Abstract
A Education and professional development is an essential component of achieving competence in infection prevention and control practice, which requires a commitment to lifelong learning. The roles and responsibilities of Infection Prevention and Control Teams are continually evolving in order to meet the requirements of healthcare organisations and to enhance patient safety. Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners (IPCPs) have a responsibility for their continuing education and professional development to demonstrate their competence and meet the current and future challenges of Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI). The Education and Professional Development Committee within the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) has set out a strategic vision of focused education and professional development activities for IPCPs. This strategy details issues that have been prioritised and are currently being auctioned thus demonstrating a commitment in ensuring that education and professional development remains a fundamental focus of the IPS.
