Abstract
The direct splitting of H2 and N2 molecules is a challenging reaction that is closely related to the Haber-Bosch ammonia synthesis process. Until now, such reactivity has never been observed in the case of molecular lanthanide species. Here, we show that careful selection of the ligand scaffold allows the isolation and characterization of a kinetically stable but highly reactive LuII complex. This divalent lanthanide species enables direct H2 splitting at room temperature, an unknown reactivity in lanthanide chemistry, which has been fully corroborated by DFT calculations. In addition, the LuII complex readily binds N2, leading to an end-on coordinated diazenido (N2)2- lanthanide complex. The latter can be hydrogenated under very smooth conditions (ca. 1.2 bar H2, ambient temperature) to form a unique LuIII-NH2 complex. Direct N2 hydrogenation and cleavage are thus accessible using low-valent molecular rare-earth metal complexes.

Abstract
Tetrahedral [Pt(PF(3))(4)] reacts with H(+) to form trigonal bipyramidal [Pt(PF(3))(4)H](+). This in turn looses PF(3) to form square-planar [Pt(PF(3))(3)H](+). The complex [Pt(PF(3))(4)] can be oxidized with AsF(5) to form the square-planar complex, [Pt(PF(3))(4)](2+), which can be more conveniently obtained from PtF(4) and PF(3) in HF/SbF(5) solution. [Pt(PF(3))(4)](2+) reacts with F(-) in HF under cluster formation to [Pt(4)(PF(3))(8)H](+).

Abstract
Using the Effective Group Potentials (EGP) method, optimal geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and relative energies of different sets of metal complexes are calculated. All of the systems under consideration contain the cyclopentadienyl (Cp) ligand. They are as follows: (i). Group V metal Atom complexes showing one Cp ligand, (ii). a tetrameric Al-Cp compound with four Cp ligands, (iii). homometallic lutetium hydrides containing six cyclopentadienyl rings. Various electron correlation treatments have been carried out. All of the results compare very satisfactorily with available experimental data and with all-electron ab initio calculations performed for this work or published in the literature. Furthermore, the performance of the EGP method was tested on a rather large complex for which experimental evidence exists, but no all-electron calculation has been reported so far.
