Abstract
Laccase, a multipurpose biocatalyst, is widely distributed across all kingdoms of life and plays a key role in essential biological processes such as lignin synthesis, degradation, and pigment formation. These functions are critical for fungal growth, plant-pathogen interactions, and maintenance of soil health. Due to its broad substrate specificity, multifunctional nature, and environmentally friendly characteristics, laccase is widely employed as a catalyst in various green chemistry initiatives. With its ability to oxidize a diverse range of phenolic and nonphenolic compounds, laccase has also been found to be useful as a food additive and for assessing food quality parameters. Ongoing advancements in research and technology are continually expanding the recognition of laccase's potential to address global environmental, health, and energy challenges. This review aims to provide critical insights into the applications of laccases in the biotechnology and food industry.

Abstract
Laccase is a multicopper oxidase enzyme that target different types of phenols and aromatic amines. The enzyme can be isolated and characterized from microbes, plants and insects. Its ubiquitous nature and delignification ability makes it a valuable tool for research and development. Sustainable production methods are being employed to develop low cost biomanufacturing of the enzyme while achieving high titers. Laccase have significant industrial application ranging from food industry where it can be used for wine stabilization, texture improvement and detection of phenolic compounds in food products, to cosmetics offering benefits such as skin brightening and hair colouring. Dye decolourization/degradation, removal of pharmaceutical products/emerging pollutants and hydrocarbons from wastewater, biobleaching of textile fabrics, biofuel production and delignification of biomass making laccase a promising green biocatalyst. Innovative methods such as using inducers, microbial co-culturing, recombinant DNA technology, protein engineering have pivotal role in developing laccase with tailored properties. Enzyme immobilization using new age compounds including nanoparticles, carbonaceous components, agro-industrial residues enhance activity, stability and reusability. Commercial formulations of laccase have been prepared and readily available for a variety of applications. Certain challenges including production cost, metabolic stress in response to heterologous expression, difficulty in purification needs to be addressed.

Abstract
By ecologically interacting with various biotic and abiotic agents acting in soil ecosystems, highly diverse soil microorganisms establish complex and stable assemblages and survive in a community context in natural settings. Besides facilitating soil microbiome to maintain great levels of population homeostasis, such microbial interactions drive soil microbes to function as the major engine of terrestrial biogeochemical cycling. It is verified that the regulative effect of microbe-microbe interplay plays an instrumental role in microbial-mediated promotion of soil health, including bioremediation of soil pollutants and biocontrol of soil-borne phytopathogens, which is considered an environmentally friendly strategy for ensuring the healthy condition of soils. Specifically, in microbial consortia, it has been proven that microorganism-microorganism interactions are involved in enhancing the soil health-promoting effectiveness (i.e., efficacies of pollution reduction and disease inhibition) of the beneficial microbes, here defined as soil health-promoting agents. These microbial interactions can positively regulate the soil health-enhancing effect by supporting those soil health-promoting agents utilized in combination, as multi-strain soil health-promoting agents, to overcome three main obstacles: inadequate soil colonization, insufficient soil contaminant eradication and inefficient soil-borne pathogen suppression, all of which can restrict their probiotic functionality. Yet the mechanisms underlying such beneficial interaction-related adjustments and how to efficiently assemble soil health-enhancing consortia with the guidance of microbe-microbe communications remain incompletely understood. In this review, we focus on bacterial and fungal soil health-promoting agents to summarize current research progress on the utilization of multi-strain soil health-promoting agents in the control of soil pollution and soil-borne plant diseases. We discuss potential microbial interaction-relevant mechanisms deployed by the probiotic microorganisms to upgrade their functions in managing soil health. We emphasize the interplay-related factors that should be taken into account when building soil health-promoting consortia, and propose a workflow for assembling them by employing a reductionist synthetic community approach.

Abstract
This study evaluated the bioherbicidal potential of wild fungi grown on microalgal biomass from the digestate treatment of biogas production. Four fungal isolates were used and the extracts were evaluated for the activity of different enzymes and characterized by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The bioherbicidal activity was assessed by application on Cucumis sativus, and the leaf damage was visually estimated. The microorganisms showed potential as agents producing an enzyme pool. The obtained fungal extracts presented different organic compounds, most acids, and when applied to Cucumis sativus, showed high levels of leaf damage (80-100 ± 3.00%, deviation relative to the observed average damage). Therefore, the microbial strains are potential biological control agents of weeds, which, together with the microalgae biomass, offer the appropriate conditions to obtain an enzyme pool of biotechnological relevance and with favorable characteristics to be explored as bioherbicides, addressing aspects within the environmental sustainability.

Abstract
Laccases have high biotechnological potential in industries since they catalyze the oxidation of many chemical compounds. The production of laccases by fungi has been extensively studied due to their secretion of enzymes and rapid growth using cheap substrates. Trichoderma; the versatile fungal genus includes species of great biotechnological value and considered as a magnificent industrial cell factory of enzymes. In this study, 10 Trichoderma species were screened for laccase enzyme production by submerged cultivation. The studied species were identified by internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene sequences. Guaiacol (0.04%) as an enzyme substrate in plate medium was used for the selection of maximum laccase-enriched Trichoderma species by formation of visual color halo intensity. This activity was evaluated by liquid submersion (flask medium) also. The absorbance of laccase contained broth was measured by a spectrophotometer (450 nm). The highest laccase production was obtained by T. atroviride (2.62 U/mL). Trichoderma cremeum and T. longipile showed medium laccase potency, while T. beinartii exhibited weak laccase secretion ability. Laccase from T. atroviride was purified by SDS-PAGE and the molecular weight was determined (57 kDa). The laccase was confirmed by their respective amino acid sequences, and the phylogenetic tree was constructed for further analysis.

Abstract
Three newly isolated fungal species, namely, Cerrena unicolor Han 849, Lenzites betulina Han 851, and Schizophyllum commune Han 881, isolated from their native habitats in Wulingshan National Nature Reserve of Hebei Province of northern China, were screened for laccase production with single or mixed lignocellulosic wastes. C. unicolor Han 849 was found to express the highest levels of laccase with single or mixed lignocellulosic wastes compared with L. betulina Han 851 and S. commune Han 881. The highest laccase activity from the mixed fungal culture of C. unicolor Han 849 and S. commune Han 881 or L. betulina Han 851 on Firmiana platanifolia was 1,373.12 ± 55.93 and 1,144.85 ± 34.97 U/L, respectively, higher than that from other tested conditions. L. betulina Han 851 or S. commune Han 881 mixed with other species was also helpful for accelerating laccase secretion due to reach maximum enzyme activity quickly. The treatment of mixing different species, including the mixture of two or three species, was obviously conducive to the improvement of laccase activity on Firmiana platanifolia. These results revealed that the fungal co-culture and the mixed lignocellulosic wastes contribute to the improvement of laccase activities and enhance laccase activities within a short period. These findings would be helpful for providing a new method for rapid production of low-cost laccase and for optimization of integrated industrial laccase production.

Abstract
The present study aimed to identify a pair of fungal strains that promote laccase production in the co-cultivation of white-rot basidiomycetes and to determine the optimum conditions to enhance enzyme synthesis under co-fermentation of mandarin peels. Co-cultivation of Cerrena unicolor with Trametes versicolor, Lenzites betulina, and Panus lecomtei led to up-regulation of laccase activity. Moreover, interspecific interaction of Cerrena unicolor and Trametes versicolor induced the production of two new laccase isoenzymes. By contrast, interactions of Cerrena unicolor with Trametes coccineus and Trametes hirsuta resulted in a multiple decreased ability of Cerrena unicolor to produce laccase. Co-cultivation of Cerrena unicolor with other fungi 3- to 12-fold down-regulated manganese peroxidase (MnP) activity. The outcomes of these fungal interactions are closely related to the initial concentration and availability of the nutrients, the partners' inoculum ratio, time, and sequence of their inoculation. Co-cultivation of Cerrena unicolor and Trametes versicolor in fermenter resulted in the accumulation of 476 U/mL laccase and 1.12 U/mL MnP.

Abstract
Penicillium species belong to main causative agents of food spoilage leading to significant economic losses and potential health risk for consumers. These fungi have been isolated from various food matrices, including table eggs. In this study, both conventional Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Polymerase Chain Reaction-Internal Transcribed Spacer-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-ITS-RFLP) methods were used for species identification of Penicillium (P.) spp. isolated from the eggshells of moldy chicken eggs. Seven restriction endonucleases (Bsp1286I, XmaI, HaeIII, HinfI, MseI, SfcI, Hpy188I) were applied to create ribosomal restriction patterns of amplified ITS regions. To identify P. verrucosum, P. commune, and P. crustosum with the help of conventional PCR assay, species-specific primer pairs VERF/VERR, COMF/COMR, and CRUF/CRUR were designed on the base of 5.8 subunit-Internal Transcribed Spacer (5.8S-ITS) region. Altogether, 121 strains of microscopic filamentous fungi were isolated by traditional culture mycological examination. After morphological evaluation of both macroscopic and microscopic features, 96 strains were classified in Penicillium spp. Two molecular methods used have confirmed eight isolates as P. verrucosum, 42 isolates as P. commune, and 19 isolates as P. crustosum. Both PCR-ITS-RFLP and conventional PCR assays appear to be suitable alternatives for rapid identification of the above mentioned Penicillium species.

Abstract
Due to wide application of laccase, many researchers have shown great interest in over production of white-rot fungi laccase by co-culture. In this study, a white-rot fungus Trametes hirsuta SSM-3, and a yeast Sporidiobolus pararoseus SSM-8 were isolated and identified from Mulberry fruit. The capacity of S. pararoseus to enhance laccase production was remarkable in T. hirsuta, yielding 31777 ± 742 U/L, about 9.9 times higher than the result from the monoculture. The stimulatory factor in the S. pararoseus cells might be temperature-sensitive. The laccase production was enhanced by oil-extract of S. pararoseus and β-carotene induction. The amylase activity was decreased rapidly when strain S. pararoseus SSM-8 was inoculated. The glucose deprivation was occurred both in the mono-culture and co-culture process, and S. pararoseus propagated slowly in co-culture all the time. Native-PAGE revealed an increase of laccase-1(lac-1) level and a laccase-3 (lac-3) in the co-culture. Therefore, it was concluded that competition for resources between the co-cultured microbes leaded to amylase decreasing and the enhanced production of laccase. This conclusion was helpful for the development of laccase fermentation industry because it provided an effective, simple and economic method to improve the yield of laccase.
