yellow sputum and chest tightness 2 weeks after the RFA treatment. Approximately 6 months later, the patient still complained of a cough with yellow sputum and persistent chest tightness. The patient was then admitted to our department. DIAGNOSES The presence of bile in the sputum supported a diagnosis of BBF. Bronchoscopy was performed, and the presence of bile in the lavage fluid confirmed the diagnosis of BBF. INTERVENTIONS The patient was treated with antibiotics including sulbactam, cefoperazone, levofloxacin and meropenem, was well as hepatoprotectants, nutritional support and other supportive treatments in our department. OUTCOMES The patient died because of liver failure. LESSONS This case demonstrates that we should consider the possibility of BBF when patients experience a recurrent cough with discolored sputum after RFA. In particular, a diagnosis of BBF should be considered in patients who do not respond to antibiotic treatment.

Abstract
Introduction A bronchobiliary fistula (BBF) following liver directed therapy (resection/ablation) is a rare complication in which an abnormal communication between the biliary tract and bronchial tree is formed. This case report describes the successful management of a persistent BBF following multiple liver wedge resections and microwave ablation in a patient with a metastatic neuroendocrine tumour of the terminal ileum. Case history A 69-year-old man presented with unexplained weight loss and was subsequently diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour of the terminal ileum and liver metastasis. Following elective right hemicolectomy and multiple bilobar liver wedge resections combined with liver microwave ablation, he developed an early bile leak. A month later, a right subphrenic collection was identified and four months following surgery, biloptysis was noted. Numerous attempts with endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage (ERBD) failed to achieve sufficient drainage. The patient was treated successfully with endoscopic injection of a mixture of Histoacryl® glue (B Braun, Sheffield, UK) and Lipiodol® (Guerbet, Solihull, UK). There was no evidence of the BBF one year following intervention. Conclusions This novel approach for persistent BBF management using endoscopic Histoacryl® glue embolisation of the fistula tract should be considered either as an adjunct to ERBD or when biliary tract decompression by drainage and/or sphincterotomy fails, prior to proceeding with surgical interventions.

Abstract
Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a malignancy of the bile ducts that carries high morbidity and mortality. Patients with CCA typically present with obstructive jaundice, and associated complications of CCA include cholangitis and biliary sepsis. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a valuable treatment modality for patients with CCA, as it enables internal drainage of blocked bile ducts and hepatic segments by using plastic or metal stents. While there remains debate as to if bilateral (or multi-segmental) hepatic drainage is required and/or superior to unilateral drainage, the underlying tenant of draining any persistently opacified bile ducts is paramount to good ERCP practice and good clinical outcomes. Endoscopic therapy for malignant biliary strictures from CCA has advanced to include ablative therapies via ERCP-directed photodynamic therapy (PDT) or radiofrequency ablation (RFA). While ERCP techniques cannot cure CCA, advancements in the field of ERCP have enabled us to improve upon the quality of life of patients with inoperable and incurable disease. ERCP-directed PDT has been used in lieu of brachytherapy to provide neoadjuvant local tumor control in patients with CCA who are awaiting liver transplantation. Lastly, mounting evidence suggests that palliative ERCP-directed PDT, and probably ERCP-directed RFA as well, offer a survival advantage to patients with this difficult-to-treat malignancy.
