Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to provide normative ultrashort echo time magnetic resonance imaging (UTE MRI) data of the patellar ligament (PL), cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) and caudal cruciate ligament (CdCL) in non-lame Beagles. STUDY DESIGN Eight stifles from four subjects obtained immediately postmortem were imaged using UTE MRI in the true sagittal plane. Regions of interest were drawn manually and the total (T2*), short T2* (T2*S) and long T2* (T2*L) values of the signal decay were calculated to evaluate the bound and free water components of the tendon. The T2*S, T2*L and T2* values were compared between the PL, CrCL and CdCL RESULTS: The mean and standard deviation of T2*S, T2*L and T2* were as follows: 0.54 ± 0.13, 4.65 ± 1.08 and 8.35 ± 0.82 ms for the PL; 0.46 ± 0.14, 5.99 ± 0.52 and 8.88 ± 0.4 ms for the CrCL and 0.41 ± 0.13, 7.06 ± 0.57 and 9.26 ± 0.18 ms for the CdCL. Significant differences were found between the T2*L component of the PL and each CrCL/CdCL and a smaller difference was noted between the T2*L of the CrCL and CdCL (p = 0.05). No difference of the T2*S value was found between any of the ligaments. CONCLUSION Establishing normative UTE data of the canine stifle is valuable for comparison in future studies in which normal and damaged ligaments may be evaluated, particularly in those affected limbs in which no instability is identified on physical examination in which normal and damaged ligaments may be evaluated.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the accuracy and reliability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in identifying and grading chondral lesions and explore the optimal imaging technique to image cartilage. METHOD A comprehensive search was conducted on Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Eligible cohort studies published before August 2022 were included. The study reports used MRI to diagnose and grade cartilage lesions, with intraoperative findings as the reference standard. Summary estimates of diagnostic performance were obtained. The reliability of MRI interpretation was summarized. Subgroup analyses were performed based on assessed imaging techniques, field strength, and joint surface. RESULTS Forty-three trials and 3,706 patients were included in the systematic review. The overall area under curve for hierarchical summarized receiver operating characteristics was 0.91 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.88-0.93). The pooled sensitivity for quantitative MRI, 3-dimensional MRI, and 2-dimensional MRI was 0.82 (95% CI 0.64-0.92), 0.79 (95% CI 0.74-0.83), and 0.63 (95% CI 0.51-0.73), respectively. The pooled sensitivity of 3 Tesla (3T), 1.5 Tesla (1.5T), and <1.5 Tesla MRI was 0.79 (95% CI 0.72-0.85), 0.67 (95% CI 0.60-0.74), and 0.55 (95% CI 0.39-0.71), respectively. There were differences in interobserver consistency across different studies. CONCLUSIONS In general, MRI had high specificity in discriminating normal cartilage, but its sensitivity for identifying chondral lesions is less optimal. Further analysis showed that quantitative MRI, 3D MRI, and 3T MRI demonstrate greater sensitivity compared with 2D MRI, 1.5T MRI, and <1.5 Tesla MRI. Abstract
Aims The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between chondral injury and interval from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear to surgical reconstruction (ACLr). Methods Between January 2012 and January 2022, 1,840 consecutive ACLrs were performed and included in a single-centre retrospective cohort. Exclusion criteria were partial tears, multiligament knee injuries, prior ipsilateral knee surgery, concomitant unicompartmental knee arthroplasty or high tibial osteotomy, ACL agenesis, and unknown date of tear. A total of 1,317 patients were included in the final analysis, with a median age of 29 years (interquartile range (IQR) 23 to 38). The median preoperative Tegner Activity Score (TAS) was 6 (IQR 6 to 7). Patients were categorized into four groups according to the delay to ACLr: < three months (427; 32%), three to six months (388; 29%), > six to 12 months (248; 19%), and > 12 months (254; 19%). Chondral injury was assessed during arthroscopy using the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society classification, and its association with delay to ACLr was analyzed using multivariable analysis. Results In the medial compartment, delaying ACLr for more than 12 months was associated with an increased rate (odds ratio (OR) 1.93 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.27 to 2.95); p = 0.002) and severity (OR 1.23 (95% CI 1.08 to 1.40); p = 0.002) of chondral injuries, compared with < three months, with no association in patients aged > 50 years old. No association was found for shorter delays, but the overall dose-effect analysis was significant for the rate (p = 0.015) and severity (p = 0.026) of medial chondral injuries. Increased TAS was associated with a significantly reduced rate (OR 0.88 (95% CI 0.78 to 0.99); p = 0.036) and severity (OR 0.96 (95% CI 0.92 to 0.99); p = 0.017) of medial chondral injuries. In the lateral compartment, no association was found between delay and chondral injuries. Conclusion Delay was associated with an increased rate and severity of medial chondral injuries in a dose-effect fashion, in particular for delays > 12 months. Younger patients seem to be at higher risk of chondral injury when delaying surgery. The timing of ACLr should be optimally reduced in this population.

Abstract
Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries commonly occur in association with participation in sporting or recreational activities or due to a direct trauma. Cartilage and meniscal lesions are prevalent in PCL-injured knees with increasing likelihood and severity based on extent and duration of trauma to the knee. As such, comprehensive diagnostics should be performed to ascertain all related pathology, and patients should be thoroughly educated regarding treatment options, likely sequelae including posttraumatic osteoarthritis, and associated outcomes. Treatments should address the joint as an organ, ensuring stability, alignment, and functional tissue restoration are optimized by the most efficient and effective means possible. Compliance with patient- and procedure-specific postoperative management protocols is critical for optimizing successful outcomes for these complex cases. The objectives of this review article are to highlight the likelihood and importance of osteochondral and meniscal pathology in the PCL-injured knee, and to provide the best current evidence regarding comprehensive evaluation and management for PCL-injured knees with cartilage and/or meniscal comorbidities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections have been proposed as a biologic option to provide symptomatic relief and delay surgery in patients with degenerative joint disease of osteoarthritis (OA). The efficacy of autologous PRP on symptomatic degenerative meniscal lesions (DMLs) has never been investigated. HYPOTHESIS We hypothesized that patients with symptomatic DMLs without OA undergoing autologous PRP injections experience a significant clinical improvement at 12 months. STUDY DESIGN Prospective case series. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 4. METHODS A total of 69 patients with symptomatic DMLs without radiographic evidence of knee OA (Kellgren-Lawrence radiographic grading scale 0-1) received 4 autologous PRP injections once a week. Patients were prospectively evaluated before the injection and then at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. Evaluation was based on Lysholm knee scoring scale (primary outcome), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), Tegner activity scale, and visual analogue scale scores. RESULTS Patients treated with PRP injections demonstrated an improving knee function and symptoms over the duration of the study. A significant improvement from baseline to 12 months was observed in all the outcome measures, and no patients experienced failure or required surgery during the follow-up. Patients younger than 50 years reported lower subjective level of pain and higher Tegner activity scale at baseline and had significantly better Lysholm knee scoring scale (P = 0.03) and WOMAC (P = 0.03) scores at 6 months, as well as better range of motion at 3, 6, and 12 months (P < 0.001). Thirty-three (47.8%) patients were very satisfied, 26 (37.7%) satisfied, 8 (11.6%) partially satisfied, and 2 (2.9 %) not satisfied, with 62 (89.8%) patients willing to repeat the same treatment. No patient was lost to follow-up and no patient experienced adverse reaction, infection, failure, recurrence or underwent further surgery. CONCLUSION PRP injections provide short-term benefits in symptomatic DMLs. Although promising results were evident at 12 months, this is a preliminary study and no definitive recommendation can be made based, for example, on longer follow-up. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This research supports the use of autologous PRP injections for symptomatic DMLs.

Abstract
Abstract Purpose To investigate the potential factors associated with the prevalence of meniscal repair Methods Patients who received partial meniscectomy or meniscal repair in our institution from Jan 2015 to Dec 2019 were included in current study. The inclusion criteria were (1) meniscus tear treated using meniscectomy or repair, (2) with or without concomitant anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, (3) not multiligamentous injury. Demographic data, including sex, age, body mass index (BMI), injury-to-surgery interval and intra-articular factors such as the location of injury, medial or lateral, ACL rupture or not and the option of procedure (partial meniscectomy or repair) were documented from medical records. Univariate analysis consisted of chi-square. Multivariate logistic regression was then performed to adjust for confounding factors. Results 592 patients including 399 males and 193 females with a mean age of 28.7 years (range from 10 to 75 years) were included in current study. In the univariate analysis, male (p = 0.002), patients aged 40 years or younger (p < 0.001), increased weight (p = 0.010), Posterior meniscus torn (0.011), concurrent ACL ruputure (p < 0.001), lateral meniscus (p = 0.039) and early surgery (p < 0.001) were all associated with the prevalence of meniscal repair. However, After adjusting for confounding factors, we found that age (OR, 0.35; 95% CI, 0.17 - 0.68, p = 0.002), ACL injury (OR, 3.76; 95% CI, 1.97 – 7.21, p < 0.001), side of menisci (OR, 3.29; 95% CI, 1.43 – 7.55, p = 0.005), site of tear (OR, 0.15; 95% CI, 0.07 – 0.32, p < 0.001), and duration of injury (OR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.28 – 0.82, p = 0.008) were associated with the prevalence of meniscus repair. Conclusions Meniscal tear in aged patients especially those with concomitant ACL injury is likely to be repaired. Additionally, in order to increase the prevalence of repair and slow down progression of OA, the surgical procedure should be performed within two weeks after meniscus tear especially when the tear is located at lateral meniscal posterior. Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the overall diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with suspected meniscal tears. PubMed, Cochrane, Embase database updated to November 2017 were searched by the index words to identify qualified studies, including prospective cohort studies and cross-sectional studies. Literature was also identified by tracking using reference lists. Heterogeneity of the included studies was reviewed to select proper effects model for pooled weighted sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR). Summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) analyses were performed for meniscal tears. A total of 17 studies were involved in this meta-analysis to explore the diagnostic accuracy of MRI for meniscal tears. The global sensitivity and specificity of MRI of meniscal tears were 92.0% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 88.0-95.0%) and 90.0% (95% CI: 85.0-95.0%) in medial meniscal tears, and 80.0% (95% CI: 66.0-89.0%) and 95.0% (95% CI: 91.0-97.0%) in lateral meniscal tears, respectively. Moreover, the global positive and negative likelihood ratio of MRI of meniscal tears were 10.33 (95% CI: 6.04-17.67) and 0.09 (95% CI: 0.05-0.14) in medial meniscal tears; 16.48 (95% CI: 8.81-30.83) and 0.21 (95% CI: 0.12-0.37) in lateral meniscal tears, respectively. The global DOR was 81.69 (95% CI: 37.94-175.91) in medial meniscal tears and 56.59 (95% CI: 22.51-142.28) in lateral meniscal tears. The results of area under the SROC indicated high accuracy in medial meniscal tears (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.95-0.98) and lateral meniscal tears (AUC = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.94-0.97). This review presents a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of MRI of meniscal tears. Moderate-to-strong evidence suggests that MRI appears to be associated with higher diagnostic accuracy for detecting medial and lateral meniscal tears.

Abstract
Owing to its continuous transformation, the musculoskeletal system of pediatric patients presents some unique features with respect to both anatomy and physiology. The lesional pattern of the knee in pediatric patients is both similar to and in many aspects different from the lesional pattern in adults with knee injuries. In the case of pediatric patients, meniscal, tendinous and ligamentous lesions occur most frequently as a consequence of traumatic episodes. The purpose of the present study is to emphasize the importance of MRI examinations in pediatric patients exhibiting symptoms of knee joint injury. The imaging assessment of the extent of the lesions, which can be either simple or complex alterations, can directly influence the clinical management of these cases by appreciating the growth potential of the specific segment of immature skeleton involved.

Abstract
Clinical treatments for the repair of osteochondral defects (OCD) are merely palliative, not completely curative, and thus enormously unfulfilled challenges. With the in-depth studies of biology, medicine, materials, and engineering technology, the conception of OCD repair and regeneration should be renewed. During the past decades, many innovative tissue-engineered approaches for repairing and regenerating damaged osteochondral units have been widely explored. Various scaffold-free and scaffold-based strategies, such as monophasic, biphasic, and currently fabricated multiphasic and gradient architectures have been proposed and evaluated. Meanwhile, progenitor cells and tissue-specific cells have also been intensively investigated in vivo as well as ex vivo. Concerning bioactive factors and drugs, they have been combined with scaffolds and/or living cells, and even released in a spatiotemporally controlled manner. Although tremendous progress has been achieved, further research and development (R&D) is needed to convert preclinical outcomes into clinical applications. Here, the osteochondral unit structure, its defect classifications, and diagnosis are summarized. Commonly used clinical reparative techniques, tissue-engineered strategies, emerging 3D-bioprinting technologies, and the status of their clinical applications are discussed. Existing challenges to translation are also discussed and potential solutions for future R&D directions are proposed.

Abstract
From once being labelled as a functionless remain of leg muscle, extensive scientific investigations in recent decades have described the meniscus as one of the most crucial structures of the knee. The incidence of meniscal injuries is on the rise and can be attributed to the increased participation of youth in sporting activities. MRI continues to be the imaging modality of choice, and surgical management is the mainstay of treatment for meniscal tears. Arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM) is currently the most performed orthopedic procedure around the globe. However, recent studies have conclusively shown that outcomes after an APM are no better than the outcomes after a sham/placebo surgery. Meniscal repair is now being touted as a viable and effective alternative. Meniscal repair aims to achieve meniscal healing while completely avoiding the adverse effects of partial meniscectomy. Meniscal repairs have grown in popularity over the past three decades and have proved to be a much more efficient alternative to partial meniscectomy. It is now increasingly recommended to attempt meniscal repair in all repairable tears, especially in young and physically active patients. Partial Meniscal implants have also shown excellent outcomes in long-term studies, but its efficacy in acute settings still requires further research. Research performed on various techniques of meniscal regeneration looks promising, and regenerative medicine appears to be the way forward. This review aims to critically discuss the current understanding of the meniscus, its role in biomechanics of the knee joint, and the current methods used to diagnose and manage meniscal tears.

Abstract
Background Only a small proportion of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are diagnosed on initial healthcare consultation. Current clinical guidelines do not acknowledge that primary point-of-care practitioners rely more heavily on a clinical history than special clinical tests for diagnosis of an ACL tear. This research will assess the accuracy of combinations of patient-reported variables alone, and in combination with clinician-generated variables to identify an ACL tear as a preliminary step to designing a primary point-of-care clinical decision support tool. Methods Electronic medical records (EMRs) of individuals aged 15–45 years, with ICD-9 codes corresponding to a knee condition, and confirmed (ACL+) or denied (ACL−) first-time ACL tear seen at a University-based Clinic between 2014 and 2016 were eligible for inclusion. Demographics, relevant diagnostic indicators and ACL status based on orthopaedic surgeon assessment and/or MRI reports were manually extracted. Descriptive statistics calculated for all variables by ACL status. Univariate between group comparisons, clinician surveys (n = 17), availability of data and univariable logistic regression (95%CI) were used to select variables for inclusion into multivariable logistic regression models that assessed the odds (95%CI) of an ACL-tear based on patient-reported variables alone (consistent with primary point-of-care practice), or in combination with clinician-generated variables. Model performance was assessed by accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and positive and negative likelihood ratios (95%CI). Results Of 1512 potentially relevant EMRs, 725 were included. Participant median age was 26 years (range 15–45), 48% were female and 60% had an ACL tear. A combination of patient-reported (age, sport-related injury, immediate swelling, family history of ACL tear) and clinician-generated (Lachman test result) variables were superior for ACL tear diagnosis [accuracy; 0.95 (90,98), sensitivity; 0.97 (0.88,0.98), specificity; 0.95 (0.82,0.99)] compared to the patient-reported variables alone [accuracy; 84% (77,89), sensitivity; 0.60 (0.44,0.74), specificity; 0.95 (0.89,0.98)]. Conclusions A high proportion of individuals without an ACL tear can be accurately identified by considering patient-reported age, injury setting, immediate swelling and family history of ACL tear. These findings directly inform the development of a clinical decision support tool to facilitate timely and accurate ACL tear diagnosis in primary care settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the current literature and to assess the clinical outcomes following meniscal ramp lesion treatment and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. A consensus of the treatment of this pattern of tears is still lacking. METHODS A systematic review of the literature was performed with a comprehensive search on Medline through PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane, Embase and Google Scholar databases. The PRISMA 2009 flowchart and checklist were considered to edit the review. The included studies were evaluated based on indications, management, surgical technique and clinical results. RESULTS Seven studies (two level II and five level IV evidence) were identified that met inclusion criteria, including a total of 509 patients. The overall main follow-up was 23.6 months. Treatment failure occurred in 8.3% of patients receiving ACL repair and ramp lesion treatment. The repair of ramp lesion is the most used approach in the literature. CONCLUSION There is a lack of literature focused on the management of ramp lesion and ACL injuries. The repair resulted in the most used approach with good clinical results and low failure rate. However, further high-quality studies evaluating the long-term outcomes of different surgical strategies are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The rate of secondary knee injuries after pediatric anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is uncertain, and previous studies are limited because of poor methodology. PURPOSE To evaluate the incidence of new meniscal injuries since the initial diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of young adults who sustained a pediatric ACL injury. In addition, to evaluate meniscal and cartilage injuries in the index knee and contralateral knee injuries on MRI at final follow-up (9.5 years). Furthermore, to assess leg length and alignment based on long-leg radiographs. STUDY DESIGN Case series; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS Study population at final follow-up included 47 young adults who sustained a pediatric ACL injury before age 13 years. They were followed prospectively since the time of injury for a mean 9.5 years at final follow-up. Imaging included diagnostic MRI of the index knee and 3.0-T MRI of both knees at 1-, 2-, and 9.5-year follow-up, in addition to long-leg radiographs at final follow-up. Forty-three patients underwent active rehabilitation without ACL reconstruction initially; 4 were treated with initial ACL reconstruction. At final follow-up, 27 (57%) had undergone ACL reconstruction. RESULTS Fourteen patients had meniscal tears in the index knee at final follow-up (prevalence, 30%). The majority of these were in the same location as previously repaired tears (n = 9). Between diagnostic MRI and final follow-up, 16 patients had sustained new meniscal tears to a healthy meniscus (incidence, 34%). At final follow-up, meniscal injuries recorded at baseline or during follow-up were no longer visible and appeared healed in 17 patients (20 tears). MRI at final follow-up showed cartilage injuries in the index knee of 13 patients (28%) and contralateral injuries in 8 patients (meniscus, n = 2; cartilage, n = 5; subchondral fracture, n = 1). Two patients had a leg-length difference >15 mm, and 3 had side-to-side difference in knee alignment >5°. CONCLUSION The incidence of new meniscal tears after pediatric ACL injury was 34% during a mean follow-up period of 9.5 years. At final follow-up, 27 patients (57%) had normal menisci, and none had developed knee osteoarthritis. Primary active rehabilitation, close follow-up, and delayed surgery if needed may be a viable and safe treatment option for some pediatric ACL injuries.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of tranexamic acid (TXA) in patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in reducing intra-articular effusion and affecting clinical outcomes 3 months after surgery. METHODS Eighty consecutive patients undergoing ACL reconstruction were prospectively assessed from 2014 to 2016. Patients were randomly allocated to 1 of 2 groups: The test group received an intravenous infusion of 15 mg/kg of TXA, and the control group did not receive TXA. The patellar circumference, range of motion (ROM), Coupens and Yates (CY) value, visual analog scale score for pain assessment, and quadriceps strength (QS) were considered on postoperative day (PD) 1, PD 7, and PD 15 and at 1 month and 3 months after surgery. Blood volume in the intra-articular drainage was recorded on PD 1. Any adverse effect, such as fever onset (>37.5°C), hemarthrosis, or infection, was also considered. RESULTS We found a statistically significant reduction in drainage blood volume (P < .001) and CY value (P = .0044) on PD 1 in patients in the test group compared with those in the control group. On PD 7, a significant improvement was found for mean CY values (P = .0057), ROM (P = .0031), and QS (P = .015). On PD 15, we noted significant improvements in CY values (P < .001), patellar circumference (P = .0019), QS (P = .0089), and visual analog scale values (P = .0032) in the test group. We noted 13 fever episodes in the control group and 2 fever episodes in the study group (P = .047). No differences for any outcomes or complications were found at 3 months. CONCLUSION TXA administration reduced hemarthrosis and the amount of suction drainage blood volume, improved ROM and QS, and reduced fever episodes during the first 2 weeks after surgery. TXA use improved early-phase outcomes in the postoperative period after ACL reconstruction. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level I, randomized controlled trial.

Abstract
Objective To assess the diagnostic validity of clusters combining history elements and physical examination tests to diagnose partial or complete anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. Design Prospective diagnostic study. Settings Orthopaedic clinics (n = 2), family medicine clinics (n = 2) and community-dwelling. Participants Consecutive patients with a knee complaint (n = 279) and consulting one of the participating orthopaedic surgeons (n = 3) or sport medicine physicians (n = 2). Interventions Not applicable. Main outcome measures History elements and physical examination tests performed independently were compared to the reference standard: an expert physicians’ composite diagnosis including history elements, physical tests and confirmatory magnetic resonance imaging. Penalized logistic regression (LASSO) was used to identify history elements and physical examination tests associated with the diagnosis of ACL tear and recursive partitioning was used to develop diagnostic clusters. Diagnostic accuracy measures including sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), predictive values and positive and negative likelihood ratios (LR+/-) with associated 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Results Forty-three individuals received a diagnosis of partial or complete ACL tear (15.4% of total cohort). The Lachman test alone was able to diagnose partial or complete ACL tears (LR+: 38.4; 95%CI: 16.0–92.5). Combining a history of trauma during a pivot with a “popping” sensation also reached a high diagnostic validity for partial or complete tears (LR+: 9.8; 95%CI: 5.6–17.3). Combining a history of trauma during a pivot, immediate effusion after trauma and a positive Lachman test was able to identify individuals with a complete ACL tear (LR+: 17.5; 95%CI: 9.8–31.5). Finally, combining a negative history of pivot or a negative popping sensation during trauma with a negative Lachman or pivot shift test was able to exclude both partial or complete ACL tears (LR-: 0.08; 95%CI: 0.03–0.24). Conclusion Diagnostic clusters combining history elements and physical examination tests can support the differential diagnosis of ACL tears compared to various knee disorders.

Abstract
PURPOSE This review aims to explore and summarize the current clinical evidence about the use of regenerative medicine such as mesenchymal stem cells or platelet-rich plasma in intervertebral disc regeneration, in order to clarify the state of art of these novel approaches. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed a research of the available literature about regenerative medicine strategies aiming to prevent intervertebral disc degeneration. All preclinical trials and in vitro studies were excluded. Only clinical trials were critically analysed. RESULTS The manuscript selection produced a total of 7 articles concerning the use of regenerative therapies in intervertebral disc degeneration, covering the period between 2010 and 2016. Articles selected were 4 about the injection of mesenchymal stem cells-related results and 3 using platelet-rich plasma. The total population of patients treated with regenerative medicine strategies were 104 patients. CONCLUSIONS Regenerative medicine, such as the use of mesenchymal stem cells or platelet-rich plasma, in intradiscal disc degeneration has shown preclinical and clinical positive results. Randomized clinical trials studying the potential of MSCs intradiscal injection have not been conducted, and PRP effect has been studied only preliminarily. Additional more powered high-quality studies are needed to really appreciate the long-term safety and efficacy of regenerative medicine approaches in IDD.
