[MR-Guided Targeted Prostate Biopsy from Radiologists' Perspective]

The prostate cancer diagnosis has traditionally been based on a systematic biopsy method in which tissue samples are randomly obtained from the prostate 10-12 sites. However, there are concerns as the method can fail to diagnose all prostate cancers or lead to over-detection of clinically insignificant cancers. MRI-guided prostate targeted biopsy has been proposed to address these shortcomings. This method involves identifying suspicious lesions using MRI and performing targeted biopsies under ultrasound or MRI guidance. We review the methods of MRI-based targeted biopsy and discuss recent guidelines and trends in prostate cancer diagnosis.

Fluorescent Organic Small Molecule Probes for Bioimaging and Detection Applications

The activity levels of key substances (metal ions, reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen, biological small molecules, etc.) in organisms are closely related to intracellular redox reactions, disease occurrence and treatment, as well as drug absorption and distribution. Fluorescence imaging technology provides a visual tool for medicine, showing great potential in the fields of molecular biology, cellular immunology and oncology. In recent years, organic fluorescent probes have attracted much attention in the bioanalytical field. Among various organic fluorescent probes, fluorescent organic small molecule probes (FOSMPs) have become a research hotspot due to their excellent physicochemical properties, such as good photostability, high spatial and temporal resolution, as well as excellent biocompatibility. FOSMPs have proved to be suitable for in vivo bioimaging and detection. On the basis of the introduction of several primary fluorescence mechanisms, the latest progress of FOSMPs in the applications of bioimaging and detection is comprehensively reviewed. Following this, the preparation and application of fluorescent organic nanoparticles (FONPs) that are designed with FOSMPs as fluorophores are overviewed. Additionally, the prospects of FOSMPs in bioimaging and detection are discussed.

The role of MRI in prostate cancer: current and future directions

There has been an increasing role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the management of prostate cancer. MRI already plays an essential role in the detection and staging, with the introduction of functional MRI sequences. Recent advancements in radiomics and artificial intelligence are being tested to potentially improve detection, assessment of aggressiveness, and provide usefulness as a prognostic marker. MRI can improve pretreatment risk stratification and therefore selection of and follow-up of patients for active surveillance. MRI can also assist in guiding targeted biopsy, treatment planning and follow-up after treatment to assess local recurrence. MRI has gained importance in the evaluation of metastatic disease with emerging technology including whole-body MRI and integrated positron emission tomography/MRI, allowing for not only better detection but also quantification. The main goal of this article is to review the most recent advances on MRI in prostate cancer and provide insights into its potential clinical roles from the radiologist's perspective. In each of the sections, specific roles of MRI tailored to each clinical setting are discussed along with its strengths and weakness including already established material related to MRI and the introduction of recent advancements on MRI.

Polygenic risk score in prostate cancer

PURPOSE OF REVIEW

This study was conducted in order to review the outcomes regarding polygenic risk score (PRS) in prediction of prostate cancer (PCa). With the increasing proficiency of genetic analysis, assessment of PRS for prediction of PCa has been performed in numerous studies. Genetic risk prediction models for PCa that include hundreds to thousands of independent risk-associated variants are under development. For estimation of additive effect of multiple variants, the number of risk alleles carried by an individual is summed, and each variant is weighted according to its estimated effect size for generation of a PRS.

RECENT FINDINGS

Currently, regarding the accuracy of PRS alone, PCa detection rate ranged from 0.56 to 0.67. A higher rate of accuracy of 0.866-0.880 was observed for other models combining PRS with established clinical markers. The results of PRS from Asian populations showed a level of accuracy that is somewhat low compared with values from Western populations (0.63-0.67); however, recent results from Asian cohorts were similar to that of Western counterparts. Here, we review current PRS literature and examine the clinical utility of PRS for prediction of PCa.

SUMMARY

Emerging data from several studies regarding PRS in PCa could be the solution to adding predictive value to PCa risk estimation. Although commercial markers are available, development of a large-scale, well validated PRS model should be undertaken in the near future, in order to translate hypothetical scenarios to actual clinical practice.

Electrotactile Perception Properties and Its Applications: A Review

With the increased demands of human-machine interaction, haptic feedback is becoming increasingly critical. However, the high cost, large size and low efficiency of current haptic systems severely hinder further development. As a portable and efficient technology, cutaneous electrotactile stimulation has shown promising potential for these issues. This paper presents a review on and insight into cutaneous electrotactile perception and its applications. Research results on perceptual properties and evaluation methods have been summarized and discussed to understand the effects of electrotactile stimulation on humans. Electrotactile applications are presented in categories to understand the methods and progress in various fields such as prostheses control, sensory substitution, sensory restoration and sensorimotor restoration. State of the art has demonstrated the superiority of electrotactile feedback, its efficiency and its flexibility. However, the complex factors and the limitations of evaluation methods made it challenging for precise electrotactile control. Groundbreaking innovation in electrotactile theory is expected to overcome challenges such as precise perception control, information capacity increasing, comprehension burden reducing and implementation costs.

Neurovascular bundle preservation in robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy: How I do it after 15.000 cases

Despite the neuroanatomy knowledge of the prostate described initially in the 1980's and the robotic surgery advantages in terms of operative view magnification, potency outcomes following robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy still challenge surgeons and patients due to its multifactorial etiology. Recent studies performed in our center have described that, in addition to the surgical technique, some important factors are associated with erectile dysfunction (ED) following robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). These include preoperative Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) score, age, preoperative Gleason score, and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). After performing 15,000 cases, in this article we described our current Robotic-assisted Radical Prostatectomy technique with details and considerations regarding the optimal approach to neurovascular bundle preservation.
