Abstract
The inhibitory potential of an alcoholic extract derived from Canarium strictum leaves (CSL) was evaluated as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel (MS) in 15% HCl solution. Furthermore, to enhance its inhibition effectiveness, the influence of potassium iodide (KI) was also examined. The corrosion inhibition and adsorption characteristics of CSL were comprehensively analysed through weight loss measurement, electrochemical impedance measurement (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PP), UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The effect of temperature and immersion time on corrosion inhibition was also investigated. The studied CSL extract exhibited maximum inhibition efficiency of 92.2% at 700 ppm alone, while adding 5 ppm KI 96.8% inhibition efficiency was observed. Moreover, with KI, an efficiency of 98% was observed at extended immersion of 48 h. The PP results showed that CSL and CSL + KI were good mixed-type inhibitor system. Adsorption data was best fitted to the Langmuir isotherm model, and thermodynamic, kinetic, and surface analyses shed light on the inhibitory mechanism.

Abstract
Bishydrazone ligand, 2,2'-thiobis(N'-((E)-thiophen-2-ylmethylene) acetohydrazide), H2TTAH and its Zn- complex were prepared and characterized through elemental analysis and various spectroscopic performances as well as (IR, 1H and 13C NMR, mass and (UV-Vis) measurements. The synthesized complex exhibited the molecular formula [Zn2(H2TTAH)(OH)4(C5H5N)3C2H5OH] (Zn-H2TTAH). To assess their potential as anti-corrosion materials, the synthesized particles were assessed for their effectiveness for API 5L X70 C-steel corrosion in a 3.5% NaCl solution using electrochemical methods such as potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Additionally, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was employed to examine the steel surface treated with the tested inhibitors, confirming the establishment of an adsorbed protecting layer. The results obtained from the PP plots indicated that both H2TTAH and Zn-H2TTAH act as mixed-type inhibitors. At a maximum concentration of 1 × 10-4 M, H2TTAH and Zn-H2TTAH exhibited inhibition efficiencies of 93.4% and 96.1%, respectively. The adsorption of these inhibitors on the steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and it was determined to be chemisorption. DFT calculations were achieved to regulate the electron donation ability of H2TTAH and Zn-H2TTAH molecules. Additionally, Monte Carlo (MC) simulations were conducted to validate the adsorption configurations on the steel surface and gain insight into the corrosion inhibition mechanism facilitated by these molecules.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Corrosion-induced deterioration of infrastructure is a growing global concern. The development and application of corrosion inhibitors are one of the most effective approaches to protect steel rebar from corrosion. Hence, this study focuses on a novel hydrazone derivative, (E)-N'-(4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene)-2-(5-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)aceto-hydrazide (HIND), and its potential application to mitigate corrosion in steel rebar exposed to chloride-contaminated concrete pore solutions (ClSCPS). OBJECTIVES The research aims to evaluate the anti-corrosion capabilities of HIND on steel rebar within a simulated corrosive environment, focusing on the mechanisms of its inhibitory effect. METHODS The corrosion of steel rebar exposed to the ClSCPS was studied through weight loss and electrochemical methods. The surface morphology of steel rebar surface was characterized by FE-SEM-EDS, AFM; oxidation states of the steel rebar and crystal structures were examined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. Further, experimental findings were complemented by theoretical studies using self-consistent-charge density-functional tight-binding (SCC-DFTB) simulations. The performance of HIND was monitored at an optimal concentration over a period of 30 days. RESULTS The results indicated a significant reduction in steel rebar corrosion upon introducing HIND. The inhibitor molecules adhered to the steel surface, preventing further deterioration and achieving an inhibition efficiency of 88.4% at 0.5 mmol/L concentration. The surface morphology analysis confirmed the positive effect of HIND on the rebar surface, showing a decrease in the surface roughness of the steel rebar from 183.5 in uninhibited to 50 nm in inhibited solutions. Furthermore, SCC-DFTB simulations revealed the presence of coordination between iron atoms and HIND active sites. CONCLUSION The findings demonstrate the potential of HIND as an effective anti-corrosion agent in chloride-contaminated environments. Its primary adsorption mechanism involves charge transfer from the inhibitor molecules to iron atoms. Therefore, applying HIND could be an effective strategy to address corrosion-related challenges in reinforced infrastructure.

Abstract
The pumpkin leaf was extracted by the decoction method, and it was used as an eco-friendly, nontoxic inhibitor of copper in 0.5 M H2SO4 corrosion media. To evaluate the composition and protective capacity of the pumpkin leaf extract, Fourier infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical testing, XPS, AFM, and SEM were employed. The results showed that the pumpkin leaf extract (PLE) is an effective cathode corrosion inhibitor, exhibiting exceptional protection for copper within a specific temperature range. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of the PLE against copper reached 89.98% when the concentration of the PLE reached 800 mg/L. Furthermore, when the temperature and soaking time increased, the corrosion protection efficiency of 800 mg/L PLE on copper consistently remained above 85%. Analysis of the morphology also indicated that the PLE possesses equally effective protection for copper at different temperatures. Furthermore, XPS analysis reveals that the PLE molecules are indeed adsorbed to form an adsorption film, which is consistent with Langmuir monolayer adsorption. Molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations were conducted on the main components of the PLE.

Abstract
Canavalia gladiata leaf extract (CGLE) is extracted from crop waste employing a water decoction method. By employing electrochemical techniques, morphology analysis, quantum chemical calculations, and other methods, we extensively investigated the anticorrosion efficacy of CGLE on copper within a H2SO4 solution. The outcomes reveal that at 298 K, a CGLE concentration of 800 mg/L attains a remarkable inhibition efficiency (IE) of 96.8%. Additionally, we examined the impact of CGLE on the corrosion resistance of copper at varying temperatures. Even with rising temperatures, CGLE manages to sustain an IE of over 95%. This indicates that CGLE is mainly chemisorption based on the copper, leading to a strong adsorption. The surface test results show a noteworthy decrease in the extent of copper surface corrosion upon the introduction of CGLE. The study of the adsorption model demonstrates the alignment of CGLE adsorption onto the copper with the Langmuir adsorption.

Abstract
Finding new cost-effective and environmentally friendly anti-corrosion materials is a never-ending task. The present study is to prepare a new formulation based on chitosan derivatives with different degrees of substitution (chitosan-5-HMF) as an efficient green corrosion inhibitor to protect mild steel against corrosion in 1 M HCl. The inhibition performance of chitosan-5-HMF was determined by electrochemical tests coupled with theoretical study like as molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to assess the reactivity and adsorption mechanisms between chitosan-5-HMF and Fe. The obtained results revealed that chitosan-5-HMF3 performs excellently inhibition performance where its inhibition efficiency reached 97.01% at 200 mg/L, and it acted as an anode-based mixed inhibitor. SEM and contact angle analysis showed the formation of compact chitosan-5-HMF film on the steel surface. Molecular dynamic simulations also manifested that chitosan-5-HMF was absorbed more strongly on the metal surface in a parallel mode.

Abstract
The acid treatment process of production wells is one of the most acid-induced corrosive processes. Corrosion inhibitors are an effective tool to inhibit the acids employed in acidizing treatments. Herein, new eco-friendly hydrazone-based compounds, namely, 2-(4-isobutylphenyl)-N-((1E,2E)-3-phenylallylidene) propanehydrazide (IPP) and N'-cyclohexylidene-2-[4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl] propanehydrazide (CIP), were prepared through the functionalization of ibuprofen (IBF) and applied for corrosion mitigation of N80 steel in 15 wt % HCl (referred to hereafter as blank). The anticorrosion performance of selected compounds was investigated by employing weight loss (WL), potentiodynamic polarization curves (PPCs), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), complemented by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses. In addition, density functional theory-based tight-binding (DFTB) modeling was conducted to get molecular-level insights into inhibitor-metal bonding. Experimental results revealed excellent long-term corrosion inhibition efficiency at very low concentrations of inhibitors and a mixed-type inhibition process. Numerically, N80 steel polarization resistance increased from 5.51 Ω cm2 in blank to 608.4 and 396 Ω cm2 in blank inhibited with 5 × 10-3 mol/L of IPP and CIP, respectively, equivalent to 99% and 98% inhibition efficiency based on EIS experiments. Besides, SEM and AFM images showed that, after addition to 15 wt % HCl, inhibitors could effectively prevent the acid attack on the N80 steel surface. The fitting of experimental data to adsorption isotherms indicated that inhibitors' adsorption followed the Langmuir isotherm model and mixed physicochemical adsorption on the metal surface. The DFTB simulation revealed that inhibitor molecules can create covalent and physical interactions with iron atoms, which is further confirmed by partial density of states (PDOSs) analysis.

Abstract
In this research paper, aromatic sulfonamide-derived ethyl ester (p-TSAE) and its acyl hydrazide (p-TSAH) were directly synthesized, characterized, and employed for the first time as prospective anticorrosive agents to protect mild steel in 1.0 M HCl conditions. The corrosion efficiency was probed by electrochemical methods including polarization, impedance, and frequency modulation measurements. Optimal efficiencies of 94% and 92% were detected for the hydrazide and ester, respectively, revealing excellent corrosion inhibition. Moreover, both the hydrazide and ester molecules combat the cathodic and anodic reactions correspondingly in a mixed-type manner. The electron transfer (ET) at the inhibitor/metal interface was evaluated using DFT at the B3LYP/6-31g(d,p) level. Natural bond orbital analysis (NBO) and frontier molecular orbital analysis (FMO) calculations showed superior capabilities of the synthesized inhibitors to easily reallocate charge into the metal surface. However, the hydrazide molecules showed slightly better inhibition efficiency than the ester due to the strong interaction between the lone pairs of the nitrogen atoms and the d-orbitals of the metal. The chemical hardness of the hydrazide and ester are 2.507 and 2.511 eV, respectively, in good accordance with the recorded electrochemical inhibition efficiencies for both molecules. Good and straightforward correlations between the experiments and calculations are obtained.

Abstract
There is a high demand for eco-friendly, effective, and high-performance corrosion inhibitors for industrial applications. Thus, the corrosion property of aluminum alloys was studied in essential oil-containing sodium chloride solution at various concentrations. Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), surface tests, and weight loss analysis were used to study the corrosion inhibition mechanism of the essential oil. The essential oil showed the highest inhibition efficiency of 97.01% at 1000 ppm. A high efficiency of 96.03% was achieved even after 168 h of exposure. The potentiodynamic polarization test showed that the essential oil is a mixed-type inhibitor. EIS results show better adsorption of the oil on the surface of the aluminum at increased inhibitor concentrations. The Langmuir's adsorption isotherm model was found to describe the adsorption behavior. The surface morphology of the uninhibited and inhibited specimens examined by a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscope confirmed the protective film of the inhibitor molecules on the aluminum surface.

Abstract
2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-dithiane (DDD) and 2,5-dimethy- [1.4] dithiane-2,5-diol (DTDD) two food flavors as environmentally-friendly inhibitors for Cu in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 media were researched via theoretical calculation and experimental ways. Electrochemical measurement data showed that DDD and DTDD can exhibit high level anti-corrosion feature. The anti-corrosion efficiency of DDD and DTDD were as high as 99.6% and 98.9%, respectively. The atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) tests showed that the Cu specimens were immersed in the H2SO4 with 5 mM DDD and DTDD for 30 h at the 298 K, and the Cu specimen surface was still smooth. Besides, the adsorption of DDD and DTDD at the interface of Cu/solution was comply with Langmuir adsorption. Theoretical calculation data showed that DDD exhibit more ascendant anti-corrosion feature than DTDD.

Abstract
To reduce the cost of synthetic organic corrosion inhibitors in corrosion protection, dye wastewater exhibiting a synergistic effect is used with organic corrosion inhibitors to reduce the amount of high-cost molecules. The corrosion inhibition effects of the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and the anionic dye methyl orange (MO) are tested. The test methods include electrochemical methods, weight-loss tests, and so on. MB exhibits better performance on the tested steel, with the anticorrosion efficiency reaching as high as 75.40%, which is chosen as an additive for organic corrosion inhibitors. After that, an organic inhibitor decamethylene bis-pyridinium dibromide (DBP) is selected for compounding with MB, and the corrosion inhibition effect under different ratios is tested. Similar effects of the compound inhibitor to the pristine sample are obtained at a ratio of MB/DBP = 6:4. In addition to experiments, theoretical calculations have also confirmed that the addition of dye molecules can inhibit corrosion. This research not only provides a way to reuse dye wastewater but also proposes measures to reduce the cost of organic corrosion inhibitors and, at the same time, provides new ideas for environmental protection and metal protection.

Impediment of Iron Corrosion by N,N′-Bis[2-hydroxynaphthylidene]amino]oxamide in 3.5% NaCl Solution. CRYSTALS 2021. Abstract
Hydrazone [N,N′-bis[2-hydroxynaphthylidene]amino]oxamide] derived from the condensation of ethanedihydrazide with 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde was synthesized and assessed on the basis of elemental analysis (CHN) and spectral (IR, mass, 13C/1H NMR and UV-Vis) measurements. The influence of N,N-bis([2-hydroxynaphthylidene]amino)oxamide (HAO) in terms of the inhibition of iron corrosion in concentrated sodium chloride solution (3.5 wt.% NaCl) after various exposure periods was assessed. Numerous electrochemical and spectroscopic assessment techniques were performed. Cyclic potentiodynamic polarization experiments indicated that the presence of HAO and its increased concentration decreased the corrosion of iron in NaCl solution by decreasing the corrosion values, anodic and cathodic currents, and corrosion rate. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results showed that HAO molecules greatly increased the corrosion resistance. The chronoamperometric experiments performed at −475 mV (Ag/AgCl) revealed that the HAO molecules decreased the absolute currents and reduced the probability of the occurrence of pitting corrosion. The effect of HAO on the inhibition of iron corrosion was also confirmed through scanning electron microscopy micrographs and energy-dispersive X-ray profile analyses, which proved that the surface of the iron sample exposed to chloride solution alone was pitted, while the presence of HAO molecules reduced the severity of the pitting corrosion. The results confirmed that the presence of HAO molecules inhibits the corrosion of iron and this impact increased when the exposure time was increased to 48 h.

Abstract
Molecular modelling of organic compounds using computational software has emerged as a powerful approach for theoretical determination of the corrosion inhibition potential of organic compounds. Some of the common techniques involved in the theoretical studies of corrosion inhibition potential and mechanisms include density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, and artificial neural network (ANN) and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling. Using computational modelling, the chemical reactivity and corrosion inhibition activities of organic compounds can be explained. The modelling can be regarded as a time-saving and eco-friendly approach for screening organic compounds for corrosion inhibition potential before their wet laboratory synthesis would be carried out. Another advantage of computational modelling is that molecular sites responsible for interactions with metallic surfaces (active sites or adsorption sites) and the orientation of organic compounds can be easily predicted. Using different theoretical descriptors/parameters, the inhibition effectiveness and nature of the metal-inhibitor interactions can also be predicted. The present review article is a collection of major advancements in the field of computational modelling for the design and testing of the corrosion inhibition effectiveness of organic corrosion inhibitors.

Abstract
The inhibition effect of N,N'-phosphonomethylglycine (PMG) and vinyl phosphonic acid (VPA) on the 3% NaCl acidic solution corrosion of carbon steel iron was studied at different immersion times by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, and computational methods. It is found from the polarization studies that PMG and VPA behave as mixed-type inhibitors in NaCl. Values of charge transfer resistance (Rct) and double layer capacitance (Cdl) in the absence and presence of inhibitors are determined. The PMG and VPA inhibitors were capable of inhibiting the corrosion process up to ≈91% and ≈85%, respectively. In the presence of PMG, the synergic effect of chlorine ions was observed. Density functional theory (DFT) was engaged to establish the adsorption site of PMG, VPA, and their deprotonated states. For studied compounds, the resulted values of ELUMO, EHOMO, energy gap (∆E), dipole moment (μ), electronic hardness (η), global softness (σ), electrophilic index (ω), and the electronic potential map are in concordance with the experimental data results regarding their corrosion inhibition behavior and adsorption on the metal surface.

Abstract
There has been substantial research undertaken on the role of green synthesized corrosion inhibitors as a substantial approach to inhibit the corrosion of metals and their alloys in acidic environments. Herein, electrochemical studies, surface characterization, and theoretical modeling were adopted to investigate the corrosion inhibition proprieties of novel synthesized quinoxaline derivatives bearing 8-Hydroxyquinoline, namely 1-((8-hydroxyquinolin-5-yl) methyl)-3,6-dimethylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one (Q1) and 1-((8-hydroxyquinolin-5-yl)methyl) quinoxalin-2(1H)-one (Q2) on mild steel corrosion in 1 mol/L HCl solution. The principal finding of this research was that both inhibitors acted as good corrosion inhibitors with Q1 having the highest performance (96% at 5 × 10−3 mol/L). Electrochemical results obtained via potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques demonstrated that quinoxaline compounds belonged to mixed-type inhibitors; their presence significantly increased the polarization resistance, preventing simultaneously anodic and cathodic reactions. Further, experimental results provided preliminary insights about the interactions mode between studied molecules and the mild steel surface, which followed the Langmuir adsorption model, and physical and chemical interactions assisted their inhibition mechanism. Besides, SEM analyses confirmed the existence of protective film on the metal surface after the addition of 5 × 10−3 mol/L of quinoxalines. In addition, the temperature and immersion time effects on inhibition performances of quinoxalines were investigated to evaluate their performances in different operating conditions. Besides, Density Functional Theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were carried out to explore the most reactive sites of quinoxaline inhibitors and their interaction mechanism. Theoretical results revealed that the inhibitor molecule with additional electron-donating functional group strongly interacted with the steel surface.

Abstract
The corrosion-inhibiting performance of (E)-N’-(4-bromobenzylidene)-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanehydrazide (BPH) and (E)-N’-(4-(dimethylamino) benzylidene)-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanehydrazide (MPH) for mild steel (MS) in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using electrochemical methods, weight loss measurements, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDX) analysis. Raising the concentration of both inhibitors towards an optimal value of 5 × 10−3 M reduced the corrosion current density (icorr) and the corrosion rate of mild steel. The inhibitory effect of MPH, which showed the highest inhibition efficiency, was explored under a range of temperatures between 303 and 333 K. The inhibitory performance of both compounds significantly improved when the inhibitor concentration increased. The main result that flowed from potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) tests was that both compounds acted as mixed-type inhibitors, with a predominance cathodic effect. The adsorption of both compounds follows the Langmuir isotherm. SEM/EDX confirmed the excellent inhibition performance of tested compounds.

Abstract
In the present study, the inhibition performance of two synthesized hydrazone derivatives (HDZs), namely, (E)-N′-(2,4-dimethoxybenzylidene)-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanehydrazide (HYD-1) and N′-cyclohexylidene-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanehydrazide (HYD-2) on mild steel (MS) in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using weight loss measurements, electrochemical techniques, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The experimental data suggested that the hydrazone derivatives exhibited a high inhibition performance, which increases with increasing their concentrations. HYD-1 and HYD-2 presented maximum inhibition efficiencies of 96% and 84%, respectively, at an optimal concentration of 5 × 10–3 M. The principal observations that resulted from electrochemical studies are that HYDs affected both anodic and cathodic reactions (mixed inhibitors). Their adsorption, which is a combination of chemisorption and physisorption, obeyed the Langmuir isotherm model. Furthermore, the temperature effect was carried out at various temperatures ranging from 303 to 333 K to verify the corrosion inhibition performance of HYD-1 at higher temperatures. Moreover, SEM-EDX analysis confirmed that HYDs can ensure remarkable prevention against corrosion through the adsorption onto the metal surface.
