Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the lived experiences of patients with symptomatic osteoporosis on a patient-reported outcomes (PROs) programme for symptom management and quality of life (QoL) improvement. DESIGN This is a qualitative phenomenological study. SETTING PARTICIPANTS: 14 active participants in the PROs programme were recruited and interviewed through semi-structured face-to-face interviews. Colaizzi's seven-step method was employed for thematic analysis. RESULTS Four overarching themes and two sub-themes emerged, including (1) varied perceptions of the PROs programme, where some participants found it beneficial for tracking symptoms while others cited challenges such as technological barriers and lack of actionable outcomes; (2) PROs as a tool for enhancing communication and facilitating appointments by enabling more efficient doctor-patient interactions and quicker scheduling; (3) emotional support provided by regular doctor-patient communication, with sub-themes of fostering a sense of belonging and offering psychological comfort; and (4) limitations of remote communication, highlighting challenges in addressing complex medical needs and providing immediate solutions for medication adjustments. CONCLUSIONS PROs programmes facilitate symptom tracking, enhance communication and provide emotional support for patients with osteoporosis. However, limitations such as technological barriers and reliance on remote communication must be addressed. Ethical considerations, including potential over-reporting of symptoms to expedite care, require careful management. Future research should include patients who discontinue participating in the PROs programme prematurely and the perspectives of healthcare providers to provide a more balanced, comprehensive understanding.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the effect of electromagnetic field (EMF) combined with recombinant human parathyroid hormone (rhPTH) on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover indicators in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) patients. METHODS A total of 336 PMOP patients were randomly assigned into three groups: EMF + rhPTH group (n = 115), rhPTHx group (n = 113) and EMF group (n = 108). The lumbar spine and femoral neck BMDs were measured before treatment and at 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment. Blood calcium, bone alkaline phosphatase (BSAP), type I procollagen N-terminal peptide (PINP), and type I collagen C-terminal peptide/creatinine ratio (CTX/Cr) levels were measured before treatment and at 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment. RESULTS The lumbar spine BMD was significantly increased at 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment, and the neck BMD was increased markedly at 18 months in both EMF + rhPTH group and rhPTH group as compared to those before treatment. There was significant difference in the lumbar spine BMD between EMF + rhPTH group and EMF group and between rhPTH group and EMF group at 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment. In the EMF + rhPTH group, at 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment, blood calcium level was increased by 5.2%, 2.8%, 2.7%, and 3.1%, respectively; BASP level was increased by 80.9%, 120.3%, 84.1%, and 67.7%, respectively; PINP level was increased by 65.4%, 79.7%, 89.7%, and 74.5%, respectively; CTX/Cr was increased by 80.9%, 120.3%, 84.1%, and 67.7%, respectively; the bone metabolism indicators were markedly higher than those before treatment. In the rhPTH group, at 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment, blood calcium level was increased by 5.1%, 3.3%, 3.0%, and 2.1%, respectively; BSAP level was increased by 51.6%, 81.4%, 101.1% and 56.3% respectively; PINP level was increased by 48.5%, 69.8%, 80.7% and 70.5% respectively; CTX/Cr was increased by 29.8%, 29.9%, 55.7%, and 44.8% respectively; the bone turnover indicators were significantly different from those before treatment (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION The combination of EMF and rhPTH can significantly improve the bone turnover and BMD of PMOP patients, and may serve as a clinical treatment of PMOP.

Abstract
PURPOSE Long COVID is a multisystemic syndrome leading to significant morbidity. To date, a comprehensive characterization of underlying risk factors is still being defined. Osteoporosis and vertebral fractures (VFs) were associated with worse acute COVID-19 and impaired respiratory recovery after hospitalization. Therefore, we aimed to assess the potential relationship between VFs and the occurrence of the Long COVID syndrome. METHODS Patients hospitalized for acute COVID-19 and subsequently seen in our outpatient follow-up clinic 6-months after discharge were evaluated. We retrospectively included patients with available lateral chest X-rays performed at admission suitable for VFs assessments. We excluded patients with active neoplasia, and those managed at home or those hospitalized in ICU. Long COVID was diagnosed with a multidisciplinary evaluation. RESULTS One-hundred sixty-two patients were included in the study. At least one VF was found in 42 patients at presentation (25.9%). Patients with VFs were significantly older and predominantly males. Long COVID was diagnosed in 25 patients (15.4%). No differences were found between patients with and without Long COVID regarding demographics and comorbidities; however, those with Long COVID were characterized by a higher prevalence of VFs at time of hospitalization for acute COVID-19 (48% vs. 22%, p = 0.01). After matching patients with and without VFs in a 1:1 ratio for demographics, comorbidities, and COVID-19 severity, a total of 84 patients were analysed and those presenting VFs were characterized by a significant higher prevalence of Long COVID (28.6% vs. 9.5%, p = 0.04) and VFs resulted as the only significant independent risk factor for Long COVID occurrence. CONCLUSIONS We observed that prevalent VFs detected at hospital admission were distinctive clinical features of patients presenting with Long COVID 6-months after discharge, independently from acute disease severity and other confounding factors. This highlights a potential detrimental association between skeletal fragility and the development of Long COVID.

Abstract
AIM We aimed to examine the direct and indirect associations between diet-related quality of life (DRQOL) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with osteoporosis. METHODS Cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses were conducted using data from a 1-year prospective cohort survey of 532 consecutive patients with osteoporosis. The DRQOL was assessed using a short version of the Diet-Related Quality of Life Scale. Dietary intake statuses were assessed using the brief-type self-administered diet history questionnaire. Frailty was assessed using the Kihon Checklist (KCL). HRQOL was assessed using the EuroQol 5-dimensions 5-level (EQ-5D-5L) score. The association between the DRQOL scores and each item was analyzed using multivariable logistic regression, path analysis, and a cross-lagged panel model. RESULTS In the baseline cross-sectional analysis, DRQOL scores at the ≥75th percentile of the cohort were associated with protein intake (odds ratio [OR] 2.18; 95% confidence intervals [CIs]: 1.20, 3.96), frailty (OR: 0.14; 95% CIs: 0.06, 0.33), and having a full EQ-5D-5L score (OR: 2.37; 95% CIs: 1.33, 4.21). In the path analysis, the DRQOL score was directly related to the EQ-5D-5L score and indirectly related via protein intake and the KCL score (standardized direct effect: 0.08, standardized indirect effect: 0.11). In the cross-lagged panel model, DRQOL scores at baseline were indirectly positively associated with EQ-5D-5L scores at 1 year (standardized direct effect: -0.06, standardized indirect effect: 0.23). CONCLUSIONS The DRQOL in patients with osteoporosis may be directly and indirectly related to the HRQOL via protein intake and frailty. Geriatr Gerontol Int 2025; 25: 243-250.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Osteoporosis is a growing public health concern, particularly among the aging population. This study aimed to evaluate the association between osteoporosis and quality of life (QoL) in a sample of older adults. METHODS This cross-sectional study utilized data from all the participants of Bushehr Elderly Health program (BEHP), phase 2. QoL was assessed using the 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12 Questionnaire), and participants were classified as having osteoporosis or not based on the WHO diagnostic criteria. The physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component summaries of QoL were estimated. The association between osteoporosis and QoL was evaluated separately for men and women, considering various health and lifestyle factors using linear regression analysis. RESULTS The study included 2,399 participants (average age 71.27 ± 7.36 years). 1,246 were women and 1,153 were men. Osteoporosis was present in 59% of women and 23% of men. Participants with osteoporosis had significantly lower PCS scores compared to those without osteoporosis (women: 38.1 vs. 40.2, p < 0.001; men: 44.3 vs. 45.8, p: 0.002). However, there was no statistically significant difference in MCS scores. Stratified by sex, osteoporosis was significantly associated with PCS in women [β = -2.14 (-3.13, -1.15)] and men [β = -1.53 (-2.52, -0.54)]. After accounting for relevant variables, the association remained significant in women [β=-0.95 (-1.87, -0.03)], but not in men [β=-0.63 (-1.55,0.28)]. CONCLUSION This study highlights the significant association between osteoporosis and the physical component of QoL in both older men and women, particularly among women. Further research and interventions focusing on enhancing physical QoL in individuals with osteoporosis are warranted to promote healthier aging.

Abstract
Tumors of the parathyroid glands, when associated with PTH (parathyroid hormone) excess, display a large area of complications; in addition to the classical clinical picture of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP), a complex panel of other symptoms/signs can be identified, including memory and cognitive impairment, chronic asthenia/fatigue, reduced muscle functionality, depressive mood, non-specific bone pain, and loss of sleep quality. The perception of quality of life (QoL) can be supplementarily enhanced by their progressive onset, which makes many patients not be fully aware of them. Their improvement was reported very early after parathyroidectomy (PTx), yet the level of statistical evidence does not qualify these non-classical elements as standalone indications for PTx. Our objective is introducing an up-to-date on QoL scores with regards to the patients diagnosed with PHP, particularly taking into consideration PHP management from baseline to post-operatory outcome, including in cases with multiple endocrine neoplasia. This is a narrative review of literature. We revised full-length papers published in English through PubMed research conducted between January 2018 and May 2023 by using the key words "quality of life" and "primary hyperparathyroidism". We particularly looked at data on self-reported QoL (through questionnaires). We excluded from the search the studies focused on non-PTH related hypercalcemia, secondary, and/or renal/tertiary hyperparathyroidism, and vitamin D supplementation. Overall, we identified 76 papers and selected for the final analysis 16 original studies on QoL and PHP (a total of 1327 subjects diagnosed with syndromic and non-syndromic PHP). The studies with the largest number of individuals were of 92, 104, 110, 134, 159, as well as 191. A few cohorts (n = 5) were of small size (between 20 and 40 patients in each of them). Concerning the study design, except for 2 papers, all the mentioned studies provided longitudinal information, particularly the timeframe from baseline (before PTx) and after surgery. The post-operatory follow-up was of 3-6 months, but mostly between 1 and 3 years (maximum a decade of surveillance). The age of the patients varies between medians of 56, 62, 64, and 68 years. Most frequent questionnaires were SF-36, PHPQoL, and PAS. Despite not being unanimously similar, an overall reduced score of QoL in patients with PHP versus controls was registered, as well as general improvement following PTx. Variations of QoL results might have a multifactorial background from different comorbidities, studied populations, technical aspects of collecting the data, etc. QoL scores in PHP represents a complex heterogeneous picture, from their correlation with clinical features and lab assays (e.g., the level of serum calcium), the associated comorbidities (such as multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes), up to the assessment of the QoL improvement after parathyroidectomy (PTx). While current studies do not unanimously agree on each QoL domain, the assessment of QoL might represent a supplementary argument to consider when deciding for PTx, especially in asymptomatic cases and in patients who do not fit into well-known categories of surgery candidates, according to current guidelines, thus assessing QoL in PHP is part of a current research gap. QoL evaluation in PHP remains an open issue, towards which awareness should be cultivated by both endocrinologists and surgeons. The introduction of a routine evaluation of the QoL scores in patients, as well as the selection of the most appropriate questionnaire(s), represents an open chapter thus awareness in mandatory.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Osteoporosis leads to more serious consequences in men than in women, but less is known about its impacts on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of men, and whether the anti-osteoporosis treatment can improve HRQoL of men with osteopenia/osteoprosis. METHODS We enrolled men with primary osteoporosis and age-matched healthy controls. We collected medical history, serum levels of carboxyl-terminal type I collagen telopeptide, procollagen type I propeptides, and bone mineral density of patients. All patients and controls completed the short-form 36 (SF-36) questionnaires. Changes in HRQoL of osteopenia/osteoporosis men were prospectively evaluated after alendronate or zoledronic acid treatment. RESULTS A total of 100 men with primary osteoporosis or osteopenia and 100 healthy men were included. The patients were divided into three subgroups: osteopenia (n = 35), osteoporosis (n = 39) and severe osteoporosis (n = 26). Men with osteoporosis or severe osteoporosis had impaired HRQoL in domains of physical health compared to healthy controls. HRQoL scores in physical health related domains of patients with severe osteoporosis were significantly lower compared to healthy controls, and were the poorest among the three subgroups of patients. Fragility fracture history was correlated with lower SF-36 scores about physical health. In 34 men with newly diagnosed osteoporosis receiving bisphosphonates treatment, HRQoL scores were significantly improved in domains of physical health after treatments. CONCLUSIONS The HRQoL is significantly impaired in men with osteoporosis, and the more severe the osteoporosis, the poorer the HRQoL. Fragility fracture is an important influencing factor of deteriorated HRQoL. Bisphosphonates treatment is beneficial to improve HRQoL of osteopenia/osteoporosis men.

Abstract
Purpose Osteoporosis is especially prevalent in the older population and in women. Fractures lead to many health complications, placing an enormous burden on the health system. Improved knowledge will encourage healthy practices that prevent osteoporosis and help community members avoid unhealthy lifestyles and habits. The goal of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices relating to osteoporosis among male and female students of the Jazan community. Methods The Jazan region has 13 governorates and a population of more than 1.5 million. For this study, 440 participants were selected from seven different governorates, and the osteoporosis knowledge assessment tool (OKAT) was used together with five background variables and some questions on attitude and practice. A Chi-squared test was implemented to identify any significant relationships between the background variables and the knowledge and practice scores. A P value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results Of the 440 participants, 53% were men and 47% women. Thirty-three percent of them held government jobs, 73% had completed university, and 50% had a monthly income of less than 5,000 riyals. Regarding the risk factors for osteoporosis, 62 (14%) smoked, 37 (8.4%) used steroids, 184 (41.8%) had a family history of osteoporosis, and 393 (89.3%) had not attended an education campaign on osteoporosis. The highest number of correct answers in the OKAT was to the question "osteoporosis increases the risk of fractures" (423, 96.1%), and the lowest number of correct answers was to the question "osteoporosis is more common in men" (60, 13.6%). Regarding protective behaviors against osteoporosis, namely physical activity, daily intake of dairy products, attending an education campaign, and background characteristics, attending an education campaign was statistically significant, with a P value of 0.003, but marital status, education level, body mass index (BMI), and occupation were not statistically significant. For the risk factors, sex was statistically significant, along with the daily soft drink intake and smoking but not with the use of steroids. Other background characteristics, such as education level and BMI, were not statistically significant as osteoporosis risk factors. Conclusions The participants' level of knowledge was high, and the risk factors for osteoporosis were still present together with a low level of achievement for protective measures. It is highly recommended that education campaigns be implemented to increase knowledge and encourage improved attitudes and practices.

Abstract
Background The field of rehabilitation medicine plays an essential role in the comprehensive management of osteoporosis and its consequences. The benefits of therapeutic exercise are increasingly being recognized in this area, which receives an increasing number of publications. this study was designed to comprehensively identify collaborative networks, parse and track research trends, spotlight present hotspots, and accurately predict frontiers and focus on the health topics related to osteoporosis rehabilitation. Methods This research adopted computer retrieval of osteoporosis rehabilitation-related research published in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) from inception to June 14, 2022. The bibliometric visualization and comparative analysis involving countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords were performed using the CiteSpace and VOSviewer software. Results A total of 3,268 articles were included, and the number of articles published each year has demonstrated a steady increase. The United States and the University of Melbourne were the highest productive country and institution, with 1,325 and 87 articles, respectively. The journal of osteoporosis international has published the greatest number of articles, with 221 publications, and the journal of bone and mineral research ranked first in the co-citation counts (cited by 11,792 times). The most productive and highly-cited authors were Heinonen A and Cummings S, with 35 publications and 680 citations. Conclusions At present, "physical activity," "weight bearing exercise," "muscle strength," "whole body vibration," "postmenopausal women," "older women," children, men are the noteworthy research hot topics. Future research that focus on the major modes and parameters of physical activity/exercise for osteoporosis (including whole body vibration, weight bearing exercises, resistance training), targeted multicomponent training regimens, rehabilitation therapy for postmenopausal women, older women, children and men, osteoporosis related-sarcopenia and fractures, and mesenchymal stem cells are becoming frontiers and focus on the health topics related to osteoporosis rehabilitation in the upcoming years, which are worthy of further exploration.

Abstract
Objective: Osteoporosis is a common musculoskeletal disease. Fractures caused by osteoporosis place a huge burden on global healthcare. At present, the mechanism of metabolic-related etiological heterogeneity of osteoporosis has not been explored, and no research has been conducted to analyze the metabolic-related phenotype of osteoporosis. This study aimed to identify different types of osteoporosis metabolic correlates associated with underlying pathogenesis by machine learning.Methods: In this study, the gene expression profiles GSE56814 and GSE56815 of osteoporosis patients were downloaded from the GEO database, and unsupervised clustering analysis was used to identify osteoporosis metabolic gene subtypes and machine learning to screen osteoporosis metabolism-related characteristic genes. Meanwhile, multi-omics enrichment was performed using the online Proteomaps tool, and the results were validated using external datasets GSE35959 and GSE7429. Finally, the immune and stromal cell types of the signature genes were inferred by the xCell method.Results: Based on unsupervised cluster analysis, osteoporosis metabolic genotyping can be divided into three distinct subtypes: lipid and steroid metabolism subtypes, glycolysis-related subtypes, and polysaccharide subtypes. In addition, machine learning SVM identified 10 potentially metabolically related genes, GPR31, GATM, DDB2, ARMCX1, RPS6, BTBD3, ADAMTSL4, COQ6, B3GNT2, and CD9.Conclusion: Based on the clustering analysis of gene expression in patients with osteoporosis and machine learning, we identified different metabolism-related subtypes and characteristic genes of osteoporosis, which will help to provide new ideas for the metabolism-related pathogenesis of osteoporosis and provide a new direction for follow-up research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Osteoporosis in men has been neglected despite its association with disability and mortality. We evaluated effects of bisphosphonates (BPs) on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover biomarkers of osteoporotic men with different androgen levels. METHODS This case-control study included 136 men with osteopenia or osteoporosis who were divided into normal androgen group (n=75) and hypogonadism group (n=61) (patients treated with testosterone were excluded) according to serum testosterone levels (cutoff value: 3.5 ng/ml). BMD, serum testosterone, total alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and cross-linked C-telopeptide of type I collagen (β-CTX) were detected. Relationship between testosterone levels and BMD at baseline was evaluated. All patients received BPs, calcium and vitamin D treatment for two years. We evaluated and compared effects of BPs on BMD and bone turnover biomarkers between two groups. RESULTS At baseline, there were no significant differences in BMD and bone turnover biomarkers between two groups. Testosterone levels were positively correlated with BMD in hypogonadism group. After treatment, lumbar BMD increased by 7.65±1.54% and 7.47±1.88% in normal and hypogonadism groups (both P<0.01 vs. baseline), and hip BMD increased, without significant differences between two groups. Serum β-CTX and ALP levels decreased by 56.5±6.3% and 16.8±3.5% in normal group and similarly decreased by 51.8±6.4% and 13.8±6.8% in hypogonadism group (all P<0.01 vs. baseline). CONCLUSION Testosterone level is positively correlated with BMD in men with hypogonadism. In men with osteoporosis, BPs significantly increase spine and hip BMD and decrease bone resorption, and efficacy of BPs is similar in men with or without hypogonadism.

Abstract
Male osteoporosis is a still largely underdiagnosed pathological condition. As a consequence, bone fragility in men remains undertreated mainly due to the low screening frequency and to controversies in the bone mineral density (BMD) testing standards. Up to the 40% of overall osteoporotic fractures affect men, in spite of the fact that women have a significant higher prevalence of osteoporosis. In addition, in males, hip fractures are associated with increased morbidity and mortality as compared to women. Importantly, male fractures occur about 10 years later in life than women, and, therefore, due to the advanced age, men may have more comorbidities and, consequently, their mortality is about twice the rate in women. Gender differences, which begin during puberty, lead to wider bones in males as compared with females. In men, follicle-stimulating hormones, testosterone, estrogens, and sex hormone-binding levels, together with genetic factors, interact in determining the peak of bone mass, BMD maintenance, and lifetime decrease. As compared with women, men are more frequently affected by secondary osteoporosis. Therefore, in all osteoporotic men, a complete clinical history should be collected and a careful physical examination should be done, in order to find clues of a possible underlying diseases and, ultimately, to guide laboratory testing. Currently, the pharmacological therapy of male osteoporosis includes aminobisphosphonates, denosumab, and teriparatide. Hypogonadal patients may be treated with testosterone replacement therapy. Given that the fractures related to mortality are higher in men than in women, treating male subjects with osteoporosis is of the utmost importance in clinical practice, as it may impact on mortality even more than in women.

Abstract
Background Osteoporosis (OP) is a well-known chronic degenerative disease, with impaired mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) function and suppressed osteogenic differentiation. Total glycosides from Eucommia ulmoides seed (TGEUS) was a Chinese medicine and have rich pharmacological effects. This study was designed to explore the mechanism of TGEUS in promoting osteogenic differentiation and bone formation in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Methods Adipose‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) were isolated and treated with different concentration of TGEUS. Cell viability was assessed using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Osteogenic capacity was identified by ALP staining and ARS staining. Moreover, RNA sequencing between control and TGEUS treated ADSCs were further performed to reveal the mechanism of TGEUS in promoting osteogenic differentiation. The expression of Jag1, Lfng and Hey1 were measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRTPCR). Osteogenic markers were further assessed by western blot. DAPT and NICD were further used to identify whether Notch signaling pathway involved into TGEUS promoting osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs. Ovariectomy-induced bone loss rats model was established and divided into three groups: sham, OVX and OVX + TGEUS groups. HE staining and immunohistochemical staining were further performed to identify whether TGEUS could promote bone formation. Results TGEUS treatment significantly enhanced the cell viability and ALP activity than control group, the optimal dose of TGEUS was 5 μM. We selected 5 μM TGEUS for further study. TGEUS significantly enhanced ALP activity and calcium deposition than that of control group. Activation of Notch signaling fully blocked TGEUS-induced osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs. Following TGEUS treatment, the trabecular bone of the rats was significantly increased, thickened, and more connected compared to the OVX group. With the treatment of TGEUS, the expression of Osterix (Osx), Osteocalcin (OCN) and RUNX Family Transcription Factor 2 (RUNX2) increased than OVX group. Conclusion TGEUS enhanced osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs and promoted bone formation in ovariectomy-induced bone loss rats. Our study broadened the understanding of TGEUS as a therapeutic target against osteoporosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe the uptake of 68Gallium-labelled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (68Ga-FAPI) in the bones and joints for better understanding of the role of 68Ga-FAPI PET in benign and malignant bone lesions and joint diseases. METHODS All 129 68Ga-FAPI PET/MR or PET/CT scans from June 1, 2020, to February 20, 2021, performed at our PET center were retrospectively reviewed. Foci of elevated 68Ga-FAPI uptake in the bones and joints were identified. All lesions were divided into malignant and benign diseases. Benign lesions included osteofibrous dysplasia, periodontitis, degenerative bone diseases, arthritis, and other inflammatory or trauma-related abnormalities. The number, locations, and SUVmax of all lesions were recorded and analyzed. The detectability of 68Ga-FAPI PET and 18F-FDG PET in patients who had two scans was also compared. RESULTS Elevated uptake of 68Ga-FAPI in/around the bones and joints was found in 82 cases (63.57%). A total of 295 lesions were identified, including 94 (31.9%) malignant lesions (all were metastases) and 201 (68.1%) benign lesions. The benign lesions consisted of 13 osteofibrous dysplasia, 48 degenerative bone disease, 33 periodontitis, 56 arthritis, and 51 other inflammatory or trauma-related abnormalities. The spine, shoulder joint, alveolar ridge, and pelvis were the most commonly involved locations. Bone metastases were mainly distributed in the spine, pelvis, and ribs. Among benign diseases, periodontitis and arthritis are site-specific. The mean SUVmax of bone metastases was significantly higher than that of benign diseases (7.14 ± 4.33 vs. 3.57 ± 1.60, p < 0.001), but overlap existed. The differences in SUVmax among subgroups of benign diseases were statistically significant (p < 0.001), with much higher uptake in periodontitis (4.45 ± 1.17). 68Ga-FAPI PET identified much more lesions than 18F-FDG PET (104 vs. 48) with higher uptake value. CONCLUSION 68Ga-FAPI accumulated in both bone metastases and some benign diseases of the bones and joints. Although the uptake of 68Ga-FAPI was often higher in bone metastases, this finding cannot be used to distinguish between benign and malignant lesions. 68Ga-FAPI PET also has the potential to locate and evaluate the extent of both malignant tumor and benign diseases in bones and joints.
