Abstract
INTRODUCTION The predictive value of immunological fecal occult blood (iFOB) testing for the screening of colorectal cancer has been well described in the Western world. However, its relevance in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is not well evaluated. It could be altered by the other causes of lower gastrointestinal bleeding such as parasitic infections. The aim of this study was to highlight the performance of an iFOB test for the prediction of colorectal cancer (CRC) during colonoscopy in SSA. METHODOLOGY We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study in two digestive endoscopic centers of Yaoundé (Cameroon) from the 1st July to the 31 November 2022. Patients presenting with an indication for colonoscopy without any overt gastrointestinal bleeding were included. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected. All consenting patients underwent a qualitative immunologic occult test through the iFOB test before colonoscopy. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23.0 software. The performance of the iFOB test for the diagnosis of CRC during colonoscopy was evaluated in terms of sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV). RESULTS We included 103 patients during the study period with a male predominance and a sex ratio of 1.7. The median age [IQR] was 52 [38-65] years (range 1 - 84 years). The most common colonoscopic lesions were polyps in 23 patients (22.3%), CRC in 17 patients (16.5%) and hemorrhoids in 15 patients (14.6%). Patients testing positive for iFOB test accounted for 43.7% (45 patients). Among these patients, 31.1% (14 patients) had a CRC. The Se of the occult blood test for CRC detection was calculated to be 82.3% (95%CI: 56.7-96.2); the Sp was 63.9% (95% CI: 53-74); the PPV was 31.1% (95% CI: 24-39) and the NPV was 94.8% (95% CI: 86.6-98.1). CONCLUSION The iFOB test has a good NPV, but a poor PPV for the diagnosis of CRC in our study.

Abstract
The current study aimed to investigate the relationship between red and white meat subtypes, processed meat (divided into traditional "Khlii, Kaddid" and industrially processed meat) and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk, considering CRC subsites, in Moroccan adults. A case-control study was conducted including 2,906 matched case-control pairs recruited from the five largest university hospitals in Morocco. Dietary data were collected through a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Multivariable odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), for the association of CRC risk with meat consumption (high vs. low intake), were estimated using conditional logistic regression models, adjusted for relevant confounding variables. Overall, consumption of red meat was positively associated with colon cancer and CRC risk (OR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.05-1.44; OR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.02-1.27), respectively. In contrast, no significant association was observed between the consumption of red meat and rectal cancer risk (OR = 1.05, 95% = 0.90-1.23). Interestingly, while processed meat from industrial processes was positively associated with colon cancer, rectal cancer and CRC (OR = 1.61, 95% CI = 1.27-2.04; OR = 1.73, 95% CI = 1.34-2.23; OR = 1.67, 95% CI = 1.41-1.98), processed meat prepared using traditional methods was inversely associated with colon cancer and CRC risk (OR = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.57-0.98; OR = 0.77, 95% CI = 0.64-0.93), respectively. Furthermore, positive associations were observed between poultry intake and colon cancer risk among men (OR = 1.27, 95% CI = 1.01-1.59). Our study showed similar associations between the consumption of red meat and CRC risk in Morocco as in developed countries, while inverse associations were found for traditionally processed meat products. This is the first study to investigate the differential effects of traditional vs. westernized processed meat products in a developing country. Other studies are needed to confirm these findings and to understand the physiological pathways underlying these associations.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine CRC incidence and to describe clinicopathological features in north Tunisia for the period 2007–2009. The North Tunisia Cancer Registry was the source of data for the identification of patients. The age-standardized incidence rates (ASRs) were respectively 13.6 cases (7.5/100,000 for colon cancer and 6.2 for rectal cancer) and 11.1 cases (6.5/100,000 for colon cancer and 4.4 for rectal cancer) per 100,000 among male and female. The ASR varied widely by regions in northern Tunisia. The most common site in colon cancer was the distal colon comparing to the proximal one (49.0 and 29.9% respectively). Adenocarcinoma was the most common histological type. CRC screening should be strengthened in Tunisia to achieve a reduction of CRC incidence and mortality.
