Abstract
Abstract5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is a renewable platform chemical used as a source for obtaining diverse fine chemicals. In this letter, we report the synthesis of 5-HMF-based oxazole compounds. While 5-HMF could be easily converted into the oxazole derivative through the Van Leusen reaction, the direct arylation step needed to access the final compounds was problematic at first. After optimization, a palladium-catalyzed procedure has been developed and used for the synthesis of a series of 33 derivatives. This article reports an extension of the late-stage CH arylation reaction as an application to the oxazole platform derived from biosourced 5-HMF. The challenges in the preparation of the derivatives containing some electron-withdrawing substituents were overcome by the use of a palladium-free method.

Abstract
Luminescent Cu(i) iodide complexes featuring simple neutral diimine and phosphine ligands were prepared. The emission intensity of these complexes was significantly enhanced by crystallization. Intermolecular π-π interactions between the adjacent diimine ligands should be responsible for the crystallization-induced emission enhancement (CIEE) behaviors through consolidating the structural rigidity of these complexes.

Abstract
Cu-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of iododiacetylenes with organic azides using iodotris(triphenylphosphine)copper(I) as a catalyst was found to be an efficient one-step synthetic route to 5-iodo-4-ethynyltriazoles. The reaction is tolerant to various functional groups in both butadiyne and azide moieties. The synthetic application of 5-iodo-4-ethynyl triazoles obtained was also evaluated: the Sonogashira coupling with alkynes resulted in unsymmetrically substituted triazole-fused enediyne systems, while the Suzuki reaction yielded the corresponding 5-aryl-4-ethynyl triazoles.

Abstract
Reactions between copper(I) iodide and triphenylphosphine have been explored in solution and in the solid state and six luminescent coordination complexes have been obtained and characterized by X-ray diffraction and UV-vis spectroscopy and photophysics. Solid-state reactions of CuI with PPh(3) in different conditions (kneading, vapour digestion) and stoichiometries resulted in the formation of high ratio ligand:metal compounds while tetrameric structures could be obtained only by solution reactions. Crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction while purity of the bulk product was checked by powder diffraction (XRPD). Three different tetrameric structures with 1:1 stoichiometry have been synthesized: two closed cubane-type polymorphs [CuI(PPh(3))](4) (form 1a) and [CuI(PPh(3))](4) (form 1b) and an open step-like isomer [CuI(PPh(3))](4) (form 2). The conversions between the polymorphs and isomers have been studied and characterized by XRPD. The most stable form [CuI(PPh(3))](4) (form 1b) can convert into the open step-like isomer [CuI(PPh(3))](4) (form 2) in a slurry experiment with EtOH or CH(2)Cl(2) or AcCN and converts back into [CuI(PPh(3))](4)1b when exposed to vapors of toluene. At room temperature all the tetrameric compounds exhibit luminescence in the solid state and, notably, the two polymorphs show a dissimilar dual emission at low temperature. The luminescence features in the solid state seem to be peculiarly related to the presence of the aromatic phosphine ligand and depend on the Cu-Cu distance in the cluster.

Abstract
The design of multivalent glycoconjugates has been developed over the past decades to obtain high-affinity ligands for lectin receptors. While multivalency frequently increases the affinity of a ligand for its lectin through the so-called "glycoside cluster effect", the binding profiles towards different lectins have been much less investigated. We have designed a series of multivalent galactosylated glycoconjugates and studied their binding properties towards two lectins, from plant and bacterial origins, to determine their potential selectivity. The synthesis was achieved through copper(I)-catalysed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) under microwave activation between propargylated multivalent scaffolds and an azido-functionalised carbohydrate derivative. The interactions of two galactose-binding lectins from Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA-IL) and Erythrina cristagalli (ECA) with the synthesized glycoclusters were studied by hemagglutination inhibition assays (HIA), surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and isothermal titration microcalorimetry (ITC). The results obtained illustrate the influence of the scaffold's geometry on the affinity towards the lectin and also on the relative potency in comparison with a monovalent galactoside reference probe.

Abstract
A series of two-coordinate thiolate complexes [Cu(SAr*)L] was synthesized as possible reactants in forming analogues of the active site of Mo/Cu-containing carbon monoxide dehydrogenase. Complexes with L = PPh(3) (1), 2,6-lutidine (2), and the N-heterocyclic carbene Pr(i)(2)NHCMe(2) (3) have been prepared by the reaction of [CuCl(PPh(3))(3)] (1) or [CuBr(SMe(2))] (2, 3) with ligand L and the exceptionally sterically encumbered ligand Ar*S = 2,6-bis(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl)benzenethiolate(1-). The reaction of [CuBr(SMe(2))] with the thiolate in the absence of added L afforded trinuclear [Cu(3)(SAr*)(2)Br] (7). The carbene complex (3) undergoes Cu-C bond insertion with sulfur to form the thiourea complex [Cu(SAr*)(Pr(i)(2)Me(2)ImS)] (4). The complexes [Cu(Ar*)L] with L = tetrahydrothiophene (5) and 2,6-lutidine (6) were obtained by reaction of Ar*Li(OEt(2)) with CuBr/L. These species did not undergo clean Cu-C bond insertion with sulfur transfer agents; the disulfide Ar*SSCH(2)Ph (9) was isolated from the reaction of 6 with (PhCH(2)S)(2)S. The structures of all complexes and 9 were determined. Whereas 5 and 6 are strictly two-coordinate with linear C-Cu-L angles, 1-4 are quasi-two-coordinate because of weak 3d-C(ppi) interactions with a phenyl group, leading to nonlinear structures (S-Cu-L = 135-164 degrees).

Abstract
The tris(triphenylphosphine)copper(I) complexes [(PPh3)3CuX] for X = Cl (1), Br (2), I (3), ClO4 (4), BF4 (5), [(PPh3)3CuCl].CH3CN (1a), [Cu(PPh3)3(CH3CN)]X for X = ClO4 (6), BF4 (7), and [Cu(PPh3)3(CH3CN)]X.CH3CN for X = SiF5 (8), PF6 (9) have been studied by solid state 31P CP/MAS NMR spectroscopy together with single crystal X-ray diffraction for compounds (6)-(9), the latter completing the availability of crystal structure data for the series. Compounds (1)-(5) form an isomorphous series in space group P3 (a approximately 19, c approximately 11 A) with three independent molecules in the unit cell, all disposed about 3-fold symmetry axes. Average values (with estimated standard deviations) for the P-Cu-P, P-Cu-X bond angles and Cu-P bond lengths in compounds (1)-(3) are 110.1(6) degrees, 108.8(6) degrees and 2.354(8)A and 115.2(6) degrees, 102.8(9) degrees and 2.306(9)A for compounds (4) and (5). For the acetonitrile solvated compound (1a), the corresponding parameters are 115(4) degrees, 103(3) degrees and 2.309(3)A. The solid state 31P CP/MAS NMR quadrupole distortion parameters, dnu Cu, for (1)-(3) and (1a) are all less than 1 x 10(9) Hz2, despite the changes in donor properties of the halide in (1)-(3), and the coordination geometry of the P3CuX core in (1a). Change of anion to ClO4- and BF4- in compounds (4) and (5) results in a significant increase of dnu Cu to 4.4-5.2 10(9) Hz2 and 5.2-6.0 x 10(9) Hz2, respectively. Compounds (6) and (7) crystallise as isomorphous [Cu(PPh3)3(CH3CN)]X salts in space group Pbca, (a approximately 17.6, b approximately 22.3, c approximately 24.2 A), while compounds (8) and (9) crystallize as isomorphous acetonitrile solvated salts [Cu(PPh3)3(CH3CN)]X.CH3CN in space group P1(a approximately 10.5, b approximately 13.0, c approximately 19.5 A, alpha approximately 104, beta approximately 104, gamma approximately 94 degrees). The P3CuN angular geometries in all four compounds are distorted from tetrahedral symmetry with average P-Cu-P, P-Cu-N angles and Cu-P bond lengths of 115(4) degrees, 103(4) degrees and 2.32(1)A, with dnu Cu ranging between 1.3 and 2.5 x 10(9) Hz2. The solid state 29Si CP/MAS NMR spectrum of the pentafluorosilicate anion in compound (8) is also reported, affording 1J(29Si, 19F) = 146 Hz.
