Abstract
BACKGROUND There are studies, which suggest that some diazocine derivatives can exert effects on the cardiovascular system; however, these effects are not very clear. OBJECTIVE The aim of this research was to evaluate the biological activity of a diazocine derivative against heart failure translated as area infarct. METHODS Biological activity produced by diazocine derivatives against heart failure was determinate using an ischemia/reperfusion injury model. Besides, to characterize the molecular mechanism of effect exerted by diazocine derivative on left ventricular pressure (LVP) was determinate in an isolated rat heart model using nifedipine, PINAME TXA2, and quinalizarin as controls. RESULTS The results showed that diazocine derivative decrease the infarct area and increase the LVP. However, the effect produced by diazocine derivative on LVP was inhibited in the presence of quinalizarin. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate that biological activity produced by diazocine derivative on left ventricular pressure is through protein CK2 activation; this phenomenon could be translated as a decrease in both infarct area and heart failure.

Abstract
1-alkyl aryl-5-amino-4-(cyanoformimidoyl)imidazoles 4 were reacted with malononitrile and 2-amino-1,1,3-propenetricarbonitrile under mild experimental conditions, which led to 5-amino-3-(substituted benzyl)-6,7-dicyano-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridines 5 and 6,8-diamino-3-(4-substituted benzyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]-1,8-naphthyridine-7,9-dicarbonitrile 6, respectively, when the reaction was carried out in the absence of a base, or to 5,7-diamino-3-(4-alkyl aryl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine-6-carbonitrile 8, and 6,8,9-triamino-3-(4-substitutedbenzyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]-1,8-naphthyridine-7-carbonitrile 10 in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo(5.4.0)undec-7-ene (DBU). Both reactions evolved from an adduct formed by nucleophilic attack of the malononitrile anion or 2-amino-1,1,3-propenetricarbonitrile anion to the carbon of the cyanoformimidoyl substituent. In the case of the malononitrile anion, a 5-amino-1-alkyl aryl-4-(1-amino-2,2-dicyanovinyl)imidazole 7 was isolated when this reaction was carried out in the presence of DBU. The structure of compound 7 was confirmed by spectroscopic methods, and cyclized intramolecularly to 8 by heating in ethanol/triethyl amine.

Abstract
Recently, methods have been developed in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically in the expert systems area using rule-induction, designed to extract rules from data. We have applied these methods to the analysis of molecular series with the objective of generating rules which are predictive and reliable. The input to rule-induction consists of a number of examples with known outcomes (a training set) and the output is a tree-structured series of rules. Unlike most other analysis methods, the results of the analysis are in the form of simple statements which can be easily interpreted. These are readily applied to new data giving both a classification and a probability of correctness. Rule-induction has been applied to in-house generated and published QSAR datasets and the methodology, application and results of these analyses are discussed. The results imply that in some cases it would be advantageous to use rule-induction as a complementary technique in addition to conventional statistical and pattern-recognition methods.

Abstract
Aryl substituted 1H-imidazo[1,2-a]imidazole 8, imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole 9, 1,4-dihydroimidazo[4,5-d]imidazole 11, and 1(2),4-dihydroimidazo[4,5-c]pyrazoles 12-17 have been prepared. An X-ray crystallographic study confirmed the structure of 8 and showed this analogue to exist as the 1H-tautomer. These heterocycles were evaluated as inotropic agents and analogues 12, 15, and 17 found to display inotropic properties which were less potent in vitro, but more potent in vivo, than those of sulmazole. Structure-activity relationships are discussed.
