Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of premature mortality in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs). However, the detailed categorization of these conditions remains insufficiently explored. This study aims to identify CVDs comorbidity patterns among inpatients with SSDs and to investigate associated factors. Electronic medical records (EMRs) data from three neuropsychiatric hospitals (2015-2023) in China was conducted. Comorbidity patterns were revealed through latent class analysis (LCA), and multinomial logit analysis were utilized to evaluate the effect of factors on these patterns, calculating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Among the 2830 inpatients with SSD, four distinct comorbidity patterns were identified based on their dominant characteristics: low-risk CVDs (47.86%), primary hypertension (30.15%), heart failure (12.99%), and cardiac valve and vascular disorders (8.99%). Compared to the low-risk CVD group, male patients demonstrated a higher probability of primary hypertension (OR = 1.15) and heart failure (OR = 5.36). Significant associations were observed between comorbid CVDs and the use of typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics, anxiolytics and sedatives, antidepressants, and mood stabilizers. Notably, perphenazine (OR = 22.06) and chlorpromazine hydrochloride (OR = 7.09) were strongly linked to comorbid heart failure. Among Chinese patients with SSDs, four distinct CVD comorbidity patterns were identified, with hypertension and heart failure displaying strong specificity. Variations in demographic characteristics and psychotropic medication use provide valuable insights for treatment and management.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) is a novel tool that allows the detection of retinal vascular changes. We investigated the association of macular vessel density (VD) in the superficial plexus assessed by OCT-A with measures of cerebrovascular pathology and atrophy quantified by brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in non-demented individuals. METHODS Clinical, demographical, OCT-A, and brain MRI data from non-demented research participants were included. We analyzed the association of regional macular VD with brain vascular burden using the Fazekas scale assessed in a logistic regression analysis, and the volume of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) assessed in a multiple linear regression analysis. We also explored the associations of macular VD with hippocampal volume, ventricle volume and Alzheimer disease cortical signature (ADCS) thickness assessed in multiple linear regression analyses. All analyses were adjusted for age, sex, syndromic diagnosis and cardiovascular variables. RESULTS The study cohort comprised 188 participants: 89 with subjective cognitive decline and 99 with mild cognitive impairment. No significant association of regional macular VD with the Fazekas categories (all, p > 0.111) and WMH volume (all, p > 0.051) were detected. VD in the nasal quadrant was associated to hippocampal volume (p = 0.007), but no other associations of macular VD with brain atrophy measures were detected (all, p > 0.05). DISCUSSION Retinal vascular measures were not a proxy of cerebrovascular damage in non-demented individuals, while VD in the nasal quadrant was associated with hippocampal atrophy independently of the amyloid status.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aims of this study were to analyze prevalence and severity of vascular risk factors in older patients referred to our clinic due to onset of Very Late-Onset Schizophrenia-Like Psychosis (VLOSLP) and to create a specific phenotype based on pathophysiological insight rather than age of onset. METHODS In a longitudinal study, 103 (M = 39, F = 64; mean age of 80.32 ± 7.65 years) patients were evaluated with cognitive, neuropsychiatric, and functional assessment scales. Blood concentration of hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), platelets, total protein test (TPT), creatinine, azotemia, glycemia, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), uric acid (UA), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chlorine (Cl), calcium (Ca), folate, vitamin B12 (Vit-B12), and homocysteine were measured. Presence/absence of tobacco use, alcohol consumption, psychoactive substance use, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and history of vascular disease were collected. RESULTS Females were more apathetic than males (NPI-Apathy: p = 0.040). Males had a significantly higher level of Hb (p = 0.019) and UA (p = 0.001), and a lower level of platelets (p = 0.004) and Ca (p = 0.003), and used more tobacco (p = 0.046) and alcohol (p = 0.024) than females. Comparing patients < 80 and ≥80 years, we found differences in frequency of vascular risk factors among men (p = 0.027). In total, 102 patients were treated for psychosis (59.16% of them were using atypical antipsychotics). CONCLUSIONS The results of this study could be useful for a progressive demonstration of the causal relationship between cardiac and cerebral vascular events and VLOSLP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Many magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have showed significant structural abnormalities of the corpus callosum (CC) and dysregulated interhemispheric functional connectivity (FC) in schizophrenia. Although the hemispheres are mainly linked through CC, few studies directly examined the relationship between aberrant interhemispheric FC and the white matter deficits of the CC in schizophrenia. METHODS One hundred and sixty-nine antipsychotic-naive first-episode schizophrenia patients (AN-FES) and 214 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Diffusional and functional MRI data were obtained for each participant, and fractional anisotropy (FA) values of the five CC subregions and interhemispheric FC for each participant were acquired. Between-group differences in these metrics were compared using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). Moreover, sparse canonical correlation analysis (sCCA) was conducted to explore correlations of fibers integrity of the CC subregions with dysregulated interhemispheric FC in patients. RESULTS Compared with HCs, the patients with schizophrenia showed significantly reduced FA values of the CC subregions and dysregulated connectivity between two cerebral hemispheres. The canonical correlation coefficients identified five significant sCCA modes between FA and FC (r > 0.75, p < 0.001), suggesting strong relationships between FA values of the CC subregions and interhemispheric FC in patients. CONCLUSION Our findings support a key role of CC in maintaining ongoing functional communication between two cerebral hemispheres, and suggest that microstructural changes of white matter fibers crossing different CC subregions may affect special interhemispheric FC in schizophrenia.

Abstract
We performed a series of random-effects meta-analyses on cross-sectional studies assessing vessel density (VD) using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) in schizophrenia. Five studies with a total sample size of 410 (schizophrenia-192;healthy-218) were analysed. Supplementary Trial Sequential Analyses (TSA) was also performed. Meta-analyses revealed significantly lower VD in schizophrenia patients compared to healthy controls in the peripapillary region of the optic disc, including both superior hemisphere and inferior hemisphere. TSA validated these significant effects. We conclude that reduced VD at the peripapillary region of the optic disc as measured by OCTA may have the potential to be a schizophrenia biomarker.
