Abstract
OBJECTIVE The length of hospital stay (LOS) is a proxy of asthma exacerbation severity and healthcare cost. The study aims to estimate the effect of ambient air pollution on pediatric asthma LOS in the Bronx, NY. METHODS A total of 1,920 children admitted to the hospital in Bronx, NY due to asthma during 2017-2019 period were included in the study. Demographic and clinical parameters were obtained from medical records. Daily ozone (O3) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) measurements were obtained from local air quality networks. Poisson regression adjusting for gender, age, weight status, respiratory infections including influenza, and ambient temperature was applied to determine whether there was an association of air pollution with length of hospital stay. RESULTS The mean LOS varied by age, sex, weight status, influenza vaccination status, respiratory viral panel (RVP) results, asthma controller use, and asthma classification. After controlling for these factors in Poisson regression, the mean LOS increased up to 10.62% (95%CI: 0.78-21.41; p = 0.03) for an increase of 10 μg/m3 of PM2.5 exposure on admission day, and 3.90% (95%CI = 0.06-7.88; p = 0.05) for an increase of 10 ppbv of O3 concentration during the previous day. CONCLUSION Ambient particulate and ozone pollution is associated with lengthier hospital stays for pediatric asthma, potentially indicating more severe asthma exacerbations.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the association between short-term exposure to air pollutants of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients on maintenance hemodialysis and the number of daily hospital admissions. Methods The data on hospitalizations were obtained from the database of the municipal Urban Employees' Basic Medical Insurance and Urban Residents' Basic Medical Insurance of a city in Southwest China. Single and multiple pollutant generalized additive models were utilized to estimate the effect of air pollutants (CO, NO2, O3, PM10, PM2.5, and SO2) on patient admissions after the lag time of different numbers of days. In addition, subgroup analyses stratified by sex, age, PM2.5 and PM10 concentration thresholds, seasonality, and comorbidity status for cardiovascular diseases and hypertension were conducted. Results In the single pollutant models, the pollutants significantly associated with patient admissions and the corresponding lag time of the strongest association were as follows, every time CO increased by 0.1 mg/m3, there was a 2.39% increase (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.96%-3.83%) in patient admissions after 7 days of lag time; every time NO2, O3, PM2.5, PM10, and SO2 increased by 10 μg/m3, patient admissions increased by 4.02% (95% CI: 1.21%-6.91%) after 7 days of lag time, 3.57% (95% CI: 0.78%-6.44%) after 0-4 days of lag time, 2.00% (95% CI: 1.07%-2.93%) after 6 days of lag time, 1.19% (95% CI: 0.51%-1.88%) after 7 days of lag time, and 8.37% (95% CI: 3.08%-13.93%) after 7 days of lag time, respectively. In the multiple pollutant model, every time O3 and PM2.5 increased by 10 μg/m3, there was an increase of 3.18% (95% CI: 0.34%-6.09%) in daily patient admissions after 0-4 days of lag time and an increase of 1.85% (95% CI: 0.44%-3.28%) after 7 days of lag time. Furthermore, subgroup analyses showed that seasonality, the severity of air pollution, and patients' comorbidities might be the effect modifiers for the association between ambient air pollution and hospital admissions in ESRD patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis. Conclusion Air pollution is closely associated with hospital admissions in ESRD patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis and the strength of this association varies according to seasonality, the severity of air pollution, and patients' status of comorbidities.

Abstract
Background COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 is a worldwide epidemic. Children are less commonly infected and have less severe symptoms than adults. However, they are at risk for COVID-19-associated severe sickness and hospitalization. The duration of stay is a major driver of effective health treatment during hospitalization; thus, it is only logical to attempt to comprehend the factors influencing the length of stay (LOS) for these patients, particularly in light of the ongoing pandemic caused by the new SARS-CoV-2 virus. As predictors of hospital LOS, several variables, including age, gender, disease severity, hospital mortality, insurance type, and hospital location, have been discovered. In our study, we focused on the severity of the patient's condition, the presence of comorbidities, and the necessary therapeutic regimen to predict the duration of stay. This study aimed to answer the following questions: If a patient has comorbidity and has COVID-19 requiring hospital treatment, will the patient's comorbidity elongate the duration of stay at the hospital for further management in the pediatric age group? What are the risk factors that play a significant role in the hospital stay duration in pediatrics? Methodology We gathered data from 100 hospitalized children aged up to 14 years who tested positive for COVID-19, which was not specific to variants of SARS-CoV-2, over 24 months (February 2020-February 2022) at Queen Rania Al Abdullah Hospital for Children, one of the Health Care Accreditation Council accredited facilities. Clinical symptoms, signs, oxygen demand, imaging study results, laboratory data, and usage of corticosteroid and antiviral medication were all taken from patients' medical records. There were no limitations in taking the sample of patients. All patients in the duration mentioned were included. Results Clinical data of 100 COVID-19-positive pediatric patients were analyzed; 52% of the patients had associated chronic illnesses, while 48% were medically free. The longest duration of LOS was 28 days, the shortest was one day, the median was eight days, and five days was the most frequent among patients owing to 21% of patients, using mean descriptive statistics. We compared LOS to having or not having comorbidities. The mean LOS of patients with the comorbid disease was 6.15 days, with a maximum of 28 days, while for patients without chronic illnesses, the mean was 4.81 days with a maximum of 14 days. The significance was 0.07. Our results also showed a significant correlation between using steroids and LOS, as it had an advantageous effect by decreasing it with a significance value of 0.04. Having abnormal findings on chest computed tomography (CT) scan was also associated with increased LOS with a significant value of 0.00. Conclusions According to our research, there was no direct association between comorbidity and hospital LOS, which is counterintuitive, as it was influenced by multiplayers of variables such as using steroids, which decreased the LOS, and abnormal findings on chest CT, which resulted in lengthening of the hospital stay. Our findings cannot be proven without further research and a larger patient sample.

Abstract
Free trade zones (FTZ) are designated areas for promoting trade openness and investment facilitation. In China, FTZs are also regarded as "green areas" in which planning actions and institutional innovations are implemented, and there is a commitment to promoting urban green and healthy development. Given that green total factor productivity (GTFP) is an important measure of a city's health and green performance, this study exploits the difference-in-differences method to explore the impact of pilot FTZs on urban GTFP in 280 cities in China for the period between 2005 and 2017. The results show that the green areas positively contributed to the growth of GTFP. Moreover, the outcome holds with robustness tests. Statistically, the positive effect emerged in cities during the first three years after introducing the initiative, with the effect disappearing afterward. It also had a strong positive impact in the central and western regions and in large and medium-sized cities, while the influence remained insignificant in the remaining areas in China. Furthermore, the paper also reveals that the promotion of foreign direct investment and industrial structure upgrading are the primary channels through which the positive relationship between pilot FTZs and GTFP is established.
