Abstract
The zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha, is extensively used as a sentinel species for biosurveys of environmental contaminants in freshwater ecosystems and for ecotoxicological studies. However, its metabolome remains poorly understood, particularly in light of the potential molecular sexual dimorphism between its different tissues. From an ecotoxicological point of view, inter-sex and inter-organ differences in the metabolome suggest variability in responsiveness, which can influence the analysis and interpretation of data, particularly in the case where males and females would be analyzed indifferently. This study aimed to assess the extent to which the molecular fingerprints of functionally diverse tissues like the digestive glands, gonads, gills, and mantle of D. polymorpha can reveal tissue-specific molecular sexual dimorphism. We employed a non-targeted metabolomic approach using liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry and revealed a significant sexual molecular dimorphism in the gonads, and to a lesser extent in the digestive glands, of D. polymorpha. Our results highlight the critical need to consider inter-sex differences in the metabolome of D. polymorpha to avoid confounding factors, particularly when investigating environmental effects on molecular regulation in the gonads, and to a lesser extent in the digestive glands.

Abstract
Heparinoid, a sulfate polysaccharide derived from marine organisms was attracted largely attention due to its versatile activities. A naturally occurring heparinoid (M2) that was extracted from the mollusk Meretrix lusoria and used in this investigation shown strong antithrombotic action. UV-Vis, FT-IR, SAX-HPLC, and NMR were used to explore the structural characteristics of M2, results indicated that M2 similar with heparin, its average molecular weight was 22.58 kDa. Which was primarily made up of→4)-α-IdoA2S-(1→4)-α-GlcNS6S-(1→ (31.19%), →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNAc (1→ (23.21%), →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNS (1→ (13.87%), →4)-α-IdoA2S-(1→4)-α-GlcNS (1→ (8.95%), →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNAc6S (1→ (7.39%) and →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNS6S (1→ (7.63%). The antithrombotic activity of M2 was evaluated using measurements of the anticoagulant effect in vitro and the fibrinolytic capability in vitro and in vivo, and M2 has 122.4 U/mg of anticoagulant activity and 1.41 U/mg of fibrinolytic activity, respectively. Additionally, a mouse tail-cutting model was used to assess the bleeding effect in real time, it found that M2 had a reduced hemorrhagic risk than heparin. Consequently, M2 could be exploited to develop functional foods or medications with antithrombotic properties.

Abstract
Molluscan extracts confer a wide range of health promoting properties, one of them is cytotoxicity. Extraction and processing can affect the efficacy and properties of bioactive molecules. New Zealand (NZ) surf clams have never been thoroughly studied for bioactives until recently. However, the effect of cold and heat extraction procedure on biochemical composition and cytotoxic activities of NZ surf clam remains unanswered. The objective is to compare the effects on cytotoxicity of three NZ surf clams (Diamond shell, Crassula aequilatera; Storm shell, Mactra murchisoni; and Deepwater Tua tua, Paphies donacina) extracts via cold or heat process across cancer cell lines to find out which process can preserve bioactivity better. Fractions of extracts prepared via cold or heat procedures were tested for cell growth inhibition, apoptosis induction and cell cycle arrest in seven cancer cell lines. Apoptosis was induced through all cell lines, as further evidenced in Caspase-3/7 activities. Cell cycle arrest was focused on G2/M- and S- phases. Petroleum ether and ethyl acetate fractions, with the greatest bioactivity in this study, are rich in lipids and proteins, indicating likely bioactive sources. Cold preparation was responsible for the lowest cancer cell viability and induced greater apoptosis. Cold process retained better bioactivity/cytotoxicity than that of heat-processed extracts. This information may guide future health/nutraceutical clam product development.
